Are there any others out there expecting November babies?

Our first baby is due on 15 November (so I'm 6+1) and I'm the first of all my friends get married and get pregnant. Would love to compare notes/worries/milestones with some other girls due around the same time...

Love Jo x

Hi Ems23
Glad you are doing well. I've just had the 20wk scan; we wanted a suprise but my husband thinks he saw a willy!
I do have a sense of a boy.
The NCT sale was great but not for the fiant hearted. I only bought three little things including a new romper suit for 10p. There were some very determined ladies filling those big blue ikea bags. They also had equipment such as moses baskets, nursing pillows and toys. The sales are open to all - you don't have to be in the NCT. They had clothes up to 7 years old so you could bring your old stuff to sell and pick up new.
Now ladies - I feel it's time to discuss BUGGIES. I have just been to John lewis and seen a dazzling array, including the lovely bugabo at £799. Do any of you have any ideas or tips. It seems this will be the major purchase for the baby.
PS Ems23 I have baby fluttering everyday now, it's quite nice!

Oh wow, 20 week scans are so exciting! There are 3 of us in the office having November babies and one of the girls just found out she is having a boy. We are not asking the sonographer to tell us, but I'm worried I might see something that will give it all away(!)

I've felt the baby everyday for about a week now - like a little elastic band 'pinging' inside me. It's slightly different from any digestion feelings, so I can tell when it's baby and when it's not. At the moment, it's usually around 11am, 4-6pm, and then when I'm going to sleep if I'm up quite late

I haven't bought it yet, but we're going for the Britax B-Smart 3. It's a pushchair that faces both ways, carrycot, and car seat travel system. We're going to get 2 types of car seat with it; a lie-flat carrycot style car seat for when baby is very young (recommended by Which? Consumer) and the normal bucket shape car seat (again, one that gets good Which? safety reviews). It's the only one I've found that does everything, is reasonably priced, a well-known brand name, with fantastic reviews (it's this year's version of the Vigour+) Plus, my neighbour just got one so I've seen it in use, which was reassuring

My biggest problem at the moment is the sudden inability to sleep - I'm 20 weeks tomorrow, and now considering the Dream Genii pillow. Has anybody tried it? Is it worth the £50? I think you can also use it for breastfeeding, which will make it better value...

Hi everyone,
I'm having my 20 wks scan next tues and I can't wait! My husband and I dont really mind either way but I had a dream it was going to be a boy...although I secretly want a girl! but really either is fine with me as long as the baby's healthy!

I too started to feel the baby move and its very reassuring when you feel it and nice to know that he/she is doing ok inside.

Buggies - After considering for a while we decided to take my sisters' offer and take her 2 years old bugabo pram.(and save £500!) We're going to change the canopy if the baby's a girl tho.

Dream Genii - I too was thinking of buying one the other day and wanted to hear people's feedback - anyone?

toja555 · 25/06/2010 09:22

I just had my 20 weeks scan yesterday, was told we are having a boy (we already have 2yo DS) and now going through a gender dissapointment - I guess this is natural, though, when you already have DS and planning to stop at two.. Thanks god the baby looks healthy and was moving nicely while on scan.

EMS23 · 25/06/2010 09:42

toja555 - I know how you feel about the gender disappointment. I wanted a boy but it's a girl. Am used to the idea now but it was a bit odd at first.

I haven't thought about buggies or anything for the baby yet. I will start looking soon and it's good to know what others are going with as it gives a starting point.

I am going to get a new pillow though - couldn't sleep at all last night and my tummy feels so heavy when I lie on my side.

ah, I so want to feel the baby move now! After the amnio last week, I've been driving myself mad with worry that something went wrong and the baby has died and I'm not going to find out till my 20 week scan on 13th July. Obviously that's crazy talking but I can't help it so now I just want to feel her move so I know she's ok!

Artyparty · 25/06/2010 13:44

Hi JosephineClaire and thanks for the comprehensive reviews. I hadn't thought of looking at consumer websites like Which? but that's so sensible. I also want a three-in-one buggy so will have a look at that brand.

Lucky you aichi. I am the first in my family to have a baby so no bugabos forthcoming!

DREAM GENII - my husband bought me one last weekend as he was fed up with the amount of pillows in the bed propping up various parts! I would say it's brilliant . I thought it was a bit expensive but the design is very good and I don't think you can get the same effect with ordinary pillows. My back feels more comfy throughout the day and I wake up still slotted into it on the left hand side which is a good habit to get into at this stage. It also stops that dreadful pulling feeling as the tummy gets bigger.

toja555 I do feel for you. I think my husband would really like a girl and I am already worrying that I will be a 'lady who has boys'. I'm sure they are all beautiful tho. So many people would love a boy and keep having girls. It also seems a nighmare if you have one of each as they fight, can't share clothes and won't share a room!

