October 2010 babies?

Hi, I am a first-timer Mum to Be and Baby has been given a due date of 1 October. Very early dates still, so nervous and excited I cannot think about anything else! Planning not to tell family and friends till the first three months are over, but it's going to be tough!
Anyone else expecting an October baby out there?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Principle · 20/02/2010 14:12

15Weeks pregnant, first baby, due date 14th of August, finding it all very new.

Tryin to be organised and looking about reviews on prams/slings/reusable nappies, cots etc etc its an endless list!

Congrats to everyone else. X

JazzieJeff · 20/02/2010 17:59

Principle; welcome it'll be really interesting to get all your input with what happens because you're a bit earlier than me (only by 5 weeks I think?). Hope you're feeling well. Have you started showing properly yet?
Dilly; Thanks for the love I'm feeling it lol! You're right. At the end of the day, she'll have to come round at some point and it's useless going round thinking that I'm a failure or something because I'm clearly not. My Mum also has a history of depression (only found out recently) and found it really difficult to conceive me and babies in general have always been a bit of a sore point I think; maybe I should consider what I say to her a bit more
Thank you to everyone who wrote back with encouragement, it's a tricky issue sometimes isn't it?
God; the woman next door (we live in a flat) has been yelling at her kids all day. ALL DAY. Can it really be that hard? She went out earlier and I heard her, two floors down out on the pavement over my hoovering screaming at her eldest to 'get the f**k back here!'The eldest one has now learnt to tell Mummy to 'piss off', she discovered that about a week ago. Makes you wonder what went wrong!
Hermya; hope your MIL episode has calmed down for you now; you poor thing I'd be annoyed too. Although I think my MIL told all her friends etc, she lives too far away from us for it to make a difference really.
xxx

Hermya321 · 20/02/2010 18:07

Jazzie My DH had a word with her, and things kind of clicked and she realised what she had done. She's now very apologetic. I get the impression that DH feels that I just get over it instantly. It's really frustrating, it's different for guys isn't it they don't have the same emtional wiring as we do. So it does sometimes take a while to translate from 'girl' to 'guy'.
How thin are your walls though to get all that noise through.

Dilly I'm glad you slept well, I think you had my sleep last night. I'm hoping that because I'm so shattered that sleep will come easily for me tonight.

Principle · 20/02/2010 20:53

JazzieJeff - Yes starting to show now, so far though I haven't had any bad sickness, the occassional days of a little sickness but nothing awfull. Only thing Ive found is i burp now after eating and by allowing my self to burp a couple times after eating before i get up on the go I think/feel its helped me to not be sick.

JazzieJeff · 20/02/2010 20:56

Hermya, pleased you managed to work it out with your MIL! I think all men are the same, they just don't get it sometimes so they? Our walls are standard thickness but she just shouts REALLY loudly and she's so screechy you can hear her down the street. With the whole tiredness thing, I've taken to having a nap when I feel the need arise. That way even if I can't sleep I'm not shattered at work
Dilly, glad sleep is coming your way!
By the way, is it true about the mc risk reducing after 6 weeks? Can anyone confirm that for me? xxx

sophieandbelly · 21/02/2010 08:34

hi everyone, not sure about the risk reducing, havnt heard that one!

god mils ha, that is the reason y we havnt told dp side of family she will go on and on and on at my little dd. which will drive me mad!! and for some reason wil say told u told u (we didnt breathe a word to anyone that we were trying, she is the last person dp would tell) but like to tell the rest of family she was 'in on it' if u like!

harmful no, annoying defffinatly!

does anyone wke up with tummy ache?? i slept on my front till i was gone 5 months last time (not on intensional, just used to wake up like it) but i already feel as tho i cant!! strange

welcome effieb, i have a 2.4 dd, so holiday as u no wont be all rest, but she is very well behaved, doesnt run away etc, so i want to get one more holiday in, as nxt yr will be harder to go away (hoping to move) fingers crossed dp agrees its a no at the mo!!!

SilverSky · 21/02/2010 09:52

Morning all!

Did I mention I think my dates are wrong here? I am 5 weeks now not four!

I digress.

Woke up wide awake at 6, feeling a bit odd, eg bit tender round the abdomen and not comfy, so had to find a better position, then drifted back off til nearly 9am! I love a lie in.

Husband wants us to have a holiday over the summer. Any do's/don'ts? It will have to be a UK one prob. Tho I did say that lots of driving, depending on how far gone I am won't be that comfortable for me......

All advise welcome.

