Cece !! CONGRATULATIONS!!! Can't wait to see some photos of Tom Fantastic news!

Sorry not to have been posting lately, it's a bit rubbish without the laptop... But I have been lurking when I can. Glad to see so many positive situtions atm

Ash Huge congrats on the house progress! I bet you can't wait to be back in your own place!

We saw the consultant this morning, all god, and I still love him He's moved my due date forward by 4 days, so the race is officially on between me and Ashleigh! Who will it be? Blue or pink?!? I'm not really convinced my new date is right, but since he promised me there won't be any pressure to be induced I'm happy to go with it.

Am currently typing on the world's worst computer, so I'd better go before the whole thing disappears anyway/I throw the bloody thing out of the window Sorry not to catch up with everyone properly, will keep lurking til the new laptop arrives (please god soon) but since we haven't even heard back from the insurers yet... Oh well. Could be worse!

All god?!? All good Freudian slip perhaps?!?!

ashleighbeee · 02/06/2009 15:36

Scarlotti you're 17.5 weeks! Where has time gone?

I hope that the letter brings good news, and I am thinking if there had been not so good news you're more likely to have recieved a telephone call?? I am taking it as a good sign however that it is taking so long. When I read your post to Alana I thought you were likening the baby to a fish or something, you feel them when they swim up for some food... I have no idea why but now i have an image of a baby swimming to the top of water to get a little bit of food... I just completely misread the whole thing and now feel like a nutty mum!

Lola helloooo to you, are you going to be getting your laptop replaced - I think you're posting as frequently as i am!! Hopefully you'll have one with super quick internet connection by August, therefore I will know if you've pipped me to the post! I am pleased you have such a lovely consultant! It'll be lovely if we go on the same day though.

Okay, I am back from the midwife and in a bit of a tizz...! I know fundal height is not the most important measurement and i know 2cm is only 2cm.. BUT i am 2cm out! I am measuring only 2cm bigger than the last time i went.. and the midwife said that the baby's head has shifted south! I am back in 2 weeks to be measured again and what not and if i am still measuring small they're shipping me off for another scan. sigh. I thought things got easier now?! Please flood me with positive stories and how this happens to everyone etc etc.. I need a hand hold xx

cornflakegirl · 02/06/2009 15:52

Alana - I'm on DC2, and also didn't feel movements earlier this time. That is, I maybe did, but I wasn't really sure till around 19-20 weeks. I have an anterior placenta, which apparently can mean that you feel movement later - don't know if that's the case for you. I was also scared to let myself believe that I was feeling movement, in case I then went to the midwife and there was no heartbeat - it wasn't till there were definite kicks that I would really trust them, iyswim.

Ash - congrats on hitting the third trimester - it's a good feeling, isn't it? Try not to worry about the measurements - I've always been a bit dubious about them myself. The amount these sprogs move about, presumably some times they're more bunched up than others, and 2cm really isn't very much.

ashleighbeee · 02/06/2009 15:59

Thank you Cornflake I am pleased you said that.. sigh.. I think i just assumed after my 12/20/3rd trimester week everything would be easier and there would be less and less to worry about!!

Thank you again... I know i should calm my tizz down xx

HerNameWasLola · 02/06/2009 17:59

Ash try not to worry (ha ha ) I really think the fundal height measurements are quite often a load of cobblers. A friend of mine from another thread has recently been to the fetal medicine centre for a scan because the mw and the doc said she was measuring too big, and the scan showed the baby was bang on. Another friend who was told she was measuring small from 24 weeks had a bouncing baby boy at 39 weeks - we're all different, we all carry differently, and you're right, 2cm is only 2cm. If LO's head has shifted south surely that could account for it? If his head's low in your pelvis they won't be starting the measurement from the right place anyway will they? Look on the bright side, worst case scenario is you get to see your gorgeous boy again at one final scan

Tamlin · 02/06/2009 18:11

Ash, I had a scan with DS at 28 weeks to make sure that he was growing ok as I was measuring small. Everything was fine, of course, and the consultant said that of all the cases she'd seen where the mum was referred for possible retardation of growth, maybe one in five hundred was actually in need of help and the rest were false alarms.

