Fully expecting my DD to come home saying "nothing" or "I can't remember", she has actually reported back on her first two days:

DAY 1
She had assembly. She had to sit crossed-legged. The bigger children clapped in time with the piano and sang a song.
She had to sit on the carpet.
She didn't get to play with the bead toy even though she wanted to, because it was tidy-up time.
She sat next to Rebecca.
They explained about a bell, but she doesn't know when it rings or why.

DAY 2
They explained again about the bell, but she still doesn't know when it rings or why.
They didn't have assembly.
She drew a picture of herself, including a nose.
They all sang "heads, shoulders, knees and toes", and then did it fast.
Rebecca cried but she didn't know why.
They had playtime for the first time and she rode around on a mini trike, which was brilliant.
No one played on the pirate ship.
She had some milk, which means she will grow up big and strong.

Anyone else had a report back?!

Hooray! My DS1 who went through the whole of nursery saying he didn't do anything or play with anyone had been miraculously transformed!! I got a feast of information about his first day today:

He didn't have assembly or PE. He played in the garden several times and kept going outdoors. He had to put waterproofs on to play in the mud. At lunchtime Mrs C put his lunchbox on a table for him and he ate it all up. He ate lunch in the hall. He played with L at lunchtime on the field and did a "course" (adventure type thing I think.) He got a sticker for tidying up. Mrs C read them Harry and his bucketful of dinosaurs and then they went home. :-)

DD1 (and the only) started part-time today. I asked her whether she liked it and what did she do.

'I got a sticker because I did this [clapping hands] and a boy got two stickers because he put his hands up. I ate an apple and met a boy from my nursery and I played with him outside. We went to the big children class and they said hello to us. I lost my cardigan and they didn't find it. I met Mrs Woods who is a "ssistant". The big girls were wearing red dressesm, I don't have a red dress.'

'Did you make any friends?' I asked her, to which she replies: 'yes, three girls and four boys'. (there were only 6 children in class today, they stagger reception intake).

Me: 'Really, tell me their names'. 'Her name is Luna.' And the others? 'I can't remember'.

-Went across the monkey bars swinging
-Ate pizza and broccoli, and got a sticker for eating most of my lunch
-played with, um, um, um [cue me saying 'X?'], x.
-sang 2 songs
-heard the bear hunt story.

"It too SO LONG for it to get September, I waited to go to school for SO LONG".

HipHopOpotomus · 11/09/2012 09:05

Did some Maths.
Tried to shake off clingy friend from nursery "I do like to play with X, but not all day. When I try to make new friends she follows me and interrupts".
Went to After School Club for the first time - "We had a snack of noodles"

Alarmed at lack of stickers at DD's school Grin

GoldenPeppermintCreams · 11/09/2012 09:43

First day yesterday!

He had an apple for snack. He played in the garden. They sang 10 fat sausages, and 5 little speckled frogs. His teacher got married over the summer and now has a new name - Mrs BATMAN. Hmm The boys toilets are one side, and the girls toilets are on the other side. The toilets have a hand dryer!!! He was only third in the queue coming out to go home, because child 1 and child 2 were the helpers and got to go first. Grin The helpers got to take the register somewhere, but he doesn't know where. He hopes he'll be helper soon.

sheeplikessleep · 11/09/2012 10:12

DS1 started yesterday.
Snippets of information we got ...

He played with "everyone but doesn't know their names"
His teacher told him "everything"
Got to eat your sandwiches first
He got a sticker for tidying up
He did no reading or writing
He knows where the boys toilets are

Made a best friend already, but, to be honest this doesn't surprise me. She makes a new best friend every time she meets a child in our bookshop.

Did a poo, (bit of interrogation required on my part here,) because she claimed to be feeling sick, so I needed to know if she'd washed her hands and whether the poo was before or after she ate her packed lunch! But it seemed the sore tummy/sickness was a ruse to get out of eating supper, because it mysteriously vanished when supper was over and the children were allowed to run around in the sunshine.

Read books on her own in the home corner. I'm finding this a bit of a struggle, she can read, after a fashion, (unless it's Dr Seuss, and then she can read it really well,) but she claims to have been reading books completely and on her own? Can't make head nor tail of that one, so I say yes dear, at the moment and move on.

Did letter sounds from the letter sounds book, today was the letter s. Did you do any other letters or sounds? No, just the letter s. mmm, OK.

Played in the Wendy House and in the adventure playground which we have to drive to, (at school?) No, you drive us to it. Hmmm.

DS:

'We had chocolate cake for X's birthday'

GwendolineMaryLacey · 11/09/2012 20:34

Slight tangent but we were told last night at a parents evening that no cake or sweets are to be brought in for birthdays. The only treat allowed is raisins Hmm

feelingfull · 11/09/2012 21:05

DD learnt that if you wanted to talk when it wasn't playtime that you should put your hand up.

She played in the garden, had stories, everyone dressed up as fairies even the boys.
Ate 2 sweets apples.
Sang some songs and then had to go home.
And then asked why she was going home early (very short days at the moment).

darksideofthemooncup · 11/09/2012 23:20

An update today. My Dd had her first school dinner - Hamburger, Chips and cauliflower and declared it DELICIOUS. School is still BORING and RUBBISH though apparently. (oh and I got told off by the lollipop lady today for crossing at the wrong place Blush)

nuks · 12/09/2012 17:09

day three:

she lost her bookbag and cardigan (with labels on them). bookbag was picked up by another child, cardigan was left in some other class they were visiting and it's not in the lost box yet.

  • so what did you do today?'
  • 'i showed the new children around and made a white banana cake'.
  • 'any new friends?'
  • 'yes, five of them. Anna and James.'

oh, and she's now realized that she can't play whenever she wants, at school. and no running around and shouting in class. she wasn't very excited about that :)

indiechick · 13/09/2012 11:35

She told the headmistress in no uncertain terms that she didn't need her hand held and she can walk to the classroom on her own. Am now mortified!

Mercedes519 · 16/09/2012 20:34

I'm just been reminded...from DS in Reception.

"We had white broccoli today mummy"

It took me ages...Grin

simpson · 16/09/2012 20:59

DD had her first day on Friday...

She got a sticker for "making the right choices" but did not know what the right choices were Grin

Went outside to play but cried because she did not get to play on the bike as her best friend was on it...

Sang some songs but could not remember what they were!!

Learnt to sit in a big circle and they all had to hold hands...

Had a story read to her by a teacher (but could not remember which story or which teacher - she is in a class of 90 with 3 teachers and 3 TAs).

feelingfull · 17/09/2012 21:56

DD was asked to ring the bell at the end of lunchtime play today (it was their first lunchtime playtime today). I was so proud Grin

skyebluesapphire · 18/09/2012 00:30

Today DD was hit in the head by a wheelbarrow which is naughty because wheelbarrows must stay on the ground and she doesn't like M any more and E is now her best friend instead because she got hit on the head as well and Mrs Teacher was very cross with M.

Then we went to the museum (library) and mrs library teacher called S read a story about a big fat rabbit. Then we all had to hold hands and walk back to school and then it was pants again.

darksideofthemooncup · 18/09/2012 00:46

Yet another update: My Dd threw up all over the playground today as she had wound herself up so much about going in. Thing is she LOVES it once she is there but dreads going in. I was mortified and felt like the worst mother in the world leaving her there Sad
