mrsB FAB weight loss I'm finding the last stone a total pig to shift
I stopped sterilising with Iris at 6mths - once weaning started - stuffed everything in the washing machine.

jw cor -TWO wins I'll send you some heather in the post - kiss it for me and send it back in the SAE would you?!

Off out tonight. Going to see a silly movie but most importantly.....have sushi! YAY!!!! YAY and thrice YAY!!

dawntigga · 03/07/2009 18:11

jdub only caught the article on mixed doubles and as I had no pins to stick in my eyes could not listen anymore.

I've just caught you on listen again - how fab you were!

mrsb CONGRATS on the weight loss! well done!

now i am all confused about the steriling. with DS1 i did it until he was a year old. LO is nearly 6 months now... can i stop? chuck the lot in dishwasher?

Tee2072 · 03/07/2009 19:05

Well done mrsb. I would like to reiterate that sterilization is not done in the US at all. I am doing it here as my DH insisted. But I am wondering if I will do it for the whole 6 months. There are so many inconsistencies in the NHS guidelines on bottle feeding anyway, it makes me nuts. JW buy two lottery tickets, you're on a roll girl!!

floria I used to work in professional theatre. I would fire that guy if he worked for me. How incredibly unprofessional.

My mum is leaving tomorrow. I have mixed feelings on this. Glad to have had the help, glad to have my house back, sad to see her go. She knows this and feels the same way!!

iris66 · 03/07/2009 19:31

jw - missed the original and have failed to get iplayer to connect but will endeavour to listen asap (sorry)

mrsb - bugger the steriliser over 6mths. Hot soapy water/dishwasher is fine IMO (FWIW )

Floria - the mood I'm in he'd get the tongue pie to last a lifetime! bloody cheek (or words to that effect!)

hedgepig - entire family present when I go into labour OMG NO! Please don't wish that on me! - they'll be fussing like hens and I'll commit mass murder!!!!

Had a shitty day. Hormones I think . I want to kill DH (for no real reason other than he breathes in my direction . I think I'd better go now.

mrsboogie · 03/07/2009 19:42

awww iris sorry you are feeling meh and arrrgghhh - I remember that feeling well (especially at work) NOT LONG NOW!

Speaking of deliveries - another soapland delivery - Maria is about to have a twenty minute labour in true soap style not liking the Molly and Kev story either - its really out of character for them both.

D's hair is going blond and curly

Sterilisingis no more! and no they wouldn't sterilise at the nursery jw but I bring the sterile bottles and water in with me.

tee do you bother with warming formula? if you do my advice is don't bother as they get used to it at room temp and its a lot less hassle. You can have the bottles of cooled water ready and its easier when you are out and about also.

mrsboogie · 03/07/2009 19:46

aaand its born!

I read that she had to have a midwife on set with her filming that so that she didn't actually bear down too much (as she is really pg)

apols to those who don't know what I am on about

heron22 · 03/07/2009 19:48

iris sorry you're feeling blah. i was like that too when preg. exactly as you said it, i would glare at DH just because he is there!

tee cant believe how quickly time has flown. your mum leaving already!
i agree with mrsb dont get ur LO used to having warm milk. my LO is used to warm milk and it can be a pain!

heron22 · 03/07/2009 19:52

mrsb is this a tv show?

mrsboogie · 03/07/2009 20:11

heron yep sorry Coronation St.

D won't drink his milk if it is warm now!

Tee2072 · 03/07/2009 20:35

mrsb and heron he's been drinking it room temperature the whole time. The bit that has me all is the guidelines for the boiling water. In one NHS book it says cool for 30 minutes exactly and don't save it. In another one it says don't let it cool for 30 minutes but also don't save it.

I've been saving it into a jug every morning after boiling the kettle and using it from that jug all day. There is no way I am making a hungry 3 week old baby wait a half an hour for cooled water. Just stupid.

heron22 · 03/07/2009 20:44

tee so many conflicting instructions!

i have not got this NHS book luckily. so am going to continue what i do!

i do boil water and put it in a thermos. i do sterilise everything. and for cool drinking water, i just let it cool down to room temp.

heron22 · 03/07/2009 20:47

why not save boiled water? dont get that one!

mrsboogie · 03/07/2009 21:05

Oh I have no idea what the nhs wants I read about the 30 mins - boll*x! We just boil the kettle - fill the bottles and use them as and when. Its boiled water - what's going to happen to it?

johnworf · 03/07/2009 21:14

FWIW I make my bottles up in the morning and keep them in the fridge for 24 hours. If they're not drunk, then I throw them away (the milk that is, not the bottle). I've never made them up as I go along.

