Is anyone having a drink this Christmas?

I am 27 weeks and wondering if it's ok to have a glass of champagne on Christmas day. I know people generally say it's ok but think the guilt might ruin the taste!

I am! I'm having a small glass of the fizzy stuff on Christmas Day (am 32 weeks) and I can't wait.

MamaLazarou · 23/12/2009 14:20

Go for it, and enjoy it - don't you dare feel guilty. Have two!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 23/12/2009 14:21

Go for it, one glass won't hurt. A bottle might.

I'll be having a glass of something, just the one, mind.

BAUBLEnod · 23/12/2009 14:21

I was about the same as you last year and had a couple of glasses of champers on Christmas day - twas lovely. DS was born in April and he's perfect (IMHO)

When I found out I was pregnant my GP said just carry on as normal - you'd have to drink A LOT to have any kind of impact on the baby so as long as you're sensible (and it sounds like you are) you'll be fine.

Happy Christmas and congratulations

rubyslippedonastraymincepie · 23/12/2009 14:22

if you want to have a glass of something then do it BUT only if you won't feel guilty after

i had the odd glass of wine or beer with food in both my pregnancies

kay1980 · 23/12/2009 14:23

I'm 28 weeks and will be having a glass of wine on christmas day and a glass of champers on new year. It's fine in moderation as long as you don't go mad and have a whole bottle so don't feel guilty at all! I used to drink guinness when I was pregnant with my first DD and she was fine

myfirstbump · 23/12/2009 14:23

I'm saving myself on the bubbly for a lovely late afternoon thimble of port... Am 18 weeks and can't wait!

Rindercella · 23/12/2009 14:26

I'm 27 weeks pg too and I most certainly will be having a glass of the old champers on Christmas day.

hippopo · 23/12/2009 14:27

I am a bit undecided. I will be 12 weeks exactly and would really love a glass of champagne. If I was further a long I may be more relaxed about it and prob would.

My main prob would be the worry and guilt afterwards (it's in my nature).

I meant to ask the midwife today for her opinion but forgot.

Undecided.

You have convinced me!! Actually feel more like a half pint of Leffe or Hoegarden - isn't that stuff like rocket fuel though?

I'll be having a glass or 2 with xmas dinner. I've had a glass of wine most weekends with this pregnancy (once I got rid of the MS!) and also did in my last.....didn't cause me any problems.

lumpasmelly · 23/12/2009 16:28

Absoultely!! I had 1 or 2 small glasses of wine a week in both my last 2 pregnancies, once I have passed the first trimester (when i was too sick to want any)......both my midwife, and the chief honcho guy at the fetal medical centre were fine of it (the "no alcohol" rule is only as the powers that be don't trust women to know when to stop......)

GeorgieBeans · 23/12/2009 16:32

My specialist told me that 5 units spread throughout the week was fine (exact quote: "half of France wouldn't exist otherwise"). I've stuck to that throughout my completely trouble-free pregnancy. On holiday at 24 weeks I had a glass of wine every evening (one day with a glass of champers as well) - and he had a massive growth spurt when we got home! Half a Leffe or Hoegaarden will be no more potent than a glass of wine.

nickytwotimes · 23/12/2009 16:33

I'll be having one or two wee ones over the festive season. Not my usual bottle of Baileys to myself though.

bogie · 23/12/2009 16:44

I won't but I don't drink very much anyway so it dosen't make much difference that I am preg.

notnowbernard · 23/12/2009 16:49

Definitely will have a glass of vino with my Dinner!

If I didn't feel so sick I'd prob have a Bailey's tonight while I wrap the rest of the presents

Am 8 weeks with no.3

mistletoekisses · 23/12/2009 17:22

I would love to. But the guilt will spoil the feeling for me. So am planning to abstain. But should be fairly easy, having a very low key xmas at nearly 37 weeks gone. No one else will be drinking either!!

But enjoy yours!

LEMONADEGIRL · 23/12/2009 17:48

I am 29 weeks and will definatly be having 1 glass on Christmas day. Have had a few glasses a week in this pregnancy as I did with DS - who turned out fine btw.

I think most things in moderation are fine but if you feel guilty and worry afterwards then don't do it.

tinylion · 23/12/2009 17:51

ooo I'm going to! I had a tiny glass of white wine last night and the acid indigestion/nausea calmed down a bit (am 20 weeks)

A glass of champers every day (we're going to a posh hotel for 3 days over Christmas).

My GP sister in law merrily drank a large glass of red wine EVERY night in the last 2 weeks before her baby was born. Only way she said she could get to sleep....

bearcrumble · 23/12/2009 18:29

Probably not. I'm 28 weeks and have only had one drink all pregnancy - half a guinness just after the 12 week scan when we were told everything looked ok. I didn't actually finish it, because I was feeling guilty.

I used to have a bit of a drink problem so it has all these connotations for me, I wouldn't feel comfortable drinking even though I know the odd unit here and there isn't going to hurt.

bigpreggybelly · 23/12/2009 18:52

I definitely will be having a glass of champagne on Christmas Day! Enjoy it and don't feel guilty about it.

mollybob · 23/12/2009 18:55

nice glass of red with my turkey - definitely - 18 weeks here

MrsBadger · 23/12/2009 18:57

yes

can highly recommend mulled wine that has been boiled hard to drive off most of the alcohol [slurp]

KateM77 · 23/12/2009 21:24

Yes, I'll definitely have a glass of something. I've read in several places that 1-2 units once or twice a week is fine, so have been sticking within that since first trimester (when I felt too sick to contemplate alcohol!)

wibblela · 23/12/2009 22:16

I haven't had any alcohol yet (am 20 weeks) but I will definitely have some baileys over Christmas! DH and I are normally teetotal, but always indulge over the festive season

My advice (not a professional or anything) only have some if you are not going to feel guilty - you want to be able to enjoy what you have!
