Hi All, I've literally just found out that I am about 6 months pregnant and we had absolutely no idea! I've had no symptoms or morning sickness or anything. Also I've not really felt the baby move or anything....
We have an appointment to see the midwife tomorrow followed by a scan on Monday. But still a bit worried about both the baby and myself.
Does anyone have any advice or prior experience that might help me??
Chelle.

Congratualtions No experience sorry, I always know before a test does! That must be quite a shock for you! I'm sure the baby will be fine...I didn't feel 1st baby move until after a good 6 months

cluelessnchaos · 20/05/2010 20:19

Hey chelle, my first daughter was first seen onscreen at the scan when she was 24 weeks, I was 19 at the time so I think I was kidding myself, the day after the scan my size eight jeans were swapped for maternity clothes on a positive you don't have months to wait, baby was fine and is now a strapping nearly thirteen year old, she is very fit and healthy, btw congratulations

Seqqy · 20/05/2010 20:21

Wow, I have no clue but that is fab news, congratulations!
I do know it happened to my freind but she thought it was irregular cycles...

booyhoo · 20/05/2010 20:23

congratulations.

a friend of mine discovered at 7.5 months that she was going to be a mummy. she was a size 10 and no bump at all.(the bump did arrive with a vengeance once it was discovered though) cue mad panic to get lots of baby stuff. but she gave birth to a lovely healthy full term baby boy.

good luck. i am sure all will be fine tomorrow.

Chelle1986 · 20/05/2010 20:26

Well I've got polycystic ovaries - so therefore I didn't panic about not having a period for a while as its quite normal for me! Just such a shock to go for a routine check up and be told you could be as far as 6 months gone! I really had absolutely NO IDEA! I just can't let myself be happy until I know we are both ok....

I'm nearly 24 myself. A bit overweight, which I hope won't go against me - just really want everything to be ok - as is my first baby.

C.xx

chelle my friend also had problems with irregular cycles so didnt suspect anything when she had no period for 7 months.

MammyG · 20/05/2010 20:45

you will hear stories from hundreds of mums (me included) who smoked, had mad nights out, ate all kinds of stuff etc before they found out they were pregnant. Dont worry. All will be well and on the plus side you have skipped ahead! With no morning sickness! so one thing you can be sure of is that this will be one relaxed baby because you havent spent months strung out sick and worrying! Plus you still have plenty of time to get organised. Enjoy!!

cfc · 20/05/2010 21:26

My lovely sis had PCOS and didn't miss any periods as she didn't have any so didn't realise she was 5 months gone!

I took her for a private scan to put her mind at ease somewhat as she couldn't get a scan for a little while and she's impatient and worried, for all the reasons you are right now too.

My sis had mad nights out (very mad) and all is well so far with the LO who turned out to be the light of all our lives, even though she shock at the beginning was hard on us all, for various reasons.

You can't change what is done. Take care of yourselves from now on in and be happy, as my sis was, that you don't have too long to wait!

Congratulations my love!

cluelessnchaos · 21/05/2010 09:29

How are you today chelle? Your lo will be fine and you still have time to prepare another friend of mine knew she was pregnant didnt tell anyone until she actually went into labour, she didnt have a midwife appointment, see a doctor or tell her parents, all resulted in a healthy baby, good luck at the midwives.

Superfly · 21/05/2010 09:37

Hi Chelle - a friend of mine first found out she was pregnant at 24 weeks (at the age of 45!) Of course she went through exactly all the same worries that you are going through now.

She now has a healthy happy 4 year old!

Many congrats to you x

BrokenBananaTantrum · 21/05/2010 09:44

Morning Chelle. My SIL didn't discover she was pregnant until about 6 months. She could feel the baby starting to move around and her tummy felt strange and she was convinced she had cancer or some serious problem so delayed going to the doctors.

She had had some very wild nights out drinking etc but baby was absolutly fine and is now a beautiful and healthy 20 year old

Chelle1986 · 21/05/2010 10:25

Thanks everyone. I just sat waiting for Lee to come home and then we are off to the midwife....wish me luck.

