Are there any others out there expecting November babies?

Our first baby is due on 15 November (so I'm 6+1) and I'm the first of all my friends get married and get pregnant. Would love to compare notes/worries/milestones with some other girls due around the same time...

Love Jo x

Frolie - that doesn't sound right at all - what does she need to say "hello" to you for? Didn't she do that at the booking in appt or did this one double up for that?

At my 16 week appt on Weds she took a urine sample and checked it, dicussed my blood results even though they were all clear (except Rhesus but I knew that) and measured my blood pressure.
We also had a general chat about how I'm feeling and then we did the heartbeat and had a long chat about gender.

I would ask for another appt with a different midwife, at the very least to hear the heartbeat. I wonder if she'd forgotten to bring her Sonicaid with her and was trying to gloss over that?

For wieghing and measuring - no one has measured me yet and according to my notes, they won't until I reach 26 weeks and I was wieghed this morning when i gave blood for the Triple Test but have not been on either appt with the midwife.

JosephineClaire · 10/06/2010 19:52

Hmm, I didn't even know I was supposed to have a 16 week appointment! I have one booked for 19 weeks, so only 1 week before my next scan. Whoops!

Hello
Thank you for your replies. I think you're right, I should ask for another appointment with a different midwife or at least make a complaint. I rushed from work for the appointment and it was such a let down. She didn't mention any of my blood test results or have a conversation about anything really. This is despite me trying to ask questions and be a 'proactive' patient! Most of the questions I asked her, which were related to my pernicious anaemia and previous operations in my abdomen, she told me to discuss with Dr.

I don't think she would have forgotten her sonic aid,as the appointment was in the community hospital. I think one of the problems is that I had my booking-in appointment & 12 wk scan at the city hospital (fantastic midwife, with her for over an hour and she referred me to a consultant), but all my community midwife appointments are at the community hospital...

It's really helpful to hear what your 16 wk experiences have been like, as it shows me the type of care that I should have received. I think I'll call the city hospital's team tomorrow to see if I can see one of them.

Hi everyone

It's interesting how varied everyone's experiences of MWs are, and of how many appointments they get. I've got my next one booked in for the week after my 20 week scan! I've had nothing officially booked since about 8 weeks ( so long ago I can't remember when it actually was!) - although one day when I felt really worried, I got in touch with the MWs through the pager number and one came round that day and gave me a quick check-up (BP, urine, and did a heartbeat monitor) which was really reassuring both for then, and to know that it is possible to get someone when you need them.

So Frolie if you feel you missed out, do ask, as it sounds like you should get something better.

fireflyz · 12/06/2010 16:36

Another thing - I'm 17 weeks now, and I've started telling more people my news - and am amazed at how many people ask me how long I'd been trying for.

Er, isn't that rather personal?!! They usually preface the question with, 'perhaps this is a bit personal, but....'

So far I've just said, ''not long, we were lucky.''

Do you think it's a bit cheeky? I don't think I would DREAM of asking anyone that!

Eee, it's a funny old world.

Artyparty · 13/06/2010 15:12

Hi Girls, An eventful couple of weeks for some of you since I was last here. It all happens so quickly doesn't it? We are all nearly half way through!

I agree with you fireflyz - a very personal and sensitive issue. Pehaps the people asking are thinking of trying themselves? Even so, is only something I would ask a very close friend.

Poor you Frolie. It's frustrating when you don't get what you expect from an appointment. My MW is great but she was on holiday for my 16-17wk appointment so I saw a colleague - who was also lovely.

Had a horrible experience with the Consultants team but phoned NHS direct who were helpful in telling me what was normal and how to complain.

My wardrobe is becoming very limited now. I'm finding it hard to look 'professional'. I think perhaps dresses are the answer.

Have also started ante-natal yoga which is very relaxing and feel better for focusing on the unborn baby for a while instead of the million other things I have to do .

I haven't bought a thing yet... what do you girls think the top five purchases should be?

Mama2Monkeys · 13/06/2010 21:46

... "Hi!".

Can I join the thread? Due 15th Nov, 18wks tomorrow with DC3. Have a DS who is 4 next week and DD who turns 2 4 days before my due date. Both amazing but we do have our ups and downs. They are a whirlwind I hope this babe is ready.

