New one! Thought I would make my mark!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
scarlotti · 16/06/2009 11:15

becks I had acupuncture this time around - did it for the horrendous nausea which it sorted out. She also used points to strengthen the pregnancy and keep it all in nice and tight - if that makes sense. I have to say it was brilliant. I do think it helped bean stick better and it certainly helped my mental state in that I felt I was actively doing something to help my chances. I'd had 2 m/c back to back before this pg.

Do you have a good practitioner in mind? If you're in the Brighton area then I can recommend one!

becks130 · 16/06/2009 12:51

Scarlotti are you on the due in Nov thread? I live in Hampton, Middlesex but I have found a good place 10 min away from me. After what you have said I am definitely going to give it a try, I'll you know how I get on.

daisyj · 16/06/2009 13:56

Hi all

It's been sooo long, but just wanted to pop in and say hi - Maya has just dropped off in her rocky chair to the strains of Bebel Gilberto so I thought I would take the opportunity. Can't believe she's 11 weeks now, and I swear that today she is growing before my eyes...

Congratulations to ses, sparky and cece on your little darlings. So happy to see three more safely delivered. Even though I've barely had time even to lurk I've been thinking about everyone here a lot over the past few days. Maya still feels like a miracle every day. It took me a few weeks really to fall in love with her, but now I am utterly besotted.

Did I miss joyful's announcement - she must have had baby by now...?

Hugs to all and sticky beans to the newbies.

xx

daisyj · 16/06/2009 13:58

Oh, and just wanted to second everything that scarlotti says about acupuncture .

becks130 · 16/06/2009 14:00

How early in pregnancy did you guys try accupuncture?

alana39 · 16/06/2009 14:05

Cornflake girl I know it sounds ridiculous, but I wouldn't get another one of either of the 2 normal pushchairs we've wrecked (other one was a twin) - although have a lightweight maclaren buggy it's not suitable from birth. I don't drive so this is the most important bit of kit for me . God knows if I will have time for driving lessons before I'm 50 at this rate.

Scarlotti, I'm feeling a bit miffed that our hospital won't tell you the sex of the baby - another postcode lottery (albeit not a very serious one for a change). DH swears he saw something dangling but not sure how much faith to place in that! Didn't care with my boys, but would like to know if I should hang onto the clothes DS2 is just growing out of or not. Not sure how much longer I can continue cramming stuff in the boxes under beds.

scarlotti · 16/06/2009 14:53

becks yes I'm on the due in Nov thread - glad to hear things are looking up for you again. I had acupuncture from about 6 weeks up until about 14 weeks. I might still go to the drop in sessions monthly from now on. I'm about 19.5 weeks now.

alana it was because of having all ds' clothes rammed into cupboards that swung it for me too I think with the trauma we've had getting to this stage too, it will allow me to bond better. Plus this is my last (no.3) and I haven't found out before so fancied doing it differently!

What are you looking for in a pram? Lie flat from birth? How sturdy? Do you have toddlers to transport too?

cornflakegirl · 16/06/2009 14:58

Yeah, yeah, Alana - we all know you're really a pram hun .

We're a one-car family (whoever is working gets the car), so very reliant on the pushchair too. We have a Graco Mirage - cheap, works from birth, big shopping basket. It did DS - hopefully will do this next one too. Must get round to digging all the baby stuff out the loft sometime soon.

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 16/06/2009 15:21

alana no method, only madness It's clearly hereditary, my dad does it too. It's called "very lucky guessing". So far I have a 100% track record (although I'm not convinced it'll last on here ). Something about you screams "girl" to me!

scarlotti I'm still not sure about your prediction, but actually I think I'm going to change it to a girl too (just for consistency's sake ).

becks good luck with the acupuncture, it's safe at any stage so go for it!

blondie good to see all is well.

cornflake how're you this fine afternoon?

daisy good to see you, glad all is still going so well (I still love that name!)

Still no cat here Baby-gazing has been put on hold and replaced by wandering the streets calling him. I am now the resident mad woman.

cornflakegirl · 16/06/2009 15:41

Crunch - how long has the cat been missing now? Hope he turns up soon.

This afternoon I am mainly annoyed that I can now add heartburn to my list of pregnancy annoyances (having taken solace only two days ago in the fact that at least that was one thing I didn't have to deal with - oh, the irony! ).

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 16/06/2009 15:50

cornflake I sympathise. I never had heartburn with the boys, but this time I had such bad reflux that I slept propped up (if I didn't then I woke up choking, yuck!)

