Good to get lots of updates from you all, but sorry to hear your sad news Iamamummy . Like the others have said though, great that your last memory is of the family all together and she was happy.

Sorry as well to hear about DS1 Rainbow - thats a nasty bug! What are your current thoughts about trying again for another baby? Sorry if that question is insentive, just hope you are OK.

Ready - It sounds like DD is doing really really well!!! I remember those days when you were desperate for them to sleep through but then you were terrified there was something wrong when they did . The logical of mothers eh.... .

Fettle - Poor little ones getting upset, it must be really hard on DD now she is getting older. Although it must be nice to get these things from DH its a bit of a double edged sword isn't it, because it can be upsetting. Hope the rain stops down your neck of the woods soon . What are you xmas plans? I'm so pleased to hear about your friend with her 2 month old baby after her previous stillbirth sadness. She must just be thinking that she doesn't want to chance it again.

Seaside, Really sorry to hear about the limbo state, it can get to a point when it has a bearing on everything you do and think about doesn't it, from holidays to jobs etc... As Fettle says, really try to enjoy whats with you now (I'm sure you are anyway!) and just let fate handle the rest . Easier said than done mind you!! Sorry about your friend .

Honey - Mmm, white jeans - none on ebay??? Shame about your friends induction and like you say fingers crossed all has gone well.

Hi Greedy - hows things? Business going well?

I've made DS's shepherds costume last night (well I attempted it and DH completed it really well!) and it looks good. I was kind of up for buying one but DH thinks that goes against the tradition of making your child wear embarassing home made outfits at nativity . He's looking forward to it I think, but I still dont know what he's doing... Its on monday anyway so I guess I'll soon find out! DS2 is back at nursery as well today for the first time in 3 weeks!!! And no tears!!!! Hoooorrrraaayyyy!!!! He's had a diarohhea type bug for ages so he's been looked after at home by either me, DH or MIL and each morning he's been saying 'no nursery' so I was expecting a full on paddy today when I dropped him, but all he said was "bye mummy" . Anyway, it looks like he got the bug at nursery anyway because we were notified last week that another kid was of with something called cryptosporadium... basically prolongd poo-y bottoms!

So we are all well in our house again!!! Christmas tree this weekend

rainbowdays · 08/12/2009 16:32

iam - sorry to hear about your grandma.

seaside - sorry to hear you are back at cd1 again, I have been to a fertility clinic, and found that they gave me no information that I did not already know, and the only thing I got was a prescription for progesterone for next time I get pregnant, and another unlicenced drug LDN to help not miscarry. But I am feelling less hopeful by the moment.

Chooster - weird you having cryptosporidium at your nursary, it is got from drinking water normally. And it is just what my ds had last week!!!!! We got the official notification of it yesterday, but already the water company here are denying it is from our taps at home, despite it affecting ds 1 and 2 and myself! Still, I think we are finally passed the poo-ey stage now. On a change of topic, have fun putting up your christmas tree at the weeked.

Ready - good to hear that you are getting some sleep!

fettle - has it stopped raining yet?!

Chooster · 08/12/2009 21:11

Wierd you've had the same thing rainbow!!!! This is what Ds1 had as well and what caused him to be off school. The sample results are not back yet but I'm sure thats what it is, especially as they've been in contact. Glad Ds1 is better now! Sorry you're not feeling too hopeful, but at least you have some medication to help if you are going to try again?

Fettle · 08/12/2009 22:12

Oooh - that c-word poey bottom thing doesn't sound very nice. Poor you all! Not liking the sound of that at all. Good you sound as if you are all on the mend. Is it contagious then, or only caught from drinking contaminated water?

Rainbow - sorry you didn't get any easy solutions from the clinic. Try and keep as positive as you can.

Must go sleeping - night all!

Fettle · 08/12/2009 22:13

Wow - how many sounds?! Must be exhausted!!

honeyapple · 09/12/2009 09:26

ready- I wouldnt recommend you read the politics of BF- it is not an easy read and definitely does not support formula- or 'artificial milk' as the author refers. I would recommend you read 'what mother's do... especially when it looks like nothing'. Really fantastic parenting book- basically- ignore all 'experts' and listen to your own mothering abilities. And also- stop comparing your child with others and enjoy them for the way they are . Even after 3 kids it still helps me to remember this.

sorry to hear about all the poo going about. Dex has been quite ill too- high temp/snotty/bad cough- hang on a minute- isnt that swine flu??? Ho hum. Think he is a bit chirpier today- just got the snot and cough at the moment. Nice.