Am sure you'll feel baby soon EMS23. As JC says, it can feel like trapped wind at first!! until you get used to the regular pings. Mine goes mad with those VuVuzelas that the football supporters have! Definately a boy!

Hi there...anyone mind if I join in?

I noticed this thread a while ago and have been meaning to join for some time. There are so many posts on here though that I've been struggling to read through it all! So I'm not entirely sure who everyone is....but hello to you all!

I'm currently 21 weeks and recently had my 20 week scan. Very very relieved to know that little one is nice and healthy and everything appears to be ok. After a little deliberation we asked to know the sex. But we got the midwife to write it down and seal it in an envelope so we could open it afterwards just me and DP. We've decided to keep the sex a secret from everyone else (for now) but on here I feel I want to shout from the rooftops that we are having a BOY!!! Im so happy! I would have been happy either way, but I know DP was secretly longing for a boy. My 9 month old nephew is a boy and all our friends have boys, so it works out lovely (although would still have been lovely with a girl!)

With regards to prams, my Sis has offered us her practically brand new Mothercare Xcursion travel system. Anyone have any experiences with this one?

fireflyz · 26/06/2010 11:03

Hi there
So glad to hear everyone's news.
I'm counting the days until my 20 week scan on July 6. Can't wait!

BUGGIES - I thought about the Britax one too. It looks good on the website and I've read some good reviews in magazines too.
I couldn't see it in a branch of John Lewis or Mothercare though - a bit disappointing as I wanted to have a play! I expect they would order one in though if I asked - I still felt a bit shy in the baby department of JL - no bump, playing with buggies = nutcase alert!!!!

I'm still making do with pillows (am a bit stingy...) but then I really don't have a big bump yet (another reason why I can't wait for the 20 week scan - is bean still OK in there?!) but the Dream Geni pillow does look good. Maybe I'll get one later when I definitely need it.

Am getting a bit sick of sleeping on my left side though. Sort of achy hip sometimes. (maybe I do need a geni pillow!) But have finally got used to sleeping on the other side of the bed! DH tries to steal over to 'my' side sometimes but that's kinda nice

But the sickness side of things has got better... and I'm eating a bit better. Mostly at the moment I'm on cheese, milk, bread, jacket potatoes, baked beans, salad, bananas, bran cereals, licorice bars, prune juice

Which brings me onto a question...

VITAMINS - are you all taking them? How are you getting on with them? I'm not but wonder if I should.

xx

bimbim · 27/06/2010 00:29

Im due Nov 22nd aswell it will now make us 18 weeks and 2 days.

demonskitz · 27/06/2010 15:51

Hello everyone

Never posted on here before, but it's got to the point where I feel I'm driving everyone I know mad with baby talk! None of my friends have children and this is my first, a little boy! Due Nov 6th

In reference to support pillows I bought one of those Summer Infant body support pillows and it is AMAZING! I was getting really bad hip and knee ache in bed but the pillow stops that and it also doubles up as a feeding pillow and baby seat (because it coils and zips up) later, so I really think it was worth the money.

Also, perhaps a bit TMI but my boobs have started leaking on a night! eeek!! My OH thinks its both hilarious and gross. I bought a sleep bra yesterday, because I thought maybe my boobs were being a bit squished in my sleep by my arms, but that hasn't really helped, I guess I'm going to have to use breast pads. I thought boobs didn't start leaking until later? I'm only 21 weeks! I guess it's reassuring to know that everything is working though lol

Smithy1979 · 28/06/2010 13:51

Hello - nice to meet so many people due around the same time as me!

I'm due on 14th or 15th November - my hospital paperwork says both dates, so who knows!

I just wanted to comment on the Dreamgeni as I bought one a while ago. I find it gives me a bit of back ache/general stiffness lying in an enforced position all night. I tend to sleep on my back naturally so it might just be that but I'm just finding a cushion between my knees to work better. I wish I'd just bought one of those cheese shaped wedge cushions instead to be honest to support the bump. At £50 it's a bit of a pricey thing to get wrong.

Have my 20 week scan on Wednesday and have decided to find out what it is. Not sure why I've had a change of heart but since I've felt it moving I've kind of wanted to know!

