Anyone had a negative pregnancy test but were actually pregnant?

My period was due last Friday and have always been on the dot since I was 11! The only one I have ever missed resulted in dd born last October.

I have done two clearblue digital tests and they say 'not pregnant' - on Saturday and Monday. I do feel a bit sicky (but this could be fear) but I don't have any breast tenderness like I did last time. My periods returned in January and have been regular and I'm not breastfeeding.

I just don't understand where my period is!

It wouldn't be the end of the world if I was pregnant, but I intended to wait until next year.

Any advice or views? TIA

yes you can have false negatives - you are supposed to wait 3 days then test again

you can't have false positives though

good luck (whatever the outcome, hope its what you want)

If you have such stable periods, perhaps you are.

You can get false negatives, just not false positives I think.

Perhaps you are just not registering enough hormone at the moment...

Wait a few days. If you still don't have your period, then if you are PG, then you are likely to get a + result by then.

Hotmama - I'm with you here. Have had 28 days cycles - last month was 31 days though. I'm now on day 33 and still no AF but have done a test this morning and it's still negative! Was talking to a friend of mine last week - and this had happened to her too. She waited another couple of days and then got a positive test - so there may be hope for us yet!!

Have had a few symptons - although nothing like last time...but since I'm TTC, I'm sure I'm imagining half of these!!

stress, worry, exercise can all 'seemingly' delay the start of a period too

but I would go with the false negatives for the mo. and test again tomorrow if no AF

I have heard of people who never did get a positive test but were definitely pregnant and have the child to show for it

Give it time - you will know for sure one way or another fairly soon.

Any recommendations for pregnancy tests - I bought cb digital as there is no discussion if it says preg or not. When I was testing for dd I bought the ones that give you two lines - and was never sure if therer was a line or not - eventally did 4 and had to get dp to check - doh.

Perhaps I just don't give much hormone out at the beginning?

(Would be quite excited - but I am still on maternity leave - how well would this go down - I'm sure I wouldn't be the first!)

go to the chemist and ask them if they can test for you ? (I think somem do an over the counter test).

Or go to your GP and ask him to do a blood test - explain what you have said here.

Hi

My friend had a late period, did a test which was negative and then got what she thought was a light period lasting just a couple of days. She also felt a bit sicky but knew she wasn't pregnant as she had had her period. She is about to have her baby any day now and is over the moon. Negative doesn't always mean negative, usually but not always?

I had a negative pregnancy test even though I was convinced I was pregnant. Infact I had 2 negatives and then finally a postive one when I tested again 2 days later.

hotmama with dd I did a test on 15 days after ovulation, 3 days later and another 3 days later all negative, then doctor did a test and it was positive.
With this one got negative on 14days post ovulation negative and another 3 days after that and the last was positive.

Uhm - well I might be then - didn't think I would have been the only one this has happened to.

So, if a buy another test today (any recommendations?) then should I wait until tomorrow morning or doesn't it really matter when you do the tests these days?

I assume if I go to the docs I will have to take a urine sample with me - do they do the test there straight away?

I had a negative test, went out that night and got horribly drunk. 3 days later still no period, tested again and it was positive - whoops. DS is now 3.9.

You don't need to test first thing in the morning, although that is when you have the highest concentration of hormones in your urine. I hope you get the result you want.

Try using clear blue with your first wee of the morning when the HcG should be most concentrated. Also, you can leave the test for longer than they suggest and sometimes a line does appear.
It always takes ages for a test to show pos for me. Post day 40 in both pregnancies! DH actualy fished my last test stick out of the bin where I had chucked it in disgust and found it had a line on it after all. They said late implantation, but both DS1 and DS2 were 2 weeks early.

Right, I have just bought a twin pack of clearblue (not digital) which helpfully let you know when you have weed enough and the tip turns pink! I didn't realise that you could wee too much - I did wee extra IYSWIM as I thought this was a good thing!

Will use the first test this afternoon as I can't wait until tomorrow - patience was never one of my virtues!

I'll let you know how I get on.

Just did the test and the result is big cross in the big window - so looks like I am going to be joining the Due In January thread. Looked on the BBC pregnancy calendar and the due date will be 29th January 2006 - if all goes well!

Now I need to break the news to dp who has nooooo idea!

DD was only born last October and I am only just back to below pre-pregnancy weight - and I wanted to lose some more before I got pregnant - oh well, I am 38 so it was about time I got cracking!
