I am suffering SPD (for the second time) and just need to vent without driving everyone else on my pregnancy thread mental. Not that they aren't supportive but I still have 20 weeks to go and I don't want to ruin their pregnancies by talking about mine!

Please come and join me so I don't feel so alone, and feel free to share tips if you have any....

Hi mampam. Yes I have been a member since last pregnancy. It is definitely worth joining. They will phone or email with really helpful responses to questions.

fetaqueen · 06/01/2010 17:12

I get hot in bed too.. but the I use hot water bottles to help with the pain so thats no surprise really...

Good luck tomorrow 7DW.. hope it all goes ok.

I've been sat outside on a stool today watching my DD and DH play in the snow and wasnt cold...

7DW - Im also on countdown.. Have a very long 19 says to go. Starting to feel like I dont want to talk to my friends... they seem more excited than I am and keep telling me its not long now... still feels like eternity.

fetaqueen · 08/01/2010 15:04

Hey its Friday ... where is everyone?

7DW - id you have your baby yesterday?

Hows everyone coping with the snow?

How is everyone in general?

Ive been told my aby doesnt have much fluid round it so need to go for more regular scans.... bit tricky but I will do it.

Love to everyone...

7DW - oh how exciting thinking of you, soon you will have a beautiful little newborn in your arms and all memories and pain of the SPD will go, everything crossed for you

fetaqueen - 19 days lucky you

mampam - about your walk, stairs are killing me now too, think a visit to the GP might be in order for some cocodamol for night times when it is really bad and something for the acid reflux

pureeandpearls · 09/01/2010 19:51

Oooooo 7DW... how exciting!

sweetkitty, mampam,fetaqueen and all- hello!

Just taken delivery of my walking frame. So much better than the zimmer I had last time and the seat doubles up as a seat to push my DD around on. Makes getting round so much easier so I'm very excited by it. Not at all worrying......but hey- just over two weeks until I can beg the consultant for an early delivery ;-)

sweetkitty · 10/01/2010 13:10

Was just checking up to see of 7DW had her little girl yet, bet she has and too busy to post.

rachpach · 10/01/2010 16:18

I have just posted a message about the 'holo - the lilo with a hole' and then read down and saw this thread.

Please take a look at www.holo-lilo.com

A friend of mine borrowed my holo and then bought one for herself after taking it to her osteopath to check it out and he totally approved of its use as it supports your pelvis and back, but allows you to lie on your front and removes all pressure. My friend says it was the only place she could lie to be pain free.

Obviously can't guarantee that it'll work for you, but at 30 quid, is maybe worth a try?

Anyway, good luck
Rach x

watercress · 11/01/2010 14:36

Hello and how is everyone doing?

I posted on here ages ago and have been reading but not posting as my SPD seems much less severe than many people on here and I feel a bit of a fraud.

Having said that, I'm rigid with pain by evening and have found that a Tens machine has really helped. I only use two of the four pads and stick them on the top of my leg where the muscle trigger points are (my adductors are severely affected on one side - the physio said she hadn't felt such tight muscles other than sportsmen). It helps at the time (I keep it on for a couple of hours each evening) and after I take it off I find I'm much more mobile and the pain is much less. And the effects seem to last into the next day.

Just thought I'd pass the tip on in case anyone wanted to give it a go.

pureeandpearls · 11/01/2010 15:25

watercress- any level of spd entitles you a seat on the sofa! Sadly beyond TENS, but I bet the info will help newbies!

Interesting about the lilo Rach- I saw it in a baby magazine the other day and wondered of it was worth a go.....

hello all

wonders how 7dw is doing......

fetaqueen · 11/01/2010 18:20

Hello All

Watercress .. welcome. The more the merrier. Its nice to share tips and hints.

P&P - hope you're still "enjoing" your walking frame....arent we all sad.. gettign excited by such things... anything that makes life a bit easier.

I too am sending 7DW lots of love and if anyone hears from her please let us all know.

Wonder too how CTOFN is getting on post c- section.

Im at he hospital again this week on Thursday having to monitor me as Im not carrying much water... midwife at the hospital told me to rest and not do anything to energetic... could have screamed.. I was sa in a wheelchair.. energetic for me is going for a wee!

7DW - was thinking of you congratulations on the birth of Emily, please don't fret too much about the sleeping on you thing, from her point of view she is used to being part of your body and that is where she feels safe close to you. Do whatever it takes to get the most sleep you can, these early days and weeks are not what it's like, you will not create bad habits or a rod for your own back, she will sleep by herself, may take a good few weeks but she will. Sorry you didn't get the birth you hope for but sometimes for whatever reason it just doesn't work out that way and well done on the walking!

So TENS machines, is it a normal pregnancy one or a back pain one and where do I get one from? I think I could benefit from one at night a bit even if it eased it a little.

fetaqueen - great thing to say to someone sat in a wheelchair, did she remove her foot from her mouth? 2 weeks isn't long hope it flies in for you

fetaqueen · 11/01/2010 23:00

EVENING

So pleased I just popped in before bed...

