Can't believe we might actually have a No Deal crash.

Anyone else finding it overwhelming doing usual Christmas stuff, the winter weather preparations and then Brexit and being ready for more coronavirus stuff?

I need to do a stock take of food and toiletries.

We've been life prepping so boiler has been serviced early, electrics have had an upgrade this year. Car getting serviced next month.

I can't be arsed.
I feel sick.

I’ve got quite a comprehensive food stash - two boxes of dry goods in the shed, an under the counter freezer in there too - one drawer of batch cooked meals, one with fruit/veg and one full of ice lollies Blush then in the house I’ve got Two freezer drawers of meat and veg and the smallest drawer of bits and bobs. I’ve sorted milk deliveries and I have a fruit and veg box delivery every fortnight... but of course, that will surely be affected?

I don’t have a toiletries stash and DP has prescription meds that I worry about, but I love hearing about everybody’s organisations!!

Paranoidmarvin · 09/11/2020 19:34

@AlohaMolly tomorrow I’m going to write down what is in each chest freezer and add a list on the top. My husband doesn’t know what is in each one. So a list that we can tick off even in my non brexit freezer I think will help.

AlohaMolly · 09/11/2020 19:40

Yeeees I love my lists!! One taped to the front of everything, item plus tallies and a pen relegated to the shed!

MarshmallowManiac · 09/11/2020 20:36

That's what I did Marvin and am in the process of buying all the 'ingredients' for the meals.
My DH moved the shelves in my cupboard so I can stand my bottles of Olive Oil on the bottom shelf now. Still want to buy another freezer but no sodding room! Sad

BlackeyedSusan · 10/11/2020 11:06

I am going for the tins not frozen option as it is easier to fit a few tins under the wardrobe than a freezer. Grin

we are in for up to two weeks now depending on test results. oh joy. sil asked if we needed food ddelivered... possibly not.

BlackeyedSusan · 10/11/2020 11:11

I currently have a lot of bottles of pop lying on the floor in date order that need to be put away. sorting them out so that I can restock with longer date ones. ds will be pleased as he will get an extra pop ration. and I am pleased as some of them are low calorie so I can have a treat that is a bit more guilt free.

MarshmallowManiac · 10/11/2020 11:48

Haha Blackeyed in my mind's eye have just imagined you surrounded by aforementioned food mountain as you're really organised unlike me and have just visualised your SIL unable to get in with her shopping lol Grin Grin Grin Hope your test results turn out negative. Smile

Begonias · 10/11/2020 12:02

We're isolating as one of the kids tested positive over the weekend. My stockpiling is on go slow at the moment.

Thankfully I have deliveries booked for every Wednesday however in between deliveries I envisage the kids helping themselves to my stockpile especially the Diabetes Drawer ( dedicated to Brexit biscuits, sweets and chocolate stash). I need to make sure I add a little extra to my deliveries. I found that farmfoods are brilliant in terms of prices for snacks and Aldi for tinned food. You know where I'll be in 2 weeks time!

MarshmallowManiac · 10/11/2020 12:16

Laughing and very jealous at your Diabetes drawer Begonias Grin we have a Christmas stash in the wardrobe which definitely doubles as a Diabetes draw Grin Grin Hope isolation goes well, have yet to try Farmfoods Smile

Paranoidmarvin · 10/11/2020 15:53

I have bought three wipeable things. One for each freezer. So today I went though. Made a list. When they come on Friday. I can have it all written down and then wipe off as things get eaten or added. Sadly I’m very excited about this.

MarshmallowManiac · 10/11/2020 16:00

I love lists, I have them stuck on the inside of my cupboards and I move the tally of the contents down as I use them. Good plan I thought only problem is when some people family take things out of cupboard and do not account for them. Aaaarrrgh Angry

BlackeyedSusan · 10/11/2020 17:48

Sorry on your positive test Begonias. Hope you survive the two weeks without too much stress. Ds feels poorly enough to feel more irritable. It is going to be a long time until results and beyond.

MarshmallowManiac · 10/11/2020 21:44

Hope your DS is feeling better soon Blackeyed

EzzieLove · 11/11/2020 19:40

Really must get more organised. Freezer is now bursting at the seams. Had to go on a mercy mission to my daughters last night with a cool box and ice blocks as her freezer has packed up. Managed to squash her bits in with mine, just! Saved the meat and fish but thing the veg may be a gonner.

BlackeyedSusan · 12/11/2020 14:46

Ao deliver sharpish.
I have two freezers for that reason. Plus got ex a freezer so we could distribute food between the two remaining or possibly one remaining if a power cut took mine out. Better than my back up plan of driving fifty miles to mother's.

