Our freezer bread is only for toast, as you rightly say Fettle, it is only any good for that after freezing. With regards to milk, I have never really noticed it not being the same taste afterwards, I am sure you are right - probably nicer tasting that water in porridge though .
Not sure what I would do about the warts - perhaps just wait and see what happens as he grows, and like you say, only you really notice them because you are his mother.

I am not ready to wean H yet to be honest, but part of me feels like I might be denying her because I was adamant I would wait. That's pretty much why I asked about others experience. She sits up really well, she will be 5 months on xmas eve. We have upped her from 7oz to 8oz, and she drains that too - can I really offer her 9oz? I think it could just be a growth spurt, and she will be fine. Rainbow you could well be right about just wanting the suck for longer.

I have asked for a book on baby led weaning for christmas, so hopefully I will get that. But then I think I would like to do a mixture of baby led weaning and mush - I realise that means it is not baby led weaning, but you know what I mean - some mush and also some big lumps of veg.

What is molluscum?

honeyapple · 15/12/2009 09:44

hello- well fettle, ideally I do think waiting till 6mths is best and doing a lot of baby led weaning is great- however in practice- I started weaning all mine from between 4-5 mths. When DS1 was a baby it was standard to wean at 4mths- it has only fairly recently changed to 6mths- although I am sure this is sensible. I found that my children were sitting up and very eager to eat earlier though. I started with mush- but not that revolting babyrice stuff- yuk- seriously would put off anyone from eating- it is surely more useful for hanging wallpaper! I did apple/pear puree to start i think. Dex was given a lot more stuff to eat himself- like banana, broccoli, soft carrot... and he is a really great eater now. Gets very messy though!

right got to go- dex has playschool xmas party today- got to make cheese sandwiches...

greedygreedyguzzler · 15/12/2009 12:49

ellis has warts too....well, a wart on his knee, so i am off to google duct tape in a minute!

I weaned all of mine before 6 months. like honey said when ellis was ickle everyone weaned at 4 months, but by the time i had kiki it was advised to wait till 6 months, but there was NO WAY she was going to wait till 6 months cos she was HUGE!!! I just tried to only give them fruit, veg and baby rice until 6 months, so i avoided anything with gluten or wheat or any potential allergens in.

just been to see my final nativity of the year!! very sweet and definately the best of the three ( but dont tell kiki or marcy i said so!!)

5 balaclavas arrived this morning for our lapland trip!....almost ready to go!!

seaside and rainbow - i REALLY REALLY hope this month is the one for you both!!

greedygreedyguzzler · 15/12/2009 12:51

ready - i put a sheet or light blanket over marcy and she is still in a sleeping bag

Chooster · 15/12/2009 12:51

Afternoon! How are the poorly people - any better ready?

Not sure about the warts fettle.. I had one on my hand a few years ago and it did hurt once I started fiddling with it and I dont know if it made it disappear any faster? It lasted for about a year I think (although I have very little concept of time when I look back these days! ). Like you say maybe leave it until he starts school and see what the situation is then. Molluscum sounds nasty! We've never had that one yet....

Hi ready - my boys loved their growbags but I know some babies just dont like them. Maybe keep trying it and see if she gets used to it. Like you say they dont advise that anything goes on top of them, more that you put more clothes on them underneath if you think they are cold. However,I know you are doing it for the 'tuck-in' factor.... A sheet probably wont be an issue and I doubt it will make her over-heat as long as her room is not too warm.

Baby-led weaning always sounded good to me, but I had choking worries as DS1 had a choking incident when he was baby and that (stupidly!) put me off.. I did try it sometimes, but I would hover over anxiously so it wasn't helping to make it a relaxing experience! .

Thanks for asking about my school mums night out! It went well and there were about 14 mums in the end! PHEW! {smile]. It was a good night...

Right need to go get DS2's prescription for an infected finger...

greedygreedyguzzler · 15/12/2009 12:52

and something else - i used to give ellis 9 oz bottles - they were completely filled to the brim by the time the powder went in!

greedygreedyguzzler · 15/12/2009 12:54

hi choosterchops!!

greedygreedyguzzler · 15/12/2009 14:30

guess what guess what!!!!!????? can't believe I found this first!!!..............news from lottie.......

Sooooooooooo - news from me is that I had my c-section yesterday and we welcomed our little girls, Juliet and Eve, to the world. They were born at 15.29 and 15.30 weighing 6lb 1 and 5lb 6 respectively... grin

Both feeding from the breast already but they're VERY sleepy. Eve, the smaller one, needed a feeding tube for the first few hours yesterday so that feeding her didn't compete with her attempts to breathe regularly; she was obviously struggling a little bit.

Will write more in a while, am absolutely shattered and must try to get some sleep.

Best of luck to anyone on the brink (CTOFN???) and will no doubt find a bit more time to write/contribute over the next few days. Now it's time for a micro-Zzzzzzzzz....

honeyapple · 15/12/2009 17:28

thanks greedy .

