I'm still up. Bad me. Tired and heading off soon.

The Yank aka DD#1's friend, is from Pennsylvania. Scranton to be precise. For those who are at this very moment shrugging saying 'where'? This is the place made famous by The Office USA. Everyone round here i.e. my house, is wearing tshirts with 'Scranton' emblazoned across them Like we're all part of the Scranton Cult.

Not looking at White Stuff....oh ok, I confess, I did. Didn't buy...no, no, no..that's bad. No buying.

mrsb well done on getting the skirt on. I need an onion sack at the mo as my tum is so distended and bloated I look like my name should be ermintrude

Which reminds me....haven't you had that baby YET?!

night night x

Tee2072 · 18/06/2009 05:53

Morning all

Attached to breast pump and forgot to grab the phone, so no Adam update yet this morning. I do believe my milk is finally really coming in, as breasts are a bit hard and very tender. And that was your TMI information update for the day.

Feel free to keep calling him the Yank. It makes me giggle.

Oh, yuck...Scranton. shudder And Pennsylvania is also where the Liberty Bell lives. Its not too far from New York. If that helps with the geography...

erm...Baby?

johnworf · 18/06/2009 06:34

LOL tee ~Why the shudder? Is it that bad??? I know he has family in NY and he flew to here from there too. I think his dog is also in NY being cared for at the mo.

You sound like you're getting your milk. Stick with it as they'll probably be quite sore today. If you get any lumps in your breasts, try massage them down towards your nipple. Btw is there a nurse who can show you how to do all of this on the SCBU? It's really helpful if your milk ducts get blocked (which they sometimes do and it's even more painful).

OOOh let us know update on Adam today. Fingers crossed for coming home this weekend. Make sure you slip him an extra shot of mummy milk

Hopefully he'll get to suck it himself today

Tee2072 · 18/06/2009 06:41

Just spoke to the hospital! HE TOOK A BOTTLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They want him there for another 24 hours and then he can come home!!!!

I am heading over there after ward rounds (9 - 10:30, the only time we can't be with him) and I'm going to try to get him to take my breast. Even if he needs a formula top up, cuz I'm only getting about 10ml per pump and he needs 50 ml.

JW Scranton is just one of those towns that everyone knows is horrid!

johnworf · 18/06/2009 06:50

tee try pumping while you can see him. It might make your breasts start producing more. You need a baby where your milk is concerned Even better if he cries while you are there then you'll feel them let the milk down Hope you got some good breast pads because you might start leaking milk today.

Excellent news that he's taken a bottle. If he keeps this up then he'll be getting out of jail

ooooh didn't know that re Scranton. I wonder if I should keep my mouth shut or tease The Yank mercilessly about him living in a crap town Yank baiting eh? Could become a national sport (terms & conditions apply: tee exempt as she's living with us peasants anyway )

Tee2072 · 18/06/2009 06:54

They won't let me JW I asked yesterday. I am hoping to get my hands on one of his blankets today so I can at least smell him. Actually, I am hoping to get him on the breast today!!

johnworf · 18/06/2009 07:19

They used to get me a chair and put the screens around us when I'd sit there pumping and looking at K in her incubator. They're not very accommodating at your unit in encouraging breast feeding from the sounds of things.

Is he wearing any clothes yet? At least a vest? You could use that. If he's still got his heart monitors on they're unlikely to let you dress him though as they'll need to see how his chest is rising and falling. Gawd, I remember the day they said I could put a vest on K after being only in a nappy for 2 months. It was like I'd won the lottery

He sounds as though he'll be out soon

Tee2072 · 18/06/2009 07:26

Its really very odd JW. On the one hand they ask me at almost every visit if I have any milk with me. On the other hand, they won't accommodate my sitting with him while I pump.

When I was there yesterday he was still in only a nappy. I have no idea if he's still all wired up to heart monitor etc, but his belly button line is out!

And, as I said, I am hoping I can actually try breast feeding him today.

Tee2072 · 18/06/2009 07:32

Interesting thread.

