Breastfeeding V's Bottle Feeding

Just being down right nosey now! ....

I have been reading up on the whole breast v's bottle feeding and I personally have decided that I want to bottle feed. Without wanting to turn this into a whole debate on how 'Breast Is Best' I was just wondering what everyone else plans to do when they have their baby? Are you breast or bottle feeding?

y is everyone so sensitive on this subject? i started a similar post last week and got lots of peoples backs up when i only wanted to find out peoples opinions.

I am still undecided, i was planning on bottle feeding altho i am now more on the side of breast feeding to quickly move on to expressing and bottle feeding my breast milk just so my partner can help as it was such hard work last time round.

What made you decide to chose bottle feeding?

why would you choose an inferior product for your child?

some people don't have a choice but to use formula, but i think the vast, vast majority would like to breastfeed becausde it's infinitely better for their child than formula milk

Yes, I am very interested in how other people plan to feed their babies, Just don't want a debate!

I breastfed my DS and am planning on breastfeeding DC2 when he/she arrives. This, however, is my choice and knowing how difficult it can be to breastfeed (found the first couple of months very painful) would never think any less of anyone for choosing to bottlefeed.

It's your child and your decision.

I breast fed DS and intend to breast feed the baby I'm currently pregnant with. To me it's like the difference between home-cooking and processed factory produced food - no contest.

If you try breastfeeding it might suit you and your baby, but you won't know if you don't try. If you try it and can't get on with it or don't like it, then formula feeding is there to use. I would be wary of never trying to bf as you might regret it later on.

Ultimately, whatever you decide it's up to you. Don't let yourself be bullied either way.

I'm breast feeding again. It wouldn't occur to me not to. I just hope it's easier this time round.

Heavens no, you don't want to be eating chemicals - i hear that water for example is dreadful for you

i plan to breastfeed, certainly won't get knickers in a twist if i can't though. Partly because they say its better (although must admit you're meant to eat better during preg than i did) but also because it sounds like a nice bonding thing, and a bit easier (no sterilising, trekking to kitchen at 3am etc).

This will end 45 pages in with some nutjobber quoting huge chunks of anti-formula research likening it to rat poison and 50 women crying into their laptops about how hard breastfeeding was for them.

Inform yourself, keep an open mind, make your own decision when the baby comes and take everything everyone on here says with a pinch of salt.

the baby will have to be exposed to these terrible 'chemicals' some day, you cant breast feed forever, so some day ur gonna just have to give them the factory processed stuff.

babies grow up just fine either way - breast or bottle fed and i completely agree its ur decision so ignore the people who frown upon u for choosing bottle feeding as its not up to them to decide. a happy mummy means a happy baby.

i wish i would hurry up nd decide which im gonna do!

Bottle. Not planning to BF at all and didn't last time. Doesn't seem to have done her any harm .... just answering the OP's question, so here's a pre-emptive for anyone who wants to tell me that some 40 a day smokers live to 120, formula is inferior....

Yummymummy, I do intend to ignore the pro breast feeding army - I personally think that bottle feeding is the right choice for me, if bottle feeding was that bad then they wouldn't make the formula - It would come with a health warning at least! Besides, I have to go back to work soon after my baby is born, I can't take her to work stuck to my boob all day, yes I could sit there when I get home with equipment attached to my breasts like I am milking a cow but I choose to spend that time as quality time with my baby.

Just in response to 'if bottle feeding was that bad then they wouldn't make the formula'- that argument doesn't really tally with cigarettes, alcohol, junk food etc

However, the going back to work point is far more important.

Why make it into such a big decision? Most women I know just start off with the opinion that they will give breast-feeding a go, and if it works out then great, if not, switch to formula with no guilt.

you are obviously not keen on breastfeeding, is it that you want to meet other people who plan to bottle feed? If so, why don't you say so?

Why shouldn't the OP ask the question - If I posted a question asking if people planned to buy a cotbed or a crib it wouldn't be seen as an issue so why can we just ask how people plan to feed.

It's a simple question not an invitation to debate.

In response to the question I plan to breastfeed and it's as much to do with the cost and hassle of formula feeding as the potential benefits for the babay.

I'm going to try breastfeeding. As well as the health benefits it seems like the lazy option (all those who have been there, done that, permission to laugh at me now).

No sterilising, getting up in the night to warm bottles, carrying loads of stuff around. Can't really see the disadvantages to it except working out how I can ever leave the baby and having to do every night feed.

Breast

Reasons = At 4am when baby wakes for yet another feed and I'm barely functional through lack of a decent break between this time and the last time I can just undo my bra and it's sorted

No sterilising

No worrying about taking enough bottles out and about with me, reheating them blah blah

It's free

It helps loads to shift pregnancy weight

Less likelyhood of colic/wind

Last but not least it is better for baby