AllieW · 21/02/2010 10:33

Hello everyone! Hope I'm not tempting fate by posting here and that it's ok for me to join in. Just got three faint positives (one yesterday and two today). For me that's very special since it's my Mum's birthday today (she would have been 65 - she died when I was 13). Very happy! I think I'm due around 30th October. My little girl has just turned 2, so it will be a nice gap. Hope all's going well for everybody.

sophieandbelly · 21/02/2010 11:31

wow alliew amazing day for u! how far along r u? 4 weeks ish? that will be a lovely age gap, there will be 3 yrs and 7 days between my dd and new baby (if no 2 arrives on time!!) hope it doesnt put in an apperance on dd s bday!!

o silversky thats good a week on than what u thought love it wen that happends! closer to that 1st scan now eh!!

as far as holidays r concerned i wen away wen preg with dd, think i was 23/24 weeks. felt fine altho had the most herendous thrush while there had to use pesseries, and had a bleed (which was just the thrush but enough to scare the life out of me!) had the thrush b4 i left so same would have happend at home, phoned an nhs type number and all ok

i most def would suggest a hol, enjoy the last few months of each other, because life does change (for the better of course) but its also nice to go and have a week just enjoying each other x

next yr there will be a little bubba joining the holiday crew, with bottles bibs and shitty nappies!! hahaha cant wait!!

has anyone allowed them self to think forward to the 20 wk scan and would u like to no the sex of ur bubbas??

JazzieJeff · 21/02/2010 12:42

I would love to know the sex; I think it's good because you can kind of plan things a bit then and paint the nursary the right colour unless they make a mistake lol! Can you imagine? 'Oh no, it's not an umbilical cord!' How far away do you venture with your DD Sophie? Baby will be 10 months my next summer and I really fancy a foreign holiday. I'm not talking Barbados or something just somewhere that's reasonable and doesn't mind screaming kids at the pool haha!
SilverSky; I was thinking about taking a short UK break somewhere probably not too far away don't know where though I'll probably be waddling round like a duck
AllieW; that's lush about your baby! What a lovely story to tell when he/she gets older
I woke up with a funny crampy sensation this morning at about 6am and couldn't sleep; I was dead worried. It was more uncomfortable than painful; I hate using the words period cramp but it's almost what it was like, right in my lower abdomen and just feelingquite tender. It's hard to gauge your pain sensations next to anyone elses though...

AllieW · 21/02/2010 12:45

Hi sophieandbelly, yes about 4 weeks. I put my dates into the due date calculator and it's come out at 28th October, so earlier into the month than I had previously thought. I'm hoping Immy will be toilet trained by the time the new baby comes along, but we shall see!

There's 16 days between mine and my sister's birthday. Can I put in a plea, from experience, that you don't do joint birthday parties for them? I know it's extra work, but it used to drive me mad that everything had to be joint and we didn't have a special day to ourselves. Hope all goes well!

I think I would like to know the gender, purely because we found out with Immy and I want to be consistent!

AllieW · 21/02/2010 12:47

JazzieJeff: Yes, I was rather chuffed!

Hope your cramp eases soon. A not-too-hot hot water bottle might help?

DillyDora · 21/02/2010 16:56

Hi All,

Just sneaking on... DH is taking the DSS back to their Mum and I always used to use this hour to belt round and clean the house (it's a small flat! ) but I had a v funny turn earlier in the day so I am trying to slow down (before I fall down!).

Welcome Alliew, your story made me cry - o those pg hormones!!!

Jazzie and everyone, we were umming and ahing about finding out the sex last night just as we drifted off to sleep and we're both kind of not bothered. The only reason I mind much is that we have some, um, genetic/developmental issues to consider and a girl would be 'better' for us but hey, we'll roll with whoever we get, however they are.

AllieW I wanted to ask about hot water bottles for the funny cramps (which seem to happen when I eat, the bigger the meal the worse they are but right low down in my abdomen) - is it really ok, just not too hot?

Principle I'm with you on the burping! Just have to move more slowly in general after a meal I think.

O, and now that sleep is here I can do little else! Another rocking 8 hours last night plus an afternoon nap - heaven. Sympathies to all those with disrupted sleep, it's horrid.
xx

Hermya321 · 21/02/2010 17:18

Afternoon all!! Well it snowed round my way again which was very annoying as I had to drive in it. Driving at speed with the head lights bouncing off the snow flakes wasn't good. It made me feel so ill, I almost thought I would be pulling over to be sick into a hedge. My poor car has become even more pathetic. I put some oil in it and then went to put the bonnet down, and the bonnet catch broke. I had to drive home with plastic bags holding down the bonnet. I tell ya, it's the latest look! You'll be seeing it in Paris and Milan before you know it, and just think you saw it on MN first.

On the other note, my battle with the pringles craving continues.

Dilly I'm very over your sleep, I think your having mine at the moment. I'll let you off this time though .

