hyperemesis and general unwellness...what can I do?

pavlovthepregnantcat · 13/05/2009 15:09

I am sick of feeling unwell. I feel really really unwell.

I have been signed off for 3 weeks with hyperemesis, this being my 3rd week, due back to work next week.

The sickness is improving somewhat at 13 weeks (today) This time 2 weeks ago, nothing was staying down. Now I keep down more than I sick up, but I am also eating less. I am fine for fluids now, much better than last week.

But overall, I do not feel better, I feel groggy most of the time, I sleep a lot, does not make a difference. I have an almost constant headache, most food makes me feel sick/be sick, bowels feel like I am going to have a tummy bug although I do not have a tummy bug. I am moody, grumpy, snappy, feel hot although no temperature. I do not feel pregnant, I feel unwell.

I have had 2 sessions of acupuncture but what with DH being out of work, can't really afford any more right now (£35 a session). I have acupuncture bands, am trying to eat as healthily as I can, but not eating very much.

I am quite sick of it right now, I want to feel just abit more human.

Any tips please?

errr, pavlov, poor you. although we do bring it on ourselves don't we!! a big lie down for you miss and a slice of toast.

audreyraines · 03/06/2009 06:53

hilarious - ds woke up at 6.20am, and i told him it's too early and he could read a book for 15 mins and then i'd come and get him. i came down to have breakfast, because i'm always so starving and function so much better once i've had something. i just went back to tell get him up and he's snoring! bless. how brilliant, i almost don't know what to do with myself.
i think i might have had a cold for a few days because i'm suddenly feeling a whole lot better after sunday/monday write off. here's hoping for a week or two of 'blooming' before i hit the dreaded 3rd trimester. i did wake up with a leg cramp this morning though - oh the joy!

TigerFeet · 03/06/2009 20:30

Oh god the 3rd trimester... I think I'm about a week or so behind you Audrey and I'm dreading it. So much for the gap between the sickness and the backache

I have rediscoverd Batchelors Pasta 'n' Sauce, I haven't eaten rubbish like that since I was a student. The cheese and broccoli version seems to agree with me particularly well. I used to cook pretty much everything from scratch, now I eat from jars and packets. I just can't face cooking.

pavlovthecat · 03/06/2009 20:36

Isn't funny that we feel so shit we don't even know if we have a cold, as feeling crap is so normal for us!

Great that your LO went back to sleep, marvellous, meant you could have some time mn'ing to yourself!

pavlovthecat · 03/06/2009 20:40

Tiger - I rediscovered cuppa soup for that same reason! It was quick to prepare and seemed to stay down.

I had to actually do work today, proper work, someone was off sick so I had to pick up all their stuff, including running a 2.5 hour group. I whizzed through it in 1.45hours! But I managed ok, although I slept for 1.5 hours when I got home!

I have also discovered something else which agrees with me. Summer Berries Frecasto at Costa. I usually go for coffee with a work colleague and drink latte, can't face it, so i tried this, lovely and refreshing. Lots of sweet drinks leave a sticky taste in my mouth but this was just a little tart, was nice!

TigerFeet · 03/06/2009 20:44

mmmm, cuppa soup...

But really, I mean, cheese and broccoli??

pavlovthecat · 03/06/2009 20:46

god NO! only the tomato one with the croutons in.

TigerFeet · 03/06/2009 20:51

Summer Berries Frescato sounds much more refined doesn't it?

pavlovthecat · 03/06/2009 20:55

Do you know...i looked, and looked, and looked at the word frescato, as I had spelt it. I knew it was wrong, I read it back, over and over, but could not spot the typo . I was saying frescato, and reading frescato but had written something completely different.

My head is a mess these days .

But, yes much more cultured to say 'oh i had a toasted panini and a summer fruits frescato' than 'oh yes I had a tomato cuppa soup and a couple of slices of hovis'

TigerFeet · 03/06/2009 20:58

lol, my head is a wreck, I can't remember anything unless it's written in big black letters and stapled to my forehead. Don't fret, I hadn't noticed anything wrong with your spelling

Kathyis6incheshigh · 03/06/2009 21:00

Oh yes, cheese and broccoli pasta and sauce, yum.
I used to be really down on packet food too but that really hit the spot.