SEaside- . TTC never gets easier. I won't tell you to relax or try not to think about it cos I know that is impossible. However I really would say don't worry about when- it will happen- might be next year, might not be. Age gaps between children aren't that important/ time of year to be born doesnt matter either. Book a holiday. Make plans- plans can be changed .

right got to go

Hope everyone is better for Christmas - only 2 weeks to go!

When you off on your little trip with a brightly coloured DH, Greedy?!

Your friend does sound a bit bizarre by the way - not sure how I would have taken that! I can't abide competitiveness seriously though how on earth can you compare children - that's like a giant saying to a dwarf my child's taller than yours, they all develop differently and a lot depends on genes. Pah to her, I'd say!!

HAve to say I have a few friends who I jokingly think of teaching their children Mandarin Chinese as at the age of 2 they've already mastered English, French and Spanish!!! Personally me I want my children to stay children for as long as possible - they grow up too quickly anyway.

Honey - Politics of BF sounds very bizarre too! That other book sounds great and advocates what I've always thought - avoid advice and trust yourself! By the way, you always know how to say things the right way! Very jealous of that!

Right - need to go brush my hair and make an effort - off to school for the nativity!

bye-bye!

seaside72 · 09/12/2009 21:09

Another post from the sick bay here too! Cassius is poorly AGAIN grrrrr. Feel bad being grrrr about but it is such a PITA. No good sleep since saturday night (that's enough to make me lose my sense of humour!) and he is such a clingon when he is poorly so I have spent the last 3 days with him lying on me coughing unable to do anything. I have put him down in his own bed tonight but have already had to go up once so not hopeful

Like Marcy he is snotty, coughing like a smoker and very feverish. I used to get freaked out by the high temps but I read a really good article (cant remember where now) about how a fever/high temp is the way a baby/toddler deals with infection and viruses and they are not always to be feared as they are a natural immune response. C always gets the fever in waves anyway - heats up to boiling for about an hour then gradually cools down then about an hour or two later starts heating up again, my own little kettle so on the plus side I have not needed a hot water bottle since Sunday

Thanks for all the sympathy about CD1 - I know all the sensible stuff - I am just being whiney and so wanted it to happen quickly/easily.
honey - you are very right and I mostly more relaxed about it just whenever CD1 hits I think why didn't we do more/BD more etc. However you will pleased to know already have 2 holidays booked (still cant help myself day dreaming about being pg on them though!

Put up our Xmas tree today so feeling a bit more festive though still in denial that it happening in 2 weeks Hope the nativity play was good fettle

What a weird friend greedy - obviously highly insecure with low self esteem?! I think I would have been inclined to take the p at her expense and sarcastically agree with everything she was saying, she has obviously spawned the next Christ/Mohammed/Buddha/Steven Hawking etc!!

Ready - whoohoo H on sleeping I was the same with C - the first few nights he slept through I was awake checking on him!

Well done on the shepherd costume Chooster but poor DS2 with a nasty bug

rainbowdays - poor your DS1 with the same nasty crypto bug?? Having a child gives you a whole new medical vocabulary!
Is your prog prescription a cream or a pessary? I will be holding out lots of hope for you

Better go - this has been the longest I have sat with no toddler on me in 3 days!

honeyapple · 09/12/2009 21:12

thanks fettle . Forgot to say i had a tear in my eye when reading about the CD- won't be too long now till he is home.

greedy- that friend of yours sounds really stupid! (Alcohol cannot be totally to blame for daftness). Teeth falling out is totally genetic (or accidental- ie football in the moosh)... children who never brush their teeth and eat lots of sweets might end up with the dentist pulling them out (as is case with boy in DD's class ). DD has only lost 2 teeth (she was 7 on monday) although has a stupidly wobbly front tooth- so wobbly I don't know how it is staying in- she is really enjoying it. BTW does she not read her child any fiction?

honeyapple · 09/12/2009 21:16

hi seaside- crossed with you. Hope C sleeps better tonight. Dex is in his own bed too- for first time in 3 nights... not expecting it to last!

Fettle · 09/12/2009 23:51

Ah poor Cassius. He's been poorly on and off for ages. No wonder you feel ttc is taking a back seat - toddler in your bed can't be helping. Hope you get some good sleep tonight. My GP is convinced all these little snotty temp coughing bugs are mild swine flu - so I'm hoping so as then it's not as bad as first feared. I've never worried about fevers which is strange considering I had a febrile fit at 20 months and was very poorly in hospital for while afterwards. Forgot how to walk and didn't again until 23 months. Was told there is a higher chance of my dc having one as I'd had one but still I'd rather deal with temperatures than diarrhoea and vomit!

