Some useful links for all you ladies suffering from SPD/PGP or who think they might be...
www.acpwh.org.uk/docs/ACPWH-PGP_HP.pdf
and the pelvic partnership website is really useful.

If you think you might be suffering then get yourself down to the midwife for a physio referral and hopefully they can help: maternity belt/exercises/acupuncture etc etc.

If you are really struggling then... REST... it is the only thing that REALLY works.

And most important of all plonk (very gently) yourself down on this sofa, help yourself to cake, and get some advice/support from some very loverly ladeez! xxx

Hi, can I join. Currently 21 weeks pg with DC4 and have spd/si pain for the third time.

I was on crutches from 16 weeks with DS2, the first time I had spd. Found a fab osteopath with DS3 who kept me off crutches (but not pain free) and have found another for this pregnancy who I just need to call when I feel it getting bad and I can go to her with just a few hours notice as she fits me in between appointments. Still off crutches so far but am getting my support belt delivered on Saturday. And I've only sobbed about three times so far. Anyway, what's my point? That I never found physio any good really and was just insulted by the one I saw the first time I had it (she told me it was my own fault for having pregnancies too close together). I just tell midwives and docs that I have SPD and that I'm dealing with it and am very clear about what I want re labour and birth.

On deliveries, had a waterbirth with DS2, laboured in water with DS3 and gave birth left lateral. Just wasn't possible for me to sit up and push.

It's great that this board is here cos most people just look blank when you try and explain and I'm pretty sure they think it's made up!

Sorry, that was a bit rambling.

Mercedes519 · 24/06/2010 17:52

happy I had it with DS1 and I'm doing it again but No.4 Never mind the SPD! Bet you're still busy though...

I would hope not to have an induction because I'm VBAC and all the research points to intervention, esp induction, as being a factor in problems with subsequent labours. But I want to weigh this up with the fact of being in pain and not hanging around being fat and generally grumpy. But would kind of prefer not to have section as the recovery time is that much longer. Too many variables

Am taking advice on the shouting - that does seem to produce results and my hospital does have a birthing pool so that would appeal.

Ilovegreg thanks for your positive stories. I know what you mean - I still call it SPD as it sounds more medical that 'pelvic girdle pain' which IMHO dumbs it down too much and makes it sound like the odd twinge...

Hi everyone, another hot and sunny day! Can't do ANYTHING today, can't sit, can't get up from sitting can't stand for more than 3 mins and even struggling to get off the toilet. Grim.

happyh your post really cheered me up, I thought I was deluding myself that it would just go away after baby is out (even though I've had it twice before and it has pretty well gone both times, saw physio though after dc2).Funnily enough my spd was not so bad with dc2, I was actually able to get out a bit.

Is it you 2nd merc as if it is and you want to get in the pool go early, I wanted a pool birth with dc2 but she was born within 15 mins of getting to the hosp.if you want a water birth it's best not to make too much of the spd as some people get told they won't be able to get in and out safely. Things like 'spd but coping well' are all you really want on your notes.

welcome ilovegreg sit down on the sofa and have a rest if you've got any time with 3 dc to look after.

Still sending you spdsofatocin contraction thoughts Leoni

driedapricots · 25/06/2010 15:23

aaah..it hurts today! constant dragging/aching pain which gets worse with just putting one foot down on the floor in front of the other so can barely walk. also felt paralysed in the night when attempting to turn over. sod this! i had such a relaxing weekend away and it really helped - literally sat still for 48 hours and didn't lift a thing but since coming back to real lfe (and whinging toddler) it's back with a vengence

LeoniPoni · 25/06/2010 16:38

LooL00 I hope you're feeling a bit better! It's gruesome on the worst days isn't it? The toilet thing gets to me sometimes! I end up daydreaming of catheters so I wouldn't have to face it...

Oh Apricots I feel for you. Try to rest and keep your weight off the pelvic area. We are here to read all your moans so feel free!

I'm bored stiff of being pregnant and in pain now. It's rubbish. I just want my baby here (and off my pelvis) so I can be a mummy and start moving normally again. Grrrrr!

Mercedes519 · 25/06/2010 19:28

Evening all. Jaffa cake for anyone else? Doesn't take the pain away but passes the time while we rest a while.

Well I saw the physio today and she was helpful and fairly positive. I have some muscle strengthening exercises to do and they also run a birth class for PGP ladies so I'm definitely going to sign up for that.

From this thread this would seem to be a positive diagnosis/experience from the medical profession but it helps that round here you can self-refer to physio so don't have to convince anyone apart from the physio themselves!

Did feel the irony of hurrying for the bus (you know that slightly faster shuffle) in order to get to my physio appointment on time though...

Mercedes519 · 25/06/2010 19:30

Oh and looloo this is DC2 but didn't go into labour with first one so I don't know whether this would be like a first or second labour? Any thoughts anyone?

And good point on the notes...I'll bear that in mind when moaning to the midwife!!!

LeoniPoni · 25/06/2010 19:35

Thanks Mercedes!

Well done for managing to shuffle faster for the bus! Not to be sniffed at. Hope the birth class is good and gives you lots of tips!

