Starting the ball rolling with my pre-teen dd 10.

Dd just turned 10 (thinks she a mini teen at times). An angel one monent and them the stoppy moody child. It's really amazing the affect of hormones can do.

My dd is 9 now, but started getting painful nipples at 8. At the same time she had a huge growth spurt, and her hip became really painful and she was off school for months.

I started a thread like lexcat did last year, becuase i was really shocked to find that dd had armpit smells and omg a few pubes.

The hormones are kicking in and it just seems to soon, so maybe we can share the fact that it does happen earlier in some kids.

From reading a few posts it also doesn't seem to have a pattern. One lady has two girls, and the older one who looks fuller figured and who is older, doesn't have the obvious hormonal changes of her 'slighter' and younger sister.

My dd even had a linea negra last year, which was very odd.

At last...... I have a teen already (almost 16) but she was a breeze!!

Have twins age 11 and hormones have been flying for about a year.

Very different though, dt1 is really tall and skinny but with hormonal rages like you wouldn't believe. She is developing but slowly (like i did) Dt2 needs a bra all the time, has lots of pubic hair and shows signs of starting periods soon.

I was 11 when I started my periods so i do expect it early with them too.

Dt1 also has growing pains in her hips and knees.

Its not really fun this growing up lark

piratecat, dt2 has had breast buds and pubic hair from the age of 9 and dt1 was 10. It does seem so young i agree, my 15 year old has a more womanly figure than me

I have a hormonal, stroppy, DD (11) here- she started going through puberty at 6 and a half- 7 years old.
Just periods to start now- she's got everything else including the womanly curves.

The hardest thing with her is the moods- we're in mood hell at the moment- so far it's lasted 2 weeks.

I have a dd1(11) & dd2(9). Dd1 heading for bra territory, nothing on dd2 yet. Dd1 is in denial totally though. Ignored sex ed at school & tells me off for being rude , gave her a book& she put it away til she's older.

Dd2 likes to talk though

Dd started with tender nipples and slight swelling when she was 8. Now she has tiny boobs but still to small for a bra (nearly their). Public hair again started coming over a year ago again not much change their. Started getting sweaty about a year ago but only had BO when she's really got hot. We went through a stage of greasy hair but a bit better now. Nearly always got a spot or two on her nose and staring to get them on her chin.

The thing that came first was a discharge now and then just before she was 8, that made me worry about periods but so far none. I myself was 13 before I had my periods.

lexcat, same with my dd and the discharge, it was really a surprise. I had to up the cleanliness, ie recently and we have been more pro active with showering and washing bits and pits.

It was weird to have to think that way, because i was still doing baths every other night as tho she was 5. Yet no, we well I have had to make a conscious effort to make sure she understands more about washing.

I bought the Bionsen deo and it's working well.

My dd, aged just 11, satrted her period on a school camping trip this week, poor girl. Handled it all herself amazingly well but v glad to get home. Any tips from anyone on period pain relief for the under-12s? Calpol is fine, but seems really weird to use in these circumstances.

I have ds who has just turned 12 and dd who is 10 (going on 14 in her mind ). dd started with the public hair a few months ago, has what seem to me to be rather fast growing breast buds and decided last weekend that she needed deodorant. She's very keen on growing up and we've had lots of chats about it all. Last weekend when we were out shopping she decided that she'd really like to get some pads, so we spent some time perusing all the different sorts you can get, and came home with five different packets and some tampons (although she said she thought the idea was horrible).

I think (hope) she has at least a year to go and my only worry right now is just that she seems in such a hurry to grow up.

I have dd2 wo is 12, she's a bit of a nightmare on legs atm and just can't seem to calm herself down and flies off the handle over nothing, hormones are definitely raging. Dd1 has thankfully grown through all this and has come out the other side a lovely young lady, it will get better . . . eventually!

Pleased to have found this topic as I wasn't sure where to post this. DD (9) has lots of hair under her arms and can't decide whether she wants to get rid of it or not yet. If she does, she doesn't like the idea of a razor. Any suggestions for a very simple method? I've always shaved my armpits and don't know what might work best for a child who doesn't like anything that would need lots of skill.

11yo DD -very slight, skinny build (just as I was at that age and I needn't need a bra until I was about 13) and the only signs are mood swings (lots of), hair that gets greasy very quickly and she claims armpits are getting sweaty at times although not smelly.

Oh, and I've noticed her leg hair seems more obvious this year -I've got a feeling she might want to do something about it -anyone any experience of this with their pre-teen?

LPW I've just gone out today and bought DD a cheap ladyshave.

I have been shaving her armpits for her, but feel it's better for her to get to grips with it herself. I fear a bloodbath leaving her in charge of a razor as last time I did her armpits I only just managed to stop her running her fingers along the blade ! I did warn her it was very sharp.

Her legs have always been quite hairy , but I've noticed recently the hair is getting very dark now so will show her how to do them too.

I'll report back and let you know how she gets on ...

Dd hair started going darker on her legs and unknown to me she got my epilator (which I really use,not brave enough). Dd since told my yes it hurt a bit but she didn't seem to be bothered and slowly (a bit at a time) has done both legs.

I have an epilator which I have said to dt2 she can use. So far she has used veet but wasn't keen on the mess. I'm not comfortable with razors for them so young. Might pay for her to have them waxed as she really hates the hair on her legs but dt1 isn't bothered at all

Wow. I am (and have been) telling dd not to think she needs to remove any bodily hair. I thought it was peer pressure that was the problem, not parental pressure :(

Nooka, I've made it very clear that she can leave it or take it off, as she feels most comfortable. i am keen to give her the option as my mother didn't to me and I remember the humiliation of being laughed at by the boys at school about my hairy armpits. Dd is very shy and self-conscious and would be utterly crushed if that happened to her. (not that I have told her what happened to me.)

nooka -I'm not putting pressure on my DD either.

As I said in my post "I've got a feeling she might want to do something about it" so I would like to be prepared.

I too remember being embarrassed about dark leg hair as a pre-teen (and that was in the days before waxing everywhere became "the norm" which is how it seems today, sadly).

hi , can i join in ?
10 yrs old ,we had a problem with bo but no hair ,hunted everywhere to find something without chemicals that wouldnt stop the sweat but just mask it , i couldnt find anything .in the end i bought an organic lavender roll on deo from health shop .
(im not a vegie health freak ! - just didnt want to interfere with her body so young )

she has a thing for bras /cami tops .she doesnt really need them but she has inverted nipples - she hasnt noticed so ive let her wear them as i didnt want her school friends to realise hers looked different .

she has always had terrible tantrums & these have just got worse & worse & she is so so rude - im permantly cross with her