TigerFeet · 03/06/2009 21:07

I bet it has (whispers) additives in it

Kathyis6incheshigh · 03/06/2009 21:10

They must be the sort of additives that are good for the baby though mustn't they? Because you always get some smartarse saying that sickness is your body's way of making you avoid toxins during pregnancy.

TigerFeet · 03/06/2009 21:17

lolol

that's right, fruit and veg is loaded with toxins whereas a MaccyD's is fiiiiiiiiiiiiine

pavlovthecat · 03/06/2009 21:21

Kathy - we should definitely tell ourselves that. Additives that the baby needs. Its good .

pavlovthecat · 03/06/2009 21:22

here is an example of my pregnancy brain not registering what is going on in the world. I am concerned that I might forget something like this every day

Kathyis6incheshigh · 03/06/2009 21:29

Oh ROFL Pavlov! You won't forget that one again, I'm sure.

pavlovthecat · 03/06/2009 21:31

well Kathy - I am not sure, you see, I walked in to the front room, chuckled with DH about it, then walked back to the front room, still naked! Admittedly I was putting pants on, but I was still there after noticing! I cannot be sure that first thing, I will not get up and wonder around without a stitch on. Its habit .

Might have to invest in a nightie

TigerFeet · 03/06/2009 21:33

Yes, a nightie, a lovely flanellette one that buttons all the way up from your toes to your chin

pavlovthecat · 03/06/2009 21:41

Oh niiiiiice! Or maybe a victorian one, with frills at the top and the cuffs?

I will suffocate before I get up. And if I put it on after I get up, I will need to allow a good 30 mins and DHs help to get it on .

audreyraines · 04/06/2009 12:09

hey don't knock the hovis, i've kept that company afloat over the past 6 months. my solution to not being able to cook for ages was to eat all my meals on toast.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 08/06/2009 13:45

aargh, having such a bad day today.
sickness is pretty much back after work gave me a rather challenging deadline (thread about it in the employment section) and so I've had to go all out instead of taking it easy like I should be.
DH is in London today and I was supposed to be driving dcs to nursery but have been throwing up far too much to drive so am stuck with them.
Going to doctor at 4, have to drive then (though it's only 5 mins - nursery is half an hour).
Am being complete cow to dcs and totally neglecting them. I just refused to change dd's pants for her after she had an accident (she's capable of doing it herself easily enough) becuase I couldn't stand the smell. They've eaten nothing but biscuits since breakfast. DS is wearing only a nappy because he took his clothes off and I couldn't be bothered to put them on again. I keep screaming at them whenever they try to sit on my lap because I can't cope with the weight and wriggling on my tummy.

audreyraines · 10/06/2009 15:44

poor you kathy, how is it going now? the vomiting always comes when i do too much/get too tired etc.
i decided to go for some acupuncture on friday to see if it can help this whole fatigue thing that i've got going on. i'm down to throwing up only about twice a week though, which at least is something.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 10/06/2009 18:07

Thanks Audrey.
Well they were good as gold at the doctor's, then dh came home earlier than planned, bless him, and put them both to bed for me.
Tuesday was better but I'm still waking up in the night to be sick and was sick on the bus this morning! I've had a lot of stress
Aren't children forgiving? I was so horrible to them on Monday. I spent a lot of time crying, but they were lovely and dd tried to lend me her favourite presents from her birthday at the weekend to make me feel better .
I've had a very reassuring meeting at work which means I can take sick leave if I need to without worrying about the deadline.

So glad you're down to twice a week. Hopefully soon that'll turn into never.

audreyraines · 10/06/2009 21:46

i'm always amazed at how children behave when you really need them to. when i'm sick ds just becomes this beautifully caring boy content to read books all day with me. ah bless.