Previous stats: DS was born on Father's Day 2008, was 12 days late, born eventually by ventouse/forceps and weighed 9lb 4. Tried breastfeeding. Didnt happen so bottle fed. DD born 8 days late by surprise in the bathroom, caught by daddy. Weighed 7lb 11. All pregnancies so far had no complications or sickness . With the exception of testing for Group B Strep with DD and this pregnancy.

toja555 · 14/06/2010 09:41

Wow Mama2Monkeys, I had exactly the same experience with DS, hopefully I will not give birth at home this time! (wow how did you managed!)
I am 19+3 today (2nd pregnancy) and thanks to my BMI of 33, not showing at all At least one positive of being overweight

EMS23 · 14/06/2010 10:50

Hello ladies,
Unfortunately I have been called by the midwife this morning to tell me my triple blood test is showing a 1:21 risk of Down's syndrome, so pretty high. I have to go in this afternoon to discuss my "options" which basically means I'll be having an amniocentesis very soon.
I feel a bit numb right now - really didn't expect this and being 31 years old I didn't consider this as a likely thing to happen to me and my baby.
I feel so sorry for myself. Is that terribly selfish to admit? I want it all to be ok and can't imagine the 3 week wait after the amnio is done, let alone the actual procedure itself.
Has anyone else got any experience of this?

Mama2Monkeys · 14/06/2010 11:31

EMS23 - You are not selfish! I have no experience with such things, sorry. Things may turn out to be fine. If not the result you were hoping for deal with it when you get it. Don't place yourself or your babe under unnecessary stress. Easier said than done I know. All this advice from a natural born stress head!

Cali1984 · 14/06/2010 18:09

Hi there ladies,

I see I might be a little late on this thread? Think the last time anyone wrote was in March this year.

Anyway, I'll give it a bash an see who replies. I am due on the 19th of November; this is my husband and I's first child and we're very excited. I am new to Putney, am originally from South Africa. We've been here for three weeks.

Because we having the baby here, i wanted to know from any of you - which hospital you think is the best and why? My GP has recommended Kingston and Chelsea and Westminster - which is better? I really want great people and great facilities. I can?t stand grumpy people (already had a few run ins with the reception staff at my GP) I'm a happy person that wants to bring our child into this world peacefully and calmly. Any suggestions?

P.S A huge Congrates to all you moms-to-be!

Artyparty · 15/06/2010 17:30

Hello EMS23
So sorry to hear you have to go through further tests. There are many instances of 'false positives' so hopefully they will give you better odds after your amnio. I haven't experienced it myself (tho I am 35 which technically increases risk) but a dear friend had a very high risk like yours and now has a beautiful healthy baby girl.
Also, I have just spent the day teaching the most delightful group of children with downs syndrome, so it will be for you and your partner to think through the options, once you have all the information. My thoughts are with you.

Welcome Mama2Monkeys. I'm pleased to hear that you 'accidentally' gave birth at home! I am hoping a planned home birth, admittedly it is my first.

Welcome to the uk Cali1984. I'm sure both the hospitals you mention are quite smart. I'm in east London myself which is a different story! Hence home birth plans. If you look on the websites they give dates when you can have a tour and meet some of the staff. The NHS will never be able to guarantee peace and calm at all times, due to the huge demand... I think that has to come from within!

EMS23 · 17/06/2010 09:10

Thanks for your messages Mama2Monkeys and ArtyParty.
I had the amnio on Tuesday - not an experience I'd like to repeat but I did get to see my beautiful little girl on the screen for a good half an hour and the lovely sonographer gave me a whole stack of photo's!
The first results are due tomorrow, with the full karotype in two weeks time.
I'm trying to stay positive and hope that we are lucky enough to have a good outcome but it's out of our hands now.

JosephineClaire · 17/06/2010 13:25

Well done on getting through the amnio EMS23, and how lovely that they managed to turn it into a positive experience, seeing your daughter and having some photos to take home

Stay positive, we're all thinking of you, with fingers crossed for a good result x

Happily the hospital have just called and we have been given the all clear for Downs, Edwards and Pataus syndromes. I am so happy!

We do have to wait another two weeks for the full karotype, on which any number of other problems could reveal themselves but this is great news to be going on with.

I'm so happy and thanks to everyone for their positive thoughts.

I feel so connected to this child now, in a way I hadn't before. I imagine the full maternal instinct will kick in when she is born, in ways I can't even comprehend right now but the force of my feeling this week has taken me by surprise. I really felt I would give anything for her to be ok. Anything at all.

