Not sure what the dates are. You have yo have a singleton pregnancy, they scan you. You take a tablet which terminates the embryo. Then you go back 48 hours later and take a 2nd tablet which causes you to labour slightly and pass the embryo out. It is quite painful, you have mild labour ish pains for several hours after the 2nf tablets; you don't stay overnight or need anaesthetic. You might need to be referred by your gp if you want it on the nhs but i believe you can go private.

Hi trying, it's usually given up to 12 weeks of pregnancy for non medical reasons, can be used later for medical reasons. Whether it would be done as outpatient or inpatient also depends on stage of pregnancy. It also depends on whether the NHS or private company by NHS referral are going to be doing it. Have you tried looking at BPAS or similar services?

I would think that you would be best not to go to work after the second tablet until it has completed the process. You will bleed heavily too like a heavy period.

Worth checking with BPAS or similar- I think it has to be quite early- before 8 or 9 weeks. Look up medical abortion on the NHS choices site. It will produce a miscarriage so you will probably want a day or two off work but you could maybe time it so you take it when you aren't working

If your doctor refers you for the termination then get them to sign you off for the period of time you will need. No offence, but you don't want to have to go through this on the floor of the loos at work.
The clinic will be daytime appointments on 2 days, how old is ds and do you have childcare/school for him? I would suggest that on the 2nd day you will need to curl up in bed for several hours with a hot water bottle and wait for it to happen.

If it's your first abortion you generally have to stay in the hospital. If you've had one before they let you go home to miscarry.

Also, there is no way in hell you'll want to do it at work. It's extremely painful and messy xx

As an emergency worker, I have attended numerous people who have called 999 as they were shocked by the amount of blood involved.....I definitely wouldn't try and stay at work.

I disagree. Some clinics (eg calthorpe in Birmingham) don't keep you. They keep you to see you have no reaction to the meds but they don't have beds like a hospital. A surgical abortion takes longer but you are still a day patient. They will most likely give you the tablets and send you home even if it's your first (ime and also a friend who had one a few months ago) - this may vary for different health trusts though.

I'm happy to share my experience. I had the medical (pill) abortion at around nine weeks through BPAS. Had to come back the second day for the second pill, however I would echo PPs who have said you may want to have at least a day off work or have someone with you if possible as it can be quite painful, messy and also want to be comfortable at home afterwards. Recovery overall is quite quick but they do give you plenty of aftercare information on what to do and who to contact if you have any questions or issues. I self referred to BPAS directly and was in within two days at the clinic.

You can have the pill up to 12 weeks. If you are further than 10weeks you have to stay in hospital until everything has passed. You won't be able to go to work and will need someone to look after your son and someone to accompany you home.

Where shouts are you and is the company bpas? If so it's free.

Mine was free/funded by the NHS, of course you have the option to pay but there wasn't really any difference and you can opt to sign a form to not have the termination on certain medical records IIRC. This was in 2011 so not sure if much has changed in terms of the process for an NHS funded termination, but you can ring up BPAS and ask (the helpline staff were incredibly helpful).

In South Wales. The clinic is in cardiff but I don't live in cardiff. Will that matter. Also do I have to be referred by gp? Can I just phone them up myself
