I seem to crave fresh stuff at the moment like fruit salads, cucumber, lettuce etc ... which I suppose isnt too bad (better than choc, which I have actually gone right off!)
But the other day I ate nearly a whole cucumber!!

Anyone had any funny / strange cravings?

With DS1 at 7 months pregnant, DH and I went on a last minute holiday to Turkey.
I was in heaven - cucumber was available at breakfast, lunch and dinner! I ate plates and plates of the stuff! I got odd looks in the restaurant.
I would wander round the house eating cucumbers like bananas.

DS2 I just wanted bloody MaccyDs burgers all the time.

DS3 giant bars of Cadbury Caramel - and I would eat them too - but felt fantastic during that pregnancy and was walking miles right up till delivery. The only preg I didn't put any weight on and actually lost some towards the end.

DD1 (due Thurs) fruit, fruit juices, water but lately has turned into cheese spread, wotsit and ham rolls (together) and Ribena squash, by the pint.

DS - chilli tortilla chips... ugh, shudder at the memory. And oranges, I ate 9 in one day, my mouth was covered in ulcers.
DD - ice straight out of the freezer. I used to stand in front of the freezer and scoop it out with a spoon... I wanted something wet, crunchy and cold. My poor teeth.
With this current pregnancy I just want meat - steak, cheeseburgers, lamb chops - ugh, I feel so greasy! I am also addicted to whatever gel my DS uses, I grab his head and take a massive, satisfying whiff.

With my first pork crackling and that was it.

With this one- cough candy, taramasalata, pesto, pate (which I haven't indulged in) and lots of white carbs!

bargainhuntingbetty · 13/04/2010 16:40

With dd1 it was Irn Bru. Would guzzle gallons of the stuff all the time. Didnt like it till I was pg. I exppected dd to come out orange

oopsandbabycoconut · 13/04/2010 16:41

Just yesterday I had the most delicious snack Chocolate poptarts with wensleydale cheese on top (I ate 4 ) I have no idea where the need for this combo came from but I saw the cheese and my sister mentioned poptarts and that was the end of that. I would have cried if I couldn't get the poptarts.

Last pregnancy it was pineapple, tinned peas and anchovies all mixed in a bowl with red onion marmelade on top.

RooBear · 13/04/2010 16:43

Lemonade esp. Sprite, which is really nnoying as i has fizzy drinks! oh and Beetroot

RooBear · 13/04/2010 16:43

whoops- annoying!

cornballer · 13/04/2010 16:45

I haven't really had any specific cravings, I've just been constantly ravenous for all forms of food all day every day since about 7 weeks. I'm now absolutely enormous!

DorotheaPlenticlew · 13/04/2010 16:46

At the moment I'm weirdly keen on alcohol-free Becks lager. Also, very solid and bitter cappucino foam (decaf or otherwise). Also the smell of chlorine, or of Dettol

Had big sushi cravings in early pg as well, but sadly off-limits apart from the horrid supermarket stuff. Planning to eat loads once DD is born.

thedollshouse · 13/04/2010 16:54

I have craved water and ice cubes throughout the pregnancy.

In the last couple of weeks (I am 40+2) I have been craving ice cream and milk shakes. This happened in the last few weeks of my pregnancy with ds1 as well.

comtessa · 13/04/2010 17:03

The other day I was craving coconut macaroons. I walked into every shop I could think of in the city centre during my lunch break and NOWHERE SOLD THEM. To add insult to injury, every shop/bakery assistant I asked gave me the strangest look and kept asking me to repeat it.

But the really annoying thing is that I used to love scrambled eggs and I've completely gone off them. Tried having some for lunch today and it was all I could do to not gag.

Right, off to huge ASDA - perhaps they'll have macaroons.

FourEyesGood · 13/04/2010 18:22

Coleslaw! I can't get enough of it at the moment.

butterscotch angel delight!! yum yum!! and its made with half a pint of milk so im getting plenty of calcium!!

real chips - not so good!!

marmite on toast - but i have always loved this so maybe not preg related!!

Kittykatzen · 13/04/2010 20:55

When do cravings usually kick in? I can't get enough toast and cereal but think I am just indulging my usually monstrous appetite that pre-pregnancy I tried in vain to keep in check!

Jamiki · 14/04/2010 08:02

DD1-Ham and salad sandwiches, milkshakes
DS1- hamburgers
DB3- mixed lollies, sweet things.

jwiggles · 14/04/2010 09:16

Its great hearing about all your cravings, some of you have had some fantastic ones, especially oopsandbabycoconut - ''pineapple, tinned peas and anchovies all mixed in a bowl with red onion marmelade on top'' - What a combination!

Lets hear more ladies..this is fun!

mine was frosties and steak - not together lol
i used to eat a whole box of frosties in a day :S and not much else and then have 2 big bloody steaks with spinach for dinner
at my last bloodtest turned out i was anemic and my midwife hadn't read my results properly all the way through my pregnancy!
so probably just my body craving what my body needed.

Gaga82 · 14/04/2010 09:36

I'm with the ice people, but apart from that, potatoes in absolutely any form. Had pasta alongside a jacket potato the other night for tea, and some soup with potato waffles dunked in! Cannot eat a meal without them.

Poptarts and cheese - amazing!!

HarleyQuinn · 14/04/2010 14:32

Tuna and sweetcorn sandwiches and Mikshakes

bumpology · 14/04/2010 15:32

I've had the opposite - I've completely gone off lettuce, though I have been craving a lot of fruit.

Minette75 · 14/04/2010 19:36

All I can contemplate eating is cheese on toasted bread (not cheese on toast...), fresh fruit/veg and OJ. All mostly prepared by DH as I can barely face the sight/smell of all other foods and hence am avoiding the kitchen altogether.

In fact, DH has just cooked himself some mushrooms with garlic and the smell is sending me over the edge.... The poor man was welcomed with 'I hate you so much for this!' as he was delivering a lovingly made sandwich!

manchestermummy · 14/04/2010 20:08

This is fun! I'm 10 weeks and have a serious orange jiuce thing going on. And sweet 'n' sour Pot Noodles. And I sent DH out for strawberry-flavoured Nesquick the other night.

With DD it was pineapple, and later on ice and orange juice.

Oh and Dr Byrne from Holby City - yum!