Fettle · 15/12/2009 18:22

Fab news about Lottie!!! What's that? almost 3 weeks earlier than her planned C-section isn't it? New Years Eve? So a few weeks premature then - sound like she's doing well!! Congratulations Lottie if you read this!

Right - best go bath children!

Greedy - hope you're not flying BA to lapland!!

Honey - you did see my s didn't you? Just worried I've offended you now and I was only teasing you! Sorry!

Ready - we've got a heater on low thermostat in Toby's room as he was agetting a little chilly in his sleeping bag and didn't like moving to a duvet - so we're having problems at the other end!! Anyway, he's sleeping much better now his room doesn't get too cold at night, when the central heating is off.

Molluscum is a very very common viral infection (something like 80% of the population has had it - most without realising it I think), but it gives you blister like spots which burst and the contents are very contagious and so spread around the skin where it touches, for example while drying after a bath - so it's caught by sharing towels mainly!

Right - must bath.....

Congratulations Lottie, what fabulous news. C-sections are not pleasant, but you are right, the end product is all that really matters. And Juliet and Eve are gorgeous. So sweet that they spooned each other ? twins are incredible.
I think you are awesome for breastfeeding, I cannot imagine feeding twins!! I struggled enough with just the one. Well done you!
That?s so amazing that the 4 of you can spend all the time in hospital together, I found the stay in hospital without dh the worst experience. It?s awful, you have this new baby, and it should be a magical time, but you are left to get on with it, all on your own, it is such a lonely time ? and after a c-s it is even worse as you are in so much pain and can barely move. I would have loved to have dh stay, I might not have been quite so eager to get home

Fettle, have you seen these gro-duvets? They look really cool, basically duvets with zips so that you can?t kick them off in the night. Pricey, but I reckon they might be worth their weight in gold.
Molluscum sounds unpleasant, but clearly loads of people have it, so nothing to worry about?

Greedy, 9oz may be the way forward for H, she is draining every 8oz bottle. Only 5 weeks til we can wean her, then perhaps we won?t need to stuff the bottle to the brim/
I am glad I am not the only one to add a layer on a bag.
Finished your website yet?
Not long til Lapland ? looking forward to seeing your photos when you get back! (Is that a bit stalker-y? )

Chooster, thanks I am feeling better, still sniffly, but out of the way in time for Christmas. H is happy in her grobag now, it just took a couple of days. It really just was the tucked in factor, and so with a sheet on top, she is happy as larry. Our room is not overly warm, she?s still in with us, not sure if I said, when she got too big for her crib, I got dh to bring the cot into our bedroom ? couldn?t let her go in her nursery before 6 months. I thought I would be able to, and I know I will sleep better when she is not at the foot of the bed, but I just kept thinking that if something happened, it would have been because I didn?t follow the guidelines.
Glad your mum?s night out went well 14 is a great turn out!
I am terrified of choking incidents, but from what I have read, BLW reduces the risk of choking ? but apparently there is more gagging, which puts people off.

Honey I had to laugh at the babyrice/wallpaper paste comment, it does look a bit pastey, it is supposed to be bland enough on the tummy though, so I reckon I will start out with it. I am looking forward to the mess .
How was the playschool party?

Seaside and Rainbowdays I second what Greedy says, hope it is your month! xx

Fettle · 16/12/2009 20:52

Hi All

Just quickly as I'm shattered after my course today - house is a tip, but I'm going to ignore it and tackle it tomorrow in the cold light of day!!

Anyway, just wanted to say to Lottie - congratulations and well done on the feeding. I found with DD, I was induced at 36 weeks and I'm convinced that my body just wasn't ready for a baby to be born and consequently my milk took a good few days to really come in properly and also because she was a bit early, she was very sleepy too and it was a real nightmare getting her to latch on and stay on, without dropping off again. I fought the hospital MWs for giving her formula during the time and they panicked me about her blood glucose levels dropping and took heel prick blood every 4 hours to check her blood glucose levels - which were always fine so she must have been getting something! Anyway, I think on Day 3 I woke up looking and feeling like Dolly Parton and finally she got something when she did suckle for a tiny amount and she then didn't stop until she was 9 months old and I went back to work. Suppose what I'm trying to say is that it will happen, but I personally think that because I was induced early it did affect both DD and my initial milk supply, so it may be the same with you? and so by tomorrow afternoon you should look and feel like Dolly (hopefully))!

Ready - hadn't seen those, will have a good look tomorrow!