As for the boiled water...I think the 30 minutes is so it cools sufficiently not to interact with the plastic in the bottles (see BPA).

I use cooled boiled water to give to her in a bottle though.

I think you'll go mad if you follow every guideline they give you. They change and contradict each other anyway.

On the subject of sterilising, I'm told that sterilising after 6 months is a waste of time - by my HV - unless you are living in a dirty environment.

Oh forgot! K won't have warmed milk. Only room temperature. Always has done

OP posts:
johnworf · 03/07/2009 22:38

Just purchased a pair of these for K that should fit her when it gets a bit colder.

Sorry. Could not resist

mrsboogie · 03/07/2009 23:01

awww they are lovely

/ignores "natural ecotex certified materials" whatever that means...

Tee2072 · 04/07/2009 07:32

Good Morning!

Those are adorable, JW.

Got a package from my dad yesterday with a ton of clothes and other assorted baby stuff. The cutest are a little pair of winnie the pooh trainers! They probably won't fit him for ages, but they are just too adorable!!

johnworf · 04/07/2009 07:33

Sigh @ mrsb Duncha know what natural ecotex is???? It's from the Ecotex sheep

Plan A for this morning is to go swimming avec LO's but as DH isn't even out of bed yet, I'll be amazed if we get there.

Having real problems with K drinking - anything - not just milk. I've tried both bottle and cup incase it was the feel of the teat or the spout in her mouth but no, she's just being awkward with both. I'm getting a bit worried as her nappy this morning was hardly wet. To me, that says she's not taken enough liquids. Bloody heck. What to do? Thought I'd be sneaky and put her bottle in her porridge but she won't eat that either. Tight little lips firmly pursed. Would rather play with the fruit bowl and the new game of peel the bananas

Gosh, wasn't that fire in the tower block awful. I think the fatality count has gone up through the night too

OP posts:
johnworf · 04/07/2009 07:35

Awww tee that's really thoughtful getting a gift like that. Wouldn't worry about big sizes. They grow into them eventually! I have a bottom drawer that I put bigger sizes in and go through it every month or so to see what now fits.

OP posts:
iris66 · 04/07/2009 08:13

Morning all - all calm and rational again chez iris (much to DH's relief - poor bloke )

jw - those moccasins are dead cute and yes, awful about the fire! (further fuels my paranoia about always needing to be on the ground/first floors if ever we stay anywhere )
Just listened to your interview by the way (after nearly slitting my wrists through the tennis chatter). You sounded very composed

mrsb - well done on the weight loss - that seemed to go really quickly (or is it just me?)

jj - did you have a good night out? which film did you see in the end? (I've forgotten the last time I went ot the cinema )

tee - aww that was kind of your dad. As JW said, you'll be surprised how quickly Adam grows into things. You just have to remember to look in your "stuff to grow into" drawer!!

ermintrude - I guffawed loudly at your friend's comment is it a black country humour (or southern lack of)thing I wonder?

iris66 · 04/07/2009 08:20

meant to add - thanks for all your sympathy for my fragile hormonal state

johnworf · 04/07/2009 08:31

iris not long now and you'll be joining us being knee deep in (more) dirty nappies and (more) milk and jangling hormones! We should do a countdown to Tuesday

I'm woman on the edge of a nervous breakdown today. No reason apart from I'm due my monthly and feel like either killing or divorcing (or praps divorcing then killing) my DH.

JJ how was the sushi night out?

We have nice weather so far here but I see from forecast it's all due to change and we've loads of rain on the way. Great news for the garden where the flowers are wilting Great news for you pregnant ladies too. Not many of you left now !

Right, on that note, I'm off out. Ta ra

iris66 · 04/07/2009 08:33

jw - does K like fruit? fruit pots? cucumber? ice lollies? It's a hard one when they don't drink - it could be that her nappy was drier partly due to the hot sweaty night? I wouldn't worry too much unless what is in there is getting concentrated and whiffy or lasts for longer than a day.
