scarlotti · 29/05/2009 22:57

flappy are you sure of your dates in terms of your lmp? If so, that's not a reliable way of working it out as it goes on ovulation on day 14. I've always ovulated around day 15/16 however this time it was on day 10 - so a 6 day difference.
Also, the dating by scans at this early stage can be subjective as they grow so rapidly that even getting the markers a mm or so out can change the dates by quite a few days.

I guess I'm just trying to say hang in there until your next scan.

flappybitsoskin · 29/05/2009 23:10

thankyou scarlotti

looking back at calandar - I had sex on day 18 - er that was it all month so had to be concieved then

so that's 4 days clawed back

but arrrgghhh is it even worth worrying and hoping? My mom was just really matter of fact today and said ' doesn't sound good - just put it out your mind'

The day I'm booked for next scan is v sad anniversary as well

Eek am a barrel of laughs tonight, eh ladies

scarlotti · 30/05/2009 08:13

flappy just try and hang in there until you get actual evidence. Sperm can also live up to 5 days (usually normally 3 or 4) so you could easily have had sex on day 18 then ovulated on day 21 and they would have been there waiting. All the ttc advice is to do it this way (i.e. have them waiting) as when the egg arrives you only have a window of about 6 - 18 hours.
Amazing we ever manage to concieve at all really

As for your Mum, she sounds just like mine. Am sure they try and mean well, but the matter of factness just comes across as unsympathetic Mine has been known to tell 2 of us within the family that maybe we should give up trying after 2 m/c. Luckily we both ignored her and one now has a lovely ds and hopefully in Nov I'll have a gorgeous baby too

Let's hope that the scan turns a sad anniversary into a happy celebration

flappybitsoskin · 30/05/2009 08:59

that's a lovely post, scarlotti - thank you

I guess in part our mothers' attitudes come from them not wanting us to suffer / go through hard times. My mother is quite a tough, matter of fact person who herself has faced some incredibly agonising stuff (late mc and sb and then losing a grown up dc) She's had to toughen up and maybe it does protect her a little.

How good for your mother that you did ignore - she will now have a lovely new grandchild come november

blondieminx · 30/05/2009 18:56

Evening all

Back for a proper catch up tomorrow - just wanted to say although hosi appointment was a nightmare and I ended up in tears the scan itself was fine...and did show just the one .

Back tomorrow to have a proper read through. Hope you're all doing ok...

endless · 30/05/2009 18:58

Hi,
Sad today.
friend of dh's popped round today with their baby.
We were pregnant at the same time, i should have one the same age.

flappybitsoskin · 31/05/2009 15:54

hi all

endless - can empathise with yr post. I know that feeling well

Sometimes I also feel sad when I see dd's NT peers too.

I guess my only constructive advice is to say its natural to feel sad. And sometimes to feel quite bitter and angry. One day though, you will be that other person - the happy one with the newborn. Then the gorgeous toddler and so on.

Your losses won't ever go away but will be easier to deal with in time

RubyF · 31/05/2009 22:30

Hi

I ve just found out about this thread from the pregnancy site.

I m a little messed up still as I MC in Dec and after 2 months of bleeding finally had 2 periods around the same time. Have been TTC and this month have had no period. Have sore breasts and nausea, cannot eat anything properly. But I m really scared and haven't even taken a test- doesn't seem real somehow.

Can anyone offer some advice please? Thanks

blondieminx · 01/06/2009 00:16

Evening everyone

Wow lots of news to catch up on! And being blonde AND having what dh is calling my "preg-head" is making me rather scatty so I'm v sorry in advance to anyone I've missed.

First congrats to those with gorgeous new arrivals! It's lovely to hear that people are graduating with lovely little bundles.

Ruby I would say take a test and if positive then at least you know one way or the other, and can then book in with your GP. Then you can just take one day at a time and pop on here for support, lots of lovely ladies here who have had similar experiences. Let us know how you get on!

Tamlin OMG re your hospital A. I like your hubby's style tho, to go get the scan done at a date/time suitable for you and to then bill them for it with an explanation as to why! Really hope you get your scan soon, wherever you end up having it, and that all is fine.

