LOL @ file him down and hoover him up! Brilliant

Where I go for my pedicure, they use something akin to a cheese slicer for getting the hard skin off your feet. The woman who did mine said my feet are in really good condition so didn't use it on mine...however, DD#1 needed her hooves filing down as they were covered in hard skin (nauseous emoticon). I think chiropodists use them. Eugh. The skin coming off looked like parmesan.....I hate parmesan already which is a good job as I'd never touch it again after seeing her feet!

iris66 · 16/06/2009 21:17

DD has always called parmesan "foot-cheese".... I never got it before (thanks jw) think I'm going to vom

jeanjeannie · 16/06/2009 21:25

Hahahah yep, jw the ped egg is exactly the same as our microplaner for hard cheese. Oh gross - "foot cheese" ....trots off to barf

DP is cock-a-hoop he's been doing some serious ebay tactics....and he's won a nailer...Oooo, it was all very tense - I told him not to stand up quickly and whoop just in case he fainted again!

johnworf · 16/06/2009 22:02

Does that mean you're going to get nailed tonight then?

I hope tee has her feet up on the sofa/bed and her DH is shoving fine belgian chocolates into her mouth at her command.

Ah yes, the mysteries of foot cheese aka parmesan are revealed for the first time on MN.

Tee2072 · 16/06/2009 22:07

I do indeed, jw! Well, except for the chocolates part. I am typing lying on the sofa! And heading to bed very very soon!

ermintrude13 · 16/06/2009 22:23

I like Star Wars too, so the 'freak' label is said with affection. Honest...

Iris I'm afraid we missed you - we're working our way thru The Wire and that takes up all my TV time. Bone marrow - yummy, extremely nutritious. I had it on a steak at the Oxo tower in the days when I used to go out at night.

I liked the look of those fish which nibble the hard skin off your feet - not sure if many beauty parlours do that in the UK, it's probably a Japanese thing. But it would be nice and tickly rather than grating.

Threw up all my tea tonight . Have been puking every other day for a fortnight so don't think it's a Sign, just bloomin' yukky. Due date tomorrow - DS thinks the baby is on order and will arrive bang on time but I fear he may be waiting a little longer yet. night night all.

mrsjupiter · 17/06/2009 06:16

Yet again I'm writing to tell you I can't write now but it's the only way I can stay in the game at the moment. I'm off to my knitting group. Yes, yes I know - saddo trailing spouse.
I'll have you know it's quite trendy now (that's me, always bang on trend ) and that aside it actually helped me keep calm when going through scary bits of my last pregnancy. Am I protesting too much? I guess I'd have more cred if I wasn't knitting a tea cosy at the moment.

As a woman with first trimester hormones I'd like to thank you all for the foot cheese conversation. Truly life-enhancing. Will try to leave that thought behind with my stomach.

Later.

Tee2072 · 17/06/2009 07:05

Morning all!

Finally got a chance to go back and read the 'where the hell is Tee's DH with the announcement' bits of the thread! Thanks for all the well wishes and such!

For the record, DH had a freezer full of my cooking...and he ate the Pot Noodles. I was like this at him when he told me!!

Just spoke to hospital...he's off his oxygen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Has a little bit of a temp, so I am glad they did the lumbar puncture on Monday because it does look like he might have an infection. He's sucking on his dummy, so maybe he'll be ready to take a bottle or breast soon. And then he can come home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tee2072 · 17/06/2009 07:17

JW forgot to say, our SCBU has a few rooms available, but they are mostly for mummy's to spend a night with baby's before they come home. No other rooms available for me to stay with him.

johnworf · 17/06/2009 07:59

tee ah yes, the rooms they have are for rooming in for parents taking their LO home. What a shame nothing for you to be near to him. They do have a room though where you can express your milk and a fridge to keep the milk in don't they?

Brilliant news that he's off the O2. Knew it wouldn't be long. He was only in a whiff of it anyway Why did they do a lumbar puncture on him? Were they looking for something in particular? Usually infection markers can be found in their blood sample that they take for blood gasses. Anyway, at least they've found something. What are they doing about it? Will they start him on IV antibiotics?

At least he's sucking on his dummy which is a good sign that he might be getting ready for a bottle/breast. When are they going to try him? Mind you, if he's got an infection, they may wait until it's gone. I found with K she was like this; you have to get rid of this, before this can happen, then this outcome! It's like one of those puzzles where you have to slide the tiles to make the picture but all the tiles are in the wrong place It'll come good very soon.

Well I'm phoning this morning for a place at the softplay group. You have to phone a week in advance to get a place and even then it's not guaranteed. If you don't phone before 9am then you won't get a place - I'm told. I've also got her name down for baby signing classes and am on a waiting list. I'm amazed at the classes they are running near to me and only found out the other day when my HV mentioned it. We've got, apart from the ones I've mentioned, La Leche League, NCT, mother and baby, baby massage etc. Am quite impressed. No wonder they have waiting lists for everything!

mrsjupiter I also knit but alas, not picked up my needles in a good few months. Last things I made were some bootees for K. I used to knit a lot in the past and all my boys action men were well dressed in knitted uniforms. Not trendy nor army regulation but when they lost their real uniforms, knitted was the replacement Also did the dolly clothes and their Thomas the Tank jumpers which they all still remember with affection It's not sad at all and I'm not surprised it's 'on trend'.

