Two questions - Where are the normal maternity swimming costumes and who wears the t-shirts with '....my bump'?

Been all over today looking for a costume & can't find one. want to try it on as I seem to have gone down a size as well as developing a bump.

And why are the shops(well actually New Look as its the only one selling Mat clothes here) full of t-shirts saying 'hands off my bump' 'I heart my bump' etc?

Sorry I've no advice to offer re swimming costumes but would love to find one too. Just wanted to say I hate tops with slogans on with a passion and maternity ones are no exception (((barf)))

sunshiney · 04/05/2010 14:08

I found a good swimming costume at H&M, it was a tank top thing and bikini bottoms.

not sure if they do online shopping or not though.

Nymphadora · 04/05/2010 14:09

I saw the most disgusting costume yesterday - orange and red flowered

I got a one piece swimming costume from John Lewis quite recently. I also think that places like JoJo Maman Bebe and Mothercare do them to.

Can't answer your second question I'm afraid. I've always wondered the same thing!

sunshiney · 04/05/2010 14:10

haha just to clarify it was indeed in their maternity range.

those slogan maternity shirts make me want to hurl too.

milkmoustache · 04/05/2010 14:10

Blooming Marvellous worth a look, possibly figleaves too if you are feeling flush!

Nymphadora · 04/05/2010 14:11

How do I get round the trying on thing?

"Does my bump look big in this?" - yes!

nunnie · 04/05/2010 14:21

I am not a fan of slogan tops, but each to their own. I did find new look had far too many though, all I wanted was plain t-shirts I ended up buying normal t-shirts from next in bigger sizes to be honest as slogan tops and jeans are what the majority of shops sell round here.

As for costumes Nike and speedo do some nice plain swimsuits.

FlowerBee · 04/05/2010 14:25

I got a plain boring black one from Mothercare for swimming in my local pool and i also got a black slightly more sophisticated all-in-one from H and M for my hols in Mauritius.

LooL00 · 04/05/2010 14:28

asda has some online. maybe in store too?

sayanything · 04/05/2010 14:29

Gap does fantastic T-shirts - not maternity ones, but stretchy and long enough to fit over bumps. I bought a pile of them last week (I'm 26wks).

Nymphadora · 04/05/2010 14:29

I don't know what size to get!

Though we are in Glasgow at the weekend there must be somewhere there!

I got a decent costume from ebay.

I was bought a 'hands off the bump' t-shirt. Ironically it doesn't fit round the bump.

moonstorm · 04/05/2010 15:38

I got the black mothercare one as well. The also have them in Next. One of the Mothercare ones was rather cheap and I didn't want to spend too much.

MumNWLondon · 04/05/2010 16:04

I bought mine (swimming costume) in mamanjojobebe and it is great.

the next one turned out to be useless as my breasts got too big (only around 36c) and it became indecent.

problem with trying on is its impossible to know if it will fit you in 3 weeks let alone 13!

mtor · 04/05/2010 16:20

I just wore a bikini. I wouldn't normally wear one but seemed the most practical solution.

Nymphadora · 04/05/2010 16:32

If it fits me now that would do. I wanted to go to aquanatal tonight!

I bought a really cheap boring black swimming costume from mothercare and it does the job. All the other shops seem to be full of summery tankinis which are fine if you want one for chilling on the beach on holiday, but useless if you want one for swimming in a pool because they don't stay over the bump when you get in the water!

Cejay8 · 04/05/2010 17:41

I bought a black maternity swimming costume from Next - I've been wearing it twice a week since about week 22 (now 36 weeks) - would definately recommend - it was relatively inexpensive too.

Nymphadora · 04/05/2010 18:17

No chance of a bikini in public! My stretch marks from the other two killed that idea a long time ago!

For a swimsuit I think Next and Mothercare are quite good - also Asda online do them.

As for slogan t-shirts, I have a Mr Bump one that says 'Mind The Bump' - my ds picked it as he absolutely adores Mr Men - he's nearly 4yo Bless him. I would normally stick to plain tops and accessorize them

Otherwise - yes I'm with on the slogan hating thing.

beanlet · 04/05/2010 19:40

John Lewis, although our local shop seems to only sell one type of one-piece. I've been wearing mine for about 3 months now; 2 months to go and there's still plenty of room. As long as you don't mind looking like a blue spotty easter egg!

firsttimer78 · 04/05/2010 19:55

I got a pink spotty tankini from mothercare, £24. V comfy but haven't quite managed to get my arse off the sofa to try it out in a pool!

jennimoo · 04/05/2010 20:55

I've ordered a tankini set from blooming marvellous, and keeping fingers crossed it fits!

I'm tempted to get a ... The bump tshirt for when I go to the IOW festival, in the hope it will stop people pushing and shoving me, although may be I'm bring optimistic!
