Successful Preg straight after MC (i.e. no cycle in between)

Hi Ladies,

I had a MC in February. I'm pregnant again which we are just over the moon about but naturally extremely nervous.

Just wondering if anyone had any good news stories about anyone who had a successful pregnancy to term following directly from a straightforward (if there is such a thing.. but no D&C.. was natural)?

Hi, well I am 28 weeks pregnant after a miscarriage at 6 weeks in September without getting my period in between. All has been going extremely well and hopefully with continue to term.
However, I know just how you feel. When I first found out I was pregnant again I went back to my GP and burst into tears, quite embarrassing really but I ended up being refered to the EPU for early scans and paid for an extra one privately. It really reassured me that everything was progressing well and by the 12th week scan, I was feeling very confident all was going to be ok this time.
I certainly recommend going to your GP to get get referred to your local EPU if only to date the pregnancy as it is not possible just by the date of your miscarriage.
Good luck with everything I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

stanausauruswrecks · 08/04/2010 20:23

I had MC in July and found out I was PG in the August. It was such a stressful time - I had early reassurance scan at EPU and then paid for another one as I didn't believe that there would be a heartbeat at 12 weeks.DS is now 4!
I know how hard it is to hope and keep positive. Do see if you can get an early scan, and wishing you all the best.

CMOTdibbler · 08/04/2010 20:31

I had an ERPC for my 3rd mc on the 26th of August, and got a bfp (after ignoring symptoms for a few days) on the 17th of October - no period in between. DS is a nutty 3 year old now

The recurrent miscarriage consultant said that unless you'd had a late or complicated mc, there was no reason to wait at all

14hourstillbedtime · 08/04/2010 20:34

I actually got pregnant three times last year, miscarried the first two very early on (with no period in between) left one natural cycle, and then got pregnant immediately with DD due 2 weeks from today.

Agree with CMOTdibbler - no need to wait unless late m/c or complications. Current preg going fine, no problems at all.

Hope this is reassuring?

DomesticG0ddess · 08/04/2010 20:36

Hello and congratulations. I had my 12 week scan today, after getting pg straight after a natural mc in January. I have several friends who got pg straight away and had successful pregnancies. I don't think there is any significantly higher risk of another mc.

Emotionally is hard and I paid for 2 private scans before my 12 week and bought a doppler. It was impossible to get an early scan on NHS, I think because I knew when I miscarried and I wasn't having any problems. Still worried of course, but the chances of something going wrong now are small and the same as anybody else's. I already have 3 year old. I feel like I have been pregnant forever though of course.

It is nice surprising people with the news as they can't believe I am 3 months already - that bit was a bonus, ie. no one is expecting you to get pg so quickly so they don't ask you, as I find they usually do when you are TTC!

Good luck.

Hi i had m/c last year nov, same month i was pregnant again, with no period. He is now 8 months old.

cyteen · 08/04/2010 21:03

This happened to a lady on my antenatal (now postnatal) threads - she gave birth to a very healthy, gorgeous girl at term Hoping the same thing happens for you!

arena · 08/04/2010 21:03

Sorry ment 2008 in nov. And also congratulations to you.

FatSeal · 08/04/2010 21:15

I had a mc just before getting pg with dd1- in fact she was unplanned so I only went to the docs to find out why my periods hadn't come back, and it was a bit of a shock to be told "because you're pg"!

She's just turned 5 now

Best of luck with the long journey

TheHappyCamper · 08/04/2010 21:23

Hi, I got my BFP 5 weeks after a natual mc at about 8 weeks pg. No period in between. I was soooo very worried at the start of the 2nd pg and got an early-ish scan at 10 weeks. You have never seen so many tears when they found that heartbeat!

Anyway - dd is one year old tomorrow - we're having a birthday pary and my house is filled with balloons - good luck and hopefully things work out for yo this time xx

inneedofagin · 08/04/2010 21:55

Congratulations Happygirl very pleased for you, and also sympathetic - I am in exactly the same situation - we also had a mc in Feb and are pg now.

As this was not the first mc for me though, so I am with you much nervousness. Ironically my appointment with the recurrent mc specialist is tomorrow. I will let you know if he/she has any generic advice about this.

Would be nice to keep in touch - December babies, poo for Christmas yay!

HappyGirl1 · 09/04/2010 10:05

Ladies all I can say is THANK YOU ALL SO SO MUCH for responding with such positive news. I'm six weeks today and last night I feared the worst, I find myself jumping at every dart of pain but I feel fine again today, boobs still really sore which is my only real symptom. So I'm pleased to have got to today as I only got to 5 + 4 last time so feel like this is a mini milestone.

I saw my GP 2 weeks ago and she said no need for an early scan unfortunately.. like obviously that's good news cos I feel fine but I'd love one. I'm intrigued to know how ye did the private scans. I know someone on MN mentioned BabyBond? Is this where ye went also or can you pay for a private scan on the NHS? I'm seeing my GP again on Wednesday so could ask her maybe.

Such good news ladies and thank you for giving me the positive news - really appreciate it.