I think we're having the yank and the manc around on sunday for lunch. From what I can gather, DD#1 has told him all about her mother's 'ledgendary sunday lunch' () complete with Yorkshire puddings. These of course are totally alien to him as they don't have them across the pond so I'm to make them for his first taste Awwwww. Sweet.

Tee2072 · 17/06/2009 08:27

JW He's been on antibiotics from the start. The lumbar puncture thing was very interesting, because it was ordered by one consultant over the weekend and then a different consultant told us Monday that he didn't think Adam needed it, but he wouldn't change the order.

It was ordered because his temp is raised a bit, like 1 degree. Monday's consultant thought it was just because his little body was working so hard to get him air. But maybe weekend consultant was right, since its still raised. Hence me being glad they did the puncture. All of his other cultures have come back negative.

Yes, they have milk rooms!! So far I've only been getting about 2 mls per expressing session, so they are just giving that straight to him, as he's on about 22ml every 2 hours right now.

jeanjeannie · 17/06/2009 08:31

Morning all. Knitting is FAB! I knit!! Not tea cosies though Although mrsJ I think a tea cosy can almost be classed as stylish kitsch whereas a dolly in in a dress toilet roll cover is unexcusable!!

tee excellent news. Sounds like he's getting his suck action going too - brilliant. That's what Iris struggled with oh and she was jaundiced. Once he's got this infection out of the way I reckon he'll be good to come home and probably be as strong as an ox!! Good to hear your feet were up last night. And i know what you mean about the pot noodle - we were all like "typical bloke!"

erm anything to report?

jw ah - your life is about to become a diary of a small toddler's social life! We only have private soft play here...and it's either £8 per go or £100 per year Bloody home counties....we got our at £30 yr introductory price but I'm darned if we're doing it again! Sounds like your roasts are abpout to become legendary across the pond

Oh - Iris did a pee on the potty -carried on farting then we heard her shouting about 10pm. Went upstairs and she was pooing in the potty - with her nappy and pjs on...sweeeeeeeet

Tee2072 · 17/06/2009 08:36

Yeah Iris!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

johnworf · 17/06/2009 09:00

JJ that's fab that iris is getting the right idea about what the potty is for even if technically, she didn't get it right. Minor details

Blimey you have to pay for softplay???? Lordy. I've just read that it's £1 for a 2 hour session so really can't complain about it. There's something on everyday for babies so guess I will become one of those people who goes from playgroup to mother and baby group and back again for the next 2 years until she goes to school.

tee ah you've found out that individual doctors do individual things and not all sing from the same hymn sheet! That's what pi$$ed me off that there was no 'one voice' as it were. In the end I got fed up with it and asked them to talk to me before they did anything as I wanted to know exactly what was going on......yep, troublemaker mum was I

Did I mention the lady from the GMC rang me last night to confirm that the journalist from The Independent is very interested in my story and would like to def interview me? Well she did, and he does so there we go

tee you've prolly already been told this but don't forget to express around 1-3am. It's that feed that gets your supply going more than any of the daytime ones Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs.

ermintrude have you had the baby yet?

jeanjeannie · 17/06/2009 09:17

Oh tee I've just had an email from a friend who was in such a similar situation to you - her DD was in SCBU for 8days....now she's home and gone from a few drips expressing to handing back the pump and going fully BF in two weeks...wow...I think that's cracking...shows that some LOs can do it! 2mls sounds about right to me...and yep jw is right - there is something 'magical' about that early morning milk! See what's on the telly and plan some viewing around it

Had another wee on the potty this morning...along with Tomboleeboo 'un' apparently he wanted a poo but could only manage a fart

Off to a cheap playgroup! I'm so of your soft play facilities.

jeanjeannie · 17/06/2009 09:17

Iris had a wee in the potty - not me. Blimey, I'd never get up if I squatted that low

BonzoDoodah · 17/06/2009 09:26

Bloodybastardingbolloxing pregnancy brain. Came back from visiting Mum, sat down at 9pm to watch Iris ... and I hadn't recorded the bloody thing!!! Grrrrrr. Hope it was a fun night.

Tee lovely photos of Adam - he's so sweet. Glad he's improving - good news.

Ermintrude Can we have phots of the baby yet?

Neddie thanks for the recipe - sounds yum.

My mum was moved to the cardio unit in the night and is having a scan this morning for something or other - basically to find out why she has this episode. I'll know at lunchtime.
I'm off to the toddler group with Matilda as Mum usually has her today. I've not been there for nearly a year so it's going to be interesting seeing all those little ones a year older. Mind you M is going to be a bundle of laughs ... she had a late night followed by an early wake-up (her doing) and now she's stropping round the house like a little madam with PMT. Great!

ermintrude13 · 17/06/2009 10:02

No, I'm not typing one-handed whilst balancing my newborn at the breast. Although I did find a new haemorrhoid had popped out to say hello this morning. And I threw up my orange juice with Spa Tone in it, and my prunes. .

