October 2010 babies?

Hi, I am a first-timer Mum to Be and Baby has been given a due date of 1 October. Very early dates still, so nervous and excited I cannot think about anything else! Planning not to tell family and friends till the first three months are over, but it's going to be tough!
Anyone else expecting an October baby out there?

nomorewine · 22/02/2010 21:39

Can I join you?
I found out I was expecting again exactly 2 weeks ago. Was a bit of a shock as wasn't planned. Had missed a few pills but thought at my age of 37 that chances of getting pregnant so easily would be slim...Seems I was wrong!

I have two DS's already, aged 10 & nearly 7, but this will be the first with my DP. We have been together 2.5 years now, but are not yet living together (although plan to very soon now!) so timing wasn't great, but time isn't on my side at my age so not stressing too much about it. Think my due date will be Oct 14th, which is actually my DP's 40th birthday!

Dreading telling my family as they took a long time to get over my marriage break up & are still very friendly with ex h, so don't think they will approve. My dad is also very old fashioned so will probably be disgusted!

My eldest DS was diagnosed on the autistic spectrum in the summer so I empathise with you Dilly. Can be tough can't it?
Really can't imagine myself having a girl though as used to carrying boys!

My symptoms seem to come & go. Had a week of the metallic taste but that seems to have gone now, also felt a little sick at times (comes & goes through the day) & had a lot of wind which kept me up most of last night!

My DP is away this week on a skiing holiday with friends, and I am so worried that something will happen when he is away. Worrying quite a bit because of my age & it being early days, so would be good to be able to talk to others in the same situation as me.

Hermya321 · 23/02/2010 05:49

Dilly It sounds as if you covered all your basies before you went about getting pregnant. Thats quite admirable. As you say, it is a scary thing for you but it sounds as if you've done as much preparation as you can. It took me and DH several billion conversations before we got to that place of thinking 'oh alright then'. To be honest DH was ready way before I met him, it was me who had to get my head round the idea and well you can probably guess the rest.

Brockley Cramps are normal, it seems that everyone has had them in one form or another here. Welcome to the thread!!!

Muggle Welcome to the the thread!!! Could there be an imaginary stack of paper that you need to go and get one piece at a time during the day?

DillyDora · 23/02/2010 09:15

Morning all!

Hermya whatever time do you get up in the morning!? Yeah, I was like you - DH was right there and after initial enthusiasm I calmed down and went back off the idea so he had to win me over again

Jazzie and nomorewine I'm 37! nomore I know what you mean about the age thing, it's a worry. But then as DH points out and as Jazzie says there is so much scaremongering going on which doesn't help. Also, about your DS - better to have the diagnosis I think as it means he can get extra support at school and so on which is so necessary and can make the world of difference. Still a shock though. He's almost the same age as my dss! They're 10 this summer. It's hard to be going through this early bit with the dp or dh away - I had the first week after the test on my own which is when I found mumsnet, would have gone mad without it!

Bit uncle dick (sick) this morning, but wfh thank god!
have a great day everyone
xx

Spoof · 23/02/2010 10:39

Hi all,

Found out yesterday that I'm pg with no 3. HUGE shock, we weren't trying and DH had said previously he's not ready for another one. (Money etc).

Due 22nd Oct I think. Feel quite nauseous. Don't know if that is the worry or the pg.

I too am worrying about something going wrong, having had 2 fairly straightforward pgs and births and never having had a m/c.

Nomorewine, I think I'm in the same place as you are, iykwim?

sophieandbelly · 23/02/2010 10:53

DillyDora · 23/02/2010 11:27

Hi

Welcome Spoof (& Brockley sorry - didn't say hi before).

Ms here today for the first time really but just seem to have managed to get it in abeyance with (in this order) lemon & ginger tea, 2 jacob's crackers (buy shares in these, ladies!)warm bath, spoonful of apfelmuss (pureed apple from Germany). Thank god, as it turns out I am an ms wuss!

Money worries - shoot me now. DH got made redundant last year and is building his own business which of course is a slow process.

Ah well...
xx

FutureMum · 23/02/2010 11:28

My 'morning' sickness hasn't eased off... Due on big, once-on-a-lifetime trip in 4 and a half weeks and keeping fingers crossed I will feel better then.
The only thing that helps is eating every 2-3 hours, and avoiding sudden movements (eg. bending) if stomach is empty. Feeling extremely picky about food, most things unappetising but every few days I add another food to my diet, sometimes healthy stuff, I can now eat Weetabix hooray!
Still totally off chocolate and soup.
Looking forward to the end of sickness so I don't have to eat so often.

Spoof · 23/02/2010 11:47

I've always found eating apples helps.
I have also, in the past, sucked lemons

DillyDora · 23/02/2010 13:18

Hello futuremum! Trip sounds amazing. Weetabix sounds even better ;0) - dh is laughing at me.

Yes, spoof I'm going to keep on the apples, I kind of know what you mean about the lemons...not sure I can actually face doing it though.

