OH dear, could I really be feeling pregnant less than a week later, or is it all in my head?

Oh dear. Please dont flame me on my slapdash approach, but cant remember for life of me when last period was, though it was less than a month ago.
DH and I had sex on friday night, we did the withdrawal thing, which i know is risky, but thats ok, if i get pregnant its not a disaster.
So for the last few days, ive had a bit of a background sicky feeling, and feel a bit lightheaded, ive felt a little "off." Ive need to go to the loo more and yesteday i did some excercises(usual summer pop belly offensive) - just about fifteen mins of crunches and pilates and when i got up i was dizzy. We went out in the car on sunday and i felt really car sick, though i do get carsick anyway, but this carsickness stayed with me all day and all evening.
Ive had a headache for the last couple of days too. It could be a bug, of course...

I know noone can tell me if im pregnanat, i need to take a test and its too early to do that yet i think. but just wondering if anyone else got symptoms a few days later?
I think with ds2 i did start to feel sick very early on but cant remember how soon...

AF still due a visit. Way too terrified to test yet!

geraldinetheluckygoat · 06/06/2010 22:51

maybee have you tested yet?? I got a test today,,,,,and it was negative. Its too early to test anyway i dont know why i did it!!!
I will leave it a week and test again if no af....still cant remember when af was last month...
I have been feeling exhausted and faintly sicky all weekend. but convinced im imagining now so am going to try and get on with life and not think about it! i have been having period style cramps all week...so perhaps AF is on its way....

If it helps, I started getting symptoms NINE DAYS before my period was due! Started feeling a bit odd for a couple of days, like something was different but couldn't pinpoint it, then 7 days before period was due was feeling quite sick, very oddly dizzy and really tired, this got worse all week so I could barely get through the day and kept taking preg tests but it only showed positive on the day my period was due (but then, I did use the cheap ones, so maybe they were less sensitive). I didn't think I would be pregnant as it was our first month of trying, I just thought I was having really bad PMT (I have a history of hormonal issues).

A month later and I had a mc, and am now ttc again and in the week wait time and started getting sicky waves and odd sensations in my groin yesterday...obv. I hope I'm pg, but at the same time I was so rough last time I can't bear to put myself through the agony (although obv the outcome is worth it!).

I think some people are just more sensitive to their hormones/bodies, and unfortunately I'm ultra sensitive.

geraldinetheluckygoat · 07/06/2010 12:27

angels, hope you are pregnant, sounds promising. yeah its horrible feeling so sick, I was very sick with my first too, and it is hard, but as you say, definitely worth it!
Good luck!

Im still the same, i feel tired and slightly sicky, but since negative test yesterday im thinking more mine might be imaninary! thats ok if it is, I would just like to know either way.

OP posts:
angels1 · 07/06/2010 13:03

yes geraldine - it's the wait that's the worst, and I'm such a worrier! Sometimes I think I imagine things and then build them up to be more than they are - I read an article last week saying your body can actually make up symptoms physically when you think you might have something (they used an example of someone thinking they could smell gas and then having all the symptoms of poisoning....then the fear of the poisoning meant the symptoms were copied by others in the building)

Before when I was pg I was on holiday from work, so luckily I could just sit at home and cry alot (not because I didn't want to be pg, but because I kept bursting into tears with my hormones!). I was terribly sick feeling all the time and generally down with other symptoms - could only eat about 3 differetn foods and couldn't let my dh cook anything that smelt vaguely of anything! Couldn't even bear to read my cookbooks (I'm a cook-a-holic and love to read cookbooks!). My constant worry is what I'll do if I'm that bad again, as I work with food - and there's no way I could've done my work last time - even the thought of foods... did you work with your first? if you were really sick etc, how on earth did you cope?

geraldinetheluckygoat · 07/06/2010 13:22

angels, yeah i was a childminder with my first two, it was exhausting, all the bending about and changing nappies really were awful. I also mc with first pregnacy, but wasnt sick with that one, was very very sick with second and third. I just managed to get through it, at twenty four weeks, im generally over the sickness. The second one definitely wasnt as bad sick wise as the first.
I got through it by just taking each day as it came, the lunch boxes used to set me off, as did putting stuff in bin and opening the fridge! at one point, i could only eat tinned tomatoes {grin]. I know what oyu mean about recipe books - food ads on the telly made me sick too! I had to take a couple of days off when I was so sick i brought up blood . I used to go and lay on the bed when the kids were napping and go straight to bed when they left, and spent all weekend in bed!!
I now make cakes for a living so I know what oyu mean, though cake smells are fairly inoffensive i think. you will be ok, you will be able to get through it somehow, i did take some tablets ther first time round which really helped from the docs, though they made me very very tired. the only consolation is that for most people it passes after about three or four months, then you will feel much better...

OP posts:
angels1 · 07/06/2010 13:36

yes, that's what I keep being told - I'll cope because I have to! And I'm sure I will...it just doesn't help at work that I teach cooking...so will have 20 of everything being cooked at the same time and if I get sick the loo is right the other side of school, and I can't exactly be sick in front of the students every time they cook! Plus (and this is a BIG problem) I have a terrible phobia of being sick - I've had it for most of my life and have been seing a therapist for it for about 5 years - I'm not underestimating when I say it ruins my life. I wasn't actually sick last time I was pregnant, just extreme nausea and was nearly sick a few times...but think I managed to fight it off by being able to lie down/avoid the worst situations etc. Anyway, my therapist said if it's that bad again, she'll support me when I see my GP if I need time off work for it..but I don't want that to be necessary.

