i thought i was 6 weeks, scan said only 4-5 weeks, no embryo yet!????

hi, after 2 mcs, i went for an early scan...just to summarise my life, had a mc in 2007 and another one last december (went at7 weeks and was only 5, 2 weeks later was only 6..., not hb). after that,had period on the 27/01, then 28/02 then had cyst removed in march (was discovered in january , then period first april...positive pregnancy test since 30th april...this am was tols that there was a yollk sac and gestational sac but no embryo yet and measures 4-5 weeks...is it normal??? please advise, i am soo low right now, have gone through a lot!

I had a scan on Tuesday at 6+2 and saw the heartbeat, the embryo and a clear yolk sac. What did the sonographer actually say? Did they say there was any reason to be concerned?

he said that my periods could be messed up with op...but sizes correspond to 4-5 weeks..although no embryo...i amso sad...that would be my 3rd mc

Don't despair too soon - did they tell you to come back to be re-scanned?

Do you know when you ovulated? Could you possibly have ovulated quite late so that when you did your pregnancy test on 30 April, you might only have been have been 8 or 9 days past ovulation? It is unusual but possible to get a positive as early as that, especially if you used a v sensitive test. Really hope this works out fr you. When's your next scan?

Can they even see an embryo at 4 weeks? Both my early scans were at 7 weeks and even then, reports talk about a pulsating cluster of cells. Even that beat wouldn't be there at 4 weeks.

i don't know when i ovulated, all i know is that i had intercourse on 16/04 and 22/04(sorry for detail). however, on the 18th, i felt a very strong stomach pain which i believe was the implantation(i had that for dd, 3). i can't be 4-5 weeks!

If your stomach pain was a random thing and not implantation/ovulation pains then you COULD be 4-5 weeks. Sperm can live up to 5 days so your intercourse on 16/04 could have resulted in conception if you ovulated a few days later. Sorry am speculating wildly and don't want to give you false hope but it is possible you are 4-5 weeks.

I was scanned at 6 wks and there was no heartbeat, but it was there a week later.

Ds is now 17.

dont despair i had same with my dd2 and had a 2 week wait to see if she was a embryo....
i then went back and she was there heart beating and large for what the dates would be if i had them wrong etc soooo stay calm

I had a simular post to yours a few weeks ago. Had a scan there was a gestatinal sac but nothing else, this was on a Friday. They said I was 4-5 weeks. Went back the following Thursday and there was an embryo with heatbeat and they said I was then 7 weeks. So try not to worry to much

that is very reassuring...however when i did a pregnancy test last friday, it had told me i was conceived more than 3 weeks ago....i don't know what to think...also, i am on progesterone and aspirin fyi...

talked to my mc specialist this pm, he was very shocked when i told him there was nothing then he still tried to convince me it was possible....but it looks too much like last time's scenario.....

Sorry to read this lalatv - I had a mmc last year and know the worry your going through - I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that that you ovulated late.

i don't know if it can help but tested with ovulation stick on 16/17/18 and no positive line appeared so thought i would not get pregnant as probably passed ovulation time but still did...don't know if ovulated any earlier...

I don't know if this helps but I had a scan at 5wks and very little could be seen other than a possible sac but was told that could be a "ghost sac". At 6 weeks there was a sac and yolk but couldn't see anything else. At 7.4wks there was an embryo and heartbeat. Now 12 wks.

I had a scan at 6 weeks (according to my dates). They found a sac but no heart beat and 'dated' me at 4-5 weeks. I went back nearly 2 weeks later and there was a heartbeat. That scan dated me the same as I had originally worked out!! I am now 37+4 weeks. I also had used ovulation predictor tests and appeared not have ovulated when I thought I would. I must have ovulated late.

ouah, that is encouraging! thanks for all your reassuring comments...i have more hope today...went to the pharmacy and bought myself this pregnancy book that explains pregnancy from conception, hormones,....well i learnt something after 30 years....tha a woman ovulates roughly 14 days prior to periods...as i have a 33 days cycle, i probably ovulated on the 20th of april and i either conceived then (due to intercourse on the 16th) or on the 22 as egg should still be viable...well, that is my theory...which means that i am not very far in the pregnancy. what do your girls think of my theory???

I think it sounds good - although the usual number of days between ovulation and period can vary quite a lot between different woman - 14 is just an average. If you are interested in reading more, there is a brilliant book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility (Toni Weschler) which I read while trying v hard to conceive. I def think you need another scan in a couple of weeks though - have they scheduled one yet?

thanks all for all your supportive messages...i really hope my theory is right...i still feel pregnant so fingers crossed..it is just not easy when yoou have gone through simalar scenario twice in a year and a half....by the how do you know how long an egg can survive once ovlation happened? i have mixed information, 12h-24h or up to two days?

I am in similar position, was convinced from my dates that i was 8+2 but when had scan due to very light staining, nurse said baby measuring 6+2 and no heartbeat. she prepared me for the worse but after talking to people on this website, they are saying not to give up hope and that it could be late ovulation combined with slightly inaccurate scan.

By her dates that would bring me to 15th april tho and i had positive test on 20th april. Does anyone know is this possible due to late ovulation or am i grasping at straws?