7DW - Congratulations...I'm glad you're doing ok. I remember being told when I had my DD that you can't spoil a baby that young.. forget that stupid saying " rod for your own back" and go with the flow...

Im looking forward to hearing the brth story.

Don't worry about not breast feeding. I didnt breast feed my DD due to depession and wont do it this time as I feel after such a shit pregnancy I dont want to put any more stress on myself.. and couldnt cope if it all went wrong.

Sweetkitty a friend of mine used a tenns macine when she had Spd illask her what brand it was incase 7DW isnt on again for a bit... you can only use it so many weeks gone though as it can bring on early labour.. or so my physio said.

Love again to all and Im so pleased 7DW is ok.

watercress · 12/01/2010 09:49

Congratulations 7DW and so positive to hear that you're up and about!

Re the Tens machine. Mine is a Tenscare Touch (less than £30) and I checked with my physio and midwife before getting it and they said it was fine as I wouldn't be using it on my abdomen or back. I am also planning to use it for labour (it doesn't have a specific labour setting but it is not difficult to work out which of the seven settings to use as the maternal Tens machines tend to be quite basic with only a couple of settings).

Between that and my Serola belt (courtesy of the NHS), I really feel that I have stopped the decline, which was rapid and distressing. So it may be worth a try.

Hope that helps.

underactivethyroidmum · 12/01/2010 10:45

Good morning all

I'm so glad to have found this thread - I've just been diagnosed with SPD at 32 weeks and I've spent the last two days feeling very weepy as I feel very much alone and unsure of what the next 8 weeks will bring

So far my GP has prescribed codeine and paracetamol and told me to rest as much as possible but I'm due to see the midwife on thursday and hopefully get some physio next week.

At the moment the pain is excruciating and I can't get comfortable anywhere please someone reassure me that with physio it will get a better and that I'm not consigned to 8 more weeks of being unable to walk any further than to the loo !

pureeandpearls · 12/01/2010 13:38

underactivethyroid- afraid to say that based on experiences here, the physio will do nothing other than slow the degeneration. I'd definitely try chiropractor/osteopath if you can. Also make sure you get support belts and take all their advice to heart. There are lots of tips on this thread that are helpful too.

On the plus side, you have only 8 weeks to go. You can campaign for an early delivery (see 7DW, CTOFN, Feta, basically everyone who has had a baby) and then it would be less time to suffer. My sympathies, support and a big hug to you xxx

7DW- yippee and congratulations. What a lovely name. So glad you found the experience positive, despite being so radically different to your planned birthj. DP sounds amazing. And double yippee for walking out of hospital. I am so thrilled for you.

Thanks 7DW will look that up.

Have appt with GP next week to stock up on the essential cocodamol, it's my last resort at night if things are really bad, cannot take them during the day as they make me all woozy and need my wits about me with having 3 other DC about, I used to take them once they were in bed at night.

Keep going with the BFing, I had an awful time with my first, she was too weak to latch at first so I was expressing and bottle feeding her, then I got sore nipples and all the rest. MN and a lovely woman from La Leche League sorted me out but I will never forget feeding and crying through the pain, then dreading every time she woke as it meant a feed. Take it feed at a time just now. How is your mobility is it improving daily?

underactivethyroidmum · 12/01/2010 18:15

Thanks for your replies 7DW and pureeandpearls - I've been reading this thread and feel much better now I have heard that others can and do cope

xx

Tantalooni · 13/01/2010 10:44

I've been sleeping with the window open - even in the snow!

I didn't struggle into work today because of the snow. It makes it difficult on the crutches and hobbling into work in this seems stupid, especially as they are not sympathetic - was told last week I was lucky to have a job in the current situation..... can't wait until I go on maternity, earlier the better with the SPD, etc....

underactivethyroidmum · 13/01/2010 11:27

Tantalooni - you're not alone in needing the window open we have over 10 inches of snow outside and I still need the window open !

Poor Hubby who sleeps nearest the window keeps moaning and has resorted to wrapping himself up in a blanket

As far as work - how awful

I've only just started with SPD and after reading some of the stories on here think I'm quite lucky as I can still shuffle/hobble around but even so I couldn't cope with going to work or uni this week. Will your doctor not give you a sick note ? You have legal rights so don't let 'em bully you into feeling guilty

fetaqueen · 14/01/2010 18:01

Hello All

Bit of an update for you on my pregnancy..

Have been a bit concerned a size of my bump so last week got sent for a sizing scan...and it seemed I wasnt carrying enough waters... so I went again this week and talk started of me having my c-section bought forward a bit...

So after some begging.. and agreeing to an uncomfortable internal I am now having my daughter next Thursday... original due date 31st Jan... so 10 days early...

I'd like to say this was because of the SPD.. but to be honest the health professionals still dont give a shit about me just the baby....

So c-section tips with SPD anyone? Please...

Hope everyone else is doing ok... and like yo all Im boiling hot... embrassing when people come over as my house is just so nice and cool... I was sweltering at the hospital today.. thought I might pass out... was all very dramatic.

pureeandpearls · 14/01/2010 20:15

You need CTOFN....track her down!! Great news about early baby, however it came about though> are you frantically packing hospital bags now?