Good on you booking holidays seasideA good alcoholic holiday and a new job was what got me pg with dd after 2 years of no joy!!

Nativity was lovely. But glad I didn't bring my crystal glasses as the singing was shocking!! . Dd was very clear so I was v proud!

Sleep well all

xxx

Fettle · 09/12/2009 23:55

Meant to say that hope dex sleeps well too in his own bed honey. Seeing dh in 6 weeks!!!! Lost count how many weeks it has been but over 3 calander months so must be about 14weeks? Still not half way overall but getting there!!!

Chooster · 10/12/2009 14:06

Fettle - Good to hear that its only 6 weeks til you see DH - how long is he home for?

Wow, Is your DD 7 now Honey!? For some reason I think of her as being 5, maybe 6 at a push... Not that you describe her as young, just I thought she was roughly the same as Fettle's DD. I think Max will be the same wiht teeth - at 5 and a half, he has no signs of any falling out - must be all that good parenting -

That is wierd stuff to say Greedy - her poor son is not going to be able to explore his imaginative side - surely thats what is so lovely about kids .

Great that the holidays are booked Seaside!!! Anywhere nice? But not so good about Cassius, hopefully this is just a bad spell and he'll be clear of all nasties by xmas.

How were the sleeping babies last night? DS2 (he keeps telling me he's a big boy when I call him baby )is a pain in the neck still... Well, its kind of a pain and kind of nice. he last few nigts he's come through to my room at around 11pm and just got into bed. It is nice because he's all warm and snuggly but its got to stop as I've been letting him stay.

Anyway, best crack on with work... I've arranged a night out at the local pub for the other primary 1 mums tonight and I'm worried in case no-one turns up and I'm a billy-no-mates .

Fettle · 10/12/2009 14:49

I'd come tonight chooster but it's a bit far!! I toonlove snuggly children. But I knownit is bad! Promised dd she can fall asleep in my bed tonight as a treat as she is being so good putting herself in bed and reading to herself I put toby to sleep. She has developed a fascination for snooker ! so said she could watch that tonight! I'll put her back in her bed when I go to be though!

Just back from toby eye check. He has a slight tendency to turn his left eye outward but his vision is good apparently. He got the 3d shape with a bit of encouragement and named everything he could see on the special grey boards. Proud mum emoticon for my late speaking boy!!. But not so good bout eyes. We waiting and seeing for 6 months but she going to see us in 3 as in 6 months we won't be living here. Such a pain moving!! Arghhhh! Anyway she says in 3 months she can say whether we should prioritise it once we move or whether it can wait a bit. So she was v helpful and understanding! Sorry bit me me me. But can't phone dh to speak to him.

Right time for a bit of train time.....

greedygreedyguzzler · 10/12/2009 14:50

glad you all agree my friend is a bit nuts!!! she is very funny and really nice too though! i am feeling bad now for slagging her off!!

marcy seems to have recovered really quickly from this episode of illness so i hope all of yours do too. not sure why i worry about temperatures really, cos i know all the physiological stuff about the body creating the temperature to kill off the bugs, but they just worry me. kiki had a really high temp once and was all floppy and just kept falling asleep and that terrified me!!

glad the nativity was good fettle. i have just been to see kiki's this morning too. she was a great angel with lots of fab arm flapping! (no words, just flapping and singing!!) marcy has got hers tomorrow!! should be interesting, and then ellis on monday!

we are off to lapland in 11 days time!!!! yippee....i think!!

better go, i am meant to be designing my website, not hanging around on here!

iamamummy · 10/12/2009 15:39

hi ladies!

seaside - VERY of your 2 holidays booked! dont think we will even be able to afford a weekend away at this rate yet another tenant of ours has decided not to pay and its one of our biggest incomes so going to be a struggle without that and the long court battle ahead is not appealing . so sorry to hear you are feeling glum about cd1. it will happen for you, this time of year is great (its when ds2 was conceived also) a few drinking sessions over the festive period and some non pressured bd'ng and u will be well away!!

fettle - wow 6 weeks!!! how exciting for you and the children.

greedy - your friend sounds like dp sister she is so competitive over EVERYTHING and it drives me nuts worst thing is she doesnt even need to have alcohol in her blood stream to start but once she has she is just stupid with a capital S! wow how exciting going to lapland your children will love it!!!

chooster - i second fettle, i would so love to come to your pub meet up but tad difficult as you are the other end of the uk! i feel like i really need a night out now to let my hair down and i think so does dp!

honey - sorry to hear about dex being poorly hope its not swine flu though! the last bout of illness we all had was a real nasty cold and lingered for over 2 weeks..was beginning to think that could have been the dreaded swine flu.

thankyou for all of the sympathys about my grandma, i know you shouldnt live in what ifs but just couldnt help thinking and feeling bad at the time. we have the funeral tomorrow and i really feel i am coping well until i think of that. I am such a cryer at the best of times and i just know tomorrow il be a huge blubbering mess. I feel embarrassed about it though as i know there will be some family there who were very close to her but wont show any emotion at all, i just dont know how people manage to hold it in?