LooL00 · 26/06/2010 10:52

Feeling a bit better today, have been sitting on 2 huge cushions so it is easier to get up and lying down nearly all the time.Have also discovered that espescially in the kitchen, walking backwards is a better option than constantly turning round for things. I really want this baby to arrive soon but can't face giving birth without a good night's sleep. Too hot and too much weeing to get that.

Really hoping yours will get moving soon leoni.

keep handing round the snacks merc.

driedapricots hope you're a bit better today.

whirleywoo72 · 26/06/2010 20:28

im 28 wks, with my 4th bump, so much pain and living on pain killers diagnosed with spd for 8 wks now, am now on crutches, and getting fitted with a pelvic girdle in 4 wks from the physio, not happy, my hubby has to help me in and out of bath, help me dress, and help me roll over in bed, and 2 wks ago was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and on insulin, xx i cant wait till i give birth xx

Mercedes519 · 27/06/2010 20:14

Oh whirleywoo hang on in there. It seems innately unfair that as well as PGP we are not immune from all the other crap in pregnancy, you'd think someone would have mercy on us.

I'm struggling enough with swollen hands and feet today due to the heat but hey it's an excuse not to move too much!

I'm hoping Leoni is absent is due to something happening...

Hermya321 · 28/06/2010 07:12

ILGH Oh no, not you as well. You poor thing!!! I hope you're ok.

Whirley You poor thing.

I've not been as bad recently, but I visited a friend this weekend who thought it was a good idea to take a pregnant hayfeverish SPD affected lady through a bunch of fields for a walk. I soon asked to be taken back to the car when I saw the fences she started climbing over.

LooL00 · 28/06/2010 10:22

Yes I'm hoping too that things are finally happening for leoni.

Hi everyone and welcome whirley. Glad you've been a bit better herm but remember not to overdo it so that you stay a bit better. merc I've got swollen toes and if this hot weather carries on I think I'll get fat feet pretty soon. I really want to have this babe soon but can't face giving birth in this heat, haven't got the energy for it. I just feel more and more decrepit every week and last week would have been much better, could stand up for a bit and get off a chair without yelping.Off to lie down for a bit, then somehow got to get the washing on the line.

Hermya321 · 28/06/2010 20:17

Thanks LooL00, I'm sorry you've been in pain today.

I think being in the car makes mine worse. I had to do a long car journey today as part of work and thats on top of my normal commute, I'm now sat at home feeling very achey now.

Hope you're all well.

LooL00 · 29/06/2010 14:12

Just popping onto the sofa for a few mins. Too sore to sit at laptop for long. I'm no worse than yesterday at least. Car journeys can be really crap hermya, it's having to be in on postion for too long. I can't even manage 30 mins these days. Hope everyone else is at least ok.

Mercedes519 · 29/06/2010 19:08

Good thing I've brought some more as LooLOO has scoffed all the cake...don't blame you tho as you sound like you're having a time of it.

I've had a fairly good day today, not sure why but its only when I've done something like...stand up or try to walk that its kicked in so all in all well really.

Did see the midwife yesterday but she can't give me a note (want to justify taxis for work) and I have to see the GP to get one. What is people's experience of getting a sick note for SPD? Does the doctor 'get' it?

Still no sign of Leoni - must be a good sign [hmmm]

LooL00 · 30/06/2010 15:10

Baby LooL00 born 2.20am at home. 5 min second stage 9 lbs 6 oz. More later.

Mercedes519 · 30/06/2010 15:36

Wow...congratulations LooLOO...

The first SPD Sofa baby on this new thread. So pleased for you and hope you will be leaping about shortly. And made speculation about induction unnecessary...just how much pineapple did you eat?

Were you planning a home birth?

parkj83 · 30/06/2010 17:03

Hi all, hope everyone's coping ok with the ongoing heat (I personally love it!)

I'm 28+5, and SPD is coping but not fantastic. I've been given all the bands and stuff, but I can't get on with them. The day-time band irritates my belly, and the night-time band is just annoying!

Also, my sleep is getting increasingly disrupted now that bump is becoming more prominent, and rolling over is now an art form. I'd love satin PJs but I have no idea whether they'd be available in my size?! (I'm a 16-18) And also, where can I get one of those big body pillow jobbies from?!

Hermya321 · 30/06/2010 21:21

I've managed to get an appointment with gynie physio on Friday.

What sort of things besides 'I feel like a disgruntled donkey took exception to me' should I be saying/telling her?

Doc says that she's pretty sure it's SPD and from what I've read, I'm guessing the same. I just want to know how to word it properly or would the above do?

LooL00 Congratulations!!!

Mercedes519 · 30/06/2010 21:38

hermya I went to see the physio last week and she asked me questions about where the pain is etc. and then it was taken as read it was PGP. She did poke and prod to see where the inflammation was and whether my hips were straight but it all seemed very routine. Sadly I think it's all too common in us pregnant types

Mercedes519 · 30/06/2010 21:40

park I've heard tell of Asda selling satin pjs and they would do them in all sizes. I'm wearing ones I got from la sense a few years back and they are an 18 I'm pretty sure.