Alana, I didn't feel movement until 22 weeks with DS due to anterior placenta. I've been really pleasantly surprised this time.

Lola, good luck with Tom! Hope he keeps on feeding well.

Tamlin · 02/06/2009 18:15

Also - Scarlotti, really hope you get your letter soon...

Saw my poor overworked midwife on Monday, and requested consultant referral to discuss Fenton's and ways to approach childbirth to avoid further damage, requested physio referral so I can get brace for SPD, and then requested to know where the heck my chickenpox blood test results are. Lost, apparently. She explained that my initial referral letter for the anomaly got lost (as did my booking letter from the GP) and suggested that I keep phoning and phoning Hospital A.

You know, one of the biggest differences between my pregnancy with DS and my pregnancy now is how much more bolshy I am.

rainbowdays · 02/06/2009 18:31

I am now passing clots with the bleeding, so feeling even more doubtful that this one will make it. I am sure of my dates as I was temping and opk-ing so know when I ovulated. I am just hoping that the person scanning me was not good (was a doctor not a sonographer) and that the dating was out slightly. But now with passing clots I am assuming the worst. My other grasping at straws action is that my hpt's are darker not lighter! I know this is no real indicator, but with my previous early miscarriages by the time I started bleeding I was getting faint and negative tests. However I am a week later this time, so I assume it will take a bit longer for the tests to go negative???? Any reassurance gratefully recieved.

Ash - I hope you don't mind me shortening your name though we have only just met!! I just wanted to reassure you that the fundal hieght measures mean very little. I was 4 cm too big with my dd, midwives kept asking if I was sure it was not twins, it turned out that dd just had lots of water with her. Meanwhile with my ds2 was measuring under by 2 or 3 cm at one point, but when he arrived he was 2lbs heavier than my dd but not much water. The fundal measure can't tell what is baby and what is fluid. So I was told you have to be out by 4cm for anyone to really warrent a scan to look for size of baby and amount of waters. So hopefully next time you will have some reassurance.

Tamlin - I totally understand the becoming more bolshy with subsequent pregnancies!!!!

scarlotti · 02/06/2009 18:38

Well I've arrived home and finally my letter is here. Something else to fret about now - I am down as less than 1 in 250 but that's the cut off point that just puts you in the low risk category. I have a page attached with loads of medical info on it that means nothing to me, and then a bit at the bottom which gives a risk of 1 in 7700 at term.

Can anyone shed any light? The 1 in 7700 obviously is great - but then why do they put me at less than 1 in 250? I'm 35 so is it my age that's increasing the risk? In previous pregnancies I've always been way under the risk line.

alana39 · 02/06/2009 20:01

Thanks for reassuring answers .

Ashleigh, I think that 2 cm either side of your number of weeks is normal, I remember reading somewhere that this is the margin of error anyway.

Scarlotti haven't read whole thread for the last couple of weeks but is this the result of a triple test? How pointless is it giving you 2 risks, one which worries you and one which is so low. Can't really offer any useful advice except that you should probably talk to your midwife about it as she should be able to explain why the 2 numbers are there and which one you should really pay attention to.

And I tried your suggestion on the forward roll thing but my big belly protested before any kick (and DS2 saw an immediate opportunity to climb on top of me) so I guess I'll just have to be more patient.

ashleighbeee · 03/06/2009 09:35

Hi Rainbow How are you feeling today? I hope that the next scan brings you some positive answers, I am sending such positive vibes your way, although i didnt pass clots early on, I did have bleeding that seemed so similar to the miscarriage i had experienced. I am keeping everything crossed for you and hope that you'll be staying with us, oh an call me what you like obviously within reason

Thank you to all of you who have reassured me, I feel a bit silly to be honest as 2cm is 2cm! Its not like when the babies get here they're all exactly the same size and he could just be super comfy in there - he's been kicking lots since my appointment, so i know he's okay really...

