Just seen this new bit & thought I'd get it started & say hello.
DS2 was born at 28wks & we went through all the normal ups & downs in SCBU.
Ds2 is 5 now & although does have some life long disabilities as a result of his prem birth he is an amazing, happy healthy little boy.

Hi Rascal! I know it's all so stressful when you're in SCBU, but she is doing brilliantly and I'm sure things will start to settle down when you are able to go home. How is the breastfeeding going?

sugar34plum · 22/01/2008 13:34

hi dd1 was born at 30 weeks weighing 3 lb 3oz and came home at 12 days no problems at all and is 12 in may.

ds2 was born at 30 wks weighing just 1 lb 14oz lots of problems with jaundice and tummy infections then an emergeny double hernia op followed by bronciolitus. His profoundly deaf and has had a cochlear implant. but his gorgeous goes to a mainstream school with a deaf unit attached.

Both mine were due to extreme pre clampsia.

Its just a shame they cant work out while you suffer with some pregnancies and not others.

Hi everyone btw1

jabberwocky · 22/01/2008 15:45

I had pre-eclampsia too. It so sucks. Did you have to do the magnesium drip after? I felt like I was on another planet for 24 hours but they said it would prevent the possibility of seizures later on so no complaints from me!

Oh, and we weaned at 6 months actual age. Ds2 has actually done much better with it than ds1 (who made it to full-term).

TinkerbellesMum · 22/01/2008 20:45

My first daughter was Lily-Hope, born alive at 20 weeks and lived three hours. 10 months later came Tink who was born at 31 weeks. Lily-Hope was due to an undiagnosed autoimmune disorder and Tink was due to having gone into early labour before.

Tink is now 18 months and doing really well. She is small for her age, but otherwise more than keeping up with her birth peers.

toytownmum · 22/01/2008 23:41

Rascal1979 dd looks gorgeous and brings back so many memories.. She WILL be home before you know it and these weeks will eventually become distant memories. Having said that I made some of the best friends ever through those doors of NNU. DS is 4 next month and although he was born at 29 weeks, developmentally wise he is at the same stage as any other child at his nursery.
Take care

ArchiesMama · 22/01/2008 23:58

Yeah you do make some good friends in NNU/SCBU i went for lunch with 3 i met today our babies are 3 months and range from 32 to 35 weekers and the smallest is now 8lbs! Its great to see them all growing into healthy sized babies!

itsachallenger · 23/01/2008 08:45

My DD was born at 29 weeks weighing 3lb 2ozs wait for it, 25 years ago. She is now pregnant herself and due in August, on her first wedding anniversary. Had no problems from being so small, was a gymnast, has a degree and is a radiographer. Medical science has come a long way in the last 25 years but I still worry that she too will have a small baby/early baby.

charleymouse · 23/01/2008 15:49

Hi My identical DTs were born at 31 weeks due to polyhydramnios (too much fluid). Turns out DT1 (3lb 10oz) did not have a proper throat and was not processing amniotic fluid so it just built up until I popped. Unfortunately he did not make it.

DT2(3lb 0.5oz) is now weighing in at about 14lb and doing great. I was also advised to wean at actual age rather than adjusted but he was almost 8 months before we really got cracking with it. No long term effects AFAIK but he had pneumonia/meningitis at 3 months which needed a weeks hospital stay.

TinkerbellesMum · 23/01/2008 19:20

Charleymouse, sorry to hear about your son. Can I ask if he had TOFs? My nephew does and you don't hear about many of them.

hertsnessex · 23/01/2008 19:28

both mine were born at 36wks.

ds1 was 5lb 14oz and in scbu for 1week
ds2 was 7lb 13.5oz and in scbu for 1night

cx

toytownmum · 23/01/2008 19:39

Charleymouse - Sorry to hear your story, DS1 was also a twin, but his brother was born asleep.

