Abortion (I'm frightened)

Hello,

I have found that I am recently pregnant. However, due to financial difficulty and studying I have decided to have a termination. I rang up my local clinic today and have to wait a week for my consultation. I am absolutely terrified at the moment and can't stop crying and the thought of waiting a week is making me so anxious. I really need some support at the moment and was wondering if people could reply with their experiences and how long they had to wait xx

Oh OP I haven't been in your situation and I'm sure someone will be along soon but I wanted to say you are so brave to make the decision you've made and it wouldn't have been easy but everything will be all right.

Thank you so much for your reply and support xxx

I had one OP. How many weeks are you?
I was 5 weeks pregnant after split condom and the morning after pill failed (my period was so regular I knew almost immediately)
I was seen by a GP first, then a clinic , then the actual termination was about 8 days after I first went.
Are you in the UK? Could you ring the GP for an emergency appointment to speed it along?

Ah ok so pretty similar timeline to me.
FWIW it was a great decision for me personally and I am glad I made it. I felt very frightened too, and I spoke to a friend who had one so I knew what it would be like. Feel free to ask me anything. Hearing other experiences really helps me so if i can be of help, please ask.

Thank you so much, I feel relieved to have found people who have been through the same as me as I just feel a tad lonely with it all. Just wondering after the consultation did you have to wait long for the tablets? Xxx

No, it was next available slot which was a couple of days .
Are you worried about it being longer and therefore worse? For me it was like a heavy period. It felt and looked no different x

They have no reason to make you wait. It's best all round if its sooner. Can you ring your GP rather than the clinic for an emergency appointment?
Ot have you contacted the abortion clinic directly? I had to have a referral from the doctor in my area

Clivetastic · 24/01/2022 19:31

Hi @Cats345.
I have been through this also. I was 6 weeks when I went for my termination.
It's totally natural to feel the way you're feeling even when you know that this is the right choice for you and that embryo.
I had my initial consultation and they gave me the first tablet there and then. That was to essentially 'put to sleep' the embryo. I then had to wait some time before I took the second tablet which was to induce the 'removal' ( I was at home at this stage).
Do you have someone who can be with you and support you through this?

93lu86 · 24/01/2022 19:31

@Cats345 hello, I went through very similar situation back in August. From contacting BPAS initially it was about 2 weeks until my telephone consultation with a really lovely lady. I was so sure on my dates that I didn't have to go in for a consultation or scan and the tablets were sent to me the next day. I felt so alone when I was going through it all, but there are actually lots of people who have gone through this and support you. Sending you love Thanks

Hello,

My partner will be with me to support me through it. I am just hoping it isn't dragged out, as the clinic said I would have my appointment and then they didn't know if they had a doctors appointment after it. I felt very unsupported by my clinic I have to say. I have also gone to MSI as they seem so compassionate xxx

A week isn’t too long ( I know it seems like a lifetime when you’re going through the turmoil of it - I really can sympathise ) I was made to wait 2.5 weeks . Thank god it was bpas as they only do one consult app . MSI do two which seems really dragged out .
Wishing you all the luck xx

Ahh bless you, it's awful waiting. I had to have a procedure rather than tablet due to how far along I was, my wait was around 2 weeks. I'm glad your partner will be there for you. You will be okay, I was in the same situation as you when I had my termination and honestly, I've never regretted it, it's been 19 years now. I hope it comes soon for you and you're ok Thanks

Thank you so much, the two week wait seems even more traumatic to go through. But you are right when you say that it feels like a life time. I do have covid at the moment so it's making it even harder because I can't go out to do nice things to not think about it xxx

There are reasons to wait! Firstly under a certain amount of weeks it's not an option and secondly its not a fucking take away that you call and its done! It's a medical procedure and needs to be medically handled. OP it will be ok if that is what you want, trust in yourself and your choice.

I had one 6 years ago. I found out on Good Friday and due to all the Easter Bank Holidays and going on holiday I had to wait about 3 weeks. I was on a group holiday and only my partner knew which was so hard.
My partner came to the 1st appointment with me and my sister met me and stayed with me on the day it happened. My over whelming feeling was relief altho for several months I thought about it daily thinking about what life would be like if I had gone ahead with the pregnancy. But gradually those feelings reduced. I find Easter a tricky time but I know I made the right decision .
I hope the time passes quickly for you.

Thank you for sharing your experience and providing me with reassurance. I currently have covid at the moment which is making this 10x harder as I can't go out and do things to distract myself. I know this is going to feel like such a long week for me xxx
