OH dear, could I really be feeling pregnant less than a week later, or is it all in my head?

Oh dear. Please dont flame me on my slapdash approach, but cant remember for life of me when last period was, though it was less than a month ago.
DH and I had sex on friday night, we did the withdrawal thing, which i know is risky, but thats ok, if i get pregnant its not a disaster.
So for the last few days, ive had a bit of a background sicky feeling, and feel a bit lightheaded, ive felt a little "off." Ive need to go to the loo more and yesteday i did some excercises(usual summer pop belly offensive) - just about fifteen mins of crunches and pilates and when i got up i was dizzy. We went out in the car on sunday and i felt really car sick, though i do get carsick anyway, but this carsickness stayed with me all day and all evening.
Ive had a headache for the last couple of days too. It could be a bug, of course...

I know noone can tell me if im pregnanat, i need to take a test and its too early to do that yet i think. but just wondering if anyone else got symptoms a few days later?
I think with ds2 i did start to feel sick very early on but cant remember how soon...

pop belly should be pot belly.
Forgot to say am also knackered. butthats normal lol.
the other thing is i have period type cramps, which i got with ds1 but not ds2....i thought you only got them with your first? so maybe period is on its way?

Its been less than a week. I would say its a bit early to test or get symptoms.

I used a tesco test yesterday (AF was due yesterday) and the line was very very faint. Got DH to go and get a first response and the line was much clearer.

Probably best to wait a bit before testing as I doubt it would show up yet.

geraldinetheluckygoat · 02/06/2010 09:25

Oh i know its way to early to test! I know it sounds ridiculous too...this would be my third pregnancy so you would think i could be a bit more rational..it is probably a bug or something!

OP posts:
DetectivePotato · 02/06/2010 09:54

I think when you get it into your head that its a possibility you may be pregnant, all rationality goes out of the window.

I went to a kids birthday party on Sunday and a boy had chicken pox. As I have had it twice it turns out I may not be quite immune (according to what I have read online). I was saying to my DH what if I'm pregnant and not immune, we had unprotected sex once this month, took 3 years to conceive DS. DH told me not to be so daft and I wouldn't be pregnant.

Yesterday, 2 BFP!!

geraldinetheluckygoat · 02/06/2010 10:30

yes youre right! I am now attributing everything to pregnancy.
Congratulations on the BFP! Great, it took us nearly 3 years with ds1 and then a month with ds2 so i know what you mean! Isn't it only a problem if you get chicken pox towards the end of the pregnacy as it can be passed on to the baby? I could be wrong, but try not to worry, itll be fine

anyone else have EARLY sypmptoms??

OP posts:
SparkleRainbow · 02/06/2010 11:10

Took over a year to conceive ds, one month for dd1 and first try for dd2, dh most disappointed, especially as had symptoms of early pregancy from next morning! May have been in my head, although I wasn't expecting to get pregnant so quickly, but she still arrived 9 months and 4 days later!

HazB2010 · 02/06/2010 11:28

hello luckygoat
I started feeling sick around 18 May, did a test but showed negative (far too early but I'm impatient!), then had loads of cramping on 24 May (implantation??). Did two positive tests over the weekend and one to make sure today! So yes, def had early symptoms (including thinking I was going to pass out).
Not normally so organised with dates, but about to go to Dr to tell him (it's my first time so a little unsure what to expect), so have just been working it out!
Let me know what happens...

japhrimel · 02/06/2010 11:32

I didn't start to get symptoms till about 2 weeks after conception, and I get symptoms really early compared to most people I know.

Implantation takes place 6-10 days after fertilisation and until that happens, you're not technically pregnant and shouldn't really be affected by the blastocyst (it's not even an embryo at that stage).

So I think you're far too early TBH.

DomesticG0ddess · 02/06/2010 12:00

I had waves of nausea twice this year (had one mc and am currently pg again) way before I did a test. The first times I didn't know I was pg and it happened twice when exercising. The second times, I didn't really expect to be pg having just miscarried, but just over a week later I had a BFP. Both times I would have only been pg for literally a few days, at most a week.

3 years ago when pg with DS I wrote a diary and it says in there that I had sore boobs, some mild nausea before I tested, and I tested 9dpo, so must have had v early symptoms then too!