Allie Congratulations and welcome to the thread!! Sweet way of finding out as well, how special for you guys!!

Jazzie Hows life at work treating you? Yeah I'm glad as well, although initially I was upset. I feel like I can see the funny side of it now. She wasn't malicous or glory hogging when she did it, it was out of pure excitment. It was lovely speaking with her though. She's been scouring the internet already. I asked her if she'd bought anything, she said she wasn't telling me. Your nieghbour sounds like an interesting one though.

Sophie I can't wait to find out, I'm putting my money on a DS with this one and I want to see if my instints are on the money. If I'm wrong, I'm gonna blame it on the placenta brain.

Silver I've had that as well, I think it's just our bodies adjusting themselves to the LO.

sophieandbelly · 21/02/2010 20:30

jazz- we went to spain over her 1sy bday, excellent holiday, bit of a pain as she way just trying to walk so wanted to escape on plane and last yr went to greece 2 weeks b4 her 2nd bday, she was so well behaved made the whole thing so enjoyable, def plan on going again (if i get my way!!)

alliew.. my neice and dd r 5 days apart and had a joint 1st bday, but that was a one off, i wouldnt do joint ones as they will b 2 far apart in age if they r just 12 mnth apart its ok for few yrs, but it would b unfair to my dd most of all as she would understand, lind of hope there is more than a week between them! (again wishing to go over due!! putting off the inevatable!!)

i did not find out sex off dd, and dont plan to find out sex of this one, have no strong feeling either way, and if i did i wouldnt trust it !! last time i was sure she was a he! 'hes kicking, hes moving etc' and then dd arrived [shocked]

went to cinema on a 'date' today!! dd played at aunties house and me and dp went to see avatar excellent film, altho the 3d glasses did nothing to help sickness!!!

iam am sure u all no but ..... ur uterus is usually the size of small fist and at 7 weeks its the size of a grapefruit at least, so totally normal to feel the stretching pulling, period type aches theres alot going on in there!! hope that helps i am off to collapse,

fingers crossed my bad skin and lank hair that i seem to have aquired this week puts dp of wanting a bit!!!

JazzieJeff · 21/02/2010 21:19

OMG Sophie my hair is disgusting. I washed it and straightened is this morning and this afternoon it's totally gross and all floppy and lank also thought my skin was supposed to 'glow', except I seem to have a worse breakout than the local high school netball team Thanks for the holiday advice; only hope I can make my kid as well behaved as yours!
Hermya; I think my car beats yours in the pathetic stakes. Whenever I put the hot air on to try and melt some of the Arctic style ice on my windscreen, it coughs out some frozen dust and freezes it a little more. I need a new car; it's only 3 and a half years old but I don't think a 3 door is going to cut it with a wriggling baby. I've heard getting a baby into a car seat is like trying to get an octopus into a string bag...
Dilly; how come you'd like a girl? Is it because you already have boys? Hope this doesn't come out wrong; just curious
xxx

sophieandbelly · 22/02/2010 09:42

ah just because i have one that is good doesnt mean the next will!! (fingers crossed tho)

i didnt get 'the glow' until well into 5th month, just lank hair coldsores and spots dont be fooled girls some of us dont get that glowing thing!!!! fingers crossed tho because i am looking rough at the moment, mayb cos most of my time i am feeling rank, its impossible 4 it not to show!!

any foods people r craving?? iam into salty lately

ellabella2 · 22/02/2010 11:25

Sophieandbelly yay, we have reached that 7 week goalpost Feels good eh? The thought of 3D glasses makes me feel very green. You were brave! I loved Avatar though.

Pregnancy Yoga - great, looks like there might be a few of us looking to do this. We will be able to swap tips

Holidays - we are taking peoples advice about making the most of this last bit of adult only time and looking to go somewhere hot in May/June time. Maybe Greece. Hopefully I will be in that 'blooming' stage with a nive little bump Not sure if I like the idea of a bikini though, maybe a tankini?

Symptom watch - how are people's symptoms? My cramps seems to have eased off over the last few days to be replaced with feeling hungover and waves of nausea! Eating regularly seems to help, even if I don't have much of an appetite. Plain carbs, cheese, fresh fruit all taste good at the moment. Still off chocolate

Jazzie I have a 3 door too. Am in denial that it will be OK! It's a lease car through work so I'm sort of stuck with it for another 18 months.

DillyDora · 22/02/2010 14:04

Hi All

Spots - OMG - carbuncles! On my face and back...yeugh! 'Nuff said.