He's been gone since Friday. Hopefully he'll walk back through the door soon as though he'd never been away. Worried though.

scarlotti · 16/06/2009 18:06

cornflake I totally sympathise as I am in the same boat Dd has just popped up to the one stop shop to buy me some strawberry milkshake. I find it flares up more if I'm tired/stressed out rushing about. Given I'll be working up until about 37 weeks I guess it's here for the duration then

crunch I'll be your uncertain one then! I think I'm having a girl but am not sure if that's borne out of any feeling or my wishful leanings
Sorry to hear your cat is still away, hope you find him soon.

daisyj · 16/06/2009 19:54

becks I started acupuncture when ttc after mc. I had had it before for allergies and stress and it always worked for me. The second time around we conceived first month of trying (after waiting three months) and DH and I are not spring chickens at 41 (him) and 36 respectively at time of conception. I really believe in it at all stages for helping bean to stick and helping you stay healthy and sane. Also, I'm small and managed to deliver an 8lb 4oz baby at home with minimal pain relief and only a small cut as she was in a textbook position, which I also attribute to the acupuncture. So in short I reckon the earlier you start the better, but even at 39 weeks I think it would be of use.

Oh, crunch, you lost your cat - I know what that's like - really hope he turns up soon.

ashleighbeee · 17/06/2009 13:49

Good afternoon ladies!

Hope you're all having a lovely day.

Crunch as always, it is lovely to see you hear, although i am very sorry to hear that your cat has gone missing!! I hope you find him soon.

Herb Are you still with us? 28th June is NOT far off now at all!!!!!!!

Scarlotti not long now until your scan - Friday right? Aww i cant wait to hear what flavour you're carrying! I am working until 36 weeks - although my concentration at work at the moment is flagging. What date are you planning to go off? And 100 times over a massive congratulations on taking your pram out of the box, I remeber what a hurdle this was for you even thinking about doing it, in a strange way i am proud of you (is that 100% the wrong thing to say here and very patronising? Please please note that i dont mean it in that way at all, just feel like i have experienced the hurdle with you). You have come a long way xxxx

Cornflake I am also suffering with heartburn... lots of milk and nesquick when that gets boring... blugh. However to be honest, give me heartburn over morning sickness anyday!

Welcome Becks I have no experience of accupuncture, although have heard many good things about it. Good luck with it!

Suze Fab to hear from you and littlesyd how are things there? Are you still entertaining family? When is your DH expected home? I hope not too much longer... I hope we're all in and settled next weekend and then i can concentrate on getting work finished and relaxing in August before this little one makes an appearence. It terrifies me that it is almost July!! Lovely hearing all your news as usual

Oz welcome to the thread, I hope you're with us for a long time.

blondie good to hear from you. Pleased all is well.

alana gooooooood luck on the big pushchair hunt... so much choice!!!

Tamlin How are you getting on?

Lola are you still lurking out there?

As for us, well we're in our single figure weeks now!!!! 9 weeks and 4 days to go until the first due date we've been given! 9 WEEKS AND 4 BLINKIN DAYS!!!! I cant believe i have come so far. I am enjoying pregnancy so much more than i have the whole 30 other weeks that i have been pregnant! I think these last weeks will be my favourite... Although i am impatient so wont be my favourite period of time if i dare go a day over .

Hope all my ladies in knickerchecker land are having smooth days. xx

scarlotti · 17/06/2009 14:51

ashleigh lovely to hear from you Not patronising in the slightest, it's so nice to have somewhere to go where you are in the company of people who understand the significance of our personal hurdles - especially when they seem small things to others.
Great news on your countdown and if I remember rightly, you're about a week away from moving? You must be so excited? And being so pregnant means you'll just have to sit there and order everyone around on moving day - tragic
We've decided to wait until next year now to move and do it all in one. Hopefully the market will hold out and now it means I can relax and have this one in a house that's sorted rather than amongst boxes!
I am either going to to at 36 or 37 weeks, depending on how I feel. I only get paid when I work so trying to hang in for as long as possible.

Heartburn tip - Frijj milkshakes are just thick enough to coat your throat and ease the pain, my dd bought me one yesterday and it was heaven!

Yep, Friday is the day and the excitement of finding out is allaying any worries of problems at the moment

Ciara11 · 17/06/2009 15:17

Hi Everyone
Sorry i havent been on here much, been reading but not having time to reply.

I hope everyone is doing well and to those who have not had sticky beans this time, good luck next time.

I have a query, im now 11+1 and i had a scan at 10 weeks, which showed a baby, arms & legs moving, heartbeat and was the right size.
However im now worrying cause my symptons seem to be getting less, im not as tired, still feeling a bit sick but not as bad, boobs still tender but not as much, is this the right time for the symptons to be easing or does it mean something is wrong, cause i presume things can still go wrong for me.

Sorry to have a me post, im just worrying about anything and everything, as i know we all seem to do on this thread.