Scarlotti have you phoned docs/them/midwife to find out what it means.. it all sounds very confusing to me... I dont have a clue what you should go by..

lola I know - us two are the most obsessed with the scans of anyone i know - we're planning to go for a 4d scan (I think) sometime soon - so it would be 2 more scans before he is here..

Tamlin I cannot believe you're recieving this sort of care. Are they KIDDING! Dont they have a filing system!?!? My hospital lost my notes and then 'found' them 2 days later.. nice, I can just picture an over flowing bin where they just toss these things.. what other explanation can there be?

good morning to all xx

rainbowdays · 03/06/2009 09:57

Sorry if TMI - but just updating where I am at today, so far no more clots since yesterday evening, now it is mucousy and red bleeding. Cramps are continuing mildly though, so might be more to come yet. I am not sure I have any chance, but refuse to lose all hope yet.

scarlotti · 03/06/2009 10:11

Morning all

Well I've left a message for the screening co-ordinator to call me back about my results. A friend of mine seems to think that my result is the 1 in 7700 (fab) and that the covering letter just gives you a standard blurb depending on whether you're low risk (less than 1 in 250) or high risk (more than 1 in 250).

If that's the case then I will be suggesting to the woman that she changes the wording of her covering letter How difficult would it be to say you are in the low risk category and see the attached detailed information for your specific risk result.

It amazes me how the medical profession can confuse people with terminology or unclear processes, with no regards to the trauma and worry they can cause to people's lives Tamlin your hosp A is a perfect example.

alana the tummy thing was just an idea, not sure I'd manage to fold in two either as am far too big

ashliegh you're not alone in the worry about any little thing camp - we're all right here with you.

rainbow keeping everything crossed for you and sending sticky vibes.

scarlotti · 03/06/2009 13:07

Well, the lady from the screening place has rung me back and my assumptions were correct.
I am at a 1 in 7700 risk, which is very low and naturally i'm relieved.

The letter is a standard letter and tries to show the cut off point as they can't mail merge in the actual result. She said it was causing confusion and she was thinking of rewording the letter - apparently after my feedback she's going to change it today and also look at the booklet we get given which aids the confusion.

So just the anomoly scan in 2 weeks to worry about now!

ashleighbeee · 03/06/2009 13:22

Ahh Scarlotti thats fabulous news I am so pleased that you've had a positive outcome and well done you for getting the letter changed. All round well done What date is your anomoly scan??

Rainbow how are you getting on? I agree that you should not lose hope yet. What date is your next scan?

xx

scarlotti · 03/06/2009 13:25

ashleigh thanks. I was pleased too that she didn't think me a moaning PITA but was open to the confusion being caused.
Anomoly scan is Friday 19th June. Am feeling ok about it at the moment although I guess nerves will kick in nearer the time. We're going to ask what flavour too so that's keeping me preoccupied.

crunch you need to guess for me if you're always right!!

alana39 · 03/06/2009 13:29

Scarlotti brilliant news. Will be worrying with you until anomaly scan - mine's on the 12th and it's one of those things I'm half looking forward to and half dreading.

ashleighbeee · 03/06/2009 13:39

Twit twoooo!! Ooooo I would try and guess but my powers are just not like Crunch's How exciting! So then we'll be coo'ing over pink frilly bits and bobs or boys blue thingy magigis!!!

alana not long until yours, are you also finding out the "flavour"?

xx

tink08 · 03/06/2009 14:42

Hi ladies , just felt like i needed to winge really i hope you don't mind
I'm still feeling pretty rubbish and tired all the time and i'm 15+1 now . I'm not feeling sick or queesy or anything but everything else about feeling shit in first trimester i've still got
My doc seems to think i have hayfever ? but i dont normally suffer from it , is there such a thing as pregnancy hayfever ? might explain stuffyness and headaches but she says i cant take anything for it anyway
Oh and i got a letter from a doctor i've never heard of to repeat the urine test i gave to my midwife on thursday for re-testing asap ! which is making me think something is wrong [worried icon lol !]
Anyway just feel a bit all over he place and cant bring myself to do anything except winge and read pregnancy mags etc .
i'm off work at mo too coz of spd which is'nt helping but my dd1 is keeping me up and about in fact i've gotta go pick her up from school in a bit .
Anyway sorry for the selfish winge
I'm just trying to catch up and read all your posts x x

ashleighbeee · 03/06/2009 17:17

Arrrh tink sorry to see you're feeling a bit

Well I can see where she's coming from with the hayfever, apparently our senses are hightened.. I've never had eczma before but apparently do now..

