Feeling more nervous than DS2!

He's 'borderline', particularly in Literacy. He'll be so happy if he gets a 4 (as will I!) so off he went just now with me offering my last minute bon mots ('Read carefully! Most of the answers are in the text! If it doesn't make sense, you've not read it properly' etc).

They must be internally marked ones, then, they are from previous years SATs papers. We have done both as practice earlier this month.

HauntedLittleLunatic · 15/05/2012 16:01

Ours have spent the last week or so writing talent show reports...could they have done that bit already if they are being internally marked? They did something last thurs but I thought that was just the spelling test. Or could they have done the talent show bit last week?

robotcornysilk · 15/05/2012 16:02

so are the hot air balloon and the talent show internal or external ?Confused

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 15/05/2012 16:04

Our school did the descriptive birdspotting descriptive piece for the short writing and the persuasive letter about a celebrity visiting the school. For external marking. Definitely a 2012 paper. And Atlantis for spelling.

bigTillyMint · 15/05/2012 16:09

I think the hot air ballon is internal as AFAIK DS's teacher is marking DS's - at least she can read his writingWink

Haunted, sounds like either they were practising for the test or did it early.

Bizzey, for the writing the schools can mark them internally and do them anytime over this term, I think. Feenie has the info.

member · 15/05/2012 16:20

Well, our school did reading, short writing & spelling yesterday. Short writing was about a talent show in is being marked internally. Today they did long writing, again marked internally & hot air ballooning was the subject(didn't get much more than that for today's except that it was "boring")

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 15/05/2012 16:20

Mutt, they must be marking them internally then, or maybe paying an outside agency to mark them for the school. Our school does that for the optional SATs in the lower years. The statutory timetable for the official externally marked writing papers was for today.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 15/05/2012 16:22

Official timetable, see page 15

Floggingmolly · 15/05/2012 16:23

ampere. Ours were the same as yours, and they're definitely being marked externally. How odd...

littlelegsmum · 15/05/2012 16:24

How do all you lovely parent know who's marking the papers what pieces the children have wrote about etc.

I don't know anything and dd was only interested in playing out when we got home!! Confused

I think the externally marked ones are the persuasive letter and the descriptive 'Bird Spotting' and the internally (or private agency) marked ones are the hot air balloon and talent show.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 15/05/2012 16:27

All the reading comprehension and maths tests will be marked externally.

HauntedLittleLunatic · 15/05/2012 16:28

Our school told us that the writing was being marked internally.

Everything else has to be marked externally.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 15/05/2012 16:31

Some schools have chosen to have their writing papers marked externally, or have been chosen as a sample to have their writing papers marked externally. All others mark their writing papers only internally and can choose when to give the test, but it must be under test conditions.

This thread is fascinating! I don't agree with SATS and I would like to have been able to withdraw dd2 but I must say getting everybody else's views on the paper is good fun and useful to talk through with them. All I got yesterday was that it was about the Plague and was 'fine'. I now know that dd2 does know what italics mean. I also know that she evidently has been taught some exam techniques as she planned her way through the paper, skipping a long question when she felt she was running short of time, did the rest then went back and finished it. I don't see why she needs to know that aged 11 but at least it is a skill that will come in handy when she's older. A teacher friend told me a few years ago that she had taught a child who was terrified of getting Level 4s as he had been told he would be 'grounded'. Grounded? He was 11 - when exactly was he getting airborne? Hmm She also taught kids who came in to school telling the others about the amount of money their parents had offered for good levels. Now that's properly crazy.