Thanks x

cornflakegirl · 17/06/2009 15:18

Ash - I'm going to have to start counting down in weeks - 8 and a half weeks sounds so much shorter than 2 months! Am very jealous of you enjoying being pregnant though - I'm just tired and grumpy. Can I have some of your cheerfulness please - I feel like my usual sunny disposition is permanently AWOL!

Can't believe you two are drinking Frijj and Nesquik - aren't they both horribly sweet and cloying? (Not that sweet is bad - am currently mainlining Nutella...). Rennies seem to be doing the trick at the moment, thankfully.

scarlotti · 17/06/2009 15:25

Ciara What you're experiencing is perfectly normal for the stage you're at - you're one of the lucky ones if the symptoms are easing at 11 weeks as it can take up to 14 weeks and beyond A heartbeat at 10 weeks means your chance of m/c has dropped to about 1.5% and is at the level it will now stay. The 12 week mark is symbolic as it stems from before scans were available (according to the consultant we saw) - at 12 weeks ish the placenta gets a signal from the baby which tells it to carry on grpwing and developing. Many women m/c at 12 weeks as this signal is not recieved, however the baby can have stopped growing weeks before but the body hadn't known.

Enjoy the next phase of relativly no symptoms as you'll soon be joining the rest of us at heartburn hotel

cornflake yes, frijj is very sweet so couldn't drink many, but the thickness worked a treat. I find skimmed milk isn't quite creamy enough to take the acid away.

ashleighbeee · 17/06/2009 15:31

Scarlotti thanks for the tip! Frijj ay, now that you mention it i can imagine how soothing and cooling that must be! I am pleased you took my post the way that it was intended and, I think that instead of telling us the flavour you should post a link to the lovely covers that you'll be buying for the pushchair in your chosen colour!! How exciting, I imagine tonight and tomorrow you'll be getting very very excited!! I am pleased you're holding off on all of your moves, just the one does seem to make more sense! Yeps just over a week, I am trying not to think about it too much, mortgage provider is yet to confirm 100% that they will TT the money that day so knowing our bad luck so far... ahhh dont want to jinx it!!

Ciara To be honest with you 100% i cant remember when exactly my symptoms disappeared, I didnt have tender boobs from about 8 weeks so thought i was doomed... I also remember my MS easing around 10 weeks. I dont know about you but i wish they would just say in text book black and white 'you wake up on first morning of week 12 and the symptoms have disappeared'. I am thinking of you at this awkward stage - but my main thoughts are that, having seen your little one at 10 weeks, you're a okay. Have you had your 12 week scan date through or was the 10 week one in replacement of that?

Cornflake I dont know why i do the week countdown... I think because I have done everything in weeks so far, when people ask how many months i am i have to think about it for a while, always chuck X weeks at them.. and 8 1/2 weeks is NO time!! We'll be saying 2 1/2 weeks soon I am sure of it!

I dont know what is making my mood cheerful, I imagine its the thought of getting into the new house and sorting it all out, very very excited at the prospect of getting our little nursery sorted out for the little baby that will be with us so so soon. (can you feel my optimism??)

I might send DP to the shop on his way home for a lovely Frijj drink... are we talking any flavour in particular Scarlotti xx

cornflakegirl · 17/06/2009 15:37

Ciara - sorry, I missed your post. Hope Scarlotti's post has put your mind at rest a bit. (Although the symbolism of the end of the first trimester was still a big point for me - silly, but that was how I felt.)

Arf at heartburn hotel!

Ciara11 · 17/06/2009 15:44

Thank you everyone, it has set my mind at rest a little bit, but i think like everyone i will be worrying until i get past that 12 week stage.

Asleighbee i have got my next scan date through, its actually at 13 weeks at the end of june, so im now looking towards that one and "fingers crossed" everything is ok and i can start looking forward.

Although we all know we will continue worrying, dont we

I must admit, you lot talking about Frijj is really making me fancy one now and thats without any heartburn

((((Good luck and hugs to all))))

scarlotti · 17/06/2009 15:56

cornflake 12 weeks and the scan was still a HUGE point for me despite the consultant's reassuring words. I hadn't realised just how emotionally detached I'd become as a defence mechanism until after the scan. I don't think it's silly at all - if it was, how daft is being scared to take a pram out of a box in case of bad omens...
I think we all have our hurdles at various points, each as important as any other.

ash I had strawberry last night chocolate one is too sickly imo but it's a taste thing! Like the idea of posting the covers.