Ready · 12/12/2009 12:59

Ill, ill, ill. Cough, splutter, DH has man-flu. Actually, he is really ill, and can hardly move, I hope I don?t get what he has, I?m content with the cough and feeling like crap thanks, I?d still like to be able to eat and move.

Christmas tree is up (although keep forgetting to water it, so it will probably have lost all its needles by the big day!), and feeling like we are almost ready for Christmas, we are hosting ? argh, not looking forward to that, but am looking forward to taking lots of photos of H

H has rolled over!! I have not been giving her much time on her tummy cos she doesn?t like it, but I read that she really ought to be able to lift her head up by now ? so yesterday I thought I should give her some tummy time and she was fine, lifted herself clear off the ground, and then proceeded to roll over onto her back. Of course, I wanted to see if she could do it again, and again ? I was super impressed considering I thought I was going to have her face down and groaning at me for forcing her into tummy time

Chooster, glad ds went to nursery without a fight, hope all is well, and all illnesses have stayed at bay. I love the thought of homemade costumes for nativity, it will be fabulous to look at in years to come.
Has your tree gone up? Did anyone turn up to your night out

Rainbowdays, sorry to hear things have not been great. Hope things sort themselves out really soon. Thinking of you.

Greedy, your friend sounds like a bit of a plum, even if she had had lots to drink. I don?t know anything about teeth, but I do know that you keep your thoughts about other people?s parenting to yourself. Didn?t think you were slagging her off though, so don?t feel bad.
Glad Marcy is feeling better.
How is the website?

Seaside Hope C is better, and you?ve have to get your own hot water bottle out Loving the sound of 2 holidays ? and you know, if you manage to relax, you could come home from one with a little hitchhiker

Fettle, had to laugh at the bad singing at the nativity, lovely stuff!
Sorry to hear about Toby?s eyes, good that you will have some idea before you leave of the next step. Fingers crossed that it is something he will grow out of.
Haha, love that DD is enjoying snooker ? very educational
6 weeks will fly by!!

Iam, sorry to hear about the tenants, that?s just what you need right now huh! Enjoy yourself on your night out.

Right, I really need to go and do some laundry. Bleurgh.

rainbowdays · 12/12/2009 19:36

Seaside - I am in empathy with you about cd1.... although cd3 for me today and still feeling peeved. Why not me questions and all that. But I am determined to give the best shot at it I can this month, on monday I am starting on a drug LDN for repeated miscarriage, I will stay on the asprin, and give it our best shot over christmas! But Once my next birthday comes around, I think I will be giving up.

Ready - hope you got your laundry done and not like me keep surfing the net! And hope you are feeling better too.

iam - hope the funeral went ok, and that you are not feeling so low.

Greedy - are you packed for lapland yet, such fun, wish I could go too.

fettle - my dd has turning eye problem too, but as her eyesight is fine they are leaving it. It became very obvious over the last year, when every photo we took of her, we could not work out where she wsa looking as her eyes were looking in different directions!!! It is not easy to see normally, but it was weird when we got her school photo as it was the first one in a long time where her eyes were actually looking the same way!!!! The opthalmologists are waiting with her to see if it self corrects, but have eye checks every six months. Also that competitive friend of yours sounds weird!

OK I just wanted to post as I feel I am lurking and not posting all the time.

OP posts:
Fettle · 14/12/2009 10:03

Thanks Rainbow for info about DD's eyes - trying to worry about it, but my beautiful little boy not only has warts, molluscum contagisium (very mildy thankfully so far, not like poor beautiful DD who is covered!), but now this! But at least he's still happy and my little baby and beautiful to me!!
Keeping everything crossed that a bit of festive cheer is what you and your ovaries need this month!