I have been feeling really off pg-style today/yesterday...I'm hoping I am pg so I'm sick over the summer hols so am away from work! If I am pg, I'll have 5 weeks to endure before being on summer hols...

geraldinetheluckygoat · 07/06/2010 13:43

get some nappy bags - no holes - and find a discreete place to be sick lol!
you have my sympathies, cooking teacher would be hard when suffering with ms.
I have a friend who freaked out when sick, it made her cry and she got very upset (not quite a phobia like yours but she found it very hard), she got ms very badly with her dd, and actually she was just throwing up as a matter of course by the end, it didnt bother her at all as she got so used to it...hopefully this will be the case for you. or even more hopefully you wont get it too bad and wont actually be sick! though i think if you CAN be sick it does make you feel better for a while after...

Re: early symptoms, I have Type 1 diabetes and always KNOW I'm pregnant straight away as my blood sugars rocket immediately...generally I've been on folic acid etc weeks before missed period or pregnancy test!

If the hormones kick in that quickly to cause this effect in me then I think it is entirely possible for other people to have "symptoms" before implantation etc.

angels1 · 07/06/2010 13:52

Yes, thank you for yourthoughts. Sometimes I think the best thing in a way could be that I'm really sick alot and find out maybe it's not as terrible as I think and just get used to it...this could get rid of my phobia..!

I just want the baby without all the pregnancy trauma!!!

geraldinetheluckygoat · 07/06/2010 20:42

yes, the sickness is a horrible part of pregnancy, but you never know, you really might find if you are sick you might just get used to it...it sort of becomes normal, horrid but normal!
aarrgggghhh after all my decisions earlier to forget about it and get on with other stuff, i am totally obsessing about symptoms and have now convinced myself of sore boobs and needing to wee more. Ridiculous...

Hi - progestrone surge following ovulation can cause nausea in some women. I had ghost preg symptoms one month and so did some googling...

rain1014 · 08/06/2010 08:31

Hi,

Ok , I came off implamon after nearly 3 years , as we are now ttc.
I had a normal 28/29 day cycle while on the implamon.
I had it taken out on the first day of my last period. I have one more week to go until my next period, however I really do feel pregnant, by nipples are driving my insane with the tingling, last night I had to sleep with a bra on,
I do feel like Im going to come on and have been cramping for over a week.
Has anyone ever had these symptons and not been pregnant? Im trying so hard not to get excited - but as Im sure you all know its REALY hard.
This could be/is my 4th pregnancy and I have two children already , if I hadnt come off the implamon I would say I was pregnant but Im aware of the possable shift in hormaons.
Please can anyone help but my mind to rest!

geraldinetheluckygoat · 08/06/2010 09:55

Thanks Clareanna, yes sometimes i do feel a bit sick before a period anyway, so that could be why this time.
Im hoping I am pregnant otherwise I am going t obe wondering why I feel so GROTTY! I dont feel so much nauseous as just totally exhausted with a heavy achey head, cramps and little waves of nausea, and noticing smells more. Its not even that I am desperate to be pregnant, though I think that now the thought is there, I am obsessing which can convince you of all sorts of symptoms!!

Rain, its so hard to say. I certainly got cramps with my first pregnancy but didnt notice anything with boobs for any of my pregnancies. I suspect it COULD be hormones settling down, or it COULD be that youre pregnant...
saying that, with my second pregnancy I knew I was pregnant or at least strongly suspected I was as I think you do remember the feeling from last time when it comes back.
None of us are going to know for sure till either a positive test is done or we get our periods, how frustrating!!!

geraldinetheluckygoat · 08/06/2010 13:02

well i just did another test and it was definitely negative, so im going to assume Im NOT PREGNANT!!

OP posts:
angels1 · 08/06/2010 16:37

it's such a whirlwind of emotions this ttc..I never imagined I would feel like this every month - manically symptom spotting and thinking myself into having every symptoms under the sun.

I felt sicky on and off yesterday, but today less so, and I remember last time it was much worse than this at this stage...but I still have a whole 5 days till af due....so staying hopeful, but I think last time I just felt different, it's like I can talk myself into having so many symptoms, but if the feeling of just being pregnant isn't there....is there any hope? and then I still wait in hope.....as until you get af you still might be pregnant.... (

geraldinetheluckygoat · 08/06/2010 18:20

yes there definitely is, as with ds1, it was the first month that I had had absolutely no symptoms whatsoever!! you just never know. I ometimes think it would be better to have all babies accidentally so that you didnt have to go through the 2ww!!!
also, when I was pregnant with ds2, I felt sick one day and not the next and so on till i got the positive test, so I think it does vary day to day...hang in there, theres still hope for you!

OP posts:
rain1014 · 09/06/2010 09:11

When had my two girls and we were not trying, but not doing anything to stop it.

I totaly agree with the "its better to have them accidentally" this waiting is far worse, Ive already tested 5 times!!!!, total crazy women, and Im only 9 days past ovulation.
My nipples are going crazy with the tingling and my husband says that they are bigger,
I also think Im talking myself into having symptoms tho.

geraldinetheluckygoat · 09/06/2010 13:16

well, I just wanted to say I took a test this morning (af due between tomorrow/monday) and it came back with a bfp! I was most suprised..I thought I had been making up all of these odd symptoms in worryness/hope!

Have been feeling sicky on and off....but from memory not as bad in general as last time before I mc so far....so I'm currently in hope that it won't be as bad as last time...I'm not holding out too much hope though as my hormones are supersensitive - I had 3 months of terrible dizziness/headaches all the time just coming off the pill!

still, it's so early maybe i shouldn't get excited, it could all go away tomorrow.