Scarlotti hope you get a nice letter saying all is fine this week. You did make me giggle with what you said about scrutinising gussets . And what lovely posts to Flappy, this thread really has got some lovely ladies on it

Flappy thinking of you. And hoping scan in 2 weeks is much more positive. One day at a time eh.

SydneySuze hope you are recovering ok from your fall, very pleased that all is well with LittleSyd and that your time in hospital was reassuring. Hope LittleSyd has a very wiggly next few weeks to let you know all is still fine! How's your hubby getting on with his narwhals?

Gently so agree with your comment about how we're supposed to know what to do next and unhelpful attitudes from hospital staff.

Jardins hope you've had a relaxing weekend and are feeling a bit more comfortable about things? How are your symptoms now? I think I might have had my first bit of morning sickness - except it happened on Friday evening! I had to have a lie down I felt so queasy while dinner was in the oven but as soon as I'd eaten I was fine. Very odd.

Endless it's rough isn't it. It will be our turn one day.

So - my hospital appointment was a bit of a nightmare. Edited ahem highlights - I turned up 10 mins early for appt but was seen FIFTY minutes late. Thyroid consultant had unintelligible accent (kept having to ask him to repeat himself) says will monitor me every month and gave me a blood test form for before next appt with him. Then he said "are you seeing [obs consultant] today?" at which point I burst into tears as the whole morning had been characterised by them apparently not having any clue as to what was happening with my care. Oh and the obs consultant who I'll be under is the same one who saw me last year and failed to diagnose my thyroid problem, grr (memorably telling me that the reason my periods had disappeared was that I was underweight - despite BMI of 20 - and that I should "go off and eat lots of cake") . So I pointed out that given this was my first ever antenatal appt and that I'd already had one miscarriage and I was really worried it could happen again so I was a bit concerned that they didn't seem to have much of a care plan so far. Anyway at that point they decided I would see the ob consultant too who then said congrats and sent the nurse off to arrange an early scan. Obs consultant then ruffled my hair on the way out and siad not to worry. All of which stress paled into the background when I saw lo on screen for the first time, the sonographer lady was really nice and was explaining what was what. Have got 12 week dating scan in 5 weeks after we get back from hols so should be able to see more then. But having the scan has definately made it seem more real, and today I have reached 8 weeks so thanks to Crunch's earlier post I'm now feeling slightly more relaxed that it might all be ok - but still very anxious about every little twinge

blondieminx · 01/06/2009 00:20

I'm going to be brave and put myself on the list

jardins · 01/06/2009 08:47

Good morning lovely ladies! I'm thinking about you all and wishing you a good worry-free week!

This is a quickie and I shall be back for a more indepth post, promise!

Blondieminx congratulations on putting your name done on that list. Way to go! I'm really chuffed for you.

The morning sickness (aka all day sickness) kicked in a couple of days ago. Yukky but reassuring, if you see what I mean. I even had it in the middle of night so it stopped me from sleeping for a while. Then I woke up this morning and my first thought was 'I don't have anymore ms, oh no, it's all going wrong!' The rollercoaster continues....

jardins · 01/06/2009 12:07

Er, just a question to those more advanced ladies. Those who had ms, did you find it varied from day to day? Thanks to you all.

flappybitsoskin · 01/06/2009 18:11

jardins - know I'm not too advanced this time but from previous successful pg's - yes yes yes. Comes and goes in waves...

scarlotti · 01/06/2009 19:08

Hello lovely ladies

blondieminx congratulations on putting yourself on the list. Great news on the scan and yes, you are now 98% sure of taking home your baby

jardins I wasn't actually ever sick but was nauseous from morning to night. I found eating helped, fruit worked for me but carbs can work too. It seemed to get worse if I was hungry or tired. The only thing that saved me was acupuncture - I had a few sessions and right from the first one it got rid of most of the nausea.

jardins · 01/06/2009 19:12

Thank you so much flappybitsoskin for your reasurance. I must say it's a tad stressful (to say the least) after two days of full on ms to have had it so light today. In previous (successful) pregnancies, it may well have happened too but I wouldn't have worried. Of course since my mc I am paranoid about it all happening again. And one day with less ms makes me believe it's all gone pear-shaped. How far gone are you now? And how are you feeling?

dan39 · 01/06/2009 20:05

Hi jardins - just to say I had horrid ms with my first pg which ended in mmc, and barely any with my second pg...she is 15 weeks old today! (hence my lack of presence on here ) so don't worry too much about it coming and going!

hi to everyone else, and those of you at the early stages, remember one day at a time!! I don't get much chance to post but I do read!