JosephineClaire · 17/06/2010 19:30

EMS23!

So glad your little girl got the all clear x

Good morning everyone, I reached 20 weeks today ? a halfway through!! It is almost unbelievable that the time flies so fast! On the negative side I gained 6 lbs in the last 3 weeks (1 lb in the first 17 weeks) and am terrified why the weight suddenly just jumped up!!! Need to put myself on some healthy foods!

Just wanted to wish everyone a nice Friday!

EMS23 · 18/06/2010 10:23

toja555 - congrats on getting to 20 weeks - time really is flying!

Your weight gain sounds ideal and I really wouldn't be worrying if I were you. I put on a lot in the first 12 weeks and not that much since - these things do come in fits and starts and everyone is different so please don't drive yourself mad worrying about it.

JosephineClaire & Mama2Monkeys - thank you. It feels like a cloud has been lifted - a new day and a wonderful foot on which to start it!

redbird79 · 18/06/2010 10:43

Hi all, firstly- great news EMS23 I am really glad for you, and toja555 please don't worry about the weight gain, you are probably going through a bit of a growth spurt. I have suddenly in the last week or so got a bump, after weeks of twinges and aches, and there will be a lot more growing to do!
Just wanted to update on this thread as I am hugely excited and mighty relieved- went for 20 week scan yesterday. All is going fine and the sonographer said she is "definite" that it will be a boy. There is still a little doubt in the back of my mind, so will keep a couple of girls names in reserve and won't be painting the room blue or anything! Still on for a 7 November due date. Can finally start shopping now- had been too superstitious before.
Congrats to all of you, and now will try and do some work!!

planner26 · 18/06/2010 11:52

Just want to say how please I am for you EMS23 - really good news.

I'm right at the end of Nov (we've had the 25th and 29th as possible due dates!) so only 17 weeks ish. Have my third midwife appointment this aft can't wait to hear heartbeat again!

My tummy seems to have 'popped' this week too - there's definitely no hiding it and clothes have totally outgrown. Have been staying healthy and swimming 4/5 times a week as well as yoga but still put on half a stone - does this sound ok to people?

I'm so excited for 20 week scan - we're going to start buying after that!

toja555 · 18/06/2010 12:09

Thanks and will try not too worry about the weight gain, although my BMI to start with is about 33-34, so defo need to keep an eye on what I eat.
On the other hand, my bump is still not very visible due to my high BMI. Still keeping as a secret at work
So excited for those who already had 20 weeks scan. It is so reassuring, isn't it. My scan is next week, can't wait.

fireflyz · 18/06/2010 19:27

Hi everyone

For anyone who's thinking of getting a bumpband, here's a quick review - and I get no commission!

I got it the day after I ordered it, chose size 2, as I'm a 14/16 normally, but it is huge, because the front is extra large to go over a bump, so at the moment I wear it folded over like a thin belt.

It's been really handy as I'm finding it difficult to do up my jeans button and my work trousers buttons - not by very much tbh as I still don't have a big bump, but it feels like when you are a bit bloated with PMT and things dig in a bit, so the bumpband holds things up when they are not done up!

Artyparty · 18/06/2010 20:13

Thants fantasitc EMS23 and wonderful that you have made the experience a positive one.
I am also feeling protective of the bump and looking forward to seeing it again.
Does anyone else have a stong sense of the sex already? I have been referring to it as 'he' even tho I don't intend to find out

Thanks for the review fireflyz I was thinking about getting one of those as am missing my jeans!

I put on all the weight in the first 12 weeks and am pretty much the same now at 20 weeks toja555.

Have popped this week tho - very round and hard bump and I 'he' has been fluttering away for the past two days.

Braving my first NCT sale tomorrow - will give you my review later!

EMS23 · 23/06/2010 10:55

Morning all, how is everyone?
After my panics and stresses of the last week I'm feeling a bit calmer now and excited to be having a girl.

Artyparty - I wanted a boy but at about 7 weeks I got a really strong sense it was a girl and it turned out I was right!
Obviously am thrilled to be having a girl and all previous thoughts of wanting a boy went out the window!

Has anyone felt any strong movements yet? I'm still waiting and apart from the odd flutter, which could be the baby or could easily be nothing, I'm still waiting! Just desperate to feel her now!