HAving said Toby was cheerful, he wasn't happy this morning when bad mother than I am realised that I had nothing for breakfast - no milk (used last for his drink at bedtime) and no bread as we'd been away for weekend. Had htought about bedtime milk, but not today's breakfast and obviously couldn't go out once we were home last night as alone! So they had porridge made with water with fruit through it! DD was honest and said that she didn't like it much but still waded through it but Toby just got hysterical cos he wanted toast!!! He did sit down and eat his porridge later quietly when he thought I wasn't looking, so he must have been hungry poor boy. (I'd made it a bit more palatable by sprinkling coco-pops, rice cripies and shreddies on the top, but it would have been cold by the time he ate it[blurgh!])

Anyway, I'm supposed to be working, so better get on with!!

Hope everyone is doing ok?

xxx

Fettle · 14/12/2009 10:09

obviously meant I'm trying not to worry about Toby's eyes!

Ready · 14/12/2009 10:45

Morning. Cough. Sniff.

Rainbow, sorry you are contemplating giving up ttc, hope it doesn't come to that, and you have some success with the LDN. Hope your little ones are all ok?

Fettle, sorry to hear about the warts
I am sure this is going to sound patronising, but I always keep a bottle of milk in the freezer, and bread too - so that we are always able to have toast and tea. Obviously I have never done it for the purposes of children's breakfast...

We have had a few covers being kicked off situations of late, so we have dusted off the gro bag - tried it a few times before but H was not too sure about it... and she is still not too sure, any ideas on how to get her used to it? Or will it just take a few days? She has been soooo good at sleeping lately, but last night she needed settling - I tucked her in a sheet as well as the gro bag because she seems to really like the tucked in feeling... bit worried about overheating, but 1 sheet can't be that bad. Can it? Anyone else use more than a gro bag? The guide says no extra bedding.

Oh... and talk to me about weaning ladies... please. I was adamant that I was going to wait til H was 6 months old - but she is draining her bottles again and looking for more. Dh thinks it is a sign that she needs more than milk. Tell me what you did girls and why!!

Fettle · 14/12/2009 11:16

I know I should keep milk and bread in the freezer, but I find the milk never tastes as good and the bread is only really good for toasting after - but I'm planning on doing that for when we go away over Christmas as back late - it just didn't cross my mind as we were only away for a night this time and I thought I had more milk that we did!

How old is H now? I weaned both mine around 5 months - I wouldn't do it earlier personally - how much milk is she having? Could you up that? I started weaning mine as they were feeding constantly and started waking for more during the night when they'd previously stopped that. Is she sitting up well by herself? She must be doing that in order to start weaning I seem to remember.

However, I'd wait for Honey or Rainbow as they seem the most knowledgeable [although Honey will probably tell you to wait til 6 months and do baby-led weaning as that is all the rage now!!!] HAve to say though my friend has just baby-led weaned her 7 month old and he is thriving on it and eating everything, so I Think it probably is a good idea - I'd just worry too much about choking I think! Mush is the way forward, but I'm so glad I'm through that phase! (sorry Ready!! I'm sure you'll love it though!!!)

Must must must must work - stop distracting me!!!!

xxx

Fettle · 14/12/2009 11:24

BTW - have I not told you about poor Toby's warts? He's had one on his thumb for as long as I can remember, but now has a few more developing on his hands and has one just under his lip - GP says I can try and remove the hand ones if I can bothered, but it will hurt him - they should go of their own accord over the next 4 years. But the one on his face is a different type of wart that is very unlikely to go on its own accord, but because of where it is, I can't touch it and they won't surgically remove it while he so little as he'd need a GA and they wouldn't risk it - maybe when he is older they'll be able to use a local.

What would you lot do? Leave them to run their course, or fiddle? They don't look too bad - I just notice them because I'm his mother - I just worry about when he starts school, especially as he keeps getting more on his hands.

As for molluscum - what do I do about that?! Poor DD is covered on the backs of her knees, some of which are starting to scar and I noticed some on her forehead over the weekend and she has a few more scattered around. I've not bothered taking her to doctor as know that it is so common and I don't think there is any standard treatment, just let it run its 18mth to 2 year course!

rainbowdays · 14/12/2009 12:08

Fettle - now I am going to make you think I am really really weird, but have you considered duct tape for the warts, and yes there are loads of goggle pages on it!!!! But I have tried it on varruca and it seems to work..... now I feel really weird !!!! However I know nothing about molluscum, so can't help you there.

Ready - it is hard waiting til 6 months, I only managed it this last time, first two I started weaning at 5 months. Just a couple of questions to help you decide if you think it is time to wean: is H really hungry after the bottles? Or could it be something else like, sucking on the bottle giving relief to achey gums? Have you got her on the hungrier baby milk or the regular? Have you offered her extra milk after a feed and how much of that does she drink?

sorry got to run, ds2 woken from his nap