Hope that?s everyone now ? so many graduates! Lovely to see such a lot of MC avengers now with real live babies to worry about. Right, will read through threads and post a proper one soon ? must just stuff face some more with this week?s favourite ? raspberry sorbet!!!!! Yum.

sydneysuze · 01/06/2009 22:53

OK, hope everyone has been loving the sunshine ? probably not much fun for those of you about to pop, like Herb and Mumface - hope you are able to keep cool. Ice lollies all round for you

Herb you made me laugh asking how the roses were after my spontaneous cartwheel / faceplant straight through them ? they are not good , unless there is anyone out there who thinks that a very large person-shaped hole through the middle of a bush is cutting edge garden design. Three guesses what I?ll be buying my parents this weekend....

Crunch you made me blub (again!!) with the guinea pig noises thing! Very cute. How are things?

Creameggs good luck for Weds, let us know how you get on.

Tamlin am still so on your behalf at Hospital Ae and their crap attitude, but am v.v.impressed with your DH. Go Mr.Tamlin you rock! Also Minx am not enamoured of your hospital either but at least you got a quick peek and have made it to 8 weeks, yay! Not sure quite how I?d take having my hair ruffled by my consultant ...

Scarlotti am glad to hear pains have subsided. Am quite disconcerted at the thought of disco dancing bumps on the point of orgasm though ? how bizarre that must feel! Will have to test this theory when DH returns.

Gently thank you so much for the orange. And don?t worry about missing apostrophes ? I?m so mentally unhinged at the mo I?m sure I?m passing god knows what from my students ... hardly useful for them (and of course you still get to graduate from this class with flying colours )! Have you had any more dizziness?

Flappy congrats on your early scan remember as Scarlotti says, lots of variation on early ones in terms of dates, plus sperm are foxy little things and can outwit our best laid plans for them....Ruby, welcome to Knicker Checkers Anonymous ? you are in the right place , and Endless it is an awful kind of pain to see babies the same age as our lost ones would have been. You will get there too ? have a look at the list and see how many women have had miscarriages and then healthy babies since last Nov. It helps a bit.

and passes ice cream cones to everyone else

Gosh that?s a bit more than I was intending to write! All?s well with me, DH still off in the frozen north of Greenland, unlikely to be back before the 15th which does not thrill me. I hope every time you guys watch those fab BBC wildlife documentaries in future you?ll be thinking sympathetically of all the wives and partners left behind while their DHs spend months up to their armpits in elephant poo or similar to get those awesome shots! Maybe it?s being pregnant that makes the time more lonely too. Had a nice midwife appointment on Friday, but am feeling slightly disconcerted as she is still insistent that I?m having a boy (based on the heartbeat). This is despite the sonographer saying she was ?90% sure? LittleSyd was a girl. Now I am a (fairly) rational person most of the time, but this has got me thinking....

ashleighbeee · 02/06/2009 13:32

Good Afternoon ladies!

I am awfully sorry that I have been so rubbish at posting lately! I have no excuse apart from that its been so busy at work and after speaking to my work about maternity leave & holiday, i have decided to go off about 4 weeks before my little gorgeous boy is here... so only roughly 8 weeks left to work!!! I cannot wait... It all seems to be coming around awfully quickly.

I have had a quick flick through the past couple of pages..

Cece CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! I hope you're all settling in well these arrival posts get me going every time!!!

suze and littlesyd

alana39 · 02/06/2009 13:42

Hello everyone, just back having been away over half term and haven't had time to catch up with all your news yet but congrats Ashleigh on getting to the home stretch and that's great news about your house.