MrsJupiter 'stitch and bitch' is all the rage - my youngest sister, still in her twenties, knits all the time. I find it therapeutic but haven't done it for ages.

Tee Good news about the O2, and hope they stop messing about with potentially unnecessary things!

JW the yank will love you forever once you give him Yorkshire puds. Lots of gravy. Mmmm, I wish someone was going to cook me a roast. .

Tell us when your Indie piece is coming out. Will you need a new outfit for the photo? .

JJ am at the costs of softplay down your way. Even the commercial ones here charge about £3.50 for unlimited play and there are lots of church hall toddler groups with organised craft activities and cupboards full of toys, where you pay a pound and DC get juice and biscuits while mums and carers get tea and coffee. They were a real lifeline for me when we arrived here with DS aged nearly 1.

Well done to Iris on her pot

Bonzo hope the scan goes well and that it gives reassuring news for your ma.

Right, off to bounce on my gymball and twiddle my nipples or something

johnworf · 17/06/2009 10:17

ermintrude don't forget to draw the curtains or the neighbours will be wondering why you're bouncing and twiddling Great news about your piles

Hope they're not planning a pic of me as that would be scary None mentioned and I assumed he'd be interviewing me by phone. Surely there can't be real journalists north of Watford to meet up with me?

bonzo great to hear that your mum is being moved (they don't move really ill people do they so she must be on the mend). At least they'll find out what's going on with her ECG/scan or whatever they decide to do

johnworf · 17/06/2009 10:32

Another article on the warpath of us geriatric mothers

This one actually really peed me off. Like there's no hope for us without IVF (we're effing living proof!!!)

I feel a letter of complaint coming on.

mrsboogie · 17/06/2009 10:48

mornin all

couldn't get on yesterday evening as Mr has decided that going to bed early is for wimps so there were elements of compulsion and screaming to the evening.

He has also decided that nursery is not for him the happy smile of anticipation has been replaced this week by instant bawling as soon as he is handed over. I know he is 9 months now and that's the age for separation anxiety but I feel soooo guilty and I thought he wouldn't do this as he has been loving it for 4 months now. He is such a happy chap nomrally I hate to see him upset.

tee good news on the dummy sucking - and I hope that corner is turned soon and they give you a coming home date for Adam and you can get him into all those lovely new clothes and take him out in the buggy and all that fun stuff.

jw lol at the Manc tempting the Yank with mummy's roast dinners - he'll never go back! what's the angle of the Indy piece? did I miss you explaining?

bonzo hope your mum is ok and you get some good news soon.

jj sounds like Iris is reallly getting her head round this potty business!

cheers v muchly for the foot scraping chat ladies {pukey emoticon}

ermintrude ...that cervix started effacing itself yet???

Tee2072 · 17/06/2009 12:17

Oh yeah, I forgot to say...erm baby yet?

::flees::

jeanjeannie · 17/06/2009 12:28

We survived playgroup! I always find them quite hard work....some of them mums just really get on my wick! All very cliquey and look at you as though you want to join in...and you don't you just want them to bog off Oh I think they're the sort that are in training for the school gate elite

bonzo hope your mum's scan goes ok. And I also hope M snapped out of her hormonal-like rage!

jw oh that article is pants. Didn't think Winifred Robinson would look like that. What the DM wants is a nice girl - about 22 who meets a banker - has no career of her own and gets married, has kids and is happy to look after them on hubby's money and smiles like a deranged 1950s housewife

erm we're expecting BIG things (about 8lbs 9oz is my guess) from the ball bouncing and nipple tweaking. Could you manage a curry for lunch perhaps and slip in a little sex? That should do the trick

Off to make a father's day card from the painting Iris did at playgroup! She also painted her face bright pink....and I got told off (seriously) by a sour-faced mum because her son copied Iris He got into the car all scrubbed and clean - Iris got into her car-seat looking like crusty the clown...!! So, I forgot my wipes...someone shoot me!

mrsboogie · 17/06/2009 12:41

ehm... she told you off because her child copied another 2 yr old???
riiiigghhtt..

you're not selling this playgroup malarky to me at all jj

jeanjeannie · 17/06/2009 12:48

Ah, it's a bit like that round here....chavs or snobs and not much inbetween. I think it's a malaise of living just on the edges of London and not in a city....it's sort of ...well....odd!!!

Already a friend (who I thought was a friend)has told people that Iris is being assessed for ASD/AS/spectrum thingy (!) and there have been loud rumblings that she should go to a 'special' group and really, you wouldn't know or tell she was 'different' apart from the fact she really can't sit still for longer than five mins..whereas all the others are very compliant. I don't think I'll be going back.
