Please, can you critique my prepping plan? Is there anything we are missing?

FOOD,
Our kitchen cupboards are normally reasonably stocked with at least a week of food at any one time. We have a 6ft chest freezer and a regular freezer stocked with meat (Venison and Pork) and leftovers. We will use this first. We have approximately 2 weeks of food here. Our Second level is pressure canned food, we have a mix of venison, and vegetable sauces, here we have approximately 2 weeks of food.
Our final level is shop bought cans and dried food again another 2 weeks of food so that gives us a total of 7 weeks of food in the house. Plus 30kg of dog food, for the dogs.

In addition to this we grow our own vegetables and keep chickens.

WATER
We have 113L of water stored, with the capacity to store an additional 120L. We also have our own well and electric pump

SANITARY
I make my own soap and bath products, I guess we are short on loo roll

POWER
We have a 5000w generator and a 1200 generator. The bigger generator is powerful enough to run the fridge, freezer, well pump and a couple smaller items.
FUEL
We have a wood burner for heat, we have 1 acer of woodland at home and 120 acres of woodland 20 miles from home. We store 30-40L of petrol, and 4-5 propane tanks for the BBQ/propane heater

SPARES
DH Keeps a set of basic spare parts for both cars, ATV's Chainsaw, Mower and other items around the house. We should be able to repair the majority of things at home.

DEFENSE
We have firearms for hunting which can be used. We store 200 bullets per gun ready, and have the equipment and supplies to manufacture our own ammunition (additional 300 bullets per gun)

GO BAGS
We each have a go bag, with basic survival items, 24hrs of food and medical supplies. We also have all our important documents scanned and stored on USB. Each Car also has additional survival items and a tool/spares kit.

MEDICAL
Comprehensive first aid kit with dressings, plasters. Military battle dressings
Burn Kit
Suture Kit
Dental kit
Meds including paracetamol, aspirin, ibuprofen, Imodium. We also have prescription antibiotics and painkillers.

MISCELLANEOUS
Police scanner/walkie talkie type radios
AM/FM radio
Spare mobile phones
Geiger counter
Alcohol and cigarettes for trading
Vegetable seeds for the vegetable garden (2 years worth)

This is absolutely crazy. What on earth are you prepping for?? The end of the world?!

Snog · 31/07/2018 20:00

@cloudtree and @RedneckStumpy thank you for the explanation much appreciated Smile

bellinisurge · 31/07/2018 20:02

@ShirleyPhallus - @RedneckStumpy lives in the US. It's different to here. The scale is different and the threats can be a bit more intense.
@RedneckStumpy is not suggesting we all do what they are doing.
Please chill out.

ShirleyPhallus · 31/07/2018 20:03

I’m very chilled thanks! Genuinely what do people worry is going to happen though?

bellinisurge · 31/07/2018 20:06

This is the Prepper topic. Do you go on The Litter Tray and ask people why they have cats?
Hop over to the AMA I did a couple of weeks ago and I'll happily answer any questions you have. I've set out my reasons earlier in this thread to save you the bother.
I appreciate that non-preppers assume this is all about Brexit. It isn't.

ShirleyPhallus · 31/07/2018 20:08

No, I look on active threads. Thanks for being the thread police though.

This board really is as weird as I initially thought

Au revoir!

bellinisurge · 31/07/2018 20:16

Cheers @ShirleyPhallus - maybe you could have fun on Home Education or Vaccinations or Infant Feeding or Telly AddictsGrin

Oly5 · 31/07/2018 20:21

Yes, this is completely bonkers.
I’m amazed people worry about this stuff!

bellinisurge · 31/07/2018 20:24

I get snowed in virtually every year. Will you come and help me @Oly5 ?

TheCrowFromBelow · 31/07/2018 21:46

You need to rotate your meds, water and seeds too.

bastardkitty · 31/07/2018 21:48

If it's a nuclear war, don't eat the vegetables from the garden.

SurfnTerfFantasticmissfoxy · 31/07/2018 21:57

If you don't already it's worth getting a sourdough starter on the go - means you can always make bread with just flour and water.

bellinisurge · 31/07/2018 21:59

@SurfnTerfFantasticmissfoxy - that's something I've only just started to look at - courtesy of this topic. I'd heard about it before but that's all. Sounds like a great idea.

cloudtree · 31/07/2018 22:00

surf do you have any tips for a decent sour dough starter? I started one about 6 months ago and whilst it was definitely alive, it didn't make great bread.

cloudtree · 31/07/2018 22:02

Bread machine is on my purchase list to make bread making easier.

pennycarbonara · 31/07/2018 22:03

This is like the prepper equivalent of the "do I need botox/filler/surgery?" posts where the pictures show OP already looks like a model.
(Except quite a lot of them are insecure and don't realise they do.)

Maybe those people who do the scoring on the Doomsday Preppers TV show would think you have something to add, but on Mumsnet - unlikely! Grin

RedneckStumpy · 31/07/2018 22:27

DuchessThingy thanks!!