Can I ask a quick question? I'm now 18 1/2 weeks, have felt the odd small shuffle (I think!) but no major movement and can't remember when I felt my other 2 move for the first time. I know you often feel movement earlier with subsequent pregnancies but as I can't remember when they moved before, not sure what "earlier" would be! Have others found they haven't felt movement much earlier than 20 weeks with 2nd / 3rd pgs? Feel a bit like I'm looking for new things to worry about now I don't have any more bleeding but the time between scans / midwife visits with dopplers does drag by sometimes, doesn't it?

ashleighbeee · 02/06/2009 14:00

I cant answer your Q as am a first timer... I hope one of the other ladies can alana but i know what you mean about time dragging!!

I am off to midwife today actually and am due to get the maternity grant form - does anyone know how long it takes for this to be processed? xx

rainbowdays · 02/06/2009 14:18

Hi I am not sure where I belong at the moment, I don't want to be on the due date threads, but feel like being on the miscarriage thread is a bit premature (I hope). I am currently 7weeks pg with bleeding and cramps..... had scan yesterday, measuring 6w1d and no heartbeat. So I have to wait til nextweek to get next scan to know what is going on. I have had two early m/c's in the last few months (Previously I have had 3successful pregnancies and one other early miscarriage). So I am in limbo land for a week, and feeling quite numb. Please is there anyone here that can reassure me that the bleeding and cramping and slightly behind in dates is absolutely fine....? Mentally I am thinking the worst, but my heart wants to hope for the best. Sorry this is a very me post.

scarlotti · 02/06/2009 14:44

Afternoon ladies

sydney I'm with Ashleigh on this one, I don't think the hb rate is a reliable indicator but the sonographer getting a fairly good look at the relevant 'bits' is so I'm still in the pink camp! My mw told me the other day that the hb is a bit of an old wives tale as all sorts of things can speed it up/slow it down, including the mum's adrenalin levels at the time.

ashleigh good to hear from you - was getting a little concerned something might have happened. Great news on reaching trimester 3 and also on the house exchange Would you like to bring your cleaning frenzy to my house?!!
There's another thread on the pregnancy board about the maternity grant and how long it was taking - hopefully it's sped up since it was introduced.

Nope, still no bloody letter from my test. Read my nhs booklet and apparently I'll get a letter in around 10 days so it should be any day now. You'd think that it would be slightly speedier given I'm now 17.5 weeks so quite late on to be making horrid decisions if the worst were to be discovered.

alana I'm on dc3 and felt movement this time around from about 14 weeks but that's only because I know what to look for. It still felt like wind for a few weeks. I'd say you're right on track as we won't get proper kicks for another few weeks yet. I get some days with movement, and others with none. I like to think of it as feeling it when baby swims up to the top of my tummy. There's a lot of room in there still for them at this stage (I'm a week behind you) so easy to not feel things for a while.
If you get really worried, try scrunching yourself up like for a forward roll and I'm sure you'll feel a kick of complaint

rainbowdays we have quite a few lovely ladies on here who bled and cramped for weeks and are now nearing the end of their 2nd trimester. Am sure one will be along soon to reassure you with their stories.
As with flappy, our dates can be unreliable at this early stage too as who actually knows when the sperm met the egg. Try and stay positive.

crunch hope all is ok with you and yours and h is on the way to becoming dh again.

Hope I haven't missed anyone, sorry if I have.

HerNameWasLola · 02/06/2009 14:45

Rainbowdays so sorry to hear you're going through this. I don't know that there is anything I can say to make it easier, but please know so many of us have been where you are and we all remember what it's like How sure are you of your 7 weeks date? Fingers crossed the next scan brings you some answers.

cece · 02/06/2009 14:52

Thanks for graduating me

All OK here. Tom still losing wieght so not been signed off by mw yet. Got another visit next week to see if he puts some weight on. He is feeding loads though so not too worried at the moment. He is very wriggly so I think he is just using a lot of calories!

Hope everyone else is well - sorry not read though all of the posts - my mind is a bit of a fog at the moment.
