Cost per session

I've found a lovely pre-school for DS, who is 2.2. It is has had an outstanding Ofsted (does this matter or not at this level?) and has a lovely feel.

Each session costs £12, and lasts 3 hours. I've no idea how this compares, as I've only looked at one other pre-school which costs £7, but is run by the church so I'd imagine less overheads.

Would you mind letting me know how much you pay per session? Not that it matters, I guess if we're happy to pay it but for some reason I want to know. I think for value for money reasons or something.

OUrs is £10 for 2.5 hours hth

thisisyesterday · 20/01/2009 20:16

our local "playgroups" are around £7/£8 for a 2.5 hr session.

ds1's private nursery charge £18.25 for a 5 hr session (that includes breakfast, morning snack and dinner)

so yours sounds about right

Lilyloo · 20/01/2009 20:17

On a previous thread similair to this the price differed widely due to area so might be worth saying where you are.

Incidentally ours is £6 for 2.5 hours in Lancs

BONKERZ · 20/01/2009 20:17

Ours is £7 per session which is 3 hours long! but it is church run too and fantastic!

llareggub · 20/01/2009 20:21

I did look for another thread, although I was a bit distracted by the inauguration.

The pre-school is in a rural area, somewhere in the Midlands...

Ds' pre-school is £5 per 2.5hr session (Barnsley, S. Yorks)

FiveGoMadInDorset · 20/01/2009 20:25

I pay £15 but that is for 5 hours, and includes brekfast and a hot lunch, I think the actual session is £6

Andthentherewerethree · 20/01/2009 20:25

dd's pre-school is £7 a session and for 2 and 1/4 hours. We live in Berkshire.

littlefrog · 20/01/2009 20:28

Crumbs. Wish I lived where you all do. We have DS down for a nursery/preschool that has a 2.75 hr session and costs £19! (£10 once you get the grant aged 3+) Snacks provided by parents on a rota. Is better value than the closest one: £27/3 hours. Crackers...

nancy75 · 20/01/2009 20:29

£12 for a 3hr session in london

ChasingSquirrels · 20/01/2009 20:30

£10 for a 2.5hr session, obviously free for funded over 3's.

bananapaddlepop · 20/01/2009 20:31

£17 for 3 hours - Surrey.

llareggub · 20/01/2009 20:31

Huge variations then!

DD's is 8.00 for a 2.5 hour session in Bedfordshire

Stinkyfeet · 20/01/2009 20:37

£12 per 3 hour session. V popular (3 yr waiting list) in SE (comes under Surrey County Council).

llareggub · 20/01/2009 21:58

Thanks everyone. I think we're going to go for it and I guess the cost will fall dramatically next year when DS turns 3 and qualifies for funding.

£11.50 for a 2.5 hr session in mid Essex (when funded you pay a £2 top up per session)

hester · 20/01/2009 22:08

Reading this makes me want to weep! I pay FORTY FIVE QUID per session (going rate in posh part of London where I live). Less with Nursery Education Grant and childcare vouchers, obviously.

I'll be bankrupt by the time she starts school.

ChasingSquirrels · 20/01/2009 22:10

you should be able to get free sessions with the funding, not reduced ones.

caykon · 20/01/2009 22:14

£6.50 for 2.5hrs in oxfordshire

ohdearwhatamess · 21/01/2009 09:59

£7.50 for 2.75 hours, Herts.

DaddyofThree · 21/01/2009 10:43

£12 for 2.75 hours on Surrey/Hampshire/Berkshire border. £2.5 top up for funded place.

DaddyofThree · 21/01/2009 10:45

Sagacious - on what basis are they charging a top up fee. If the session is 2.5 hours I would not have thought this was allowed - hence the longer sessions for those who charge top-ups.

candyfluff · 23/01/2009 11:42

£5.50 for 2.5 hrs here (suffolk)

CarGirl · 23/01/2009 11:47

Yes they cannot charge you if the session is only 2.5 hours!!!

Our pre-school charges £12 per term for snack provisions for the term for all sessions regardless of how many or whether funded or not.

Unfortunately it is £11.50 for the 3 hours sessions so if you choose those there is a top to pay!
