Hello,

5 days till EDD with DC (birth child) no 4.

Getting really fed up with all the pains I am getting, mostly at night.

I am used to full on braxton hicks and had them from early on with DC3 and this one. For me they have always been tightenings across abdomen. Not painful but stop you in your tracks IYSWIM.

These pains are like period pains/early contractions. Not going anywhere though an I have been having them for at least a week. Last night kept waking me up and I wouldnt have been suprised if the had led to something. But they didnt!

I dont tend to get any signs of labour till I am well established i.e. show and waters breaking.

Anyone else had this? Are they BH but stronger because this is my 4th?

One of mine was a week before EDD but others 3 days over.

Stupid rambling post because of course the only way I will know is to wait and see. Just wondered if this is some sort of prolonged prelabour, labour (secretly hoping I am slowly dilating as we speak )

well if you think you're probably about 4cms already given that you are on your 4th baby, then just think you'r ealmost halfway there and when it does develop full blown, it won't take too long.

good luck.

Pollyanna · 05/04/2010 21:18

i had contractions for at least a couple of weeks with nos 4 and 5. they kept coming and going iirc. in the end I was a couple of weeks late with each one, but labour was extremely fast.

chegirlWILLbeserene · 05/04/2010 21:34

COUPLE OF WEEKS LATE

Oh please God no!

I much prefer liahgen's scenerio!

don't despair che you won't be pregnant forever,

How have they been today and this evening?

LadyOfTheFlowers · 05/04/2010 21:37

Your OP is almost identical to what I am going through atm.
Am 10 days shy of due date with no.4.

First was a week early, next 2 were 4 days late.

Will be watching with interest..... am getting quite strong contractions now but am not going to move from my seat!

Pollyanna · 05/04/2010 21:39

oh yes, I was actually in labour at 35 weeks with ds2 - went to 2cm dilated. Then it all stopped and i reverse dilated!!! (undilated?) he came at nearly 43 weeks in the end.

But on the bright side, labour was almost intantaneous and not that painful either.

liahgen66 · 05/04/2010 21:43

ooh lady when you say now, do you mean as we speak?

Live labour thread, it's been a while.

gibbberish · 05/04/2010 21:48

chegirl period pains etc does sound like like early signs of things getting going.

Unfortunately I am a rubbish example of how things should go - all 4 of mine refused to budge and all had to be induced 2wks+ after due date

Will be watching with much interest/excitement though!

LadyOfTheFlowers · 05/04/2010 21:53

Yes, have been for about 40 mins but dying off now.

Don't get excited!

Am glad I am not the only one who experiences very convincing pains that amount to nothing.

chegirlWILLbeserene · 05/04/2010 22:01

Had some today lia but all quiet atm.

Lady how spooky - we do sound v. alike dont we?

Not likeing all this talk of going over and undilating though

Quick labours stuff is acceptable

The thing that is bothering me most about these pains is the lack of sleep. Really dont like the idea of going into labour feeling so knackered! Stops me doing the housework and I cannot possibly have a baby if the hoovering is not done

If the bh are becoming bothersome, have a nice warm bath which if they are Bh should stop them, then jump into bed and try and get a few hours.

gibbberish · 05/04/2010 22:06

chegirl, wouldnt worry too much about going over. I had absolutely nothing until they had to virtually prise them out of me (literally with dd4).

If there are mild contractions the signs are good.

chegirlWILLbeserene · 05/04/2010 22:10

I feel all warm and cared for now. Thank you ladies

OH just keeps nodding in nervous way when I tell him (when he is not hiding from me)

LadyOfTheFlowers · 05/04/2010 22:13

LOL at your OH!

Seems our OHs sound similar too!!

gibbberish · 05/04/2010 22:14

So exciting!

(my dh was in denial by dd4...)

l39 · 05/04/2010 22:15

I had painful BHs in fourth pregnancy.

Had gone overdue by a week 1st preg then by two 2nd, (induced with twins 3rd preg) thought I'd be overdue again but ended up having DD5 quite quickly (in proper labour about 2hrs) at 39 + 2!

Good luck chegirl.

CarGirl · 05/04/2010 22:16

Mine always refused so come out until induced at 2 weeks over too!

However with no.4 I did actually get some BH, I was amazed

gibbberish · 05/04/2010 22:17

Don't brag cargirl

LadyOfTheFlowers · 05/04/2010 22:20

CheGirl - Think I am still in denial too tbh, DH certainly is I think, though he has suddenly become very excited which is nice!!

I actually stopped dead yesterday as I pulled a load of newborn clothes out of the washer and looking at the tiny garments thoughtto myself: 'My God woman - in about a week or so you will have ANOTHER baby, another tiny, newborn baby!'

chegirlWILLbeserene · 05/04/2010 22:27

OH is making quite an effort (for him anyway). He had even felt my bump a few times. I find this odd and have to stop myself from saying 'what on earth are you doing?'

He is a very hands on Dad but tends to do his best to ignore the whole pregnancy thing as much as possible.

I was going out with my friend the other day and he called out 'look after her' to friend.

I nearly fell over!

Bless him.

gibberish - it was probably all of a handul of times, was the only birth that I didn't demand an epidural for - was absolutely wonderful!

4ths are lovely, they just spend their whole time watching everyone else and sqwuaking when it's too quiet.

KatnKankles · 05/04/2010 22:57

Nice to hear all this.. I'm 35 weeks with my 4th I keep having moments of 'OMG what are you doing woman'?

Hope my 4th is like you describe cargirl, my 3rd was a bit like that but can't help think I'm due a screamer.

fidelma · 05/04/2010 23:19

OK this should keep you happy.I was late with my first 3 over 2 weeks and was induced with with the 3rd.

i always have loads of BH.

With DC 4 i was having loads of BH (false labour) start stop start stop, always at night and in bed.

I was examined at 381/2 weeks and was 2 -3 cm the midwife gave me a good sweep.I then had strong BH again and thought that it was time but no it all stopped.Nothing for 2 days.

I then went and had a big massage ,floated and stretched in the swimming pool.

Bingo I went into labour after having a good cry. Still very slowly for 6 hours start stop .But 8 hours later my 4th baby was born 1 week before my due date and 3 weeks earlier than all the others.

So good luck and get a massage.

chegirlWILLbeserene · 06/04/2010 10:05

Well goodmorning all.

I have been awake since around 3am.

Stayed in bed listening to my hypnotherapy CD. Then got up at 5am and did the kitchen and dining room floors, washing, drying, couple of cups of rasperry tea, packed a bag for the baby (not the we are waiting for the older one) incase he and his brother go to the neighbours, showered and have put an old sheet on the bed.

I just have a feeling though I could be very wrong.

The pain started raidiating round my back last night, have been to the loo every hour or so.

Pains stopping and starting, v irregular but they hurt.

So on standby. Will feel a wally if this goes on for another couple of weeks though!
