Im planning on having an abortion this week and am currently 10 weeks, Im so frightened as its in hospital and a medical one. Im sad about it naturally but feel its the right choice for me. Has anyone been through similar at this stage of pregnancy who can advise what’s likely to happen and what pain Im going to experience. Thank you

I beg your pardon!? You have absolutely zero idea as to why OP is having this. It may be a medical need like mine was. I (& baby) would've died if my second pregnancy continued.
Regardless, having a choice is legal in this country. You should be ashamed of yourself for disgusting and disrespectful comment

AnxiouslyAwaitingSpring · 02/03/2025 01:06

@Oum7683 I had a medical abortion at 9 weeks in a hospital and it was surprisingly painless. As I said in my reply comment above, I had a severe medical requirement for this and so it was done on a women's surgical ward in my local hospital but in a private room.
I took the Mifepristone the night before at the hospital and then the next day I was given a vaginal suppository of I think 2 tablets and then it was a matter of waiting.
I obviously won’t go into any graphic detail but for me personally it was completely painless but I know that most women do experience some cramping.
Post procedure there was just like a very heavy period for about 2/3 weeks. Best of luck

Why?

How odd.

ValentinesGranny · 02/03/2025 01:09

What's going on with the first two comments.? I cant see anything reportable or disgusting with the OP. I can, however, with your responses.
I have no experience so can't help but you must do what you feel is right for you.

In the miscarriage section......?

Ok

Ok

So politely suggest that the OP puts in a request to move the thread elsewhere! Don’t call the poor woman disgusting ffs. I would argue that IF OP’s procedure is mandatory for a genuine and severe medical reason then it is a pregnancy loss… I was grieving for literal YEARS after it happened to me (still am). Knowing there was nothing whatsoever that could’ve been done to carry my much wanted baby to full term without both of us guaranteed to lose our lives? Leaving my existing child without a mummy?

But then maybe explain that to the OP. It might be that she is new here.

Only that is nothing remotely like ops situation. She is having an abortion and planning to lie to others about having a miscarriage. Talk about insensitive! https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/relationships/5285313-looking-for-advice

AnxiouslyAwaitingSpring · 02/03/2025 02:11

@Pe1ican How is that any of your business? What a sad thing to do, to go and search an OP's posting history to 'catch her out' 🙄🤨 I'm pretty sure that's troll hunting

@Oum7683 I hope the procedure goes well and I hope you are doing ok. I’m sorry you’ve had some less than sensitive replies. x

Coconutter24 · 02/03/2025 09:22

Totally the wrong topic to put this question in. ‘Miscarriage/pregnancy loss’ by the sounds of it yours is neither. You are choosing this so highly insensitive to put it here where people are grieving losses and you are deciding to terminate. If there is a reason other than “Im sad about it naturally but feel its the right choice for me” such as medical/criminal/abuse that should of been stated and I think you’d get a warmer welcome and advice. Obviously no one has to explain anything they don’t want but equally have to accept not all answers are going to be what you want to here especially on this topic

SilverScales · 03/03/2025 04:05

Hi Oum, I just wanted to say I'm sorry for the trauma you're going through. The pain of the procedure is one thing, the potential grief and emotional pain are things many women only find out later on. At ten weeks it's not too likely you're making this decision in a state of sheer panic, you've probably had time to think about whether this is something you truly want to do, or if you feel you have no other choice. For most women it's still a very difficult choice. I hope you have the support and encouragement to make the best choice for yourself, and that whatever you do, it leads to peace in your life. I think you should call the doctor/place you're planning to have the abortion to find out more about the procedure so that you know what to expect, as different surgery centers have their own ways of doing things, and depending on the stage of the pregnancy.

Thank you for all your advice and yes I am new here so apologies. It should just be something that women should be aware of…. No woman on this planet when she is having an abortion just frivalously decides to do so and does so out of mallice or without any care or indecisiveness. Its a traumatic experience one that I really have thought about and cried about. Ive had counselling, Ive spoken to alot of healthcare professionals and he he majority have been so supportive, I think to myself if this was my daughter going through such an ordeal what would I like for her to encounter from the women around her and you should think the same. There is zero need for any venom towards each other. If you think abortion is the easy choice or that you do not grieve, let me tell you you do. If anything your responsible for that grief. You cant talk to anyone about it etc forums like this are a godsend for some women who can talk to other women and share personal experiences without the need of being misinformed by google etc. Being kind is free and easy

May peace be with you Oum, and if you need help afterward, make sure you get whatever you need. I agree, there's no excuse not to be kind to people. The world needs more love above anything.