PS TheHappyCamper that brought tears to my eyes just thinking about the thoughts of hearing a heartbeat! I'm such a crazy emotional woman right now! I can totally imagine lots of tears for you but how great it worked out .

Congratulations.

After my second miscarriage I thought 'sod it' to waiting a full cycle before trying again (that's what I did after the first m/c, and it took 3 more months and ended in m/c anyway) - and what do you know? I fell pregnant that very cycle.

My m/c was at about 5 weeks - spontaneous and complete, no medical/surgical management.

My little one is 14 months old now.

The first trimester was obviously stressful - I had a reassurance scan at about 7 weeks where we saw the heartbeat (an unbelievable moment), another at 9 weeks when I had a tiny bit of spotting, and then the usual at 12-13 weeks.

I think there have been a few threads on this topic - if you feel like more reassurance, then do a search!

Wishing you all the very best.

Bathbaby · 09/04/2010 11:35

Congratulations! The same thing happened to me, and I'm now 40wks plus! The early stages were very anxious, but I held off from seeing the midwife till I was absolutely sure and had my first scan at 17 weeks! I just couldn't face any disappointment early on, but I know that wouldn't be the right thing to do for most others!
Anyway, wishing you every happiness in this pregnancy!

WalkOnBy · 12/04/2010 11:10

Hi everyone,

Am new to MN this is my first post! I had a very early M/C (just under 5 wks) on Friday which was just horrible. We've decided to keep on trying and to stay positive hope it happens again very soon.

I am a bit confused though, I started bleeding on Friday evening and it hasnt yet stopped, do I count Friday as Day 1 of my cycle, I am not sure if or when I will ovulate this month.....

The hospital told us we should wait until after my next period but I am keen to crack on and think it would help us to move on after it all.

Any advice would be gatefully received

Thanks very much x

TheHappyCamper · 12/04/2010 13:50

Hi again happygirl1 - didn't mean to make you cry! It was an amazing moment though Hope you are still staying positive and trying to relax - yeah right!

walkonby - welcome to Mumsnet! Sorry you are experiencing a MC - you will find lots and lots of support on here. I would say count the first day of bleeding as CD1 but maybe expect it to last a little bit longer than your normal period, and to ovulate a little later. I seem to recall bleeding for around a week and then ov day being about 2 weeks later. Only approximately though!

HappyGirl1 · 12/04/2010 16:03

Ineedofagin - definitely would love to stay in touch.. did the recurrent MC say anything to you? My GP hasn't referred me to one of them.. I'm seeing my GP tomorrow though.

Walkonby - everyone is different but for DH and me it was definitely vital to try again so that we had hope again and it helped us move on a little bit. If you have had a natural MC with no complications I think it's okay to try again. I found that I bled for about 6 days from the MC.. I did ovulation tests from day 10 and ovulated on day 14 and then did a pregnancy test on day 27 (my cycles are usually 26-28 days). So I would suggest doing lots of ovulation tests at the same time so that at least you know you are ovulating or not.. Also make sure you are getting negative pregnancy tests before you start trying as if not then you should check with your GP

Everyone else who has replied - Ladies thanks so much for your notes. I'm struggling to be honest as was sick with a bug (i'm convinced it was non-pg related) on Saturday and my boobs went from being raelly big and sore to just pretty normal although DH insisted they were still bigger than usual but anyhow did another test and it's still positive and saying 5+ weeks which is correct so fingers crossed it's okay. I'd give anything to get an early scan but somehow I don't think my GP will be up for it but I'll certainly try again tomorrow when I see her. Thanks again.

Hi Happygirl1, So sorry to hear about your MC but a MASSIVE congrats on your pregnancy.

I'm also in a very similar situtaion to walkonby I had a very early MC about 4 and a half week's ago

Wednesday is suppose to be my 1st "PROPER" period since my MC bleed, and me and DH are very keen to start trying this month, very excited but nervous also.

xxxx

HappyGirl1 · 12/04/2010 17:08

Thanks Mumsie that's very sweet. Believe me I know what you are going through it's just absolutely terrible no matter how early it was.

Well done you on waiting for your first proper period.. I would definitely recommend trying .. The one thing I would advise though is definitely do the ovulation tests (at the same time every day) as they do say that your cycles can be a bit messed up after MC so no guarantee when you may ovulate so you may as well give yourself the best chance! Fingers crossed for you so much.

mumsie123 · 12/04/2010 17:18

Oh thank you happygirl do you reccomend any ovulation stick's? i haven't used them before?

And do i start peeing on then from the first day i stop my period.

I'm far too excited, i also have a good feeling about this time, but dont want to jinx myself .. do you have feeling's like that?

xx

WalkOnBy · 12/04/2010 17:33

Thanks ladies for your advice, it has made me feel a lot more positive. It all happened so quickly (I only found out I was pg on Easter Monday and ended up in St Thomas's Emergency Gynae Unit on Friday night).

I did wonder whether I was being really weird in wanting to try again so soon and I guess a lot of people wouldnt want to.

I've got a good feeling too but am so scared something will happen again. So I dont want to get excited as I think it will make me even more paranoid then I was before

Good luck to everyone xx

WalkOnBy · 12/04/2010 17:42