I have also bought a babynest on eBay as they look wonderful and seem to keep their resell value really well. Got it for half new price, and will then sell on. Lady is back next week so collecting then - more excitement!
Knowing me, the little blighter won't settle in it though

Don't know about you ladies, but am feeling very proud of us all today and how far we've come. Sending you all lots of un-mumsnetty love and hugs

alana39 · 17/06/2009 20:53

Silly question Scarlotti but what is a baby nest?

Glad to hear you're still here, Ciara, sounds like you are just getting past the really nasty bit and will start to bloom

I must be wierd because I'd rather have swig from my bottle of Gaviscon (yum) than a milk shake. Mind you, I tried eating the last of the easter eggs and still don't like chocolate so something is clearly wrong with my tastebuds.

Cornflake you are the second person in one day to mention that Graco pushchair, will have a look, thanks.

Crunch a few people think I'm having a girl, although my sons are concerned about the introduction of pink stuff / Hannah Montana into the house. I have tried to point out what living with Ben10 obsessives is like for me, but they just turn themselves into Stinkfly or something and carry on.

sydneysuze · 17/06/2009 22:47

Evening All!
Wow, lots been going on ? have been too knackered in the evenings and too busy with pesky work getting in the way during the days to post. Think the tiredness must be to do with me being (gulp) 27 weeks now ? does that make me 3rd trimester????? and .

Alana I?m doubly with you tonight ? can?t stand the thought of milkshakes and take gaviscon if I get really bad heartburn, and also haven?t the foggiest what a ?baby nest? might be. Something left by the stork perhaps?

Ozbride ach, don?t you worry I?m always happy when anyone loves Australia! And Byron is just about my favourite town in New South Wales so good choice there! You should check out the yoga dvd ?Yoga for Me and My Baby? as it?s filmed on the beach there. I am half Aussie but was born in London and have dual nationality, and have not lived in Sydney since about 2001. Miss it but also love living in the UK. I took the baby aspirin from about when I got my BFP to just after 12 weeks, midwife thought it was good idea but consultant said no need / no harm so my choice.

Crunch any news on your cat ? I really hope so. They do get stuck places sometimes on their wanderings. Fingers crossed you?ve been reunited already.

Becks welcome and sticky vibes for you

Blondieminx [phew emoticon] am very glad all is well with you. I do fret when anyone goes AWOL. Lord knows you?d think I was occupied enough with random ?has the baby stopped moving / what if I lose her now / should I have eaten that?? etc etc going on in my brain. Sigh. Hope EPU was ok.

Scarlotti can you send me some of your nesting urges please??? I have about a million jobs around the house to do at the mo but really can?t muster the energy. And I know I?m about to get more inflexible so should start organising at least the low down things now! Just seem to be unavoidably drawn to the fridge and then the sofa ....

Daisy lovely to see you dropping in and to hear news of Maya Was really interested to hear you thought acupuncture helped with her position and your labour.

Ashleigh fingers crossed for your move into your lovely new (MIL-free ) home! We should give you a virtual house-warming. And congrats on being into the 10 (12?) week countdown !

Ciara I agree with Scarlotti that you are most likely moving into the less turbulent waters of the 2nd trimester and that?s why your symptoms are subsiding ? try to relax if poss and enjoy the extra energy. Also agree with Cornflake that the symbolism of getting through the 12 week hurdle is huge and that alone is probably adding to your anxiety. Let us know how the 13 week scan goes.

As for me ? still home alone, still having dark thoughts about the fact that some BBC wildlife cameramen work on blinkin? ?Springwatch? or similar close to home , so how come my DH ends up in Greenland for a hundred years chasing Narwhal? On the plus side the very lovely manager of the place we are going to in Cornwall has taken pity on me and has let me postpone the trip to the first weekend in July, yay! . So pleased I can?t tell you, especially as the whole thing was a prize I won from the back of a cereal packet !
Apart from that I woke up at 5 am and leapt about 3 metres across the room propelled by the worst cramp in my left calf!!! It was excruciating and I was howling so much I set the dog off . Anyone else get this? Should I be doing anything different??

becks130 · 18/06/2009 08:46

Morning all,

Thank you for all the lovely welcome messages, I hope everyone is ok this morning.

Scarlotti It is really nice to see a familiar name, I am Soooo happy for you and glad everything is going well x

I am feeling a more positive now, I have my dating scan date booked for next Friday which is good as I have no idea how far along I am!!

I told my mum the other day as I needed someone (apart from DH) to know just in case, I have never seen such a shocked expression BUT VERY happy, I only MMC 8 weeks ago so nobody inc me was expecting it to happen so soon. As my mum pointed out to me last time I was sick from the beginning, I had VERY bad flu and had to take antibiotics at the very start and I always had a gut feeling something was wrong. This time round I am feeling better in myself and a lot more positive

I hope everyone has a lovely day in the beautiful sunshine.
