hyperemesis and general unwellness...what can I do?

I am sick of feeling unwell. I feel really really unwell.

I have been signed off for 3 weeks with hyperemesis, this being my 3rd week, due back to work next week.

The sickness is improving somewhat at 13 weeks (today) This time 2 weeks ago, nothing was staying down. Now I keep down more than I sick up, but I am also eating less. I am fine for fluids now, much better than last week.

But overall, I do not feel better, I feel groggy most of the time, I sleep a lot, does not make a difference. I have an almost constant headache, most food makes me feel sick/be sick, bowels feel like I am going to have a tummy bug although I do not have a tummy bug. I am moody, grumpy, snappy, feel hot although no temperature. I do not feel pregnant, I feel unwell.

I have had 2 sessions of acupuncture but what with DH being out of work, can't really afford any more right now (£35 a session). I have acupuncture bands, am trying to eat as healthily as I can, but not eating very much.

I am quite sick of it right now, I want to feel just abit more human.

Any tips please?

Sympathy to Kathy, sounds like a proper rough patch . DD has been alternately lovely and difficult. She knows I feel ill because I have a baby in my tummy and does her best to make allowances, but at not quite 5 she's too little to expect perfect behaviour from all the time.

Audrey I'll be really interested to hear how the acupuncture goes, do let us know.

I almost hate to say it but I've been a bit better recently, I have more energy and I haven't been sick nearly as much. Still taking the stemetil, I'm too nervous of a bad reaction if I cut it down or stop taking it completely. I'll give it a couple more weeks I think and then perhaps try cutting it down a bit.

there's a great pregnancy and birth website, www.easybirthdownloads.com, which has positive visualisations to reduce Morning Sickness. Good value and very relaxing. You could also try hypnotherapy - Kristin Hayward in London specialises in pregnancy. Good luck, eat baby size portions, little but more often can work well.

audreyraines · 12/06/2009 07:05

thanks kiki, i think eating smal and often works quite well for morning sickness, but generally not so much for full blown hyperemesis where you can't keep anything down.

got my acupuncture today, so looking foroward to lying down for 45 mins!

TigerFeet · 12/06/2009 19:31

How did the acupuncture go Audrey?

audreyraines · 12/06/2009 19:43

hi tiger, i'm not actually sure. i felt deathly tired during the treatment and then on the way home was desperate for the toilet so stopped in one of those public pay 20p self cleaning toilets and a mum had just walked out from changing a really pooey episode, and the toilet smelled bad, and straight away i vomited up my pain au raisin and vomited all the way home.

after that i felt really good for a while, had an excellent nap while ds did, but then back to being fatigued again this afternoon/night. i'll see how weekend goes, but maybe this is just this pregnancy and maybe there's not much to be done about it ...

Kathyis6incheshigh · 13/06/2009 11:24

Oh poor you Audrey. I thought those self-cleaning toilets were meant to be all clean and sparkling for each user - humph!

Having said that, your post is making me quite fancy a pain au raisin

Hope you're feeling better today.

audreyraines · 13/06/2009 15:24

yeah, it sounds very fancy to vomit up a pain au raisin doesn't it!
ds woke up 3 times last night, so justified in feeling tired today - don't know what on earth he was up to, that is quite unusual.
weather beautiful though and i just got my legs waxed

audreyraines · 18/06/2009 11:56

how are we all going girls? hope there is some relief in sight for some of you. xx

YanknCock · 18/06/2009 15:12

Was wondering about all of you too!

I'm 30 weeks now, and only being sick 1-2 times a week. Most recently in the bushes outside my NCT class.

audreyraines · 18/06/2009 17:39

that's good yank, i count 1-2 times a week as success (anything that's not everyday actually).
i'm 28 weeks now and back to vomiting every day, particularly when changing ds' nappies, or just generally when i feel like it walking down the street
i just don't care anymore. 12 weeks to go. 12 weeks to go.
the midwife suggested today i eat red meat and dried fruit for my fatigue. RIGHT. it's up there with eating ginger and nibbling crackers.

AAARGH! I lost this thread and sort of felt like I should not approach as I was doing so well!

But, since friday it has returned, despite medication not all day every day, but for the morning, as soon as I wake, until lunch time, not even water is staying down . I feel much stronger to deal with it at the moment, physically, as in I am not completely wiped after lunch. Although I could do with a nap it not putting straight into bed, although it did on saturday.

Baby has suddenly started really really moving, like proper somersaults, over and over and over. I am wondering if this is linked somehow? Although the sickness does not coincide with the movements. I was thinking maybe there has been a hormone surge coinciding with the new movements and this has set it off again? I am hoping it passes but I have gone off food again and have the horrid 'i am going to be sick imminently' taste in my mouth constantly at the moment.

audreyraines · 08/07/2009 13:19

hi pavlov, poor you. i know what it's like to have the returning sickness. mine comes and goes as it likes and seems not to bare much relationship to anything. i did have a few intense weeks of vomiting again around 28 weeks, but has passed (sort of) now. hope you are doing okay and eating a little something now and again.
