Some useful links for all you ladies suffering from SPD/PGP or who think they might be...
www.acpwh.org.uk/docs/ACPWH-PGP_HP.pdf
and the pelvic partnership website is really useful.

If you think you might be suffering then get yourself down to the midwife for a physio referral and hopefully they can help: maternity belt/exercises/acupuncture etc etc.

If you are really struggling then... REST... it is the only thing that REALLY works.

And most important of all plonk (very gently) yourself down on this sofa, help yourself to cake, and get some advice/support from some very loverly ladeez! xxx

Sorry no idea on the meds .

Yes I did get my crutches. They lost the referral (again) and I cried on the phone to everyone possible until they got me an appt that afternoon Blush I'm starting to struggle even with them now though. I was pottering round the house without but I need them in living room (long room ) now. I'm pretty housebound without dh or my Mam. I have to do the school run & kids are pretty good to send in the Co op now& help carry stuff. Kids school trying to get me some local parents to help with next week/2.
Consultant has brought forward my section by a week and keeps writing SPD in huge letters across everything. I had a nightmare with parking last week and kicked up a fuss about the lack of parking near maternity outpatients (3 spaces for ante natal then next car park has 2 flights of stairs to get there or a long walk round the road with no pavements. PALS hasn't got back to me yet though Angry

Oh hello, can I join you?

With DS1 I was fine, had SDP with DS2, was on crutches by 14 weeks with DD.

and am pg with number 4. Am just 9 weeks and I can already feel my pelvis opening when I'm sat down and I already feel like I want to bind my thighs up at night :(

LooL00 · 21/09/2010 14:22

Hi everyone, I was hoping that there was nobody stuck on the sofa at the moment, but there are a few of you. Baby LooL00 is 12w now and I went to the physio for postnatal. i came out all skippy, but within 3 days I'm a bit wobbly round the hips again. She said it would all stay straight eventually but it would take a few months for the hormones to die down. She said i should go to postnatal pilates so i'm starting next week (you use the baby as a weight!).

Not long now nymphadora you WILL feel better as soon as your baby is born. I gave up on the school a week before my baby was born and I left it too late to get crutches as i couldn't cope with the car park at the hospital. i just stayed at home and had the baby at home.
Sorry narmada I don't know about the meds either.
totorosocarina poor you and good luck! maybe it won't get any worse?

ledkr · 21/09/2010 20:07

i may just perch upon the sofa as it is twingeing but not yet full on. Am 21 wks and had it last pg 8 yrs ago. Found the osteopath and accupuncture pricey but good adn was still working and walking at the end.
It twinges when i walk for long and or have a full bladder so am trying to avoid both and also find rest helps.
Anyway hello fellow sufferers it will be nice to have people who understand

Tarajm · 03/10/2010 11:12

Hi Ladies I am 35 weeks pregnant, and had spd in my first pregnancy with my daughter, I had it quite mild. This time around its soooooooooooooo painful. It started about 2 weeks ago so I guess I am one of the lucky ones as it started so late but it?s just so horrid. I am free of pain but come 4pm it strikes and will last until I go to bed. I can not even raise my left leg without flitching with pain. My friend gave me her support belt but I am not sure if this was measured just for her, so have not yet tried it in case it makes it worse. I know I know I should not moan as some people have it all day every day, but it?s really getting me down. Hope everybody else's is not too sore

I'm now 1 week on from my section & walking much better. Still using crutches but more security than essential. Although I've only gone max 200m with them so not aiming high yet.

Looks like it's improving anyway :)

lexxity · 15/10/2010 14:41

Hi all, I'm 34 and 3 and only just found this thread! I started with SPD at 23 weeks but my midwife said to exercise more and not to worry! Eventually took myself off to a drop in clinc who said SPD and PGP and got me referred to the physio. My physio is great, she has had SPD with 2 of her 4 and is so supportive! She's giving me acupunture twice a week and yesterday had crutches delivered to my house. I LOVE her. All on the NHS too. I'm seeing the consultant midwife next week to discuss my options as I'm VBAC due to a breech baba last time! So am a bit scared about the whole labour thing this time. My physio has given me some tips too about labour. (I LOVE HER.)I am hyeprmobile in all my joints, (I think someone else mentioned this) so it's really easy to overdo it and have been told to knock swimming, yoga, walking and using my exercise ball on the head as it's splitting my hips way too much and there's no stability there. I've been signed off work and am bored to tears.
My son is 5 and I'm in the Manchester area.

LooL00 · 18/10/2010 13:22

Hi everyone, just to say I'm fine now and the physio has signed me off. Any remaining stiffness is due to lying on the spd sofa for 5 months. I walk 3 miles a day and can even get out of the bath without swinging on the shower cubicle. Have got tons of exercises to do and postnatal pilates class. DC3 is 15 weeks now.

nymphadora · 18/10/2010 14:23

DD3 is now 11 days old and I have been out without crutches. Not had any signs since day 6 & I walked about 1/2 mile today around town (including a cafe!) I can get out of bed at night and everything.

