Hi,
I am 6weeks and 4 days pregnant and have really gone off chocolate. The look, smell or even talking about it makes me want to be sick, ( before i was pregnant i was a chocoholic lol) now i cant stand the stuff

Just for fun i was wondering if anyone else has really gone off something they previously loved?

It's not just you! I sat down to my favourite lunch of scrambled eggs on toast the other day - then felt sick just for the smell of it and had to force myself to finish it!
I am not a fussy eater at all, but now I find that I only want bland foods, like chips or pancakes. Very healthy - not!

Hevster · 06/05/2010 17:04

i get the urge to eat things i don't normally like such as Jaffa Cakes

lucykate · 06/05/2010 17:34

red wine. used to drink it before being pg with dd, that was 8 years ago, not touched it since

ellabella2 · 06/05/2010 17:36

I too went right off chocolate as well as olives, tea and coffee. In fact I lost my appetite for most things between weeks 7 - 12.

I'm now nearly 18 weeks and have my appetite back for pretty much everything No strange cravings as such yet though!

Xavielli · 06/05/2010 18:15

No tea, really have to be in the mood for choc.

notnowdave · 06/05/2010 18:17

I WISH so much I had gone off the following:

Chocolate
Bread
Coca-Cola
Alcohol

I am consuming the first 3 in abundance but could murder a G&T...

OTTMummA · 06/05/2010 18:58

i couldn't eat anything hot after 25 weeks, i had to let everything go cold before i ate or drank it!

redandyellowandpinkandgreen · 06/05/2010 19:54

I would buy things, or plan what we were having for tea and then look at it in the fridge and not be able to face it, I threw out loads of food. Stuff I liked one day I wouldn't be able to eat the next. So I started freezing a lot so it wouldn't matter if my funny food thing kicked in.

Seems to have settled now though!

Nymphadora · 06/05/2010 20:00

I like onions , tomatos and chillies. That's it everything else tastes wrong. That was how I knew I was pg

bluepanda · 06/05/2010 22:41

I'm sorry to share this with you...but I went of chocolate violently during my first pregnancy and two yrs on can no longer bear the smell or taste of it. Have even gone to the lengths of getting pg again in bid to reverse effect, but no luck

websticks · 07/05/2010 17:56

Bluepanda
That sounds great to me, as chocolate was my weakness. and kept them extra pounds on. so if i went off it permanatly i could lose those extra pounds after the birth lol

I went off chocolate, pasta and meat.

now 32 wks and slowly back on pasta again but only spagetti, none of the other types and as for meat im still not fussed i'll eat it if i dont smell it cooking.

still not eating too much chocolate wise and defintely not eating the stuff I use to eat(kit-kats aeros).
I can just about manage a mini bag of malteasers and thats about it.

mum2oneloudbaby · 07/05/2010 20:57

tea, coffee, olives, meat unless it's already cooked even then not that fussed. yoghurts for a while but that seems to be coming back.

in fact i've turned into my 2yo and really just want to eat pasta and chocolate

Gmakes3 · 07/05/2010 21:17

Tea, took 3 years to drink it again. Avacado

vix206 · 08/05/2010 11:49

Yep, I went off avocado (previously my favourite food!), rocket and (strangely) all Thai food. It lasted until around 15 weeks and now I can eat all of the above although not with the enjoyment I used to have. I'm 26 weeks at the moment.

munchkinland · 08/05/2010 13:14

I went off Indian food wih DC1, aftee 4 years I could finally face a dry curry (Tikka or Shashlik) again, but now 29 +4 with DC2 and totally off it again :-(
I now like yoghurt though which I have hated my whole life!!

vmcd28 · 08/05/2010 14:33

I hate even the smell of tea now, even tho I drank loads of it before. Ditto to Diet Coke. I've had one glass in the past 8 weeks, but didnt even enjoy that. I used to drink it all day long. I started drinking bottled water by the pint, but I have NEVER been a fan of drinking water, so my body clearly needed it.

My chocolate appetite is returning, but I hated it for a few weeks, which was annoying over Easter...

I could happily eat Salt and Vinegar crisps all day, cheddar cheese, and crispy shreeded beef from the Chinese...! Toast and bagels are good too, but I struggle to want anything else.

And fresh orange juice, I could drink gallons of it. But dont.

apologies for the double post. Why that happened is anyone's guess...

Sarahlou8 · 08/05/2010 18:17

I can't drink tea, I can't eat chocolate and can't eat carrots, they taste of metal!!

I can eat crisps by the bucketload though!

alannabanana · 08/05/2010 23:25

the tea and chocolate thing must be caffine related - like your body's way of rejecting harmful toxins by putting you of it. i did go off tea in the 1st trimster, back on it now though, and still can't bear taste of real coffee, though will happily neck a decaff.
defo meat as well - i can eat meat but only in small doses and sometimes it tastes awful - like vomity awful!
a really weird one is onions - i LOVE onions - cook with them all the time - but since getting pg i can't stomach the taste or smell and can pick up on even the smallest amount in a meal, and it tastes gross! can't figure out what componant there is in onions that my body would want to repel like caffine or alcohol, but there it is. am almost through pregnancy now though so hopefully i can go back to burgers with fried onions soon!
