Yep, definitely!

Come and see us on the 40+ thread! Or lurk while you're trying to make your mind up...

GaribaldiGirl · 16/06/2009 21:28

you realise we'll be disappointed now if it's a false alarm!!! Speaking as a 43 year old pregnant woman i LOVE hearing of other 40 plus women being pregnant. then i can convince myself i'm not a weirdo.

cruisemum1 · 16/06/2009 21:42

garibaldigirl - my ds was born when I was 41 so you are defo not a wierdo . I am just wondering what i will do if i am again. I have all the signs but too scared to test. maybe it isthe menopause! i will defo keep you posted though. I don't know how I would feel now if it was a false alarm. That should be a defining moment I guess . Well done you though and good luck!

Yes. I would.

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 16/06/2009 21:45

if my age were the only issue I would have no question about progressing with the pregnancy.

cruisemum1 · 17/06/2009 07:32

so far a resounding YES! then? What about the risks? Worried.

MrsMattie · 17/06/2009 07:49

Can't say for sure, but as I am 32 and already feel like I have finished my 'baby making' days, it would be a huge shock and a massive adjustment. Not an ideal scenario at ^all6.

artichokes · 17/06/2009 08:40

Hi cruisemum, when are you going to test? In my opinion age is not the relevant factor, it's more about circumstances. I can see why you are stressed because you are recently bereaved, your DS was a poor sleeper, and (if I recall correctly) your DH is not v hands on. If you get a positive result take some time to let the initial panic pass and really understand how this might affect your life and your psychological wellbeing. With regard to medical risks you can always have a CVS or pay for a super-duper 12 week scan at the Fetal Mwdicine Centre.

Good luck!

insertwittynicknameHERE · 17/06/2009 08:46

Yes I would if age was the only factor that I was worrying about. But if there are other 'life' factors to think about then I would have to decide after I had considered those.

UpSinceCrapOClock · 17/06/2009 08:57

I would too (I think, although hard for me to say because I'm only 29).

But just wanted to give another success story to encourage you if you are pregnant and decide to keep the baby - my mum had my little brother when she was 44 - this was in the 1980's and he was child number six (and born at home with no pain killers, no bedding, luckily no complications and my dad delivered him. Although should mention that that wasn't the plan - everything was packed up in the car and she had just stripped the bed (so it would be all fresh for coming home to) before going to hospital when my brother decided he was coming there and then )

AbsolutelyFab · 17/06/2009 13:21

Hi cruisemum - let me tell you about my experience. I had my first when I was 42. When she was 9 months old I found out I was pg with no.2. I was devastated - for all sorts of reasons but probably going through some of what you're going through. I booked an appointment for a termination but saw sense and realised I couldn't go through with it and cancelled at the last minute. A few weeks later I had a mc and I will never ever forgive myself for not holding on to that little one and loving her from the start (she's a she to me).

I am now nearly 44 and hoping that wasn't my last chance. Good luck with whatever you decide but I always remember a counsellor telling me that this was probably my last chance and a lot of people don't even get that chance at our age.

so my friend has today told me that she is pregnant, she is 47, they weren't trying for a baby, it will be her third child, she is over the moon - but very philosophical that she is an older mum, it will come with greater risks of miscarriage and abnormalities.

It is still something to be celebrated.

geordieminx · 17/06/2009 16:57

FGS woman get thee to a chemist and do atest!!! We are all waiting with baited breath

PacificDogwood · 17/06/2009 17:05

cruisemum1, another resounding yes!

I am 43 with 3 DSs aged 6,5 and 15 months, currently TTC No4 , so am v heartened at the positive responses you have received.

For purely selfish reasons, thank you for starting this thread .

Hope you get the result you want, fingers crossed.

RoseBlossoms · 17/06/2009 20:47

I agree with geordieminx!!! We need an answer!!!

cruisemum1 · 17/06/2009 20:56

Artichokes - what a great memory you have. all that you recalled is correct. thye are some of my worrie too. ds sleeps great now but as a result of various things,I do not. It worries me that i could be any more tired than I am now. als, i had intended to do a college course starting September for a year adn go back to work when ds goes to school. it kind of puts a lid on my plans but for that reason i feel selfish and guilty. I will test at w/e adn then i will have a clearer picture.
geordiemix/roseblossom - will keep you posted, I promise!
You are all so wonderous adn positive. you make me feel blessed and fab (if it is positive) x

cm, I think you will have a gut reaction one way or the other if you test.

Do you think you were looking for your age to be a 'no no' in continuing a pg that you hadn't planned and are not sure of?

jellybeans · 18/06/2009 10:38

Yes I would keep any baby unless there were fatal/severe problems or it would def kill me (thinking of my other kids).

jellybeans · 18/06/2009 10:41

Just to add, my friend had her DD at 43 and is a fab mum and more energy than many of us other mums! She doesn't seem 'old' at all.

JulesJules · 18/06/2009 10:49

Another Yes!

I had my 2 dds at 41 and 43 ( I was 11 weeks off 44 when dd2 born) - both straightforward pg.

Scotia · 18/06/2009 11:06

Not got time to read the whole thread just now but will come back to it.

Yes, I definitely would - I have a 5 month old ds and I'm 43 I'm loving it - even with the inevitable tiredness.

cruisemum1 · 18/06/2009 17:51

gosh! you are all so positive. Not long now till I can do a test. but boy my boobs are sore!

OP posts:
geordieminx · 18/06/2009 20:51

Go now!! Go! Run like the wind!

rachels103 · 18/06/2009 23:22

My mum was 42 when she had me so I'd have to say yes...my sister and brother were 16 and 18 tho so a bit of a 'surprise'

RoseBlossoms · 19/06/2009 23:17