Hermya321 · 23/02/2010 13:57

dilly I was up to go to work this morning, there would be no other reason for me to be up that early. I've had terrible ms today and feel quite horrid. I'm attempting the ginger and lemongrass drink route, so far it's not working.

Spoof · 23/02/2010 14:48

Last pg - sucking lemons, or ginger soaked in vinegar was great for the nausea....! I believe it's an acquired taste though

nomorewine · 23/02/2010 15:40

I didn't really get MS with my other two, so I am hoping to escape it again. I do have moments of feeling a bit green though - they seem to come & then go away again through the day.

Are any of you finding that you really don't know what you fancy to eat?
I am finding it hard to find myself drawn to meals I would usually love. Will also boil the kettle (used to have loads of cups of tea) & then think "I really don't want tea!"

Spoof · 23/02/2010 15:48

I was feeling like that the last week, but didn't know why doh!

I'm trying to cut down on tea (not difficult with the bouts of nausea). Depletes iron a bit i believe.

nomorewine · 23/02/2010 16:04

My whole family are in Florida for 3 weeks (not that I have told any of them) & DP is away until late Saturday. I got myself in quite a state worrying about something happening this week (as in miscarriage) & me being totally on my own.

I have told one other friend, who happens to be a newly qualified midwife, so she has made me a MW appointment for the 12th March.
Not telling anyone else just yet though, although think one of my friends has suspitions due to me not drinking at a recent work do. (I am always known for liking a wine or two!)
Are most of you going to try to keep it quiet for a while yet?

DillyDora · 23/02/2010 17:26

nomorewine I am exactly like you with the food - I don't fancy anything, not even my beloved tea and a biscuit . I also got utterly freaked out when dh was away and we had only just found out.

Now I've told my mum and bro and some close girlfriends and am just desperately trying to keep it quiet at work, I feel so odd that I don't know how people don't notice!

spoof ginger soaked in vinegar???? Um....ok...I'll try pretty much anything, and anyway, ginger beer is going to rot my teeth!

Hermya were you up extra early? I mean, do you normally get up that early? I had a really bad bout of ms on a day when I had to get up extra early for an appointment, it obvioulsy threw me right off... It is so awful, I really feel for you.

Right, got to go and meet a friend - must remember, can't spend the whole nine months snoozing....damn!
xx

clpsmum · 23/02/2010 17:31

Evening all, how is everything in bumps of the future land? I've been really tired today, and felt really off. My sense of smell has gotten really sensitive and the oddest things are knocking me off. It's not nice, and my favourite tea now tastes weird.

Dilly No not up extra early, just up for earlies at work. It's not been nice this week as I've felt horrid each morning. I think it has affected me more than I thought. Mind you, I've always been an night owl so I've never really got on with getting up at the crack of dawn.

Muggle I can sympathise, I can't get comfy at the mo. I'm either shivering or sweating like a bad un so to speak.

Clpsmum and sillybus Welcome to the thread and congratulations!!

nomorewine Yeah I'm eating on the spot so to speak, I normally make my lunch for work but I get to eat and don't really want it. Weird huh!

Spoof Congratulations!!!

Sophie Erghh! I can sympathise, I never like late shifts.

For those of us in week 5, apparently baby gets a spinal cord and a circulatory system this week. How cool is that!

AllieW · 23/02/2010 20:26

Dilly Sorry to reply so late. I never had a problem with a warm hot-water bottle, so I presume it's safe!

Has anybody else started early with the cravings? All I seem to want atm is fish and pasta.

Plus, for some surreal reason, I seem to be getting a lot colder than usual. I thought pregnancy was supposed to make you hotter?

Hermya321 · 23/02/2010 22:29

Allie I've been the same, I think the hormones send you all out of wack. I read on another thread that this was a sympton of early pregnancy. I've been craving pringles.

AllieW · 24/02/2010 09:17

Ah, well that's a relief. I thought I was going mad! Maybe it's a circulation thing.

DillyDora · 24/02/2010 09:59

Morning All,

I was getting really cold too - better now but I thought I was poorly for a bit there.

Hermya oooh I know what you mean about the tea. I so miss my lovely cuppa....

Thanks Allie the crampy business has stopped pretty much now.

Erm...everyone can I ask a really daft question? You know the weeks? I'm not sure how to calculate them - for example, my period started on a Thursday so that's Week 1 isn't it so do my weeks run from Thursday to Thursday? Apologies for being a thickie

Welcome and congratulations to clpsmum and sillybus!
xx

AllieW · 24/02/2010 10:12

Dilly Your weeks run from Thursday to Thursday but you count from the second Thursday onwards (since you would only have been one day pregnant, as they determine it, at that point), i.e. second Thursday = one week pregnant, third Thursday = two weeks pregnant and so on.

DillyDora · 24/02/2010 10:20

Allie Thank you! That's a real help. Right so... I am ..wait for it... 6 weeks pregnant tomorrow. Gosh, that's not many weeks at all...lots to go! At least I will look like I have half a clue now when I speak to the dr/mw!
