I've read that it usually starts at around weeks 6-8 and lasts til around weeks 12-14. I'm 5 weeks, my BIL (a nurse) said if I don't have it now I probably won't get it at all. Can you tell me your experiences please

Hi I started MS at 6 weeks, am 12 weeks on weds and not sure if it's easing off or if I'm just controlling it better. Congratulations!

MrsSenior · 24/05/2010 10:06

I'd say don't get your hopes up... everyone's different. Mine started at about 6 weeks and lasted til 11ish. I'd say everyone is different and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that BIL is right, but it's a long shot!!

Congratulations BTW!!

BallpointPen · 24/05/2010 10:07

I found at I was pregnant at about 6 weeks and almost immediately I got morning sickness, I can't remember how long it lasted, it felt at the time like forever, but I can remember laying floor tiles at about 6 months so I can't have felt that bad!

IMO you have every chance of developing morning sickness within the next couple of weeks but fingers crossed you won't, it's horrible!

DuelingFanjo · 24/05/2010 10:26

I had no morning sickness at all and am now in my 11th week. I thin perhaps I am one of the lucky ones.

Jacksmybaby · 24/05/2010 10:35

With DS - 6/7 wks.
This pg - 7/8 wks.

From what I've heard/read, 6-8 weeks is the most usual time to start feeling it, 5 weeks wld def be on the early side.

Drivermamsstorytrain · 24/05/2010 10:38

Just past six weeks 6+3, and am currently on train going home from work as i have developed such bad ms this morning that i cannot bear to be in work any longer. Until today i have been fine.
Fingers crossed for you though.

That's what I thought, I don't mind the nausea if it's fairly easy to control it's just that I have a phobia of vomit, I just hope I'm one of the 2 out of 10 women who don't get it!

Congratulations!!

I started MS at about 7 weeks. It's horrible but you do learn to manage it! I very quickly got to the point where I'd vomit and was able to carry on cleaning/talking/eating seamlessly! You also learn quite quickly what tastes best coming up for the second time!

Jacksmybaby · 24/05/2010 10:45

p.s:
OP maybe your BIL meant hyperemesis (the very severe form of MS) - this often starts earlier than "regular" MS, more like 5 weeks (although have had it myself both times and it didn't start til later as per my previous post).

Pepsiginn · 24/05/2010 10:59

I had morning sickness start at 6+1 and last untill about 13 weeks but i never was physically sick.
I hope you are one of the lucky ones too!

missdt · 24/05/2010 11:29

I started about 6 weeks, right after I'd said 'I'm not going to have morning sickness, it's not for me'. Stopped about 11 weeks, came back for a couple of weeks but not so constant. Just remember that however horrible you feel it's for such a good reason

nunnie · 24/05/2010 11:32

With #1 was 8-9 weeks and lasted till 16 weeks.
With this one 6 weeks and lasted till 13 weeks.

pamplem0usse · 24/05/2010 11:33

I started at 6 weeks and puked pretty much constantly until 16 weeks. Now I'm 27 and it's back...

Kity · 24/05/2010 11:34

First pregnancy, I had hyperemesis that didnt start until 12 weeks (id been complaining I had no symptoms! God I wish Id enjoyed that time more) then went on to be really sick for the rest of the pregnancy.
This pregnancy started at about 8weeks, still very sick but not all consuming like last time and it stopped at around 18 weeks although I still have the odd off day
Really hope you're one of the lucky ones coz its absolutely awful to be sick throughout, only upside was I came out the other side a size smaller than what Id gone in!

RockinSockBunnies · 24/05/2010 11:37

I think my morning sickness started at around 6 weeks. I was sick every day until around 14 weeks. I would also vomit occasionally until 22 weeks whenever I had low blood sugar or was particularly tired.

But it was fairly well timed. I'd get up, eat breakfast, spend 15 minutes being sick and then feel fairly ok until the evening.

DomesticG0ddess · 24/05/2010 12:28

Between 6 and 7 weeks.

Podpod · 24/05/2010 12:36

Oh dear... I seem to be abnormally early with the morning sickness...

First time round, and it started 4.5 weeks in with nausea... Actual sickness has officially kicked in at the start of the 5th week...

I know that this is supposed to be a sign of good, strong hormones... But this feels a bit early???

Hopefully it ends a bit early too.....

arabellaandbaby · 24/05/2010 13:42

I had morning sickness from week 6 to week 23... but it didn't stop there. I still had to have the occasional sickness every so often although not as bad as the early months. I even had to throw up once more shortly after DD's birth!

Fingers crossed yours is not as bad as mine.

cinnamongreyhound · 24/05/2010 14:00

5 weeks with both pregnancies, with first it stopped at exactly 13 weeks but this time it carried on daily until 16 weeks and I am still sick about once a week and I am almost 26 weeks

Hope you manage to avoid it!

umf · 24/05/2010 14:05

Felt poorly from 4 weeks, ms kicked in properly at 6 weeks, lasted until 13 weeks.

Don't think your BiL is right, sadly. And no reason why he should be - medics v uninterested in ms except hyperemesis. Even midwives don't normally meet pg women until end of first trimester, when worst of ms usually over.

GetThePartyStarted · 24/05/2010 14:06

I started being sick at about 6weeks, didn't know I was pregnant mind you, so thought DP had given me food poisoning three times

Unfortuntely I was really sick to about 28 weeks when the sickness eased but I still couldn't really eat much. As a bonus/compensation though I weighed less than my pre pregnancy weight just before I gave birth to DS so had no pregnancy weight to lose!!!

emmyloo2 · 24/05/2010 14:40

Started around 5-6 weeks and still have a little bit and I am almost 16 weeks. It eased off significantly at about 14 weeks though. I haven't vomitted the entire time but the nausea - dear god. I thought I was going to die. Now it's bad if I travel lots or am tired.

Nothing really seemed to help my nausea other than eating only small amounts. Lemon juice was also good.

Xavielli · 24/05/2010 14:51

I'm 17 weeks with DC3 and have never had morning sickness. I started feeling queasy at around 8 weeks and it eased off by 13 weeks.

websticks · 24/05/2010 18:58

I had really sore boobs and had really bad nausea a week before i missed my period, i knew i was preg because of this before i did the test
