When did you start feeling sick (if ever?)

Hi

Not that I am actively wishing to be sick or anything, the opposite in fact, but I am amazed that at 6 weeks my appetite is still fine. Normally, when not pregnant I get sick really easily. Like, I get sick and retchy when I have a snotty cold, or a bad hangover, or even when I am physically shattered, or have exercised too hard.

Anyway, was wondering at how many weeks in people here started to feel sick? And stopped feeling sick? And is it true that only 50% of women experience nausea? I was under the impression that the figure was higher...

Around 6/7 weeks. I was never actually sick, just felt sick all the time and really tired.

Allegrogirl · 21/04/2010 14:25

I felt sick at 5 weeks constantly until 15 weeks. Lots of nausea and retching but little actual vomit (sorry if tmi). Still feel nausea on and off now at 22 weeks. Only eating lots makes it better. Nothing wrong with my appetite!!

I thought that it was 70-80% felt some sort or nausea or sickness. You might just be one of the lucky ones.

Jacksmybaby · 21/04/2010 14:26

Not to worry you but I think it's unusual to feel sick as early as 6 wks.

Also not to alarm you unduly but if you are prone to sickness generally esp travel sickness you are more likely to suffer from it in pg.

I was 7 wks with 1st pg, 8 wks with 2nd. 1st pg - continued all the way through (on anti-nausea drugs from 15 wks which reduced it to just about manageable levels), am 15 wks in to 2nd pg and just on the drugs again so we will see how it goes!

You might be lucky though - here's hoping!

nunnie · 21/04/2010 14:28

Arund 8 weeks with 1st, and around 6 weeks with this one.

nunnie · 21/04/2010 14:32

All the pregnancy books I have read have suggested 6 weeks is fairly normal for nausea some people get it later and some people don't get it at all.

sharbie · 21/04/2010 14:35

ugh 6/7 weeks with both and went on for ages till about 6 months - lots of sick as well.
Def worse 2nd time around.I used to have a drawerful of opal fruits and pastilles at work.Oh happy days.

2ndDestiny · 21/04/2010 14:41

With this pregnancy, a few waves of nausea at 4 weeks but it wasn't constant until almost 6 weeks, I think - even then it fluctuated from mild to very very retchy (but no actual puking), and lasted until about 15 weeks

nubbins · 21/04/2010 14:42

Feeling sick was one of my first signs of pregnancy with both my girls, but this pregnancy I didn't start feeling sick till 8 weeks or so and it wasn't as bad, and it's a boy.

Ladyemmalou83 · 21/04/2010 15:19

I started to feel sick from 7 weeks onwards, and at 31 weeks am still being sick, but I do have HG so that explains that one.

good luck with your pregnancy

missdt · 21/04/2010 15:33

About 6/7 weeks. Same as franke, no actual sick just constantly feeling sick and so tired. There is something reassuring about it though, like it means things are working, so it's not all bad.

tablefor3 · 21/04/2010 15:34

No sickness at all with DC1 and none so far (13wks) with this one. Don;t know about 50%, but 3 out of 10 of my antenatal classes had no nausea at all.

Hope it continues for both of us!

doughnutty · 21/04/2010 15:39

From 5 weeks till 40+8 weeks.

Sorry

MyMamaToldMe · 21/04/2010 15:41

From Week 7 for 10 weeks and it was horrible. Put me right off food for my entire pregnancy.

ConnorTraceptive · 21/04/2010 15:42

same as doughnutty

Kittykatzen · 21/04/2010 16:09

I felt sick for about a week before I even found out I was pregnant! It didn't seriously kick in until 5 weeks though, and from 6 weeks I have had nausea just about constantly (only vomiting though when I brush my teeth - nice!). I am always travel sick in the car so I wasn't surprised. Had my scan today, 8 weeks and all looking great!

Miffster · 21/04/2010 16:13

Thanks for all the replies. I am convinced the longer it goes without feeling sick that I am going to start puking everywhere like the girl out of the Exorcist soon. Other signs are all there: boobs going from an A cup to a DD, wanting to be falling asleep all the time, randomly wanting to eat horseradish sauce for breakfast, crying at bluetits making nests, going PMT-psycho with rage at utterly pointless things, etc etc.

We shall see. I don't know how those who work and commute cope with nausea and sickness all the time, and am in awe (and fear of how I'll cope). I'm off work on holiday this week and all I want to do is flump about the house and sleep and read, instead of go on lovely walks/cinema/out to dinner etc (*was suppoosed to be in Tunisia with DH TTC - heh, the volcano and getting knocked up early did for that plan). Am knackered and I'm only just pg...maybe it's being 39?

Ds 1 and Ds 2 about w 6, bad sickness until about w 16 and nausea throughout. Now w 6 with no 3 and not as bad. Kind of making me worried as I expected to feel awful. Maybe girl. Rather than being grateful it's actually freaking me out a bit....

beanlet · 21/04/2010 16:44

Never. Not everyone gets morning sickness :-) (OK, I was sick once, can't remember exactly when, but it was because I was really hungry.) Don't worry if it doesn't happen to you -- rejoice!

APassionateWoman · 21/04/2010 16:45

5 weeks with no.1, 6/7 weeks with no.2

hellymelly · 21/04/2010 16:46

six weeks.I remember the first wave of nausea,we were at a friend's house in Sweden and it was a looooong time before I could even think of their (beautiful!)house without feeling sick.

Mimi1977 · 21/04/2010 17:01

Absolutely nothing to worry about so please ignore those who say it is! Most of my friends from my NCT class for my first child(8 of us) there were only 2 of us who had bad morning sickness. A couple never had any. Make the most of it!!

DillyDora · 21/04/2010 17:01

That's so weird, I felt so so sick most of the time until about 11 or 12 weeks but I have no memory of when it began, very early on I think! It started at odd times and just got more and more constant throughout the day and evening (nice...) now I don't feel sick at all, I just retch when I brush my teeth...ahem...

Yes, seriously, if it doesn't happen - be grateful!

I felt sick in both my pregnancies from about 6 weeks. Never threw up - it felt more like permanent motion sickness. This disappeared around 12 weeks (thank God)