Am hoping that if I make enough fuss she will call the hospital and make them do my scan today too! At least then I can enjoy my weekend! The fact that I'm not sleeping, eating properly and am petrified should hopefully be enough!

Wow! Congratulations

What a lovely surprise.

DomesticG0ddess · 21/05/2010 11:22

OMG, that is incredible, I hope your appointment goes well. I can't believe they would not whisk you off for a scan straight away - yes, make them do it today!

Loujalou · 21/05/2010 11:28

The same happened to my mum. She smoked 40ish per day and had been ill so wasn't worried about lack of periods. I think she was in denial as she was told not to have any more kids for her health.

This surprise is my little brother and he is 22 and functioning fine.

Loujalou · 21/05/2010 11:29

Congratulations by the way

weegiemum · 21/05/2010 11:43

Congrats!!!

I missed the first 3 months with dd2 (think I might have noticed as I'd done it rwice already!!!) - thought I had a tummy bug, etc etc.

Was 13-14 weeks when I found out.

It did make for a nice, short pregnancy

(I had a mirena coil in, that's why I didn't suspect as I wasn't having periods!)

All the best!

arsesandoldlace · 21/05/2010 11:44

Wow congratulations!

You may not realise it but you're very lucky in your situation.

Because essentially, you only have a 3 month pregancy (that you're aware of). Much less time to wait than us early testers who know 2 weeks post-conception.

I'm quite jealous! Good luck and I really hope the rest of your pregnancy is as trouble free as the first 6 months.

PrivetDancer · 21/05/2010 11:50

ooh how exciting
I hope everything goes well at the scan, perhaps the midwife will be able to find the heartbeat for you. Of course you might not be that far along at all if you can't tell from your periods, so don't be too disappointed if you find out you're only 8 weeks gone or something and have a loooong way to wait!

WickedWitchSouthWest · 21/05/2010 11:55

Wow! Congratulations Hope all is well and look forward to an update! Ditto arsesandoldlace, I knew very early too and consequently have been pregnant forever!

Chelle1986 · 22/05/2010 11:11

Thanks everyone for the advice. Good news from the midwife - she found a really strong heartbeat and we were able to listen to it too! So just the scan to get through on Monday - fingers crossed!

She also thinks I'm about 26 weeks! Argh!!

Trillian42 · 22/05/2010 11:23

Wow! No experience to share, but wanted to say congratulations! My little kicker was so active from 20 weeks that if I hadn't known I was pregnant, I would have been worried an alien lifeform had taken over my body

26 weeks means only 14 to go! The best of luck with the scan and congrats again

sophiejoandbump · 22/05/2010 13:15

hi I am just having a nosey, I gave birth 12 weeks ago. I didnt find out untill I was 20 weeks, so not quite as long but I had absolutly no idea... I was on the pill, I was still bleeding, there was no morning sickness. I had a few headachs but didnt think anything of it. I did have a bit of heart burn but that wasnt untill I was about 25 weeks.
I was worried at first because I hadnt felt him move and I hadnt taken folic acid ect, and I wasnt on the best diet ever. I was also still at school.
i
I stopped going to school and concentrated on getting everything ready for the baby, and being relaxed as I am sure the stress was no good My baby was perfectly fine hope you are okay and all goes well...it just means that the pregnancy goes faster and you dont have to wait so long for your baby.
good luck
x

vmcd28 · 22/05/2010 17:38

WOW, congratulations! I know you're worried, but I'm jealous!!
With my DS, I found the pregnancy seemed to last 2 years!
Stupid question, I know, but how does the midwife know you are roughly 26 weeks?

whomovedmychocolate · 22/05/2010 17:43

Bloody hell that must have been a shock!

Congratulations of course, but wow that must have hit you like a truck!

How lovely though if you didn't think you could conceive.

On a practical note, if your pregnancy has survived this long, things are probably absolutely fine. And fingers crossed it's not twins!