Just waiting for physio appt and then I think I'll be there :)

ChoChoSan · 19/10/2010 17:23

Hello all, I am just popping in for some advice/reassurance. I have recently developed pains that I have put down to very mild SPD/PGP, but it has occured to me that maybe I am making an incorrect assumption and therefore not bothering the MW, when in fact I should let her know.

I though maybe MN could help confim my symptoms (which I will mention when I next see MW)...I am 25.5 weeks pg with my first and for about a week and a half now I have pain as though I have been kicked in the groin. It's fine when I am sitting, but when I get up/walk it hurts. My fanjo feels quite sore/raw/under pressure, and the very bottom of my bump is beginning to feel sore. Worse when I need a wee.

It doesn't seem to have become any worse since last week, and I don't expect they can do much for the pain, which is manageable, if annoying, at the moment. It is not really noticably more painful if I separate my legs apart. It doesn't get better after a night's sleep.

Any opinions would be welcome - I don't want to ignore something that I should be worried about, just through being too blase!
Thanks!

lexxity · 22/10/2010 14:54

Hi ChoCho, get your midwife to asses you. It sounds similar to how mine started off, so go and get sorted.

It's so fab to read about those who are postnatal and back to normal! I can't wait.

Saw the Consultant Midwife this morning to discuss an elective, I'm VBAC, and seeing the OB a week on Thursday to see about sorting that out or an induction. I actually ended up crying a little bit, because it just hurts sooo much and I can't stand the thought of going one second over my due date, the CM was lovely and really listened and took on board my thoughts and feelings.

LooL00 · 23/10/2010 10:46

Poor you lexxity , I was lucky in that dc3 turned up at 38w, I'd got to the stage where I couldn't even walk around the house. Do not worry, you will feel better once you've had your baby.
Hi chocho I'd ask for a physio referral if I were you, the best thing that can happen is that she assesses you and says it's not spd. If it is you need physio. Most people seem to find that spd improves with rest so maybe you need to consider if you might have something else (as well?).

I'm off to do my postnatal exercises.

lexxity · 26/10/2010 21:04

Baby better hang on, we move house in TWO WEEKS! Talk about timing! Sheesh!

luckykitty · 11/11/2010 12:31

AAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGH! Sad
someone please give me some sympathy.
I am in agony. I have hypermobile joints which have caused no end of problems, im now 32+2 and yesterday when I stood up to get off the bus i had the most intense pain in the front of my pelvis like someone had thrown an axe at me.
I now cant walk with out being in totally crippling pain, as soon as my right foot touches the floor the pain in the front of my pelvis is eye watering.
Have seen 3 physios, a rheumatologist and several crap useless GPs re:pelvic pain but this is unbearable.
Went to GP this morning, it was one I hadnt seen before, only to be told that he had 'no idea at all' what SPD is and that he would have to call the physio and see what she suggests. I thought bugger it i'll do it myself, and shes off till monday. called the other physio and she is also off till monday.
Sorry to rant but it all hurts SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much as I dont even know if it is SPD or not because no one will/can help me.
Total failure. And when I got back from the doctors one of my darling cats had decided to pee in my new handbag.
Please send cake and hugs. x

luckykitty · 12/11/2010 18:54

Its SPD Confused. Bugger.

LooL00 · 13/11/2010 10:30

At least if it's spd luckykitty it should go away pretty quick after you've given birth. Meanwhile you've got to rest rest rest rest. And sitting doesn't count, you've actually got to lie down. And see a physio, get a gym ball, consider crutches and try and put up with it for the next 8 weeks. Mine went as soon as I had dc3. I'm not sitting on the spd sofa anymore, just hanging about scoffing all the cake.

lexxity · 16/11/2010 14:27

Don't get a gymball if you're hypermobile. That made mine 10x worse! Phyios said it's a bad idea too. Lots of cake and sympathy coming your way.

Still sat here, 39 weeks today! Thought waters had gone yesterday but midwife says not. bugger.

HastaLanugo · 24/10/2012 17:56

Hi, there seem to be loads of SPD/PGP threads at the moment, so I am on a mission to drive people back to this central support group. Bring a pillow!

Hello everyone, can I join you?

I am 33 weeks with no2 and over the last 3 weeks have gone from 'Hmmm, my hips have started to hurt a bit at night' to 'OK, I can't really walk'.

Scared myself a couple of nights ago as could not get out of bed, and so am not waiting for referral from midwife but going ahead and seeing a chiropracter today.

Going to read your links today.

Tea and sympathy all round, and patience to all those of you who have toddlers...

question about painkillers I am too scared to take paracetemol to help me sleep as the one time I did it was the time I couldn't get out of bed afterwards - had slept too deeply and clearly not felt the pain signals telling me to move around. Anyone else?