AngeG · 23/01/2008 20:17

Just thought I'd say hello

DS was born at 34 weeks by emergency c-section due to oliohydramnios (too little fluid) and IUGR. He had stopped growing at 28 weeks and weighed in at 2lbs 10oz. Spent 3 weeks in scbu, mainly just putting on weight, although we did have a scare with NEC. He came home weighing 3lbs 12oz. He is now 4 years old and you would never realise!

DD born at 39+4 weighing 6lbs 12oz, with no problems at all during the pregnancy. Even though I worried all the way through.

Charleymouse and Towntownmum, sorry to hear your stories

Itsachallenger - Wow 25 years ago!

WingsofanAngel · 23/01/2008 20:28

Hello DS1 now 8 was born at 32wks due to severe pre eclampsia and HELLP. He had few problems after he was born 4lb 6oz came home at 3 wks.
He's a really clever boy when it comes to practically things loves to take things apart and build them up again.
He has a few learning difficulties but we can't all be academic.

rascal1979 · 23/01/2008 22:27

Hiya all

Madmumnika - not been on the Bliss message board will have a look thanks x

It's amazing that there are quite a few already on here that have suffered from HELLP. I'd never even heard about it until I suffered from it. I really think that it is something that pregnant women should be told about more. I've emailed my local newspaper to ask them to run a story on it to highlight the issue and to get Mumsnet some well deserved recognition.

If it wasn't for Mumsnet (and in particular Leigeandleaf's advice) my daughter and I may not be here now.

Toytownmum - thanks for your comments - I've put a few more new pics of her on my profile - she's really coming on now just seems like an age some days

Nat1H · 23/01/2008 22:38

Just wanted to say hello! Ds1 was a 32 weeker - he's great, has no probs at all. DS2 was born at 35 weeks and has CP - triplegia.

mymatemax · 24/01/2008 10:31

Rascal your dd is beautiful, you can see how much she has grown in your photos, she looks all lovely & plump
I hope she is home with you very soon.

Regarding HELLP I took part in a trial for Magnesium sulphate. I don't know if this a treatment they now give or not.

Thanks for your kind comments re Amelie. I think she is rather georgeous but then I am biased! She is getting really chubby and doing well. Had our first real breastfeed today withthe help of nipple shields - she was struggling to latch on without and they have made a real difference.

WingsofanAngel I too had the Magnesium sulphate in an attempt to stabalise me before I had the C -Section.

Califrau - 5lb 6 at 33 weeks !! that seems really big! (mine was 2lb 1oz at 31 weeks! - had IUGR tho)

OverMyDeadBody · 24/01/2008 22:29

Hello everyone! Just wanted to join in. DS, who will be 5 soon, was a 29 weeker. Wend into labour the week before he was born but they managed to stop it and gave DS steroids for his lungs. He weighed 4 pounds so very good for his age! I got to take him home three weeks later when his sucking reflex kicked in. It was the scariest and loneliest three weeks of my life, I spent the entire time in the hospital, still makes me well up remembering it all.

DS is now doing really well and is tall for his age, you'd never know he was premature!

Charleymouse and Towntownmum, sorry to hear your stories.

jabberwocky · 25/01/2008 01:22

charelymouse and toytownmum, so sorry

So, there's at least 3 of us who went on the mag drip, then? It gave me such a bizarre feeling.

btw, I looove the name Amelie! It was on my girl list. But we have two boys and now we're done.

My DS1 threatened to arrive at 25 weeks and I was hospitalised for 3weeks on a drip to stop him coming and given steroids for his lungs and eventually sent home on drugs to stop the contractions that I had started having at 20 weeks. I was confined to the house but my waters broke at 35weeks. He was quite a good size 6lb but badly jaundiced and slow to gain. He turned 5 yesterday! No reason ever given for the complications except the ever-present 'stress'. My mum likes to blame all the flying I did during the pregnancy.

DS2 made it to term but I was taking heaps of supplements from a naturopath and I am now 22 weeks and worried about a low placenta - still getting help from a naturopath so fingers crossed.

AussieSim · 25/01/2008 02:27

Oh - just read a few more posts and thought I should add that the Naturopath has had me on Magnesium supplements for DS2's pregnancy and this one too.