Neddie · 18/06/2009 07:56

Well done baby Adam! Once you start hearing him cry close by the milk will come in a bit better- in the first few weeks it was the trigger for me.

johnworf · 18/06/2009 08:22

Just had a quick look at that thread tee. Interesting the different reasons that us 'older' mums have babies. Mine was because....oh lots of reasons. All very mundane.

tee hopefully you'll get more support with your breastfeeding. If they don't help you, then you should insist on them finding someone who is able to. Don't struggle with it. It can put you off if they don't latch on straight away and you're not sure if you're doig it right. You have a voice. Use it!

If he's off the heart monitors, I'd ask if you can dress him. Those monitors are the only reasons why he wouldn't have clothes on. Also, if he's off the 02 he should be in an open crib. Also ask why if he's not. Once he's in an open crib it'll make changing, feeding, and picking him up lots easier

jeanjeannie · 18/06/2009 08:45

Morning all.

Well Scranton sounds a 'darling' of a place....probably a bit like Slough...hence why they filmed THe Office there I suppose. Hey, even his dog prefers NY!! Awwww, poor bloke - I'm sure it's nicer than SLough

tee gosh - they're very odd at your SCBU - they usually bend over backwards to help breastfeeding for mums who can't hold their babies. He may have trouble at first - but relax...let him nuzzle and give the feel of it. How exciting...he'll be home SO SOON!! YAY!

Oh yes, be prepared for exploding boobies today!

erm did yer fart in the night and end up with a baby?

johnworf · 18/06/2009 09:07

hahaha@fart! Yes, I wonder if ermintrude has had that baby yet. It's overdue as well!

It did cross my mind that Scranton may be the US equivalent of Slough/Reading type place. Reknown for it's nothingness. Actually Scranton in my mind sound too much like scrotum which doesn't give it a good start.

ermintrude13 · 18/06/2009 09:51

New ermintrude policy: Do Not Mention The Baby. I shall say nothing on the subject until the little bugger darling arrives. So there.

So Scranton is the US equivalent of Slough. Betjamin, wasn't it: Come lovely bombs and drop on Slough... .

Tee well done that boy Adam for sucking, hope you get him on the breast today. I agree with JW that they're not exactly being helpful about pumping, especially for a first-time mum. Trying it that way can only do good, not harm, and would make it much easier for you - focussing on the baby really helps the let-down. Anyway, great that you're producing a bit more, do keep massaging your norks in the bath and shower; all encourages more flow and prevents blockages.

Mrsb My sis and BIL have been going onandonandon at us to watch The Wire and finally bought DH the first series for his bd, so now we are hooked. I can't manage more than 2 episodes at a time though, whereas I can tell he'd like to stay up till dawn watching half a dozen. My sis says they use subtitles but we feel we are sufficiently in touch with our inner homeys to keep up with the lingo . My BIL did once have to get up in the night to remove the DVD from the player, having had a dream in which their 3 yr old DD got up and turned it on in the early morning and then jumped on their bed shouting 'Wake up you c*ksuckin' ho's, I want my motherf**in' weetabix' .

johnworf · 18/06/2009 10:03

lol ermintrude. Like the lingo o' de hood. My DH keeps going on about The Wire but I don't know anything about it tbh. I might get the first series for him if it's cheap. I've bought him a dart board for Father's Day. It's going in the office where he can practice all day long without spearing any passing children. Which reminds me, have to take a pic today to put on the card I'm making for him. Got to make it look like the LO's made it.......won't be difficult.

What baby ermintrude?

I've just booked snowboarding lessons and a session on the luge for DD#1 and The Yank for tomorrow. Should be a fun outting for them. It's on here and I know DD#1 has wanted to learn to snowboard for years.

mrsboogie · 18/06/2009 10:41

mornin all

Still with the teething whingies here, and the runs, and the grumps...

At what age do babies start having bad dreams does anyone know? D woke at 4am doing this weird scared cry, I took him out and he was alternating between staring at me with these huge startled eyes and looking up at the ceiling.

I have been a convert to the Wire for a long time. It's written by a proper journalist/writer rather than someone who writes tv shows and there is nothing Hollywood about it. I do believe it is the single best tv programme ever made. I also love the fact that some of the characters are genuine street kids and ex dealers/ vioelent criminals. Snoop did time for murder when she was young. There's a few real life cops in it as well.

