How do you feel about going into school to cover for a teacher who is on strike? Is there anyone out there who believes that this is a sound idea.... I think it's madness!!

Hmm
moondog · 26/06/2011 22:33

Ah so Interpet what you are saying is that a.) It's ok to ignore glaring errors under the guise of being supportive but that things won't improve (ie a tacit acknowledgement of how bad they are) unless middle class folk who care, send their kids to shite schools.

Fuck me.

CQrrrnee · 26/06/2011 22:33

NunSoQueer- what a ridiculous argument

moondog - what do you want to uncover about what really happens in state schools? have my own bone to pick there re: SEN.

NunSoQueer · 26/06/2011 22:34

A ridiculous argument? What argument? What is my argument?

CQrrrnee · 26/06/2011 22:35

Well said Moondog - it is about time that the stables were cleaned out in teaching - I am sick to death of hearing about how many hours they have to put in.

In a normal job, you would be hauled in and asked why you couldn't perform the job in the time allocated like everyone else. Any primary school teacher who claims that they have hours of marking is at best fibbing, and at worst failing.

NunSoQueer · 26/06/2011 22:35

Riiiiiiight Confused

moondog · 26/06/2011 22:35

A general leaning to touchy feely 'discovery learning'.

A lack of focus on core academic skills.

Ill educated peopel attempting toi educate others.

Insane' human rights' and 'H&S' issues to say nothing of discipline problems.

Bullying union officilas filloing their pockets with tax payers' money.

Don't even get me started on SEN and SN Education.

Truly terrifying.

Elibean · 26/06/2011 22:36

Besides, as my neice (now PhD - from Oxford, if that makes any difference) tells me, there is no need to worry about spelling these days as everyone uses spellcheck.

GrinShock

But I think this is more to do with technological influences than bad teaching. Much, much bigger picture - you can't use poor spelling to prove anything.

All the children at dds' school leave reading and writing. And some of them were not predicted to.

chillistars · 26/06/2011 22:36

nunsoqueer - and how about the children now who, despite being state educated and in year 1 who are now working at a level that would be acceptable at the end of year 2? Some of whom were so far behind at the start of year 1 that they had to get reading books from Reception.

moondog · 26/06/2011 22:37

God, yes, teachers bloodiy whingeing about how hard they work.
That enrages me.
Like everyone else doesn't??

(I come from a family of teachers too-nonoe of whom whinge about the job or 'conditions'.)

MsInterpret · 26/06/2011 22:37

You are completely twisting what I said moondog.

I did not make any tacit acknowledgement of how bad things are. I was referring specifically to MoreBeta's local school.

I did not say ignore 'glaring' (inflammatory language much?) errors under any guise. You obviously know nothing about the pedagogy of teaching and learning!

I made the point that some parents who profess to want to help the state sector to improve should do so by supporting the state sector by becoming involved in it.

CQrrrnee · 26/06/2011 22:37

no please start on SEN and SN education. Really do.

NunSoQueer · 26/06/2011 22:38

"Acceptable" by who's standard?

NunSoQueer · 26/06/2011 22:39

*whose! dur! Grin

moondog · 26/06/2011 22:39

'becoming involved'

I am as involved as is humanbly possible (governer, volunteer, fundraiser, cake baker blah blah blah) but short og going into the bloody classroom and taking the lesson myself, try as I might my signature dish pecan pie isn't going to raise the standards of maths.

Hmm
moondog · 26/06/2011 22:40

CQ, I can only direct you to SN threads where I am often found.

CQrrrnee · 26/06/2011 22:40

teaching for most teachers is quite enjoyable unless you are really crap at it - let'sbe honest. Especially Friday afternoon 'goLden time.' Would have loved to have taught in the 1070's though. Topic work, alpha and beta maths, write a story, read a story, rounders, umm... not a lot else went on really.

CQrrrnee · 26/06/2011 22:40

moondog me also

NunSoQueer · 26/06/2011 22:41

This strike won't achieve a thing anyway (except disrupt children's learning of course) so at least we can sleep happy in that knowledge.

MsInterpret · 26/06/2011 22:41

Great, I'm really glad you are moondog. I was referring to those who aren't.

What you are doing sounds very generous and I'm not saying everyone can do as much as you do. Your school and children are very fortunate.

CQrrrnee · 26/06/2011 22:41

sorry that's 1970's

Elibean · 26/06/2011 22:42

Striking = whingeing?

Elibean · 26/06/2011 22:43

NunSoQueer, its achieved quite a lot of MN air-time Grin

NunSoQueer · 26/06/2011 22:43

striking = self-serving