Fireflyz - I took pregnacare religiously at the beginning and now only when I remember!

fireflyz · 28/06/2010 18:39

Hi there

Smithy1979 wonder if the Dreamgeni will also work as a breastfeeding support pillow? I was looking at the website yesterday and noticed some of them double up like that, you might be able to get some more use out of it that way.

Re vitamins
Thanks for note re pregnacare. One of my pals told me off for not taking vitamin pills, and told me a few horror stories too! (Meant from goodness of her heart but still, ta v much!) I don't know if I'd remember to take them every day either.

I worry a bit about my iron levels, because I have virtually completely gone off meat.

But I am eating lots of cheese, milk, breakfast cereal, brown bread, fruity yoghurts, and have been really trying to eat more of a variety of things e.g. colourful salad stuff like they tell you to in all the books and websites.

Also have found boiled eggs to be great. So much so that have been known to buy a scotch egg, throw all the sausagey bit away or give it to DH, and then just eat the egg!

Have also discovered Licorice bars. Very good for a little sugar hit.

Sorry for going on about food in case any of you are still feeling queasy.

It is wonderful when that stops... actually half-read some recipes in a magazine without feeling sick the other day

xxx

JosephineClaire · 29/06/2010 09:44

Really quick question - does anyone know if we get another scan after the 20 week scan, or was that our last one??
I forgot to ask when I was at the hospital!

Smithy1979 · 29/06/2010 12:41

Hello
Fireflyz - Yes, the dreamgeni is supposed to double up as a breastfeeding pillow, so all is not lost and I guess when I get a bit bigger it might help me. Saying that, two people have asked me if I've been eating too many pies today, so I am clearly starting to get a bit rotund!!

It is great when the nausea goes! Mine went more or less over night and now I'm eating most things I hadn't touched for months. I find that if something is pre prepared I'm ok. Couldn't eat eggs that I've cooked but am happy to eat an egg mayo sandwich!

JosephineClaire - I think that's the last scan unless you have specific health problems between now and birth.

My scan is tomorrow - I think we're going to find out the sex!

EMS23 · 29/06/2010 15:30

I'm not taking any supplements, stopped taking folic acid at 12 weeks as advised by midwife and she didn't mention anything else to me.
Should I be then?

fireflyz · 29/06/2010 19:14

Hi there

EMS23 unfortunately the answer is I don't know! I'm going to ask the midwife at my next appointment in a couple of weeks. Meantime, I might just buy some Pregnacare and give it a go.

It might be that we don't need vitamin pills if we're eating a variety of things to get all the food groups and a good selection of vitamins anyway. I'm trying to but not sure I am!

I've done a bit of googling on this topic and thoughts vary. On this site there are a few threads specifically about vitamins in pregnancy and people have different opinions on the subject. I guess we're all different and so we just have to do what feels right for us!

Artyparty · 03/07/2010 18:55

Hi Girls,
Welcome demonskitz - I am due on Nov 8th and I THINK it's a boy too. Just guessing as I didn't ask at the scan.
JC That's the last official scan (if there are no complications) but you could pay to have the 3D one if you wanted. A colleague has spent her Health in Pregnancy grant on it!!
Hope all of you are ready to receive your £190 grant - details here:
www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/BenefitsTaxCreditsAndOtherSupport/Expectingor bringingupchildren/HealthinPregnancyGrant/DG_173502

It is being abolished from January 1st so we may aswell make the most of it.

fireflyz I am still taking the folic acid, as decided by the consultant I am seeing - don't know why - but am also taking berocca everyday for the B and C vits. Also Iron and Omega 3 suppliments because I am vegetarian.
As you say, you should get all you need from your usual diet but I know Omega 3 boosts brain development at this stage, so am going for that.
This heat is making me grumpy. I feel huge - anyone else suffering?

demonskitz · 05/07/2010 17:15

artyparty yeah the heat is making me melt, I've bought one of those handheld fans, and I wasn't feeling huge until a lady at the checkout in Asda asked when I was due and then said "ooh, you're big already, are you having twins?" .. cheeky cow! lol She was such a sweet old lady though I felt I couldn't tell her off!

Re vitamins, the only thing I am taking now is super strength Vit C and Zinc because I get so many colds and pregnancy has annihilated my feeble immune system! Also some Omega 3, but it took me ages to find some kiddies chewable ones with not too much vit A in them. I am rubbish at swallowing pills and the omega 3 ones for 'grown ups' look so huge I'm sure they're meant for your bum! lol ;) Oh I'm also taking some homeopathic pills which are Iron Phosphate to stop me having nosebleeds which just randomly started at about week 18 and I had one every day! The Magical Homeopathic pills have stopped that though and I also read online that it's sort of the homeopathic version of an iron supplement as well, which would be doubly good!