Mimi1977 · 02/06/2010 13:28

Not too early to get symptoms at all - both of my pregnancies I did from a few days after ovulation (get the pains so I knew). I felt sick, tingly boobs, exercise made me go lightheaded and sick when it never normally did, headaches - none of which I had when my period is due and coming so I just knew I was pregnant from your symptoms. Some people don't get symptoms for a few weeks but that doesn't mean nobody else does.

geraldinetheluckygoat · 02/06/2010 14:30

thanks for the replies everyone. I think that it is either that im pregnant or am in for an almighty period! have period pains and back ache, but I dont usually get them too much before my period. I wish i could remember when my last period was...im so rubbish!!

I know the feeling myself Geraldine. we threw caution to the wind on the 15 May my 40th birthday and used the withdrawal method. I'm due any day now not sure, maybe even a day or two ago as I've only had 2 cycles since I stopped feeding my 9 month old baby I've had the nausea and have a really crampy feeling so am relieved to hear thet implantation occurs 6-10days later so it mightn't be the case for us. When we were trying for ds2 I had pg symptoms every month that were disappointingly not indicators of pgncy so you can definitely convince yourself! My periods are like clockwork so i just hope the delay is due to something else! I cant sleep, would love a 4th baby but we're too cash strapped. I feel a bit silly actually - at 40 really should have known better and i'm still on mat leave.
Let me know how you get on.

geraldinetheluckygoat · 02/06/2010 15:28

well it happens, maybee! Tbh when i told dh last night of my suspicions, he was a little hirrified himself. I just more thing well what will be will be. Im not desperate for another baby but i dont desperately not want one either so im in two minds wether to convince myself that i am or not!

My first sign was getting travel sick on a train, 7 days after dtd. I never usually get travel sick...

Hevster · 02/06/2010 16:50

I had really early symptons with this pregnancy, prob started 5 days before due AF and didn't get positive test until 2 days after AF due

DetectivePotato · 02/06/2010 18:54

Saying about early symptoms. With DS It was about 5-6 weeks before feeling sick, sore boobs etc. Now I'm only 2-3 weeks and I feel slightly sick and today I am shattered! Hope its not the sign of a tough pregnancy. Not with a toddler and the fact that I already have M.E./CFS.

geraldinetheluckygoat · 02/06/2010 19:15

I was like that with my second, detectivepotato, i felt sick very early, earlier than with the first, but it was less severe when it really got going the second time round! i think perhaps you recognise it sooner as you remember it as a symptom of pregnancy from last time.

still no period, but feeling very crampy, and a bit queasy. Have had a headache all day and just feel spaced out....SIGH....we will see.

berrycravings · 02/06/2010 19:22

I'm on my first pregnancy.
I new within the first week that I was pregnant. I was very very tired all the time and I suddenly got really hungry all the time. As I was a sie 6-8 at the time I think my body immediately needed more energy. I hope the wait doesn't drive you too crazy.

Maybee · 03/06/2010 14:04

What is af and bfp? Probably v obvious. I still have no period and the crampy feelings are on and off now! How your body deceives you! I keep feeling little trickles but when I check there's nothing.
I got rid of all my baby stuff a month ago and went to M&S on Sat. to get some decent bras and underwear at last and I'm now thinking oh no I might be back in those big pants and bras again soon! My boobs seem to be firmer again which was always a sign for me. If I'm pg I'm nearly 5 weeks along i'm not feeling sick yet which is reassuring and not too tired yet!

DetectivePotato · 03/06/2010 19:38

Maybee the first time I got pregnant I had just bought 7 new bras that never fitted again. This time I have just bought some lovely size 10 clothes. I should have known.

Trillian42 · 03/06/2010 20:21

My pregnancy was totally unexpected so certainly wasn't on the lookout for symptoms. But looking back, I had symptoms from about a week after I must have conceived. Odd things like suddenly not being able to stand the thing I'd been eating every day for breakfast and the like.

But try not to get your hopes up too much in case, and good luck!

Maybee · 03/06/2010 20:42

Can you exchange your lovely clothes and get some maternity gear Detective? I noted today that big floaty smock like tops seem to be all the rage this summer again, great for hiding bumps!
I still dont know what af and bfp stand for can anyone enlighten me?

oliviacrumble · 03/06/2010 20:45

AF= Auntie Flo/your period

BFP= Big fat positive (pregnancy test)

HTH (hope this helps )

RobynLou · 03/06/2010 20:48

af = autie flo (period)
bfp = big fat positive
