How much did your prem baby weigh....

At birth (and what was the gestation), 6mths and 12mths.

I know you can't compare babies but just curious to see how much weight prem babies put on and if it is at a similar rate to term babies.

My DD weighed 2lb 1oz at birth.
Was born at 30 +6 but small for dates/IUGR.
She's now 11 wks and weighs 4lb 7oz.

I was so obsessed by my twins weight. They were born at 28 weeks and weighed 2lb 9 and 2lb 11. I can still remember the dreaded weigh ins at clinic and hated them as Jack has CLD and reflux so never put on huge amounts of weight and even lost at times, especially when I was weening him. The woman who weighed them would always announce his gain or loss to the entire room and I'd feel like such a bad Mum. In the end my fab HV got wind of this and came and weighed them at home. She really took the pressure off. She said that as long as they follow their centiles and didn't drop a whole 2 centiles they were doing fine and not to worry. She said that weight gain does fluctuate a lot even in term babies but we notice it more as our tiny ones have to be weighed more often. Once they were weened she gave me some fab tips on how to help their weight. Full fat double cream, unsalted butter, olive oil and full fat cheese in anything they'd go in. It worked a treat! They are 2 1/2 now and 2 1/2 stone a piece. It took them those 2 years to really catch up developmentally and size wise but you'd never know now they were so tiny when they were born

I know it's easy for me to say this now but try not to worry too much about her weight gain. She will catch up eventually xxxx

MrsScarlett · 10/01/2011 11:49

My daughter was born at 34 weeks but was only 2lb 15oz ( she was small due to my placenta failing therefore not feeding her )

I cant remember what she was at 6 months but she was 20lbs at 1 yr, she has just turned 2 and is 28lb

Twins born at 28 weeks

J - 2 lb 11oz S - 2 lb 9oz

Now 2 1/2 and 2 1/2 stone each!!!!

I put lots of fats into their food. So full fat cheeses, full fat double cream and unsalted butter into anything they would go in to to get the calories into them. It worked a treat and they are now on the 50th centile for height and weight for their actual age

Don't worry, they soon catch up xxx

slinkyfish · 13/02/2011 11:20

Ooops - forgot I'd already posted on here!! What can I say, I have a brain like a cabbage!!

Geepers · 13/02/2011 11:30

I've posted on this thread already too (duncandisorderly) but can now update that my twins were 1lb 3oz and 1lb 5oz when born, 10-11lbs at six months, and 17lbs at 12 months. They were 23 weekers.

GoingForGoalWeight · 22/01/2012 00:48

workshy · 22/01/2012 00:54

just to cheer the premie parents up

my twin brother and I were born at 32 weeks, I was 3lb 10, my brother was 3lb 8

we are now 33, I'm 6ft, he is 6ft 4, both university graduates, and gainfully employed with families of our own

no developmental delays, I have slight vision issues that they can't say if connected with being prem or not but corrected with glasses and never held me back

cherrybird1978 · 23/01/2012 14:02

My ds was born at 27+4 weeks weighing 1lb 13oz, came home at 11wks weighing 4lb 5oz. She is now 5yo, and although petite (still fits in 2-3yrs trousers/skirts) she shows no signs of being born preemie.

KirstyLambo · 04/02/2012 20:23

Hey! I thought I'd post after coming across this thread because I found it so interesting and have a (very!) surprising response!
You'll have to excuse the fact I'm not down with the abbr. lingo on here lol...
But... My son was born at 34+4 and weighed a whopping 8lb 4oz!!
Hes now nearly 5 months old and weighs 18lb 14oz!! (such a big boy but solid & really tall!) -although makes your eyes water to think how big he would have been had I reached full term!!
He was born with Severe Respiratory Distress & had pretty bad jaundice but only spent 10 days in intensive care until he came home & shows no signs of being a prem baby.

beckyboo232 · 12/02/2012 22:22

Ds born at 27 weeks 2lb 4oz needed several operations Sad at 11 weeks old was 4lb 14oz. Can't remember the other sorry but now 3 weighs 31lbs still light but tall with no issues Smile Smile

featherbag · 17/02/2012 17:54

My DS was born at 32wks 5lbs 3.5ozs (I had GD), and was 16lbs 9ozs at 17 weeks actual. He was bf til 6 weeks, then mix fed for 4 weeks, then ff as I had supply issues and was starving him! Have had run-ins with the HV, who doesn't believe me when I say he has 5 8oz bottles a day, no solids, nothing else. He's just putting weight on so quickly, I can see why they'd be sceptical but it's not helping as I know I'm telling the truth and while they're considering me being a liar as a possible cause, they're not considering anything else!

liklestar · 15/03/2012 14:19

My daughter was born at 23 weeks and 5 days weighing 1lb 7oz..... she is now 5 years old but has severe special needs, she is so special to us and our lives have been filled with such joy!

GotMyLittleLamb · 16/05/2012 06:43

My DD was born at 26+5 and weighed 1lb 10oz, she is now 14 weeks (5 days corrected) and is 4lb 15oz. She has spent most of her time in the NNU nil by mouth and not taking as much through the drips as she should due to lots of problems though.

BadNails · 18/05/2012 08:36

PinkyNail was born at 25+4 weeks weighing 1lb 8.

At six months actual (14 weeks corrected) she weighed 9lbs 4. She enjoys hovering between the 0.4th and 2nd percentile for her adjusted age.

Gonnabe · 10/06/2012 22:25