Is anyone else weirded out by all the wiggling the baby does? I know I'm supposed to be happy and reassured or something but now the wiggling has got stronger it sort of tickles and feels so weird that it's really distracting! I think maybe I've just watched Aliens too many times :0

Mama2Monkeys · 06/07/2010 13:04

Sorry if missed anything. Been on hol 2wks. 21wks . This pregnancy seems to be flying by. Had scan yesterday. Was fab and the lady really took time to explain and show us everything. Ohh and baby is a boy. Me and DH decided if 100% sure of gender to know the gender this time. Didnt know with DS and DD.

Things great with baby but I do need to go back at 32wk for another scan. The placenta is near the exit but not blocking it IYSWIM. Hope it moves as dont really want a Caesarean. I've had 2 vaginal births and was considering a water birth this time after DD surprise home birth. Of course there is the recovery time too with 3 kids to look after. Will just have to see.

Must go as at work. Being at work is pants but on a good note it is rest after 2wks of 24X7 with 2 kids and hubby .

fireflyz · 06/07/2010 17:01

Hi there
Just had 20 week scan - was such a relief to see our baby's alright! It's an incredible experience. I can understand why someone'd pay for the 3D one - it's just the best and most exciting and wonderful thing.

Really feel so happy

I'm finding the food situation is so much better these last few days as well, thank goodness. Have rediscovered a few new things to try - spinach and ricotta quiche is the favourite at the moment. Even dared to have some marinaded anchovies yesterday! Trying to boost baby's brain (and maybe mine!) Ah, variety, at last...

Tx for all your comments re vitamins.
I went to the local chemist the other day, all prepared to shell out for pregnacare, but the pharmacist there said, check with your midwife! I was expecting to make a purchase and felt oddly disappointed!!! (shopaholic, moi ?!) But it was good of her to not try to push me into anything, and so I'm going to ask at my next MW appointment later this week I think... or is it next... argh need more anchovies...

fireflyz · 08/07/2010 21:56

Hi everyone

Just noticed today at our work canteen that the salad I was eating (trying to be healthy) had barely been washed! Thankfully I think / hope I spotted the worst offenders before I ate them, but, what if I have eaten a few bits of dirty salad by mistake?

Another question for you -
I've read that hair removal creams are not recommended for use in pregnancy because the ingredients could/can (can't remember which) cross through the skin and their effects are not known. Is anyone using them anyway?
I do not want to shave my bikini line! And I have a bit of a fear of going to salons after being nearly burnt during a hot waxing treatment.
Comments and advice welcome!

fireflyz · 08/07/2010 21:59

PS it was the celery that was the worst - full of black grime.
Am furious actually.
Surely they're supposed to wash the salad that goes in the salad bar.
GRRRRR

fireflyz · 09/07/2010 14:56

Me again!
Is everyone on holiday?!!!

Have decided that even if I did eat a few bits of grubby celery yesterday, it's done now, and it probably will be OK.
Will be bringing my own salads to work in future though in a coolbox.

Hope everyone on here is doing OK despite the heat.

EMS23 · 09/07/2010 16:04

Hi fireflyz, sorry for my non responsiveness - this heat is making me really forgetful! Or maybe it's the pregnancy, I'm not sure. Yesterday, words just seemed to have fallen out of my head - it took me 4 attempts to remember what that the tickets in my hand were raffle tickets!!

FWIW, I don't think you need to worry too much about the dirt on the salad, although it is pretty minging. Your own salads brought in will be far tastier anyway.

I don't know about hair removal creams as I'm a shaver but if you're worried steer clear and go natural! Not sure your DP will thank you for that though!

demonskitz · 09/07/2010 19:58

Hey Fireflyz, sorry to hear about the shoddy salad! It is a bit much that they can't be arsed to wash it! I'm sure if you're ok now though it won't have hurt. I kept eating soft serve ice cream for ages because my theory was "who the hell has ever got food poisoning from an ice cream van?" Until I found like the one person who knew someone who had.. so now I have to be good and have something that isn't a 99 ~sigh~

Re hair removal cream - I've used some on my face since for some reason early pregnancy gave me such a moustache! lol damn hormones! However that bizzare side effect has gone away so I've not used it recently. My bikini line is probably totally wild, I can't even see it any more so I've stopped caring! lol My OH has agreed though that he will tidy it up for me before I am due, since I wont be able to see what I am doing!! Most of the sensitive creams for your face/bikini line have less nasty stuff in than the full-on creams, but I suppose if you're not sure then just use razors or something.
