Dd just turned 10 (thinks she a mini teen at times). An angel one monent and them the stoppy moody child. It's really amazing the affect of hormones can do.

ps
she has watched me shave my legs since she was young & ive always told her that she will never have to as i will pay for her leg wax when she old enough ,as it weakens the hair folicle & if done from the beginning will eventually slow it right down & hopefully never have brissly legs .

bigdonna · 16/05/2011 13:41

hi my dd has turned 12,she puts nair on her legs ,she started her period when she had just turned 11,she deals with it so well doesnt like to talk about it though i have bought several packets of towels i found teen ones in asda.she needs to have ashower everyday as pongs and needs to wash her hair every two days no spots yet ,i wasnt very spotty!.unfortunately she looks alot older and when we went on holiday last yr to turkey all the men kept saying hi to her ,but once i told them she was only 11 they backed off.im lucky shes not ijnterested in boys yet!

Glad to see this area has appeared. My DD turned 10 last week. She has the temper/moods/hormonal rages that appear common. She doesn't have anything in the way of breast buds or pubic hair. Her head hair does get greasy if she doesn't wash it alternate days.
She is really looking forward to starting her periods. Odd child.

ConfessionsOfaFlask · 17/05/2011 10:54

Can I join too ?

I have 2 DSDs 10 (she'll turn 11 in June) & 9 and DD7.

Eldest ( she is resident with DH & I) is defintely going through all the changes: hair, boobs, mood swings and sweaty !

Glad we have a place to talk about this very troublesome phase.

Mrsfluff · 18/05/2011 10:14

Just found this thread! My DD is 10, she'll be 11 in July. She's been having regular periods since 10yrs 2mths. As for body hair and boobs - she's nearly more than on both counts Shock

Behaviour wise, when she's lovely she's really lovely, but when she's not.......well, it's not easy or nice to deal with.

I do feel she's having to deal with a lot of adult things very young, which makes me really sad. But, she is coping well and I'm hoping that we're getting the teenage hormone phase out of the way early [fingers crossed emoticon]

ConfessionsOfaFlask · 18/05/2011 10:40

We get the same Mrsfluff. DBD1 is just lovely to be around when she is her normal self and sometimes we feel like she has been replaced by some sort of monster a very moody and rude girl... I guess it is typical.

We are apprehending periods as she has been developing so much in the past 6 months. I'm curious, how did you deal with the first one ?

Mrsfluff · 18/05/2011 17:35

I was half expecting it Pegs, as she'd been developing for some time, but it was still a bit of a shock as we were just leaving the house to go to school when the first cramps hit. I suppose I felt it was too grown up for my 'baby' to be going through. Also, they are regular, heavy & painful, which I wasn't expecting straight away. In fact we're home today as Mother Nature arrived at 8.25 in agonising style. Luckily my DD has taken it all in her stride, but is very funny about people knowing.

Mrsfluff · 19/05/2011 06:59

Morning all. DD was off school yesterday due to the pain and looks like we're back to the Dr today. She struggled to get to sleep cos of the pain, but couldn't have anymore tablets and then she was awake 2.30-3.45. She was literally screaming in pain, I've never seen her this bad :( So she's already started on today's quota of pills, which means she's likely to suffer again today, only earlier. I feel pretty useless!

ConfessionsOfaFlask · 19/05/2011 10:49

Poor thing- it must be horrifying when you haven't experienced that pain before. I hope she feels better soon.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 19/05/2011 12:25

Have you looked at a tens machine? My friend has agonising period pain and out of desperation borrowed mine one day. she said it really helped and could be worth considering Mrsfluff.

I'm glad I found this thread, I've been worried all weekend after discovering a few underarm hairs on my DD1 who turned 9 a couple of weeks ago. Is this normal to start puberty so early? I don't remember when I started to get pubic hair and she seems so young. She's very tall and a slightly chubby build, does anyone know if that means she's likely to start periods early?

I've noticed an increase in BO over the past 6 months or so and bought her a deodorant, but she doesn't often remember to use it. She's started to get spots on her nose too (I thought she just wasn't washing properly). I worry about her having to deal with this so young, I can't imagine primary schools are geared up for girls having periods. Although she's tall she's really quite child-like compared to most of her smaller friends.

