My period is now 2 days late, we are trying to get pregnant but I only just came off the pill in May. So I'm not sure if I'm pregnant or if my cycle is just going to be a bit longer.
I would like to do a test but I'm scared, silly I know since we are trying, don't want to waste money on a test just for it to come up negative, since they are quite expensive.
Should I wait a bit longer just to be sure? How long did you wait before doing a test?

Oh, I'm so impatient I did it when my period was only 1 day late and I got a faint positive with a Boots test, as have others on here quite early on, so I'd recommend those. Cheaper tests (I mean really cheap internet ones) gave me a negative.

Chinchilla · 21/06/2003 22:43

I bought a double test, and did the first one a few days after I was late. It was really faint, but positive. I 'phoned the company, and they said that it sounded like a postitve, but that it would be advisable to do another one a few days later. So, to cut a long story short, I would wait another week, to allow the hormones to get really strong before doing the test. That way, you will not waste £8.

Last month, I did not come on until day 38. I was not pregnant, just really down, and that put me out of sync. If you have just come off the pill, your cycle might be really out of whack too. There are so many things that can make you late, and, let's face it, 2 days is nothing really!

I know that it is hard when you are excited, but try to wait a little while longer. Oh yes...good luck too!

Angiel · 21/06/2003 22:48

I did one the day my period was due. I couldn't wait any longer. Try and wait if you can, but if you think you might be pregnant just do the test and put yourself out of your misery.

Freyah · 21/06/2003 23:09

I'm quite happy to wait an extra week and test then but at the same time I want to know, you all know what I mean, lol I'll probably wait a bit longer I know 2 days isn't very late really but it's scary and exciting all at the same time, lol

Totally agree! Whatever you decide, I hope it is the news you want!

Lindy · 22/06/2003 09:43

errrrrrrrr - 10 weeks ! I wasn't deliberately trying to get pregnant and had assumed I had left it too late at 42 and that I was starting the menopause!

futurity · 22/06/2003 10:09

2 days...was due on the Saturday took the test on Monday. Came up positive! Then took second test on Thursday..oh and then two more the week after (yes..I know...pointless but I was quite surprised that I got pregnant so quickly!)

motherinferior · 22/06/2003 10:41

first time round a week - but only because I was in Brussels and couldn't face trying to ask for a test in French; got very definite blue line; second time round, day I was due, and got faint blue line. Accurate both times (Boots tests).

Tinker · 22/06/2003 11:37

14 days after the event, wasn't sure when my period was due but thought I was about 5 days late. Don't think I was though. I got a positive. ClearBlue I think.

Ghosty · 22/06/2003 11:44

Three times ... on the day after I was due ... Clear Blue and all three times strong positive ...

Ghosty · 22/06/2003 11:55

I meant in three pregnancies ... not three times in one day (although I have done that too!)

binker · 22/06/2003 12:16

about 4 days - with a Clearblue - v strong blue line too- couldn't believe it so I did about 3 more !!

Rachael17 · 22/06/2003 13:42

i didnt do a test till i was actually 8 weeks then did two both positive and confirmed by the doctor
got tescos own (cheapest there) but still 99% proof

Janeway · 22/06/2003 17:06

bought a double test (Boots) did the first one when only a couple of days late (my cycle is like clockwork) and it came up immediately - dp was waiting outside the loo for me to come out so we could watch the result develop together but it happened so quick I called him in - he was bouncing about and didn't give me time to sort myself out (IYKWIM) before picking me up to hug me

  • still have the spare test....
Janeway · 22/06/2003 17:08

Oopps - got so carried away in remembering my storey I forgot to wish you luck Freyah - fingers crossed

pie · 22/06/2003 17:21

I did the test 2 days before my period was due, but I have quite a long cycle (usually bout 36 days) and I couldn't wait anymore. Even though I had my coil still in I knew I wasn't going to see my period anytime soon.

I used a generic 2 for £4.99 from the local chemist and have always found these work just as well as the more expensive ones for me.

Let us know how it goes Freyah!

I got a positive result using a Tesco test before my period was due.

SoupDragon · 22/06/2003 20:50

Both times, Clear blue on the day after my period was due. Obviously I then did several more just to be sure !!

Khara · 22/06/2003 21:02

With ds1 I waited about a week. It was the first month we'd been trying so I didn't really expect to be pregnant, but I was.

With ds2, I couldn't wait so it was the day BEFORE I was due. Even so it was very strongly positive - clearblue test I think. I was absolutely sure I was pregnant. Even though we'd been trying 9 months, this was the first time I'd bought a test.

webmum · 23/06/2003 14:23

same day, I couldn't wait, it was a strong positive

LadyP · 23/06/2003 14:32

9 days after due date of period

grommit · 23/06/2003 15:53

A few days before and still got a stong positive!

dcolagirl · 23/06/2003 15:55

2 days late and got a positive result. That was a clearblue test.

M2T · 23/06/2003 16:10

I wasn't late at all! But felt kind of funny. Did a clear blue and sure enough... it was CLEARLY blue!