Arghh - no time to post properly but wanted to say massive congrats to you lottie (and Mr londonlottie)

LOVE the pics - they are making me ultra broody and the names are gorgeous - well done xxxxxxxx

Like you say the end result is all that matters and if it is any consolation after my relatively easy birth I felt (and looked according to the mw's ) like I had been kicked by an elephant could not walk upright for at least three days and have to say it was pretty much six weeks till I felt "normal" again

Good luck with the BFing - sounds like you are doing a marvellous job.

so much more to say but have to go as off on our xmas tour of friends and rellies tomorrow so mad tidying and packing.

back soon

OH MY GOD lottie!! your pics are amazing!!! i am so so jealous of you having twins, it must be so amazing. TWO little bundles, with such a strong bond........ah!!! they look really big in the pics too!!! obviously i know they're not, but they dont look tiny and frail like you might expect, they just look gorgeous!!

greedygreedyguzzler · 17/12/2009 15:12

i just have to keep looking at your pics lottie! they are so adorable!! and sorry for spilling your news by the way, not sure what even made me search for news from you on Tuesday..........maybe i had a sixth sense that something had happened........

Fettle · 17/12/2009 21:17

OOOHHHHHHHHHHHHH Lottie - just looked at your photos and I'm so emotional - they look so adorable and beautiful!!! You lucky lucky girl!!!

I hope you are recovering well and the girls are thriving.

So happy for you.....

(can you tell I'm a bit hormonally emotional this evening?!).

Hello everyone else.

Chooster · 17/12/2009 21:39

FAB FAB FAB FAB news LOTTIE!!!!! And lovely names for 2 lovely little girls - the pictures are gorgeous! . Looking forward to hearing more from you, hope the stay in hosptial is going to be Ok. .

Glad your feeling better ready - its my turn to be all sniffing and snuffling now! Rotten cold, the lasy who sits next to me at work is now off with swine flu but not before she coughed all over me! Still I dont think its that - just a bad cold. But my worse news is that DH has lost his job . The airline he works for went bust yesterday - really crap, especially the week before xmas... At least I kept my job otherwise we'd be really knackered...

Hope everyone is OK... Off to bed now

honeyapple · 18/12/2009 11:38

SNOW!!!!! We have masses here- been out for a lovely walk this morning.

lottie- just going to look at your pics...

rainbow- so sorry to hear about your DH and his job- was it that scottish airline?

honeyapple · 18/12/2009 11:40

lottie- ahhhhhhh- loving the cuddling together pic- well done you!

Ready · 18/12/2009 17:31

I would totally agree with that, I felt like I had been kicked by an elephant, and looking back at the photos it looks like it too!! But you do start to feel better. Lottie, one thing I would say is to get up and about as soon as possible after the c-section, I looked like an old lady of 90 as I staggered to the toilet the first day, but I was not going to lay there all day with a sodding catheter. Eurgh. I felt like bambi on ice walking for about a day, but the more you work at it the better it is, so my advice, keep moving and you will feel better for it. How is your scar doing?

Fettle big hugs, hope you are not as emotional tonight. Had to laugh at the Dolly Parton comment, rings true here! It took me a day or two to get the breastfeeding going, but like you say, once the milk comes in!!

Seaside, have a lovely festive tour. Look forward to hearing all about your journey in this snow when you return!

Chooster, really sorry to hear about dh, I was reading about the problems with that airline, apparently some credit card companies had heard whispers of it not being solid, so started to withhold payments ? which gave the company a cashflow problem I believe. Sounds particularly shitty way of the credit card companies to behave, but it seems common practice. Not good timing for you, hope that you will still be able to enjoy the festive period. Big hugs.
Sorry to hear you are under the weather too, just what you need right now.

My little cherub has the cold in full swing, sounds like a little piglet hunting truffles, eyes are weepy and she keeps coughing and sneezing. Bless her, good news is she still chatters away and laughs plenty

Right, must go see if dh needs a hand with the noisemaker

honeyapple · 18/12/2009 18:11

whoops- sorry chooster about your hubbie- the snow has frozen my brain

greedygreedyguzzler · 18/12/2009 18:36

oh chooster - what crappy news about dh and what crappy timing too. did he know it might be coming or was it totally unexpected?

Hi Lottie what wonderful wonderful news!!! Just amazing and I can't get over how adorable Juliet and Eve look spooned together - just adorable!!
I too had a horrid aneasthatist with my third who was shouting at me to pull myself together - I thought it was a bit surreal really, I just couldn't get into the right position and I was terrified as DS1 was a horrific birth ending in c-sec under general, DS2 wasn't too bad but Dh had to hold me in a headlock to keep me still. But DS3 I was in tears and she was shouting that I would have to have a general if I didn't keep still. The midwife was lovely and then my DH very firmly and clearly said about my DS1 birth and she backed down and said well why didn't you say - er you didn't give me chance!! Anyway all I could think of was they have to get it right so managed it in the end but yes like you felt very upset but felt silly and terrified to keep crying!
Anyway keep going and it will all be fine, you will be a fantastic mummy and don't worry too much, just relax and enjoy the girls the next few weeks and go with the flow...
Hello to all of you - have been following but have had poorly DS and DS2 last 5 weeks one of them has been off with headaches virus all sorts so although have everything for Christmas nothing is wrapped!!! Totally disorganised - but DS3 is a joy 9.5 months now and I can't belive how the time has flown!!

Hope you all okay - will catch up in the New Year..
Have a truly lovely Christmas to all!! xxx
