did I wee myself in my sleep? (37weeks)

My bladder is a bit weaker lately but I've never done this!
I was dreaming and suddenly in my dream I was having a wee, I'm unsure if this made me do it, or if I could just feel (dare I say it) waters breaking so my dream converted that to me weeing??
I wasn't overly desperate for the toilet when I woke up, but I was totally wet (god so embarrasing).
Went to the bathroom and still couldnt tell what it was, saw no colour or smell.

I'm so confused.
My water never broke naturally with previous children so I don't know what to expect.

Is there anyway to know what it was? The hospital is so far away and it's quite impractical to go until friday, I have things to do, transportation and childcare issues, etc.
Nothing like this can happen until I'm 38 weeks, that's how I planned it!

It might be urine, it might be amniotic fluid. You need to get checked out I think.

Well according to One Born Every Minute last night, amniotic fluid has a disctinct smell. Maybe if you called your midwife she could come round to yours and let you know.

Put a pad in your knickers, if it was your waters going you are likely to get more leaks as you move around. Then ring your midwife/hospital.

Morning wee is usually a lot darker and stronger smelling because it's concentrated, so if it was clear and didn't smell, there's a chance it could be your waters. Amniotic fluid is supposed to have a sweet smell. Have you any saved, on your bedclothes/sheets? mw could test it if you're worried.

In fact, what wittyname said, put a pad on. The fluid should keep leaking if it's your waters.

Yeah I heard it keeps coming if it's waters, and that hasnt happened, there is some in the wash basket on a sheet, washer hasnt been turned on yet.
How can they test it?

I don't want to worry everyone unnecessarily, especially when it turns out to be wee

it was 2am and i has a glass of water at 10.30...

anyway I followed your advice and put on one of those ginormous maternity pads on, lol just incase, it will be easier to take pad to docs than sheet I guess :-)

They can do like a litmus test to see if it's waters or wee. Don't be embarassed, you aren't the first, there are loads of threads like this in the archives.

Have a sniff of the sheet. You will know what urine smells like even if you don't know what amniotic fluid smells like.

I smelt it and couldnt smell anything!
I need to stop drinking so much water, then I'll have more yellow urine to distinguish easier

Oh great now I'm having period type pains, but that's probably in my head.

It's too early and I haven't had a show, i had shows with both previous births.

I guess I'll just wait and see what happens.

My waters went in a slow trickle with my DS - and I only had mild aches the rest of that day. It was only that evening that I got the 'gush' part. Like you, I'd woken up and my bed was damp.

I don't remember at any point having a show either, so keep an eye on that pad!

Ooh! are you sure it's in your head? not all labours are the same, you may not have seen your show this time, or maybe it's dislodged and just waiting to make its way down?

I thought I'd wet myself when my waters went. It wasn't a gushing thing - just a sharp pain and then a trickle of water. I put a pad in and after walking round for half an hour I realised the pad was wet so unless I'd suddenly become completely incontinent it was waters. It then went a bit pinkish and I knew then it definately wasn't wee.

Definitely keep an eye on it.

Hospital sent me home, and I had to go back 24hrs later because labour hadn't started. Is there a midwife more local to you that you could go and see, just to put your mind at rest?

Both my boys were overdue before.

I'm going to a parent and tots group this afternoon at a surestart centre where there's a midwife. But I just asked to change midwives yesterday because I felt she wasn't very pro-homebirth so I'm reluctant to now go to her incase she's offended over that, arg.
So maybe I'll just wait for something bigger to happen..?

in my area as long as you are past 37 weeks you shold be able to have a homebirth... not sure about your area..

yes i did the super house tidy and the bikini line with a mirror thing (tres elegant......)

Rock hard belly is a contraction (I'm sure I read that during a real contraction your belly would feel as hard as your forehead, but if it's braxton hicks it'd only feel as hard as the tip of your nose - this probably only works if you haven't got a thick layer of flab on your stomach like me!)

Think you need to make some just-in-case plans sharpish, love!

Erm, call the midwife. My fluid didn't smell either.