Jazzie well, my dss are on the autistic spectrum so before we went about ttc we went to see a genetics specialist. Our chances of having a baby with problems as severe as the ds who has more severe autism are about 5% but of course autism is much less common (like much less) in girls, so that's it. I realise reading this might be really difficult for some of you to read/understand but where there are problems potentially genetic in origin we felt that it makes sense to try to prepare as much as possible and not to take major risks, but not to abandon hope of having a baby at all. And I suppose that's why I wish a little bit more for a girl. It isn't always easy for my dss you know, they struggle and get sad. Of course there are a million billion other totally unrelated things that could happen especially to do with me being older so... y'know, it's all unknown really isn't it? Also the dss were twins and 10 wks premature and of course I'm a completely new element in the mix so it's all complicated.

sophieandbelly thanks for reassuring words on crampy, stretchy sensations!

Anyway, ho hum there we are. Symptoms, I'm mostly fine but tired and I get very lightheaded. I'm fine if I do everything at half speed really! I marched out of the door to work this morning and felt really rough again and I'm sure it was from rushing about.

Very envious of all these holidays! We shall have to book something up!

Renaissancewoman · 22/02/2010 16:17

Hi all.

I did my test in a public loo last week with my husband outside waiting!!

I'm due on 16/10. It will be my 4th and I'm feeling out of control and very unsure of what I am doing, this one was not planned although I had not ruled out a 4th. I'd have just liked to have completed the thought process before getting to this stage, hey ho...

Congratulations to you all and to those who join us.

Hermya321 · 22/02/2010 17:23

Afternoon all, nice to hear that you're all doing well. On sympton watch, I still have cramps and my skin has suddenly cleared in the last two days. I'm not banking on it staying like that. Sickness and nausea as well plus I'm shattered all the time.

Jazzie Oh I'm sorry about your hair and skin, it's never nice when that happens. I think your car does win in the pathectic stakes contest. I love the analogy about the octopus and the string bag.

Ellabella Yeah I'm looking forward to pregnancy yoga as well. I'm starting to have a craving to go swimming as well. Hmmm must be the hormones.

DillyDora Wow you did prepare for this one didn't you. Did it scare you when you started to think about trying?

Renaissance That is quite a memorable place to find out your expecting, welcome to the thread. I'm sorry that you're feeling out of control. I hope it gets better for you in the coming weeks.

Hi All

Welcome to Renaissancewoman and Muggle1978 Renaissance - love the story about the test. Sorry you feel so wonky, I think maybe it's par for the course? I felt so freaked out when I found out even though we had been ttc - maybe in a way it's even harder if you've had others as you know what you're letting yourself in for?! Anyway, I hope you feel better soon.

Muggle all the teachers on the thread have said the same as you!

I forgot to tell you guys, I was facilitating sessions today and really needed to pee all the time so I had to keep making up excuses to leave the room and belt down the corridor! Argh!

Hermya Yes, big scared, but I didn't want children at all until I met dh so I was going through a whole giant process anyway. It's really hard to talk to your lovely one about risks of conceiving a 'not normal' (sorry) child and you have all sorts of very honest conversations! The consultant in the genetics service was amazing though and dh has been a total hero about it. Don't get me wrong, my dss are brilliant, but you know - having a baby is a pretty selfish thing to do really and I don't know, I just couldn't go into it blind. Interestingly (and not to freak anyone out) I asked about eczema and asthma as I'm asthmatic and my chances of passing that on are as high as 50% - just to give you an idea of relative risk - but happily if I can breastfeed for at least 6 months and preferably a year it gives the baby a chance of being protected against them. It's a really complicated business all this genetics gubbins but there are some brilliant services out there.

Sorry! long post!

Oddly enough I also have a craving to go swimming! But public pools are 'orrible! If I only I were rich ;0)

xx

brockleyD · 22/02/2010 19:57

Hi Everybody,

Congratulations to you all! I am due in October too! The 17th! (I think). Its my first pregnancy and I am quite young, only 27 and haven't really had any symptoms. All I have had mild period like cramps and occasional gagging but not nausea, is this normal? I am worried that I don't have more symptoms....

x

JazzieJeff · 22/02/2010 21:12

Welcome Brockley, Renaissance and Muggle! Hope you're all feeling well. Brockley; I think most of us have had cramps to varying degrees so nothing to worry about there
Dilly; So sorry to hear about your DSS; that must be so difficult. I think sometimes that it's harder for the adults who love them so much. At least your chances of a similar situation are slim, you sound like you've done your homework! Do you mind if I ask your age? I'm not going to judge; I tend to be fairly sceptical about age related disorders you know. I don't think it helps with media scares going off every ten seconds telling us all we're going to give our children brain damage if we so much as add salt to our cooking...
Hermya; I'm horribly jealous of your clear skin! Send some nice skin and reasonable hair vibes my way... please!
Hope everyone is feeling well tonight xx