I loved it when, during his election campaign Obama was asked who his faveourite tv character was and he said Oamr. That really upped his cool credentials for me!

Great news tee on the wee man - he will be hoem for the wekend hopefully!

BonzoDoodah · 18/06/2009 11:09

Tee woo hoo at the O2 and line being out. If it's any consolation - I was crap at pumping - could only get a few mls out every time and it took me bloody ages. BUT breastfeeding itself was no trouble - having abby there and making all the noises and smells - makes a massive difference - so don't go to the formula unless you want to or have to .... it will all work out.

Wonder if ermintrude has had that baby yet ...

BonzoDoodah · 18/06/2009 11:57

Where is everyone???

Mum's just phoned and they're letting her out! Woo Ho! Taking afternoon off to go and get her.

OP posts:
jeanjeannie · 18/06/2009 12:34

I'm here...just!

bonzo that's great news - fabulous!

I have no idea what The Wire is...MMmmm,,,,may have to investigate.

mrsB Ouch - poor MrD - he's been having a time of it. I think they dream as soon as they become more aware of what they're doing - seeing the world and getting excited. I know what you mean about that weird glazed look.

jw you are a lovely, lovely lady - booking them lesson...awwwww. Let's hope he doesn't break a leg eh....!

erm I shan't ask about the baby. Oooo, a baby? Is it here yet?

Tee2072 · 18/06/2009 16:54

Okay, so Adam is now in a lower level of care room and I got to actually try and feed him! It was just while he was in that particular room. He definitely knows what to do with a breast, and he got a few MILS, but we think he's just being a bit lazy. He's been being fed through a tube, so why should he work for it?

I am heading back over after my dinner to give him his 8pm feed. And he will probably be home Sunday or Monday.

jeanjeannie · 18/06/2009 17:16

tee that's just brilliant - you must be on such a high!!!! And the wonderful thing about BF is that they sneakily take loads more than you can pump and you can't tell. I couldn't ever get much out with a pump but Verity was a right little lump at three months...so she must have been getting it from somewhere

Enjoy your 8pm feed x

Back from the shops...Marlow is lovely sigh - in my dreams... I saw nothing that grabbed me enough to buy in either WHite Stuff or Fat Face....actually I wasn't in the clothes buying groove! However I think I must be having a nesting spurt because anthing vagely homey and I was there...like a vulture. Oh and cooking too....bought everything I need for a Pad Thai which is tomorrow's treat!

MIL back with Iris -I shall away

iris66 · 18/06/2009 17:21

Hi all - quick exit on Tues was courtesy of the lurgey which had me running to the loo all night (and missing twice because I couldn't run ) then laid up in bed for the next 24hrs (even my skin ached - it was vile) Luckily DH was able to cancel some work to stay home and look after me & the boys.

Fab news Bonzo!! hope your mum's safely back now.

Tee - Adam seems to be a pro! rll on hometime eh

mrsb - poor D really seems to be going through it (like my DS2) it's hard when you can do so little for them isn't it.

jw - what a fabby mum you are! Hope DD appreciates it

MW appointment was good (no sugar/good BP)though LO isn't engaged any more - clearly waiting for big sis to come home next week

Tee2072 · 18/06/2009 17:23

I was so excited about the feeding, I forgot to say, he's in a cot now, dressed and unwired. He still had his tummy feeding tube at 2 but it should be out when I go back at 8.

ermintrude13 · 18/06/2009 17:27

Tee that's such good news about Adam. And like JJ says, they manage to drink much more than you can pump.

JJ Mmm, Pad Thai, one of my favourite dishes ever.

bonzo Very glad your mum has been allowed home

The DC are begging to have tea before DH gets home because they are 'starving to death'. Despite having had school dinner and pudding earlier . It's just because they know it's spaghetti meatballs, the greedy little parasites treasures. Best go defend the saucepan .

iris66 · 18/06/2009 17:32

you've every reason to be excited Tee I'm so pleased for you