Ashdownstar · 12/11/2020 16:47

I love the diabetes drawer @Begonias 😂
I cannot have such a thing here as it just wouldn't last!
My stash is still a bit of a jumble but I have separated baking ingredients from general tinned goods. Anything with a use by date within 6 months is in large kitchen larder. The rest is in the loft (have deployed a couple of suitcases to contain some of it as none of us are going anywhere anyway)
We seem to have amassed quite the stash of toothpaste and mouth wash, so we will have fine gnashers at least.
No children here so have decided that 'proper' food (not sweeties etc, much as we love them) is the way to go.
Can't stockpile DHs prescription medicine which I'm just trying not to worry about, but have extensive OTC stash (gathered over 18 months) which includes all sorts of things I hope we won't need (thrush cream, cystitis remedy, eye drops, gaviscon) Plus decent first aid kit. Have stockpiled animal medication, enough for a couple of months at least. Six months flea treatment too.
I'm really hoping this all won't be too bad and that the Foodbank will do well out of us next year.

BlackeyedSusan · 12/11/2020 22:00

eyedrops...

BlackeyedSusan · 13/11/2020 20:14

Another day, another shop. Two substitutions. Not great for Morrisons, though would have been bloody good for Asda. A couple of things were out of stock on the website though.

dubyalass · 14/11/2020 13:35

Joining you all. Currently staying with my father who is mithering about Brexit and saying we need have a stash of food for January but when pressed on this his suggestion is a few extra packets of pasta. He doesn’t know how to cook beyond reheating ready meals or doing pasta with a jar of sauce. I suggest we do meal plans for a fortnight that can be repeated and working out what we need from there. He agrees but that’s where it stops, apparently it’s up to me to sort it.

So. I’ve ordered large bags of bread and pasta flour and have lots of yeast. We have tins of veg, soup, tomatoes, beans, fruit. Also rice and lentils plus lots of spices. There is frozen fruit and veg in the freezer, plus soups and a few treat things. At present we could last a month, six weeks if we are careful. I’d like to have two months’ worth if possible. I’m not buying snacks other than my own hidden chocolate stash because dad will eat the lot in two days as he has no impulse control. It’s up to him if he wants to buy that sort of thing.

dubyalass · 14/11/2020 13:36

Oh and porridge, muesli, peanut butter, powdered milk. We have enough jam and custard powder to last us a year, minimum. Going to freeze grated cheese too.

BlueistheNewme · 14/11/2020 17:40

Sounds like your stash has got most stuff covered. It isn’t looking like Brexit is going to go at all smoothly.

Ashdownstar · 14/11/2020 18:02

Duby that's looking good. I've prepped with family members in mind too. I tried to talk to my widowed elderly mother about it pre the original Brexit date and she told be it was all nonsense. She does generally maintain good stocks in her freezer so I'm not too concerned, but nevertheless I have enough here to keep all of us going for a while if necessary.
There are some you just can't talk about it to I've found. Have tried tentatively suggesting it might be a bumpy ride to a few people I know. Some just scoff, and I sort of think 'sod' 'em' but I hate to think of anyone going hungry. My daughter, thankfully, has started a stash of her own thankfully.

dubyalass · 14/11/2020 18:42

Glad you think I’m on the right track. It might be that I move out before it happens, in which case I’d take the stuff he won’t use and top up with tinned stuff etc for myself. I am well used to scrimping and saving having been on the breadline a few years ago so can make a meal out of all sorts of random ingredients. Am very glad I know how to cook!

Of course I’m hoping it won’t be necessary but I like being prepared just in case. I know plenty of folks who aren’t doing anything - that was me in first lockdown and I learned that lesson fast!

Diversion · 14/11/2020 22:31

I probably have enough for 3 of us for about 2 months, but I also have other DC and their families who dont live with us and 2 sets of elderly and unwell parents. One set always has plenty in store and has required very little throughout lockdown on top of her weekly food shop apart from pudding rice and some fresh fruit and veg. The other set ran out of food and essentials constantly even with a regular weekly food shop and lots of reminders and encouragement to stock up etc. I have been prepping for about 4 years now and am ok about what we have but am more concerned about how I would ration out our stores to make them last as long as possible. One of my DC has her own preps and offered us a huge amount of tinned food after the last lockdown ended which I declined and asked her to keep "just in case". All of my DC know that Mum has a supply of food and other items which I would of course share and they are the main reason that I prep in the first place. Throughout the first lockdown we all shared shopping slots and various resources for food and essentials and we did pretty ok between us.

BlackeyedSusan · 15/11/2020 00:10

Mum is in a care home so no worries about food there.

Just us three here and ex. I am getting ex organised. Wish he would do it himself but he is accepting food I send from the joint shop.
