Sorry I couldn't find a new thread. If there is one already, I'll have this deleted.

Will get links etc brought over from last thread too.

I’m genuinely not suggesting anything is taken away from this thread it’s great as it is.

My thought about a homesteading thread was more of a focus on the living of things already prepped for as it were.

tryingtoprep · 11/03/2020 21:03

I considered an oxygen concentrator. They're not cheap. I decided against as I'm nervous how safe they are to use without medical supervision? I'm upping my iron intake - thinking it will help increase blood oxygen levels. I'm probably confusing things but I'm slightly low anyway so no harm done.

I think some garden centres have online stores now. I've bought from Wilko online on the past but just soil.

It's looking like most other countries round the world are doing more than us. They'll need to ban flights from the UK!

Thanks for the other thread @Neome It would be nice to have in addition (rather then instead) of this one.

MakeLemonade · 11/03/2020 21:04

Pharmacies and supermarkets the only businesses to open for the next 14 days in Italy. That’s crazy! Hopefully this will make a big impact on the numbers.

AmelieTaylor · 11/03/2020 21:06

TEDROS.

(About controlling it)

It’s not whether they CAN do the same, but whether they WILL’

Chilling.

When the actual fuck is the GOVT going to fucking listen???

I feel like a pawn in a game Boris is playing. Never have I felt so utterly terrified and impotent.

I wish TEDROS could TELL him what he has to do 🤬

itsnotjustflu · 11/03/2020 21:07

thanks for the link @ItsNotJustTheFuckingFlu downloading now. With regards to freezer products are they all just expected to last around 6 months from freezing do you think or much longer? I'll download it for my ipad and get the LO to help me scan things etc.

These figures from Italy are REALLY making me distrust the stats from China (& Iran/South Korea to some extent) even more than I've ever done before

We are pretty much decided that DS will be going in tomorrow and Friday and then that will be it for the forseable future. Hopefully more and more will follow suit and they won't be able to cope with fining us all etc etc. We think we will start with ringing him in sick and then work from there if nothing happens with Boris paying attention to what WHO have said today. I am eternely grateful I found sensible people through this thread that we can chat and work through what we can together. I'm also very grateful for all the advice and information you've provided me. Hopefully we can all keep each other sane.

@WwwashYourHands fingers crossed indeed

Matt Hancock surely didn't say that....... surely and how do they know it will be a few months. No other country has been a few months. We are on exactly the same trajectory as Italy. Abandon all hope of sensible precautions

pemberlyshades · 11/03/2020 21:08

@janebond
Haven't caught up with the the thread this evening but that's a very good point

MoreCoffeeNeeded · 11/03/2020 21:09

@VenetoResident I just saw your president is closing all but food shops? Is that right?

itsnotjustflu · 11/03/2020 21:13

crikey Actimel nearly out of stock as well at Morrisons

ChilliMayo · 11/03/2020 21:14

Don't forget that old standby mustard cress, it will even sprout when grown on damp cotton wool (I always have a couple of saucers of it on the windowsill). Good for iron and vitamin c, and will provide another distraction for the dc.

Playing with lives by saying it’s still months left and once the shtf - just apologise and move on - I don’t think how people here are allowing this.. I’m panicking more now..

VenetoResident · 11/03/2020 21:20

@Morecoffeeneeded - yes - shops, bars, pubs, restaurants all to close.

Not pharmacies, food shops, banks or post offices though (post offices here do a lot of different bill paying functions).

Public transport will keep running. Which makes sense or the medical staff won't be able to get to work. We have lots of pollution driving restrictions here so many use public transport.

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 11/03/2020 21:21

As far as the homesteading thread is concerned at this point, it kind of excludes those of us who'd like to close ourselves in and protect our families, but have to continue working Sad

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 11/03/2020 21:21

(and I have been here since thread 1 under a different username).

Blueberryham · 11/03/2020 21:22

Yes it’s a lot of money for oxygen concentrator. And I have no idea if it need extra supplies. Possibly would do more harm than good really

TiddleTaddleTat · 11/03/2020 21:24

Reading that lancet editor's tweet has unnerved me. Somehow I had started to believe the govt had a logical and science based reason for doing little to contain at the moment. I'm now feeling very uneasy about it. Not to mention feeling not very well , though it's headache / dry cough / fatigue and no temp so....

Filitheyofun · 11/03/2020 21:27

It's all so real now 😪 I still can't believe family and friends think it's nothing I think my mum thinks I'm over reacting as I got supplies in over 2 weeks ago. Thank goodness my husband agrees with me. He thinks tens of thousands will get virus in UK. 😪. Stay safe everyone!

doneaflit · 11/03/2020 21:27

Hi, I'm in self isolation due to contact with confirmed case. I'd prepped for complete lockdown, really wasn't expecting this self isolation, where everything else seems to be carrying on as normal.

So I'm still getting my milk delivery, could get an online shop sent if I need to. I've had loads of offers of help, or people dropping stuff at doorstep.

I'd got some cash out in prep (for lockdown, not self isolation) and not sure if it's useful - why would it be better than bank transfer, seeing as no one will want to accept the cash off me!

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 21:29

Ok fine, look how proactive this is - I thought I can leave it couple of days to decide if I have to flee and now this www.livemint.com/news/india/coronavirus-update-india-bars-entry-of-foreigners-oci-cardholders-advises-against-foreign-travel-11583948566541.html

doneaflit · 11/03/2020 21:30

My first paragraph is clumsy. Sorry. What I mean is that things changed for me very quickly. Within a few minutes I'd gone from carrying on almost normally to going home and locking us in. So be prepared to act fast and with no warning.

Sprayitall · 11/03/2020 21:35

@doneaflit May I know the reason why they have advised self isolation in your case? I would say enjoy your self isolation time in peace than worrying about it - If this seems weird, please note this is coming from a very worried concerned sleep deprived mum who actually needs some self isolation from the stupidity that’s happening all around 😞

pemberlyshades · 11/03/2020 21:37

10 days eh @wheresmymojo. Thank you.
Again-
We knew this
We prepped for this
We've got this

Also- I don't think we should split off into sub groups. Let's keep all the info here for future Google-ers

doneaflit · 11/03/2020 21:40

@sprayitall because of close contact with a confirmed case. Myself and colleagues sent home yesterday.

MakeLemonade · 11/03/2020 21:40

NEW: Austrian schools will suspend teaching from next Wednesday.

Children can be dropped off if parents can't look after them at school

Chancellor @sebastiankurz urging parents not to get grandparents to look after them #CoronaVirusUpdate

twitter.com/darreneuronews/status/1237852247746199564?s=21

Can’t work out if this is smart as it enables health workers and essential services to keep running or self-defeating as you’ll have loads of kids at the school anyway?

Tonight seems like a big tipping point in Europe. I wonder how different things would be if we weren’t Brexiting. Seems like there is some EU wide approach being applied?