As for the urine test, please try not to worry too much, perhaps she lost the last results or something?

I am sending big hugs your way... and I hope that things settle down and you relax into it.. easy for me to say - I havent relaxed at all..

xx

alana39 · 03/06/2009 19:59

Tink that sounds awful, the lining of your nose does swell in pregnancy (same kind of tissue as gums I think) so are probably more irritable. If you have a cold pack it might help with headaches - I have had some weeks where I've been carrying one around with me whenever I'm at home.

Ashleigh I'd quite like to find out if I'm having another boy, or a girl - if only to stop my MIL going on about it - but our hospital doesn't tell you as a matter of policy and I'm not sure if I'm so keen to know that I would blow more money on a private scan. Especially as for some reason I have gone out and spent loads on maternity clothes this weekend, just because I was too hot and needed some linen. And now it's getting cold again.

cornflakegirl · 03/06/2009 23:51

Ash - to answer your question from yesterday about the pregnancy grant, it took them just under a month to process and pay mine - although a week longer for me to get the letter telling me they'd paid it! But much faster than I expected.

rainbowdays · 04/06/2009 08:00

alana - I found it hard not being allowed to know the sex at the hospital I attended with my last pregnancy. But due to my job, I was away from home and because my dh never got to attend any of the scans, I treated us both to a christmas present of a 3d scan. It was wonderful after the horribly brief scan at the hospital. But I had loads of clothes from my previous pregnancies so had no other shopping excuse

Tink - yep, each of my pregnancies my allergic rhinitis (hayfever!) changed, it is not only that the blood flow to the nose has changed but your immune system is suppressed during pregnancy so your body is not as good at reacting to outside allergens. I was told I could take my normal meds as they were topical (nose spray), and it was the only way I survived the stuffy nose times. I can never sleep properly with a stuffy nose. As for the urine test retest, I had this a couple of times, once the result was not recorded!!!! Lost it, another time, my levels were borderline + with sugars, and they just wanted to check it. So probrably nothing to worry about (easier said than done!).

scarlotti - thank you for the sticky vibes. It was good to hear your risk was low afterall.

I am still gripping onto the sliver of hope left, still bleeding, but hoping.

flappybitsoskin · 04/06/2009 10:49

rainbowdays - am hoping for you too

Alas I am bowing out of this. As I mentioned, previous scans had me 'losing' days. I bled on tues and scan today shows no heartbeat.

Hey ho. I really am fine with it all. Tis a bit different for me as I have a balanced chromosome translocation which means I have 50/50 ish chance of having chromosomally abnormal pgs - with deletion on one and duplication of another. Mostly this will result in mc. Vague possibility I could have child with problems - my dd has the 'unbalanced' chromosomes - has a partial trisomy of chromo 14 and small deletion on chromo 5 (cri du chat syndrome) She has so many problems and realistically is not expected to live very long. She's 4.

So without sounding too blaze and callous - all of this current mc isn't really so big a deal for me. I'm grateful that I am not going through cvs and facing agonising choice. In fact, I'm incredibily glad I have no choice. Well xcept for the choice of erpc so that I can spare myself of visceral vileness of another mc. I know it is for the best this way (arrghhh I know this is horrible when people say this about mc but hope you excuse me ladies. Am only speaking for myself of course)

Best of luck to you all x Hang in there. It can and will work out, but may way be a tortuous journey. Look at my shitty odds and scrambled eggs! Yet I've stilll been the other side of this and have a lovely family. That's what I'm focussing on now. The good stuff
