Two questions - Where are the normal maternity swimming costumes and who wears the t-shirts with '....my bump'?

Been all over today looking for a costume & can't find one. want to try it on as I seem to have gone down a size as well as developing a bump.

And why are the shops(well actually New Look as its the only one selling Mat clothes here) full of t-shirts saying 'hands off my bump' 'I heart my bump' etc?

I bought a normal Triumph tankini in a size up from normal - did me unti I stopped tsking DS swimming at 34 weeks.

gingerkirsty · 04/05/2010 21:11

What about this from New Look - I had the same style in blue when I was pg, very flattering and comfy. I bought a 12 (my normal size) and a 14 to try on due to large norkage but the 12 fitted perfectly so I'd say they are reasonably roomy. You might want to order your own size and the size down? You can return for free in store so might as well IYSWIM!

cyanarasamba · 04/05/2010 21:29

Primarni have great very long stretchy (non-maternity) t-shirts for £2. I got white, grey and brown in round and v-neck, 2 sizes bigger than normal.

Maclaren · 04/05/2010 21:39

I bought a really lovely one from M&S today - Its not maternity but just got a size up here it looks like a two piece but has a secret messy to hold everything in place lol!

cinnamongreyhound · 04/05/2010 21:50

I've seen them in next and jojo mamen bebe but not tried any as I'm not really big enough yet.

I have the same Mind the Bump T-shirt as CherryPie3 but I only wear it for antenatal yoga.

If you're not sure about size, order a few online and send back those that don't fit. If you've gone down a size then order that size, maternity clothes usually are bought in the size you were before you got pregnant. Good luck!

George at asda online do tankinis and swimming costumes for under £16. they have free delivery at the mo.

I dont get the slogans either. I did buy one that said Made in England but it was reduced to a £1 and I wear it to slob in at home

This drives me more and more insane with each pregnancy. Why do the designers think that when we are pregnant we want to wear different clothes to when we are not pregnant? Why for example can they not just recreate their normal range in maternity? Why does it all become about flowers and looking like your gran?

giddywithglee · 05/05/2010 09:37

Jojo Maman Bebe does swimming cossies and tankinis.

dolphina78 · 05/05/2010 11:47

I saw a nice tankini type thing in BonMarche of all places, don't think it was maternity, but had a long loose/flappy front to it to cover the bump!

Bluesunday · 05/05/2010 14:29

I really, really wanted an "I heart my bump" t-shirt just so people would know I was pregnant and not been at the doughnuts. Couldn't get my boobs in it though (perhaps that's for the best).
Agree with Peppapig... I HATE all maternity clothes, with the exception of Next. I am currently rotating two dresses from there, which I will probably have to live in until they fall to rags. Who designs maternity wear??? I'm only 15 weeks, but I'm already a seacow, and all I can find in the shops are MATERNITY MINI SKIRTS?????!!!!!! MATERNITY SKINNY JEANS????!!!!! I couldn't wear that sort of stuff before - and why are all maternity dresses sleeveless? Must I inflict my bingo wings on the public? I have tried Topshop, New Look, Very, ASOS, Mothercare, all horrible, horrible. I just want something stylish, chic and comfortable, why is that so hard to find?
Sorry for hi-jacking this thread! Having a fat day today is my excuse

Shaz10 · 05/05/2010 14:31

I bought my maternity swimming costume from Intersport.

sxikaylibby · 05/05/2010 17:13

duno bout the cozzi but I

Chynah · 05/05/2010 17:48

Buesunday - you will not believe how long I spent trying to find a short maternity skirt! I obviously shop in the wrong places !

jbakedbean · 09/05/2010 21:55

my friend bought me a PINK " hands off my bump" new look t shirt" !!!!!! wondered if they knew me at all and it is tucked firmly at the back of the cupboard. keep trying to think of a time when i could wear it so I don't offend them but think it would be offensive to wear full stop.

take my 1yr old to waterbabies everyweek and it has wrecked my costume with all the velcro so need a new mat one to cope with dc2 who is growing rapidly or is that just me and my love of icecream?

trying to look good when heavily pregnant in lycra is nigh on impossible. good luck to you all x

Beegey · 10/05/2010 09:50

Topshop have what looks like a pretty floral swim suit in their maternity range. Though of course, not for one who doesn't do flowers...

What bugs me is the amount of strapless maternity wear available. I quite fancy a boldly patterned maxi dress but, woah, wear are my knockers supposed to go?!

Grumph...

lilmissmummy · 10/05/2010 11:01

I seriously need maternity clothes but cant find anything I like. I am on number 3 so I am huge at 16 weeks and I just want to look like a normal person hiding a beachball up her top. I dont want to look like my Grandma or wear clothes similar to my 5 year old daughter! So at the moment I am living in 6 year old maternity jeans that are too big and dh rugby tops

Please direct me to normal clothes! RE: swimming costumes saw a very nice plain black flattering one in Mothercare.

ps. cant bear the bump t-shirts. I would rather people thought I was fat!

Nymphadora · 10/05/2010 11:20

I went all round Glasgow.

1 swimming costume all spotty and £30 awful so have give in and ordered online.

Biggest maternity section I found was 3 racks in Debenhams including a lacy (see though) dress/top

Am now looking for a cardy. Tried a couple on but they didn't go round my bump any better than the non-mat one. I'm 16 weeks , what about the other 24

Thanks Nymph I will have a look in Debenhams see if there is anything I like there!

If I find anything I will let you know!

MrsC2010 · 10/05/2010 11:35

Gap have some awesome maternity t-shirts in at the moment. About £8 each and they wash really well...can't remember what colours but I bought white and black. How dull! They have quite a few nice bits in at the moment, I have a couple of pairs of jeans from there as well.

Nymphadora · 10/05/2010 11:58

I was looking for black ones in Gap but they only had white. They had some nice t-shirts with things on but v expensive.

I saw stuff in H&M , Dotty Ps , next and New Look but nothing much stood out.
