Any experience?

Hi I'll try to keep this is as short as possible, am currently 18 weeks with My second pregnancy my son was born following a car crash 4 years ago at 26 weeks. Due to ongoing complications this pregnancy is very high risk, I've been in hospital for weeks not least because I'm bleeding from the placenta. At the moment baby is looking good but term delivery was never going too be a option. Today the drs said we are now looking at a very pre term delivery as the risks to both of us are increasing faster than they had hoped. Does anyone have any experince of anything like this? How do they judge when the risks are too high? I'm so scared for my baby :(

Hi, couldn't read and not post. I only have experience of a 28 weeker, so nothing you don't already know. But sending you hugs and I hope someone can offer you advice soon.

Hi mama1980,
Your situation sounds very similar to mine. I had my baby at 27 weeks after heavy and continual bleeding from 19 weeks with 2 massive bleeds at 19+5 and 20+3 all apparently down to low lying placenta. At 26 weeks I had a prom and went into natural labour 1 week later.
Before 24 weeks, they judge the risks as high, when the mothers life is in danger. With my massive bleeds,I was told that if the bleeding could not be controlled and I was at risk of serious complications, then they would need to deliver to save me but all the time,I was fine and baby was fine they would do nothing, just monitor. And this was the case, my pregnancy continued albeit with continued bleeding.

Post 24 weeks, when baby is deemed to viable, with a good chance of survival, the high risks and need for delivery would be if you were in danger and/or the baby was showing signs of distress.

I wish you all the best,I can remember all too clearly what a worrying time it is.

My advice would be to go on complete bed rest and ask for steroid injections to assist baby's lungs as soon as you hit 24 weeks. Have they prescribed iron tablets too?

Thank you all so much. Sorry for my late reply. It's been crazy. I'm still in hospital 23 weeks today and things are looking increasingly worrying, I have been told to prepare myself for a very pre term delivery. I have been total bed rest and having blood/ iron/ the yellow vitamin drip thing to try to keep us stable. They hoped to get me to 28/30 weeks but that's not really likely now they say. Scans Are showing signs of potential foetal distress and I'm being monitored every few hours have been for days and so far so good. Im so so scared. Thank you for the link I've had a read, some amazing inspirational stories on there.

I can understand that you are scared, but you are so close to that magic 24 week point now, every day more is an achievement. Neonatal care is so fantastic these days.

Oh mama, you poor thing. I spent a month in hospital before my daughter was born three months early. Different circumstances, but I will never forget the worry, despair and fear of the unknown. I feel for you and am wishing you the very best of luck.

Thanks so much everyone for taking the time to reply Thanks to all. I have another scan tomorrow to check for bruising/bleeding and further distress so I am hoping for good news. Heartbeat for now is stable and they'll be giving the first lot of steroids on Friday. Feeling a little calmer today, my dr is cautiously optimistic that even if they had to deliver (the unit is aware i might deliver a micro preemie) in the next week or so but obviously everyday day counts.

Good luck and I'll think of you. I was in the delivery unit for just over a week before my DS finally made an appearance at 26+3 and it was one of the most traumatic experiences imaginable, so I really feel for you. Cross off every hour, every day that passes as a huge achievement.

Something, i wish i had of known about with my premmie is magnesium sulphate before delivery!!! There is a post with more detailed information on here a bit further own, but it helps protect the babies brain. I wasn't given it and don't know why because other mums were?? So do ask your consultant.....

Hello I have been asked by mama1980 to update I hope I am doing this right, I am replying to the first threads on her list. My nephew alexander was born at 2.41 this morning by emergency c section. He is doing well but Bec is intensive care after losing a lot of blood. Hopefully this is just a precaution.
I'm sure she will update as soon as she can