Hi soo glad ive found this thread!!! Have v moody 10 1/2 yr old and think its hormonal. Shes v tall for her age and has been showing signs of puberty for a while now - boobs, some hair and growing pains in knees and hips. Her mood swings however are hideous and its now taking its effect at school - getting into lots of spats and arguments with other girls and recently had been caught swearing at another girl at school which she knows is totally unacceptable. Husband and I are separated and our divorce is due to come through and day now. Have 2 other daughters (5 and 8) and theyve all coped so well with us moving out. Behaviour hasnt affected her school work and she is due to sit the 11+ in Sept but she is being hideous with her 8yr old sister. Just dont know what to do - I think maybe some quality time with her on our own is needed as my 5yr old is v demanding of my attention. ex husband is being difficult with me and will not help so just feel bit on my own here!!

CeliaFate · 06/06/2011 14:42

I'm so glad I've found this board! My dd is nearly 11. Fluctuates between being immature to stroppy to screaming devil to a lovely, well-mannered girl who's bright, kind and sensitive.

She's had one period over a year ago but nothing since.
She has budding boobs but has no interest in getting a bra or boys or make up. I'm glad of that!

Kestryn · 16/06/2011 23:24

Hello!
I've got a 10 3/4 year old dd who has boobs but no period / body hair yet. She's another one who flies from little angel to stroppy brat, sometimes almost in seconds.

feetheart · 29/06/2011 22:28

Hello, another one here.
DD is only 8 but has definite curves and is starting to develop a breast bud (only 1 so far Hmm)

I was so late - started periods at nearly 15 - that I wasn't expecting this for another 2-3 years!

Any recommendations for a good book for her to help explain things. We talk a lot but she likes to read and I think having something to refer to when she wants to will help.

Kestryn · 30/06/2011 11:05

Feetheart, we bought this one for DD when she was 9. It seems to cover everything at about the right level.

Fennel · 30/06/2011 14:07

My dds (11 and nearly 10) have this book and keep referring to it:

www.amazon.co.uk/Whats-Happening-Me-Facts-Life/dp/0746069952

It seems quite good.

feetheart · 12/07/2011 22:22

Sorry, took a while to get back!

Thanks so much for recommendations.........both on Amazon list now :)

mathanxiety · 14/07/2011 07:00

I used 'The Care and Keeping of You' with the DDs. Great book. No sex ed so maybe nice for younger girls.

I have a 13 yo and almost 10 yo (plus 16 yo and 21 yo DDs, and DS 18). The whole puberty thing seems to be endless here Smile. I've been doing it for 10 years already. Right now it's all quiet on the western front -- the lull before the storm I fear. Wait til I start in on the hot flashes and then we'll be cooking...

OddBoots · 14/07/2011 07:54

I'm just going to poke my head around the door here, dd is 8 and tiny and frustratingly underweight so I think she will hit puberty late but I think I'll need all the help I can get when she does. She is very much the little girl with the curl, she can be very kind and loving but she really does have her little madam moments.

I have ordered that book Kestryn, thank you. I already had What's Happening To Me? but it's nice to have a choice when the time comes!

Kestryn · 17/07/2011 15:13

Hope your DD finds it useful, Oddboots.

Theas18 · 26/07/2011 16:43

Coming out the other side of it all here, sort of (not the tantrums/strops/looks though- she is having them in triplicate as the other 2 didn't bother with them LOL).

Period pains- ibuprofen is probably better than paracetamol (calpol) but you can have both together and make sure they are getting an appropriate dose- if you are big enough to have periods you probably weigh at least 7 stone- so pretty much small adult weight.

Hair removal- cheap and easy ladyshave- that means they do it in thei own rooms and don't hog the bathroom. DD1 was 14-5 before that wasn't smooth enough for her.

And if anyone has the answer to pubertal BO please please tell me- she apparently washes/showers often and uses deoderant (wont ask why hers lasts months and mine lasts weeks..) but I'm now having to sometimes wash her school shirts TWICE to get the smell out (she wears them for a day). PE must be a fragrant experience all round!

Phanatic · 01/08/2011 18:13

So glad I found this thread! I bought DD (10) aluminium free deodarant today as I was noticing a slight odour on occasion (mainly after sports). A few pubic hairs, but nothing else. A bit stroppy. Asked for crop tops (no boobs yet) for changing at school. I'm not ready!!!

ktfs · 08/08/2016 11:06

my 11yr old has been moody......oh sooo moody for probably a yr!!
But when shes not she is just lovely. She has no shape to her at all and not an inch of fat on her but shes desp to grow up......straightening hair, mascara, belly tops!! She told me last week she has a 'fluffy foof'! and my 6yo found it hilarious.... Her friend was over on the wknd and I heard them talking about having 'no boobs yet but slightly 'fat nipples' '
